NATO Accuses Russia Of Escalating Ukraine Conflict, Demands Withdrawal Of Russian Troops From Border

Tyler Durden's picture

Update: it just got interesting:

  • RASMUSSEN ASKS RUSSIA TO WITHDRAW TROOPS FROM UKRAINE BORDER
  • RASMUSSEN SAYS RUSSIA RESUPPLIED MATERIALS TO SEPARATISTS
  • RUSSIA CROSSED UKRAINE BORDER LAST NIGHT, RASMUSSEN SAYS
  • NATO SEES CONTINUOUS FLOW OF RUSSIAN WEAPONS INTO UKRAINE

And now, we await tweets of more de-escalation while Putin is laughing, even as the world officially enters Cold War 2.0:

  • NATO COUNTRIES MUST GRADUALLY RAISE DEFENSE SPENDING: RASMUSSEN

... first for conventional weapons, then for tactical and strategic ICBMs?

* * *

"Remember when"... US futures soared by over 60 point in 5 trading days on what was the tiniest hint that Putin may be de-escalating based on a Russian media report citing the "good cop" Russian security council? Well, NATO disagrees with the momentum chasing algos, and this odd spin coming out of Russia. Moments ago NATO said that Russia, while calling for de-escalation of the Ukraine conflict, had in fact been escalating it.

Reuters cites NATO spokeswoman Oana Lungescu who said the alliance was checking eyewitness reports in two British newspapers on Friday that a column of at least 23 Russian military vehicles had crossed into Ukraine overnight.

"If confirmed, they are further evidence that Russia is doing the very opposite of what it's saying. Russia has been escalating the conflict, even as it calls for de-escalation," she said in response to a question from Reuters.

"It is high time that Russia did what it says it wants to do, which is to contribute to a peaceful solution. Russia needs to pull back its troops, stop the flow of arms and fighters over the border with Ukraine, stop supporting the separatists and engage in a genuine and sincere dialogue with Ukraine."

Of course, this report would have been conveniently delayed until after close of trading if the market still cared about geopolitics, as this headline would have rejected the very basis of the rally over the past week. However, at this point, all that matters are pin points and technical charts ahead of today's Op-Ex; in fact the more cynical ones may claim that the zero-volume rally was nothing but yet another manipulation attempt to inflict max pain on the recent surge of protection buyers. But that would be illegal, so clearly the reason for today's ongoing ramp is the "market" simply reverting to its now standar mode of refusing to react to any headline that does not justify groupthink.

OPERATION GLADIO

(Source Docs)

NATO’s Secret Armies: Operation GLADIO and terrorism in Western Europe

It describes in meticulously footnoted detail the existence of the so-called Gladio stay-behind networks which had been NATO’s best kept secret for forty or more years, and which briefly emerged into the daylight through a series of scandalous disclosures in Italy.

These stay-behind networks were, in essence, secret armies in fourteen European countries created with the intent of remaining dormant and being activated in the event of a Soviet land invasion.

Not only were these armies kept secret from the official governmental structures of the host countries – falling instead under the auspices of the CIA and MI6 – but compelling evidence emerged in the 90s to show that they went a long way beyond this original remit and participated in anti-democratic agitation and even terrorist atrocities.

Over 200 Bombings

Sibel Edmonds on Operation Gladio Part I, Part II, Part III, Part IV, Part V.

Italian Supreme Court President On Gladio

"Gladio was designed to demonize political opposition and “force the public to turn to the state to ask for greater security,” according to the testimony of former Gladio agent Vincenzo Vinciguerra. In 2000, an Italian parliamentary investigation found that the 1980 Bologna train bombing, which killed 85 people, was carried out by “men inside Italian state institutions and … men linked to the structures of United States intelligence.”

“You had to attack civilians, the people, women, children, innocent people, unknown people far removed from any political game,” Vinciguerra explained in sworn testimony.

“The reason was quite simple. They were supposed to force these people, the Italian public, to turn to the state to ask for greater security. This is the political logic that lies behind all the massacres and the bombings which remain unpunished, because the state cannot convict itself or declare itself responsible for what happened,” he added."

NATO is gloriously oblivious of its own crimes in Ukraine:

The fascist atrocities in east Ukraine and the fraud of “humanitarian” war

By Alex Lantier
14 August 2014

The siege of the Ukrainian cities of Donetsk and Luhansk, launched by the regime in Kiev and abetted by the US government and the European Union (EU), is a barbaric act of collective punishment.

The political gangsters in Kiev and their sponsors in Washington and the European capitals have unleashed fascist paramilitary units, such as Right Sector and the Azov Battalion, to wage war on the entire population of east Ukraine. They are shelling hospitals, maternity wards, and chemical factories, firing rocket salvos indiscriminately into city centers, and cutting off water, food, electricity, and medicine to cities with a combined population of over 1 million people. The slaughter has already claimed over 2,000 lives, including hundreds of civilians.

