Anyone know how to get rid of the BMO popup ad infecting me by coming to ZH? I'm using Firefox with popup blocker, but doesn't work.
Ran AdwCleaner, MalwareBytes, and HitmanPro. Still bullshit BMO banking garbage shows up on almost every page.
No wonder I feel so tired all the time. Now I know.

try avast virus protection...its a freedown load run complete scan...than when done it will ask to do a boot scan...do that also...we will see you tomorrow...my wifes system had an ad virus, she had norton...couldnt rid...i took maybe 10 hours with avast and got rid of it....good luck

The AdBlock iPhone app works great for reading ZH. Firefox with AdBlock Plus and Flashblock makes ZH quite readable on my PC.
I wonder when advertizes will figure out that badly behaved advertizing actually drives away customers.

That Norton antivirus is useless. I could not understand why my computer kept slowing down with the Norton's protection on. It could not stop nor detect a malware/adware that free Avast got rid of quickly. PC performance is back to normal now. I just downloaded the AVG, ran a scan and the PC TuneUp. Tried to uninstall the Avast after the free trial expired and it allowed me to continue using it free. Nice trick. Now I have both the Avast and AVG running simultaneously. Having just 1 antivirus program is risky these days. I used Norton for 2 years and is a waste of money.

Try adblock and ghostery plugins for firefox. I run both and almost never see ads here. The only times recently is when something new was added that ghostery had not caught yet.
click on the adblock and ghostery icons for "filters" to adjust ....

Use Chrome- thats how I did it.
If FF is compromised with an unsafe ad-on, that might be part of your problem (not sure what you have installed). I only use a few add ons.
That said, ad block plus is one of them and it works fairly well.
Lastly, FireFox will actually access the loopback IP (ports are usually in the 4x,xxx range) although FF staff have said this is typical and totally safe. Personally I think it is a BS response and completely unecessary. FF has really gone downhill lately with shitty UI changes and a general tone of ignoring what users want and doing their own arrogant design thing. That is my way of saying it could be a temporary FF security issue that will get patched in the future.
Browsers and hacking them is a perpetual arms race ...

Try Pale Moon. It's a fork of FireFox that has not yet followed FF down the path of alienating their core users.
Will look into that, thank you. Have been refusing to "upgrade" my FF because of the flawed direction it has been going of late (another alienated core user here).

I've been having pop up problems since they added the ad bar at the bottom of the screen. It goes away after I restart my ol'S3, but it starts creeping back after a day or two.

Delete your history on a regular basis. I am using Google browser and that helps the most when I do that.
I also downloaded Puran Utilities (freeware) and regularly clean the history, empty files, and defrag my computer (Windows XP) and it helps knock out the BS pop-ups. Hope that helps.
A lot of these ads come from JavaScript - you can turn that off and nealry all of them should go away. The problem is that JavaScript also does 'good' things like let you watch videos, re-positions your cursor after commenting, etc. JavaScript ads are not the standard Pop-Up or New Window ads that are easily blocked. Because JavaScript does the good things, and because you WANT those things, the advertisers hide these new ads within JavaScript - making them seem like part of the page whether you click on them or not -- thus making them hard to block. I usually flip JavaScript off unless there is something I want on a specific page. The other 'beauty' of JavaScript is that is runs on most smartphones and mobile devices so you can sneak in the same ad on all platforms! Curse them.

Like I have said many, many times before - I have paid AT LEAST a million in federal income taxes alone. As far as SS, it's running about 180K, with my employer doubling that number.

I actually had relatives who took care of their old folks, at home. This meant driving old cars, living in a house that was paid off. Not using the credit card at an over priced restaurant on Friday or Saturday night. Not borrowing money to go on a cruise. Not moving across country and abandoning the family, etc. etc. Those days have only been postponed for a few decades while people live beyond their means and throw their old folks in a shit hole (nursing home) to die. Credit bubbles are always unsustainable.
Americans now get pushed to the bottom of the list for section 8 housing. All the illegals jump to the top of the list. The waiting time for section 8 housing if you're an American (white) is 3++++ years.....
