The FAA Just Closed Low-Flying Airspace Over Ferguson
The Ferguson "revolution" may be televised courtesy of straight to YouTube cell phone clips, but any chopper-based TV crews will have to find a different vantage point, as will any and all low flying aircraft (with the exception of US government drones of course), because moments ago, the FAA announced that starting 1315 UTC through 2000 UTC on August 12, "No pilots may operate an aircraft in the areas covered by this NOTAM (except as described). ONLY RELIEF AIRCRAFT OPERATIONS UNDER DIRECTION OF ST." The Reason? "TO PROVIDE A SAFE ENVIRONMENT FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT ACTIVITIES." Because TV crews recording every incident put "law enforcement" in jeopardy?

To summarize, in addition to the heavily militarized police presence, and the barring of journalists and protestors, the government just prohibited news helicopters. Which, of course, is simply government code that tonight Ferguson may get "turbulent."

My solution for looters is heavily armed property owners actually using 2nd Amdt Rights.
Guard your store, with somebody assisting if need be, a pile of 15-20 dead looters in the front window/door would deter the rest. If LEOs try to stop you from defending your property, add them to the pile as well. FFS, it's that simple.

The Temporary Flight Restriction covers half of Lambert International Airport and the landing ends of runways 30L and 30R. This is basically so the cops can fly over the area without worrying about airliners or other aircraft for that matter. They were still landing on 30L and 30R last I was listening to LiveATC. I'm guessing that once it starts getting closer to evening or if something starts going down, the airlines will start using rnway 29. I was flying locally on the Illinois side or the river this morning and heard the TFR get issued.

The cops don't need these restrictions to hover helicopters, which they do on every other day. They just want things to themselves. A TFR now is just priming the pump for more of the same, or worse, later.
No they don't, but on typical non riot days, the cops coordination with St. Louis ATC is pretty simple. They don't need airliners and police helicopters dodging each other during riots. As for the media helicopters, none have been covering any of the hostilities at night. The media helicpters aren't well equipped for night time news casts. Secondly, the size of the TFR isn't big enough to be a problem for the zoom lenses on the media's helicopters in the first place.
No, it's so the surface people don't mistake the news helicopters for drones.

My experience was vastly different.

If the lights go out, each LEO will have to decide who's side he'll be on individually, and then make it publicly known.
