Ferguson As America: "There Is A Brewing Problem... And It's Extremely Dangerous"

Riots are have erupted with hundreds of protesters gathering at a suburban St. Louis police station on Monday demanding murder charges against an officer who shot to death an unarmed black teenager over the weekend. Looting just went nuts like the ’60s. While this is being painted as a race issue, there is yet another issue that is not being addressed – that is the militarization of the civil police forces around the country.
Ever since 911, there has been a trend moving toward much harsher local police. Here is a photo of how the Boston Police have militarized to the point it looks like war against the people. Even small towns are geared up for war.
The small town of Medford, Oregon with a population of 76,462 has spent millions of dollars to militarize their police. They have their own Swat Teams, yet no incident in history of some major shooting of such a nature to warrant a Swat Team. The entire reason where there was the Second Amendment was to eliminate this very threat of standing armies. We are seeing the abuse of force at every level. Medford Police bought a new vehicle that some say could survive a so-called the apocalypse. They used their Swat Team to go after a mere carjacker.
Medford, New Jersey with a population of just 23,033 also has a Swat Team. They rushed in and held two white kids on the ground at gun-point for shooting potatoes into a lake setting hair spray as the propellant.
The whole thing about standing armies has been their historical use out of boredom. It is a shame to pay for something and then not use it. Police use to be friendly as shown in Normal Rockwell’s classic painting. Sure there are a few good souls still left. But the attitudes have shifted to being just mean and nasty as they look at the civilian population as evil.
This is a problem that is brewing and is extremely dangerous to say the least. Examples of police abuse are all over the internet. There has been a loss of respect for the people and there seems to be no way to reverse this process.
They sprayed protesters in the eyes during Occupy Wall Street movements everywhere. The conduct has been outrageous. This killing of this black teen is not simply racism. The problems are much deeper. Claiming this is just racism deflects the entire issue and makes it simply black-v-white. This is something far more serious for it is impacting our entire society.
The protests over land was yet another example. The police showed up with weapons and told the people they would shoot to kill. The police are being transformed from protecting the public into protecting government from the public. Most do not even see what transformation they have gone through.

Even though the economy has somewhat stabilized (at least for the moment), levels of anger and frustration have continued to grow in this country. We have been taught to hate one another and to blame one another for our problems, and so now the U.S. is more divided than at any other point in recent memory. We live at a time when things are so tense that even a small spark can light an absolutely huge fire. America has become a tinderbox. Next time it might not be a racially-charged shooting. Next time it might be an Ebola outbreak that sparks looting and panic. Or it might be some sort of financial collapse. We just don't know.
But what we do know is that there are lots and lots of people that are willing to riot and loot and commit unspeakable crimes given the right circumstances.
Decades of social decay have gotten us to the point where the thin veneer of civilization that we all take for granted every single day is wearing dangerously thin.
The truth is that it is not going to take much to push this nation over the edge.
If this kind of rioting can take place in a community with just over 20,000 people, what would a full-blown riot look like in a city with millions of people?
That is a very sobering thing to think about.
Once upon a time in America, you could leave your doors unlocked at night and you could let your kids play in the streets without ever having to worry.
But now we are a sick, decaying nation that has millions of people ready to riot and loot at the drop of a hat.
Is there any hope for us?

As someone who was born and has lived in southern Oregon for quite some time, this really hit home to me. Medford has its share of problems with drugs, other crime and the occasional illegal here and there but it's not even close to being a war zone like St. Louis or Chicago. There is ZERO fucking reason to militarize the police in a place like Medford other than to fatten up the police budgets.
Look on the bright side. When TSHTF and zombies start arriving in your little town, you'll have something to fight back with beyond mere hunting rifles.

It is alleged that the deceased assaulted the cop and attempted to grab his gun. However, it appears that the suspect was shot multiple times outside of the vehicle and he was unarmed and leaving -- that is, after the confrontation in the vehicle.
Can you shoot someone who's fleeing? Maybe yes, maybe no -- that's very circumstantial, but the general rule is "No" unless you have reason to believe the person targeted is armed and imminently dangerous to others.

