Ferguson As America: "There Is A Brewing Problem... And It's Extremely Dangerous"

Riots are have erupted with hundreds of protesters gathering at a suburban St. Louis police station on Monday demanding murder charges against an officer who shot to death an unarmed black teenager over the weekend. Looting just went nuts like the ’60s. While this is being painted as a race issue, there is yet another issue that is not being addressed – that is the militarization of the civil police forces around the country.
Ever since 911, there has been a trend moving toward much harsher local police. Here is a photo of how the Boston Police have militarized to the point it looks like war against the people. Even small towns are geared up for war.
The small town of Medford, Oregon with a population of 76,462 has spent millions of dollars to militarize their police. They have their own Swat Teams, yet no incident in history of some major shooting of such a nature to warrant a Swat Team. The entire reason where there was the Second Amendment was to eliminate this very threat of standing armies. We are seeing the abuse of force at every level. Medford Police bought a new vehicle that some say could survive a so-called the apocalypse. They used their Swat Team to go after a mere carjacker.
Medford, New Jersey with a population of just 23,033 also has a Swat Team. They rushed in and held two white kids on the ground at gun-point for shooting potatoes into a lake setting hair spray as the propellant.
The whole thing about standing armies has been their historical use out of boredom. It is a shame to pay for something and then not use it. Police use to be friendly as shown in Normal Rockwell’s classic painting. Sure there are a few good souls still left. But the attitudes have shifted to being just mean and nasty as they look at the civilian population as evil.
This is a problem that is brewing and is extremely dangerous to say the least. Examples of police abuse are all over the internet. There has been a loss of respect for the people and there seems to be no way to reverse this process.
They sprayed protesters in the eyes during Occupy Wall Street movements everywhere. The conduct has been outrageous. This killing of this black teen is not simply racism. The problems are much deeper. Claiming this is just racism deflects the entire issue and makes it simply black-v-white. This is something far more serious for it is impacting our entire society.
The protests over land was yet another example. The police showed up with weapons and told the people they would shoot to kill. The police are being transformed from protecting the public into protecting government from the public. Most do not even see what transformation they have gone through.

Even though the economy has somewhat stabilized (at least for the moment), levels of anger and frustration have continued to grow in this country. We have been taught to hate one another and to blame one another for our problems, and so now the U.S. is more divided than at any other point in recent memory. We live at a time when things are so tense that even a small spark can light an absolutely huge fire. America has become a tinderbox. Next time it might not be a racially-charged shooting. Next time it might be an Ebola outbreak that sparks looting and panic. Or it might be some sort of financial collapse. We just don't know.
But what we do know is that there are lots and lots of people that are willing to riot and loot and commit unspeakable crimes given the right circumstances.
Decades of social decay have gotten us to the point where the thin veneer of civilization that we all take for granted every single day is wearing dangerously thin.
The truth is that it is not going to take much to push this nation over the edge.
If this kind of rioting can take place in a community with just over 20,000 people, what would a full-blown riot look like in a city with millions of people?
That is a very sobering thing to think about.
Once upon a time in America, you could leave your doors unlocked at night and you could let your kids play in the streets without ever having to worry.
But now we are a sick, decaying nation that has millions of people ready to riot and loot at the drop of a hat.
Is there any hope for us?

Medford, WI population 4,800 has a SWAT Team, and they've used it to arrest child support violators.
This is what you get when one group of people (unproductive people) democratically are given authority to control and rob from another group of people (productive people). Its a beautiful thing. Because we are just dumb enough to continue to believe that somebody somewheres in government has our interests at heart - or that we somehow have to accept the loss of rights as a price for the very thing we continue to lose - freedom. As long as people continue to believe that democracy = the will of the people - expect more of the same. Nobody in government has our intersts at heart. When they wake up - they ain't thinking about our welfare. Nuu uhh. They are thinking only about their own welfare - JUST I WOULD EXPECT THEM TO DO. This group of people is more dangerous than the poiticians and swat teams themselves because they have the power to inflict a whole lot of institutional harm on you. They have a legion of harrassers just waiting for marching orders to exercise force on trumped up charges of by-law infringements and fabricated breaches of civil law. And even if they are wrong it doesn't matter becuase they have destroyed you in the process. And they move on to the next guy.
As long as we continue to believe that government is going to solve everybody's problem - expect more of the same. As Proudhon so eloquently wrote:

