We’ve Opened the Gates of Hell
Preface: we’ve written thousands of articles on Fukushima and radiation. But this post will spotlight recent articles from EneNews … with which we have no affiliation of any nature whatsoever.
The American media hasn't covered Fukushima for a long time. But that doesn't mean there hasn't been any news. It just means that the U.S. and Japanese governments have worked hard to cover it up.
Here’s a roundup of recent news (links to EneNews; click through to see original source material ... that's how the web WORKS):
Radiation
- Nuclear fuel found 15 miles from Tokyo suburbs — Fukushima uranium in ‘glassy’ spheres transported over 170 km — Structural materials from the nuclear reactors also present (PHOTOS). Previously: Scientists: ‘Spheres’ of radioactive material from Fukushima reported for first time — Ball-like particles composed of cesium, iron, zinc — Solid and insoluble in water — Impact on human health needs to be examined (PHOTOS)

Here's my 2013 20-page summary if it helps anyone...not much to say any more. Spray n pray n live another day.....
http://jopy.org/jimn.pdf
jim in MN, thank you for re-posting your 20 page summary. it's always welcome, and it's great to hear from you again. yes, spray n pray n live another day...indeed.
Thanks for the great art! It took billions of years to create nature's genomes and about 70 years to devise how to disassemble them.
What stunning folly, fools!
Way to go environmentalists -
Please stop trying to "help" with your "clean safe nuclear energy"
Here's the body score:
Reactor 0 Tsunami 50,000
Millions upon millions of unborn babies due to nuclear power, buried in Infant Mortality Rates, over the years, and a sharp increase after 3/11.
Or do unborn children not count?
Millions upon millions of unborn babies due to nuclear power.
Pales in comparison to the number of babies unborn due to abortions. 55+ million in the U.S. since 1973, 1.3 billion world-wide since 1980. But that's just people exercising a "choice".
this is the problem with self identifiying environementalists. they look at teh horrific tragedy of nuclear power and get stuck in without contextualizing the relevance of nuclear power at the large stistical/demographic/epidimilogical scale.
making the case that radiation is bad because of unborn children. is acceptable. anythign fucking with reproduction is obviously unhealthy.
making the case it is a disaster ----is absurd.
there is a big difference between something being sad and bad, and being a disaster. the difference is scale, and that story usually plays out over history and the emotional types have a hard time getting their head around it without being fed the statistics on a predigested basis.
mayhem...you have obviously done your homework. good job.
The collapse of everything will be very bullish for the stock markets.
There is a single blogger who has covered Fukushima from day one. This blogger is Japanese and posts in English and Japanese. This bloger has the appropriate biz experience in Japan and around the world, has a research background and academic creds.
http://ex-skf.blogspot.com/
The posts are fact driven. Scroll through yourself and take a look.
There is no one else doing such detailed work on Fukushima. Period. Worldwide. And there is no one with the range of expertise in research who can hold a candle to this blogger.
No one else listens to hours of droning TEPCO press conferences or translates page after page of dreary presentations with grungy details about ice dams and failiing filter systems.
------------------------
If you are really interested in Fukushima, quit relaying on 3rd and 4th level regurgiators like George Washington and Tyler on this topic. They are drive-bys.
Some things about Fukushima are worse than what they report. Some things are better.
Case in point, the hysteria about the "immnient collapse" of one of the buildings - its been imminent for years now. No retraction from GW types on the scary headlines pushed over and over. The hysteria could have been cured with some commentary by independant structrual engineers and some up to date photography. This was done, repeatedly, on this bloggers site. Ignored.
Personaly I have given up on the topic and will not respond to oher commmenters anymore - go read the blog yourself.
Pareto Rule says that 80% of ZH readers are satisfied with GW posts on Fukushima (think junk food: lots of quanity, no quality, a brief sugar spike, makes you hungry for more),
but 20% retain curiosity to unover the truth and 20% of that 20% will spend some time digger further (and are not willing to rely on GW or Tyler as their editors).
So to that 4% who do want to understand the facts surrounding the Fukushima accident and the implications gonig forward -Fukushima points to even bigger risks elsewhere - read this blog.