Shooting unarmed people that are not actively attacking you tends to be a pretty good way to rile up the population. After all the ordinary citizen who does that sort of thing is usually staring down a Murder or Manslaugher charge, but when the cops do it the worst thing that usually happens is that they get paid leave off for a while.
At the core what cops nationally, not just in a racially-divided area near St. Louis, ought to be asking themselves is this: When you claim special privileges for yourself nobody else has, when you actively campaign for people to be helpless against armed felony violence except to call you when it happens and then when you shoot someone that is unarmed, becoming the aggressor after promising to be the defender and promoting yourself as one, can you realistically expect anything different than what you got in this instance?
More to the point if this doesn't point out the stupidity of "up-arming and armoring" the cops into paramilitary forces what do you need to see in order for that to become apparent - an entire city sacked simply due to grossly superior numbers of*****ed-off citizens?
There is exactly one way for law enforcement to be effective: The cops must have the trust and engagement of the population at large. There is no other option. There wasn't 50 years ago, there wasn't 20 years ago and there isn't now. Technology and lots of guns (including really big ones) don't change a damn thing; there aren't enough cops, and never can be, for it to matter if the people refuse to cooperate or worse actively act against the police, even if they're only armed with (comparatively) sticks and bottles.

You can't just walk or run away after you commit a felony assault on a police officer. It is perfectly legal for them to shoot you under that circumstance to prevent escape from a lawful arrest.

No, cops are trained to handle their emotions in situations like this, or at least they use to. It was part of being a cop and was practiced and taught by the older veterans. There is a book on this subject (I forget the title and author). The author, sadly, lost his son to a police shooting. He was a concealed permit holder in a grocery store when a clerk noticed he was carrying and called police. The officer that responded was described as sweating and nervous. The officer missed the victim as he walked by and he flipped out ran after the guy, who happened to be talking on a cell phone, confronted him and when he spun around the officer began firing. Other officers responding actually shot the victim after he was already down on the floor bleeding out.
The author theorized that this is a systemic problem with multiple factors including video games and training (instinctive firing). Cops want to go home at night. Absolutely understandable but if this attitude turns to a ham fisted "if it's him or me, it's going to be him" it could lead to over zealous actions. Also, it takes a bit of ego to be a cop. But to much ego and not enough control over your emotions could lead to a situation where you respond with force out of emotion. These are skills that where ounce learned and taught by veterans as well because it goes against human nature.
I don't know what the answer is but I treat leo's like a hand grenade that could go off at any minute. Don't piss them off even if they're assholes.

Which brings us to Michael Brown's hometown of Ferguson, a once lily-white suburb of St. Louis.
Out of population of 21,000 (roughly), the city is 28 percent white and 67 percent black.
Back in 2000, the city was 44 percent white and 52.7 percent black (out of roughly 22,000).

life is like in this city where the civilization whites created is

RACIAL PROFILING: Some
Ferguson protesters say members of the city’s predominantly white
police force disproportionately target black motorists during traffic
stops. A 2013 report by the Missouri attorney general’s office found
that Ferguson police stopped and arrested black drivers nearly twice as
frequently as white motorists but were also less likely to find
contraband among the black drivers.
The result of all that is a weak real estate market, even in many middle-class neighborhoods in untroubled school districts.
According to the assessor,
the median value of residential property in the county dropped 7
percent in the two years ending January of this year. But the losses
were highest in the north.
Six of the county’s seven
school districts with more-than-average value declines were north of
Page Avenue. Losses topped double digits in districts bordering the city
of St. Louis — 12 percent in Jennings, 15.4 percent in Normandy, and
23.9 percent in Riverview Gardens. Losses were 13.4 percent in Ritenour,
9.2 percent in Ferguson-Florissant, 9 percent in Hazelwood and 6.2
percent in Pattonville.
St. Louis County saw a 21 percent increase in black population during the last decade, census figures show, while the white population dropped 10 percent.Much
of that demographic shift was reflected in North County. Ferguson, for
example, went from 52 percent black in 2000 to 67 percent in 2010.