I drove through the streets of Detroit for 37 years to get to work. This could have happened to me:
“Four men accused of punching and kicking a motorist who accidentally struck a 10-year-old Detroit boy were ordered Monday to stand trial on attempted murder charges, after a judge reviewed their statements to police and witnesses testified about the chaotic mob attack. The little boy was treated for a broken leg, but the driver was critically injured and still recovering at a local hospital.”
The American press condemned the beaten white man until they found out the 10-year boy was injured playing a game of chicken (running out in from of cars and waiting until the last second to jump back). The white man, who is still in a coma, would be dead if a brave off-duty nurse had not placed herself over the white man to try to take the blows as she screamed and pleaded with the crowd to come their senses and realize what they were doing! The white man may never come out of his coma.
Yet whites did not riot after this brutal attack by a mob of African Americans?
Yeah, same thing happened in East Austin where two hispanics were pulled from their car after almost hitting a black yute. The 'diverse' Mob beat one to death but the other was able to run away. Not much in the papers about it. Not much in the press about the nightly assaults by Thugs there either. Austin businesses don't like bad press. "Bad for tourism," they say.
That problem will be dwarfed.by Lake Travis running dry....

Thank you for mentioning this, it's a feeling I've had for a long time. When Mitt Romney trust fund baby extraordinaire accuses 53% of Americans of being moochers -- that is, when a potential FUTURE PRESIDENT is denigrating his country's citizens in some horribly overbroad attack on their character -- something is definitely wrong.
If democrats and republicans weren't continually being divided by their conquerors, they might even realize 90% of their grievances are one and the same.

It's not just the government. I remember going to corporate offices without needing to get a swipe card and badge from building security. Good luck trying to navigate any corporate office now without some kind of special pass. Anti-government types are only seeing part of the big picture. This is a stratification between elites of all kinds and the general public. There is no trust on either side and the militarization of "security" is the result. Things are only going to get worse.

Somebody should inform the looters that urban supply chains hold maybe a three day supply. It's all pretty much just in time supply. Nothing those looters consume is made where they come from, not water, not fuel, not food, not electricty, not goods, it all comes from somewhere else made by somebody else. One of these days those stores made get emptied and nothing will show up to replace it. Then they really will have something to complain about.

I don't think it will be long before this civil unrest breaks out into other cities. One gets the feeling that folks have had it with police brutality, road side shakedowns, no knock stormtrooper SWAT raids, and general corruption. Much like a criminal syndicate, there is a culture of silence on the misdeeds of their own. They will not enforce laws uopn fellow officers. Their bloated pensions are sickening as well. There needs to be major reform in police departments nationwide.