Ex-skf is good. right from the beginning.
Can I recommend Mari Takenouchi? She's been vocal about her concerns BEFORE Fukushima blew up.

Is http://fukushima-diary.com/ any good? Just asking.
Young Japanese guy who fled JP after Fuku. Has been bounced from country to country trying to find a permanent home. Have been following him since he started blogging. Translates a lot of japanese source materials. Over the period he's taught himself very decent english (possibly french as well). Haven't read one thing of his that has prompted me to question his judgement or authenticity, and has retracted or corrected when better info has become available to him. Have utmost respect for him (as do many other Fuku watchers) as he's gracefully endured the paralysing grief and uncertainty of a radiation refugee who despite his own suffering, has continued to work on his blog to inform others. My kudos, grattitude and respect to you Mochizuki.

Mochizuki is awesome.
The human race won't survive much longer if short term corporate profits are the only guide to decision making those in positions of power use.
This is the core of the problem. Unfortunately, those at the top of the decision making tree are mostly psychopaths and narcissists who excel at climbing to positions of power but also lack any empathy for others or real concern for the future.
The real horror of Fukushima is that those in power will cover up the truth in order to preserve their personal power and privilege. But without the truth coming out the general public can not be roused to support any real solution.
This is where the system breaks down: those in power only have to keep the public confused and distracted. This frees them to pursue power and money and build webs of influence between power structures. The whole process is so entrenched at this point that there is probably no way out.
I think that our seeming failure to understand that the "Tragedy of the Commons" is also an immanent threat to our survival as a species is an implication of Prof. Bartlett's assertion that our biggest failure is the inability to comprehend the exponential function.
I say we nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure. Oh wait.....

All good reasons to BTFD
To all the ZH lunatics who believe in Mr Washington's journalistic radioactive tripe

If you believe GW you believe that the UN and a dozen other NGOs are lying to you. So you are either delusional or uneducated. Assuming the later I attach the above link and embedded links to credible sources.
Stop supporting LNT scientific nonsense.
After 60 years there is no evidence to support LNT. LNT is an outdated political construction and NOT a scientific one. To support GW's radioactive tripe on ZH is to be a peon in an old political game.

