Are they Vietnam era surplus or sumptin?
The Pentagon is handing out surplus assault rifles to police departments...
Those rifle stocks are pure Vietnam era. Military must have a warehouse or two of them left over.
No respectable jihadist would ever be seen without a collapsible stock.
Those are M16 A2. 1980s and later issue full size rifle. Still fielded by some Marine units.
the weapon of choice there is the AK47 along with the RPG which is also usually Russian made those two are the staples of combat.
That's what I always thought. AK's were the weapons of choice for 3rd world armies.
Obviously they got a hold of some US lite weapons cache's when the US supplied Iraq army ran like little girs when ISIS moved into town.
Either that, or the pic has been photoshopped.
an IED is also a US artillery shell rigged with a US cellphone (made in China) but our hitech Army found the technology very effective. they were slow to come up with a countermeasure, it would be the equivalent of the pacific field sailing into a mine field and sinking. no investigation was made, no questions were asked and no one was fired over that issue.
They have been pilfering all the Iraqi armories loaded up with surplus US hardware.
Yeah, I saw a flatbed loaded down with Humvees in my browsings, its like Iraqis are the new French ;-)
As an aside, I'd rather have the AK, its a better weapon.

Apologies to Jeff Cooper but I reckon there's more than a few folks who wouldn't refer to the M-16 as poodle-shooters.
Yeah, I know, but dropping it in last nights muddle puddle, with blowing sand today because some guy jumped you and having it jam as his five buddies rush you is just a little bit disconcerting.
I want it to shoot, when needed, no matter what or who at.

Does anyone else agree those rifle butt stocks look 60-70'ish?
I know they still make those forward rifle grips. I've seen them at gun shows, but don't see anything but collapsible gun stocks, except for hunting rifles that have either wood or polymer gun stocks.
OK, I was wrong. Looks like Colt still makes Vietnam era look-alikes.

Oddly, a PBS video last night on the history of The Tower of London had a bit about beheadings.
They described the difficulty of doing one, how many times the executioner needed several
blows with his hefty axe to finally sever the head of the accused. And this with the person already
in an ideal position, with a block for his head with chin cutouts.
While watching this documentary/history, I thought about the facile and faux event being foisted off on us
as a contemporary beheading.

Ooh, that's a bit dark, but correct. "Foley" had the rigid body position of a CPR dummy. No way you're just gonna stand there rigidly while someone saws at your neck, no screaming, no moving around. And the video cuts back to the finished product. Look at the body on the ground, no tan or hair on the arms, ankles are very pale, no hair. Not nearly enough blood. I'm calling psy op.