A "SHERIFF" is the chief "peace officer" of a COUNTY, directly elected by the people of that county; and under Amercan Common Law, he swears an OATH (which is, in fact, a CONTRACT) to obey the Common Law and the U.S. Constitution, which affirms the natural RIGHTS of people under the Common Law as affirmed in the Constitution. He owes NO allegiance to anyone except the people of his county; and he is bound by NO local, state or federal statutes. A sheriff's jurisdiction is solely within his county.
A county sheriff is the HIGHEST law enforcement official in his county; and his decision about the Law (the Common Law and the Constitution) over-ride the opinions of the President, the U.S. Attorney General, and every other government official (local, state or federal) with the sole exception of the U.S. Supreme Court. In fact, if a county sheriff decided that a federal agents (such as FBI) were violating the rights of people within his county, he could lawfully order them to leave the county -and if they did not leave, he could lawfully arrest them!!!
HOWEVER, if the sheriff takes his case before a Common Law court (the ONLY true "courd of record") with a trial by jury of 12 people residing in that county, the decision of that jury is FINAL and can NOT be questioned or appealed by anyone or any other court - including the U.S. Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court of the USA acknowledges the Common Law as supreme: “The judgment of a court of record [a Common Law court ONLY] whose jurisdiction is final, is as conclusive on all the world as the judgment of this court [the U.S. Supreme Court] would be. It is as conclusive on this court [the U.S. Supreme Court] as it is on other courts. It puts an end to inquiry concerning the fact, by deciding it." Ex parte Watkins, 3 Pet., at 202-203. [cited by SCHNECKLOTH v. BUSTAMONTE, 412 U.S. 218, 255 (1973)]
2.) A "MARSHAL" refer solely to an APPOINTED law enforcement officer. He is NOT elected; he is an office of the city/town that appointed him and is subject to that town/cities legislated acts, statutes, codes, ordinances, regulations, etc. A marshal's jurisdiction is solely within the borders of his town/city.
There are also federal marshals, who are also APPOINTED and who are subject to the acts, statutes, codes and regulations of the federal government.
3.) A POLICE CHIEF is also an APPOINTED law enforcement officer of a town or city,and thereby subject to the acts, statutes, codes and regulations of that town/city. A Police Chief's jurisdiction (as well as all of his police officers) is solely within the borders of his town/city.
1.) So, precisely WHAT is new about a police officer murdering an innocent black man? Doesn’t this happen to innocent black and white men every day in the U.S.? Perhaps even hundreds of times per day? And what about the hundreds, if not thousands, of incidents of police brutality every day? One need simply to visit the YouTube.com web site and type in such phrases as “police brutality”, “police abuse”, etc. and literally hundreds of videos of documented police brutality will appear. And these represent only those incidents captured on video and posted on YouTube. How many additional such incidents go undocumented? This latest “murder by cop” comes as no surprise to the black communities of America; and due to proliferation of cell phones capable of recording videos, such incidents are becoming more well-known among the American public as a whole.
The as yet unnamed Ferguson police officer shot 18-year-old Michael Brown multiple times, who police said was unarmed while he and a friend were walking down a road on their way home from a convenience store.
The police officer was upset because the two teens were walking in the road NEAR the sidewalk, so he ordered them to walk ON the sidewalk. When the teens ignored the officer's order, Dorian Johnson, Brown's friend, stated that the police officer fired one shot that missed them both. An eyewitness reported that this first shot hit a nearby building and was lodged in the wall. Scared, the two teens ran. Johnson continued, ""He [the police officer] shot again, and once my friend felt that shot [in the back], he turned around and put his hands in the air and he started to get down, But the officer still approached with his weapon drawn and fired several more shots." [The number of shots fired has not yet been revealed, but from witnesses and those who observed the dead body, the number of shots fired appears to be around 10, with 1 miss and 9 hits.]
HOW MANY MORE TIMES must such murders by police officers be tolerated? I would NOT condone or resort to looting, since the business owners affected by the looting were not responsible for this murder. Second, looting harms one’s community, while accomplishing nothing in terms of justice. That being said, as a white male, were such an incident to occur against ANYONE in my town by a police officer, I would seek out that police officer and "shoot him down like a dog".
2.) AN ALTERNATE SCENARIO:
a.) Background:
First, it should be remembered that police officers have NO MORE RIGHTS than the ordinary man on the street. Police have been granted additional POWERS by government (as government officers or employees) such as carrying firearms where otherwise prohibited, the power to enforce search and arrest warrants, etc.(Of historical interest, in the first police departments craeted in the U.S., such as in New York, a police officer was NOT allowed to be armed while on duty (much as the police in Britain - as constables or "Bobbies" formerly did not carry firearms); whereas the ordinary man COULD lawfully carry a firearm. The main reasons: 1.) it was feared that armed ploice would soon abuse their authority; and 2.) police officers respond to crimes already committed, while it is far more likely that an ordinary armed citizen may be on-scene to interrupt an ongoing crime OR that citizen will be the "first responder" to a crime already committed.
But an ordinary man can lawfully arrest another man - it is often called a "citizen's arrest". And under American (and British) Common Law, a man who is being UNLAWFULLY arrested by a police officer has the RIGHT to FORCEFULLY RESIST that arrest, matching violence with violence, including killing that police officer. This RIGHT was affirmed by the U.S. Supreme Court in the famous John Bad Elk case. In fact, another person - Man #2 witnessing an unlawful arrest by a police officer of man #1, has the RIGHT to stop the police officer from arresting man #1 using as much force as necessary to prevent the unlawful arrest (even lethal force), even if man #1 is not protesting or resisting his own arrest. This is NOT theory; this is a long-established RIGHT under the Common Law and affirmed as such by the U.S. Supreme Court.
Now, the police officer gains his additional POWERS by swearing an OATH (which is a CONTRACT in law), which then gives that officer "limited immunity" from Civil lawsuits when he has acted properly in the performance of his duties. BUT the government PAYS A COST for granting him this "limited immunity". In most instances the town/city is required to purchase a BOND (sort of an insurance policy) for each police officer to ensure that any court judgment against a police officer will be paid to the damaged party. In America true law is the Common Law under which every man has the RIGHT to contract (or NOT to contract) with another man, but each man assumes "full and unlimited commercial liability". In contrast, offices within a government are created by legislated acts (statutes, codes, regulations, ordinances) which are NOT law, but obtain the "force of law" ONLY through the CONSENT of each individual man. In short, an act or statute is, in fact, an OFFER TO CONTRACT - and if you agree to that contract, then you are bound by that statute. In the case of police officers, by assuming that office created by statute, they have agreed to that statute (as a contract) in exchange their salaries, "limited commercial liabilty" and additional police powers.
b.) ALTERNATE SCENARIO: If ordinary man #1 was walking down the street wearing BLUE SHOES and ordinary man #2 stopped man #1 and ordered him to take off his blue shoes, UNLESS there was a CONTRACT (just as a legislated act or statute is a contract) between these 2 men, then if man #1 refused to comply, would man #2 have the RIGHT to forcefully arrest or even shoot man #1?
The answer is obvious: No, of course not!
That is an example of the Common Law in America even today, which supersedes ALL legislated acts as statutes and even supersedes decisions of the U.S. Supreme Court.