...I got better....
sorry to burst your bubble, but a couple of Q's you may find difficult.
1] why are the detectors arround fukushima not in a symetrical pattern both in radius and from each other ?
Answer : because they are placed at the points of lowest readings, and therefore give significantly lower results than the real placements would show.
What science lab would do that for their own experiments ? and if they did, would they be credible within the scientific community ?
2] Do other media sources deliver unbiased material when reporting other subjects ?
Answer for yourself..... hint;
GE who built the reactors at fukushima are part of a corporate umbrella that includes many news media outlets.
3] if Chernobyl has a quater of the background radiation but has forbid residency within a distance from their site [despite the concrete cap], why are people told it's ok to live in the vicinity of fukushima ?
answer : perhaps too many people to move, and no where to move them to. Specially Tokyo, 20Million... and geiger counters go nuts there.
4] Fukushima is untamed since march 2011. Never seen before. anywhere. ever.
as are many of the particles escaping from there.
5] any engineer can tell you that using a finite capacity to store an ever increasing quantity isnt going to work for ever. [water containment]
& creating an ice-wall requires so much energy you need a nuclear reactor to power it [doh!]...
No robots exist yet to dismantle the hotest cores, and no covering of these sources is posible either. So it is open.
just saying......
The world needs to come together and build the largest crane ever imagined to methodically dismantle the buildings and reactors to finally reach the molten cores. Then dispose of them in containment areas.
Yes we are in uncharted waters but we have to reach those cores and soon.
Go lick an iphone charger.
LNT is valid, the results from real life studies confirm it, and you're genocidal psycho or just a dumb fuck.
Forbes, WSJ or some nuke promo website are not credible sources.
Not going to waste my time on your stupid ass more than this.
Aren't these the same people who tell you Saddam isn't safe because he's chucking babies out of incubators? Aren't they also saying Monsanto is healthy and bananas have radiation, 'WHICH IS GOOD FOR YOU'? And aren't these the people helping TEPCO doctor the numbers and using doctored numbers to predict healthy exuberance of quantitative radiation (while never discussing particles, waste, bioaccumulation etc.)?
Over 600 years there is no evidence that scientists are honest.
who pays the piper calls the tune.
white coat "science" dudes subscribed to .gov fiat long ago. . .
co-opted. act accordingly.
the thing is i tend to agree with you about this being alarmist to an extent---however, GW AND OTHERS VERY DEFINITIVELY DOCUMENTED THAT THE JAPANESE GOVERNMENT AND THE U.N AND THE UNITED STATES HAVE ALL BEEN LYING SO YES.
REGARDING NUCLEAR CONTAMINATION
THE U.N. LIES. FACT.
THE U.S. LIES FACT
JAPAN LIE FACT
fukushima is much worse than cherynobyl, far worse, and yet, ----becayse chernobyl was turned into a concrete tomb ---and gated off, much of the area is fine now. in fact, the wildlife has grown back faster than ever because of the absence of human development.
which tells you something. wildlife is very robust even to substantial amoutns of radiation . why? because mass die offs can happen and whichever creatures survive get to enjoy the remaining bounty and reproduce.
and here's the kicker-----human beings are part of wildlife.
the alarmism is that 'we will all die' because of x,y,z,. no, some of us will die. the black plague killed as many as 1/3 of all europeans . maybe even most of us will die.
but there are 7 billion people. kill half and there are still 50% more people than existed 110 years ago. and get this-----the old and the sick usually die first. and there more of those then ever.
the affects of toxic radiation are totally natural, it is only that they are almost always experienced deep underground diffusely as the radionucleotides are fonud. all we have done for mother nature is distilled their essence and bombarded them with neutrons . this is all perfectly natural, and the death and poisoning from it is as well.
don't forget there are numerous old unsafe reactors on the eastern seaboard of the united states and thus this region of the atlantic truly is ground zero for potential nuclear power plant failure contamination holocaust in the next hundred or more years. it is a slow death with lots of cancer , diffusely experienced.
humanity on the other hand, like termites, are easily distracted from ,and forget about long term poisoning.
it's the short term fast acting poisoning, and the violence of theft and war WAR itself------that are the things humanity responds to most directly.
oh HELL YES the UN and WHO have been lying to us.
please listen to these interviews?

and no, wildlife doesn't "thrive" in nuclear dead zones. some species are more affected, but eventually all complex lifeforms are. (sorry)
'nuclear' dead zones is propoganda. i'm not pro or anti-nuclear. there are good arguments in favor of both and , in general, the reality of corruption precludes the realistic possibility of nuclear power ever being a clean source of energy.
however, there are very few dump sites that can properly be called dead zones, perhaps the lake in russia that is the most contaminated place in the world. but not even that.
a 'dead' zone is a somewhat inaccurate term in a biological sense. deap sea benthic hyper saline low oxygen strateified water lakes (that are below the ocean and sitting on top of the sea floor) can sometimes be devoid of most life, but even they have bacteria.
even lakes in antartica below many meters of ice trapped for thousands of years have some bacteria.
the so called 'dead zones' you describe are anything but dead. nuclear power plants in ukraine are in heavily forested areas and you are talking nonsense like a rabid anti-nuclear acvitist who caanot distinguish between a reality replete with lies, and what risks indeed exist.
if htere is one relaistic reason to oppose all nuclear power it is because of the risk of plants being systemically bombed in a major war. not because of occasional accidents.
THUS YOU DON'T CHOOSE TO HAVE NUCLEAR POWER AS A NATION UNLESS YOU CAN DEFEND IT WITH NUCLEAR WEAPONS AND OTHER STRATEGIC DEFENSE.
the idea of countries having nuclear power for 'peaceful purposes' is a joke because the mere danger of the plants being bombed means you gotta have nukes to defend the plant, meaning if you don't have nukes and youre 'building' a power plant it is because you are going to use it to make nuclear weapons grade fuel.
the real reason to be against nuclear power for your 'own' country is if you are a pacifist and against nuclear weapons.
the sorta long term real reasons to be against nuclear weapons is if your own country is too small to suffer a nuclear accident well.
japan is being poisoned . france is quite small as well, and yet they have a stellar record. the u.s. is huge, and has room for many many nuclear dump sights that are essentially toxic waste sites like hanford. as horrible as they are , you cordinon them off and just don't let people in. they will be toxic for thousands of years---LIFE WILL STILL GROW THERE---but it will be irradiated and like chernobyl but smaller.
when i use the word 'thrive' i mean, that yes---life and wildlife frequently are in more abundance around places near a nuclear reactor that has been shuttered because the lack of human development is actuallyt the determining factor in forests being chopped down and wildlife replaced with livestock and pets and hunted for food and competed out of their landscape.
it's not radiation ---it's human development that is primarily responsible for the ongoing extinction of species.
Chernobyl is NOT OK... still crazy readings and the bugs and plants have radiation based mutations that are 'unique'... been to Ukraine spoken to the hordes of Chernobyl 'tourists' & part time scientists &pro's and seen the documentaries... it is not adjusted for safe human existaence and wont be for a very long time. Dont wing it when you dont know.
These children from Chernobyl have something to say about it:

+1 seataka, amazing site - very funny..... what a badass !
Hey if women want to move to Alaska to work in stripper clubs it is up to them. I would warn against it due to Radiation and the Risk of Birth Defects when the inevitable happens.
If women want to Join the Army to serve overseas, I warn against it.
If Dick & Liz Cheney want to go back in to Iraq, with Division or more of Troops, I warn against boots on the ground to support the Oil Corporations and Mining Operations.
I recommend people look at what Fascism, Anarchy, Socialism in Congressional Benefits are, Corporate Subsidies are, Corporate Wars are, Private Profits off of Government or Military Socialized Costs, and expenses and crimes of Empire are.
Chances are you know a Militant Republican, Militant Democrat, or a Fascist... a lot less likely that you know someone from the Social Workers Party or an Anarchist.
Look at Hillery & Obama, both warmongering Fascist.
Good God. You're an anarchist. What will you replace it with. The Empire of you and your chums?
Nothing like a good scare to take the 'dull' out of so many dull days. Like children sitting around the campfire telling ghost stories. I have to admit, I find it all pretty interesting, too. And, sometimes the ghost is real.
WB7 is particularly resonant when he does Japanese-themed pieces. Bravo on this one.
'We', didn't open them............
No, 'we' didn't, but 'we' will all share in the 'bounty' . . .
Are you referring to the bounty that fraction of my 1200kW a month nuke power represents? Or the bounty of security expense, documentation costs, excessive management overhead, financial waste, corruption, sloth of unions and pollution of the world the nuclear industry has wrought upon us all??
I pay a monthly premium voluntarily for renewable energy every billing period and would like nothing more than the 4 reactor sites and 1 DOE sight within a days drive of my home to be decommissioned, dismantled, cleaned (if that is possible), cordoned off and forgotten. I have watched too many employed in that industry suffer horrible deaths, near retirement age, from related exposures..
Bounty for you maybe, Industrial scam and death to me.
Like a movie poster for a new skeletal Godzilla movie. All the set-up plot elements are there.
Here is a useful FAQ written by a radio chemist from Woodshole who actually went out and measured the radiation in the water and aquatic life in the Pacific.
Lot's of science based facts and useful information without the over hype.

A Special Report On the Fukushima Nuclear Catastrophe
FUKUSHIMA : A Nuclear Catastrophe of Epic Proportions
Whilst there is hamburgers to eat and reality TV to watch humanity will lack the consciousness to become aware of himself.....let alone his surroundings. Unfortunately great wisdom of past years is being lost to new advances in 'technology' and the 'synthesized' way of living. Only it will be too late when the realisation comes that we are in fact a part of the natural web and not above it.
Hey i heard the new iphone 6 is coming out !!
...man who eats with tongue not fork should not be trusted
No, it can't be real world measurable pollution, it has to be the nebulous "Climate Change". Come on now, it's something we can all get political about, kumbaya and all that Marxist idiocy, plus there is plenty of printed up funding for Climate Change "research", campaigns, protests and hysteria. We can all "feel" good about ourselves, all you need to do is JUST BELIEVE.
