Obama Putting Vacation On Hold, Returning To Washington For "Unspecified Meetings"
Earlier we joked that "it is rumored, although unlikely, that a city devolving into a state of emergency and actual curfew, will be enough for the president to take a break from his golf game and make a teleprompted statement later today." Just a few short hours later, in a stunning development and in what may well be a first for the president, Obama announced he planned to take a break in the middle of his Martha's Vineyard vacation and return to Washington on Sunday night for "unspecified meetings with Vice President Joe Biden and other advisers."
According to CBS "The White House has been cagey about why the president needs to be back in Washington for those discussions. Part of the decision appears aimed at countering criticism that Obama is spending two weeks on a resort island in the midst of so many foreign and domestic crises."
Well, he is. But one wonders if the president taking a break from taking a break will fix everything overnight. If Obama was indeed serious about fixing things, instead he should have announced that he was staying on the Vineyard for the next two years.

He made on-camera statements on U.S. military action in Iraq and the clashes between police and protesters in Ferguson, Missouri. He called foreign leaders to discuss the tensions between Ukraine and Russia, as well as between Israel and Hamas."
"I think it's fair to say there are, of course, ongoing complicated situations in the world, and that's why you've seen the president stay engaged," White House spokesman Eric Schultz said.
Obama is scheduled to return to Martha's Vineyard on Tuesday and stay through next weekend.
Even though work has occupied much of Obama's first week on vacation, he still found plenty of time to golf, go to the beach with his family and go out to dinner on the island.
He also attended a birthday party for Democratic adviser Vernon Jordan's wife, where he spent time with former President Bill Clinton and Hillary Rodham Clinton.
So... futures open limit up in a few hours as the algos price in even more global destruction and resulting monetary "stimulus"?

Putin has been pretty outspoken about the global economic problems related to the USD. He and the rest of the BRICS are working as we speak here on an alternative currency to trade and settle commodities.
There's not really anything Obama or the FED could do to change the course of the future. They will try and hide their problems with a massive war. Let's hope cooler heads prevail and just give the US the cold shoulder was it drifts into nothingness and mediocrity.

I think Ukraine's game is up. German media has been highly critical of the whole situation and don't forget they are pissed off over the NSA thing and a whole host of other issues. Its not just the spying, its also refusing an explanation. That was an even bigger insult than the spying itself (we spy just as well).
In short Bush the minor and Obama the liar have managed to fuck up relations with their true allies (the European economic core up north) and NOBODY in Europe is going to war with Russia over Ukraine. There is no gain there. There is also increasingly no gain to be had with being friends with the US...in fact, its fast becoming a liability.
The current situation in the middle east shows the absolute ineptness of american foreign policy and maybe even the entire american world view. European leaders are going to make damn sure their backyard doesnt look like that.

Do you have a source on this. Haven't found anything credible myself. This isn't a bad thing. Its a diplomatic effort and theres a lot of ground to be covered. No agreement indicates that there was indeed something hefty on the table and this is not some candy-diplomacy. Steinmeier and Lavrov are true diplomats, old school and I suspect they've both been given good mandates by Putin and Merkel.
France taking part is also hugely significant if only to signal some kind of european unity on this.
If I figure this correctly, this is huge and something that Obama should be very worried about. Something that you can also very much attribute to Obama. Bush did a lot of damage with the Iraq war, but nothing that Obama wouldn't have been able to restore. But he didn't. Leaders here are also looking towards the next US election and a Republican clean sweep is expected. We can't do business with republicans so this is the perfect time to a) move away from u.s. policy b) frustrate the effort to build a unified european foreign policy (which neither France nor Germany really wants).

PS as a Dutchman I'm once again disappointed that my own government was apparently left out of this. But its expected. The dutch have a particular blindness to this kind of dealing. We're still friends with the US of old (we still name streets after Kennedy) but fail to see that US no longer exists. We also hold to a naive belief in European integration and neglect our own diplomacy. Shame, because were good at that. Our governments are weak but our foreign ministers are second to none. Hey pal... By the time the loudmouthed American braggarts landed in Italy in September 1943 and Normandy in June 1944, the Red Army had the Nazi army in full retreat and diarray. Most knowledgable folks about the war are aware that the Battle of Stalingrad was the turning point in the war and it was over in February of 1943. The bottom line is that the Americans were late to the party and did some mopping up after the serious fighting had been done on the Eastern Front, not much more than that.
