Thanks for bringing up Serling....his genius was that he was able to put some really thought provoking ideas into a program that people actually watched and talked about.....compare his work to what is on TV now.....you need a full frontal lobotomy to be able to handle more than 10 sceonds of the current crap.

Yes, and he was marginalized in Hollywood, too, for being too outspoken and giving the public too much of the wrong things to be thinking about. He died suddenly & unexpectedly at age 50 of a heart attack. Back then, there ws no cable TV & the whole nation watched 3 network stations. His audience was an immense share of the genearl population. His ideas were dangerous to the establishment.

I remember the Twilight Zone on black and white TV, but I'm old. That show had some of the best scrips.
Serling also had a devastating experience while serving in World War II. During a lull at the Battle of Leyte Gulf in the Pacific, he was standing with his arm around a good friend and they were having their picture taken. At that moment, an Air Force plane dropped a box of extra ammunition that landed on Serling's friend and flattened him so fatally that he couldn't even be seen under the box.
"Many 'Zone' episodes are about that split-second of fate where somebody arbitrarily gets spared or, absurdly, does not," Brode said.