The hypocrisy of the NATO powers' howls of outrage that a Russian truck convoy bearing humanitarian aid might now enter into east Ukraine is sickening. Having attacked Yugoslavia, Libya and Iraq on the pretext that invasion was the only way to protect civilians, they are now turning 180 degrees and demanding that their puppet regime be allowed to murder east Ukrainians undisturbed.

I guess who is the aggressor and who is the aggressee all depends on how far back in history one looks.

NATO is calling the current government the legitimate government.

But, it has only been in power for 3 months after a US/NATO instigated coup.

But the Russia favorable government that was in power prior to 3 months ago had replaced a NATO/US aligned government prior to that.

And that US/NATO aligned government came into power via the "orange" color revolution back in 2005 and THAT was instigated by the US and NATO... which was designed to surround and isolate Russia.

I assume that the government thrown out in the western created color revolution was Russia friendly.

One wonders why NATO, the US AND Russia can't just let the Ukrainian people alone.

Hey Bub,

In case you haven't noticed, the US is having a problem with it's own 'color' revolution.

I think the most legitimate government in Ukie was the one immediately before the present fascist junta. At least it was elected. Sort of. All others have been western puppets.

"At least it was elected. Sort of."

Not sort of.  Yanukovich won fair and square in 2010.  Even Western observers admitted the election was entirely legit.

That's why the coup d'etat of Vicky Kaganovich Nudelmann is the original sin in all of the current drama.

Had we respected the sovereign will of the Ukrainian people and allowed the presidential election scheduled for February 2015 to occur, Crimea would still be part of Ukraine and there would be no civil war.

Had Yanukovich attempted to steal the election, observers would have blown the whistle on him just as they did in 2004, precipitating the Orange Revolution.

What will happen if Russia decide to occupy NATO coutry i.e Latvia or Finland? Nothing, I don't think Germans will be sending planes to attack Russia as part of NATO it is suiccide to fight US war interest. It is only Putin patiance that things did not escalete in favor of Russia. It take balls to play games like US does on the Russian border.

Just stay civil.

I used to think the US Deep State was merely sociopathic: most of TPTB are as that makes it easier to make huge amounts of money and wield power in order to gain more.

Unfortunately, the US Deep State (which of course includes UK and Israel, with Canada, Australia, NewZealand, the EU and Japan being eunuch servants to the master puppeteers) is far beyond being merely sociopathic and is clearly psychopathic. Criminally psychopathic as the false flag events of the past N years (take N as far back as you want) show a total disregard for life and suffering.

MH17 is just the latest... add to the phosphorus bombs dropped in Ukraine, burning civilians to death in Odessa, the genocide in Gaza, 9/11, the litany goes on and on.

What scares the hell out of me is that such an array of countries under the sway of the US/UK/Israel Deep State has made them think they are invincible, not just arrogant: the problem is that they are bad poker players as IMHO Putin will not back down as he correctly sees what is happening in Ukraine as an existential threat to Russia. As a result, this thing can go nuclear in the blink of an eye particularly if the US Deep State was stupid enough to publish in the CFR that the US Deep State could take out Russia with a first strike: so now the fate of the world is on a hair trigger.

Either way, we're all sc***ed.

RASMUSSEN ASKS RUSSIA TO WITHDRAW TROOPS FROM UKRAINE BORDER

Amazing!!! Truly.

Someone in the Duma needs to ask "Foegger" about the repatriation of all that has been stolen from the legitimate Ukraine government 5 months ago, including the oil, gas and gold...  Compensation to the thousands of homes and businesses that have been destroyed, and the 700,000 that have fled for Russia and other places in Eastern Europe.

Not to mention the more than 2,000 dead and 6,000 wounded since the "installed" government took over which includes war crimes and the use of WMDs...

Russian military offensive? Russian escalation?

Today, according to AFP, Donetsk is now a "bastion", not a city.

Intense shelling on Lugansk and the main insurgent bastion of Donetsk left more than 25 people dead

The need for aid was clear, as heavy shelling smashed into the centre of Donetsk, once a bustling city of one million.

If the Western NWO in fact pushes the U.S. into war with Russia, I would guess it will have the least public support of any war in U.S. history.

The U.S. public is tired of continuous, unneccessary wars.  Besides, it is one thing to push around countries like Afghanistan and Iraq.  But to try to push around Russia who has tacit backing by China is a beast we likely don't want to confront.

Russia actually has the ability to inflict pain on U.S. soil unlike other adversaries we have faced.

Sad days for Amerika.

"contribute to a peaceful solution" is a nice flexible phrase.  It means Russia must withdraw all its troops from the border and have no bases this side of the Urals.  It also means Ukrainian troops can fight rebels inches from the border and lob the occasional shell into Russian territory.

The NATO-proposed DMZ will be entirely on Russian territory.  Today 50 km might make Rasmussen happy.  Tomorrow, it will be 80 km or 100 km.  Just keep moving east, you Russkies, and let us control that territory for you.