Note: that decision was made in 1973. The Common Law is still the PRIMARY law with the U.S. - but ONLY if you demand that you be under the Common Law jurisdiction ONLY!
That is why the government (through the state and federal legislatures, plus the courts) make the PRESUMPTION that we have all agreed to be bound by their legislated acts as statutes - that we have all agreed to governments' "civil laws" (which are, by definition, contracts). And in law "A presumption NOT rebutted becomes a fact in Law." meaning that if you are too ignorant and fail to object to such a presumption by the police, courts, IRS or any other government agency, that's your tough luck!

Yes, more "understanding" police would help a lot. If the way armed thugs treat you doesn't impact your attitude towards them... then you are virtually alone in that notion. However, harsher police is far from the ONLY cause of these problems.
The other primary contributor is the incessant creation and enforcement of endless new arbitrary laws against behavior that harms no other individual (including, of course, the drug war).
But you also need to be realistic. If the government and cops stopped being such egregious authoritarian thugs tomorrow morning... it would take months, or perhaps even a couple years, to erase the attitude against them that they earned in spades over the past years and decades.

i am 59 ,, white,, successful,,, have worked for wages since i was 12 and picking fruit summers in West Michigan, bought all my own school clothes since the age of 14. I heard this story from my boss’s boss, he was a general manager, at GM at his going away lunch (downsized out). He was a well respected manager (later a CEO of a big auto parts company). I got to hear the story because I had to stay sober and drive my boss back to the office. He told the story because of an argument two mangers were having about why America was going downhill. Here is the story the manager told that I never forgot…
A distinguished awarded American Ivy League historian held in high esteem (he did not name him) was coming near the end of his life in 1973. After 45 years of reading almost every book on history and teaching, this historian, was dismayed that he could never quite sum up in simple words the fate of nations. Nothing had helped him whether it was the bible, learned ancient writers or modern historical texts. So while in ill health he gave himself one final task before he died fully knowing he might not live to see it through. His task was to define the fate of nations in the simplest terms.
To seed his dying wish he called one last time on a wealthy school donor and told her of his plight. He told her he knew he was dying and he wanted her to fund his dying wish. She was moved by his plight and granted the school the money (… because he had never asked her for funds in all the years she had known him…).
To do this final task he talked the school into letting him pick the best and brightest students in all backgrounds. Under his guidance these students began the task and worked months. But to his dismay they could only come up with pages and pages of definition that frustrated him to no end.
