thought you said turnkey for a moment there, which it is which is why we can appoint matronly bureaucrats, and bearded academics, and while we make fun of them the system runs itself. the only way you can mess up a turnkey operation is to throw a wrench in the works, otherwise you just listen, wall street will tell you what they want, and when they blow up then you come to the rescue, mroe so than you do on a daily basis. its not a hard job, the problem now is the economy is changing and the politicians wont deal with the problem of who gets to keep the wealth when robots do all the work ( i think the people deserve most of it but thats just me)
The great thinkers, like Huxley, who imagined the scenario we are rolling into, envisaged that our overlords would have to make huge investments in the infrastructure necessary to placate the Sheeple.
Unfortunately, our current overlords still think they can have their cake and eat it too. They think the dawn of silicon society is a license to pilfer the masses.
I am not a collectivist, but I don't see how we can continue on the current trajectory. There are just too many displaced people who are young. They are not going to just die and disappear. And the idea that they have to pay all the debt on top of the misery brought upon them is explosive. They look at all the new silicon royalty, in between Kardashian episodes, and quietly boil.
The fact that the police have been heavily militarized is not some fucking unfortunate accident. The same people who approve giving them surplus hardware also approve the purchase of millions of rounds of ammo by every agency in the statist Alphabet.

PS, the current political meme of giving everyone a job in government is certainly not the panacea they hope for. It is one of the primary drivers motivating the "haves" to continuously denude the liberties of the "have nots".
