Ukraine President Dissolves Parliament, Announces It On Twitter

Tyler Durden's picture

Last week we were intrigued when the Ukraine Central Bank announced its FX market intervention plans not via 'trader sources" or Bloomberg but through its Facebook account (which later failed as the Hryvnia pushed on to record lows). Today, we hear perhaps even more important news - that Ukraine President Poroshenko has dissolved parliament. This was not entirely surprising news given recent political breakdowns but his chosen medium to disseminate this crucial (and potentiall detsabilizing) news... his Twitter account.

The crucial Twitter account to follow for all Ukrainians...

I'd prefer people to make important announcements on twitter.

That way the bullshit media doesn't have a chance to "filter" the information for their purposes, like Huffpo and other propaganda outlets do every day.

The latest annpuncemnets not surprising considering the "communication" regarding the downed airliner was pushed out thru same channels. More likely he will control those who count the votes.  The election then is corrupt but represented as the will of the people and then he and his henchmen can do anything and the msm will still claim it's what the people wanted.

Once he solidifies greater power he clamps down hard and increases the persecution of any who speak out.  And of course increases the draft into the military.

This smells more like prep for greater battles or looting of the country's wealth.

Petro. Bro, it's time for you to do one of two things...

You can either get another emergency loan from the IMF for more merc protection although I have this funny feeling that the rapidly dwindling numbers protecting your fat ass probably haven't been paid for some time and are getting kinda pissed...

I meant to ask you how John Brennan's "crops" are doing this year in Afghanistan?  If it's been a good enough growing season maybe he and the boyz in McLean can tied you over with a loan before the start of the New Year?!!!

If you can't come up with that emergency aid?  My advice is that you find yourself a really good plastic surgeon and pack quietly before you are completely surrounded by rebel forces in the next few months, or you might just be making a visit with "the gimp" to bring in the New Year!

Thanks for the link.  I'm always puzzled to read the realpolitik prognostications of academics that have nothing to do with reality.

Grandmaster =Putin

Rank amateurs =Obama, Rasmussen, Breedlove, Poroshenko, etc

now opens the door for poroshenko to accept putin's offer

If  Poroshenko doesn't "accept", Putin will rub his face in the wreckage of MH17.

If what Walker  (probably not a tenured professor, rather a student) says is true about the extent of the Russian Army in Donbas, Putin, angry about the Ukrainian attempt to raze Donetsk and Luhansk, will keep his army there, like the US army in Iraq and Afghanistan, until it turns into a pumpkin at midnight.

Clearly forces of NATO have not come rushing to the rescue of the Ukraine in Donbas (could NATO know what we have not yet been told?  Ukrainian jets shot down MH17 with cannon fire?)

That puts the ball back in the sanctions court and that hasn't worked out too well for the sanctioners, has it?

Russia’s extreme leverage over Ukraine is now – in all likelihood, its invasion option will have disappeared by the onset of winter (and possibly earlier).

I dislike ambiguous talk like this.  Is Walker saying that the cold weather of winter works against Russia or that something unforeseen by Putin will occur by December 21st?

And then he cites photos and videos and doesn't link them.

Putin chews up Walker and spits him out.

More Associate Professor Walker:

July 19, 2014  two days after the MH17 tragedy

It now appears highly likely that MH-17 was brought down by a separatist-controlled Buk that was launched from territory controlled by the separatists. As for the provenance of the Buk, it is possible that the separatists captured it from the Ukrainians, but there is no credible evidence of that, and I think it is more likely that they obtained the system from Russia.

If that turns out to be the case, my guess is that the sequence of events went roughly as follows. In the wake of the Ukrainian military successes in Slavyansk and elsewhere last week, the Kremlin ordered the Russian military and security organs to do whatever was necessary to keep the border open and prevent supply lines into Luhansk and Donetsk from being closed. To that end, the Russians began stepping up military activity along the border, including rocket fire from Russian territory (for which there is also pretty good video evidence) to prevent key border crossings from coming under Ukrainian control. They also decided to deny Ukraine control of the airspace over the conflict zone. As a result, they shot down an SU-25 close to the border with an air-to-air missile from one of their fighters on Wednesday.

Rather than abandoning efforts to keep their support for the separatists covert by openly violating Ukrainian airspace, however, they decided to supply them with more effective SAM systems, including first one or more Strela-10s and then one or more Buks. At least some of the people operating the system were likely former or current professional Russian soldiers with the technical expertise to operate the systems and who were recruited for the operation by Russian security agents and who coordinated their activities with Russian intelligence. Finally, I suspect that those operators, using their independent Buk-system radar, confused MH-17 for a AN-26, bringing down the commercial airliner and killing 298 civilians.

Really, Trader one what is the point of going to print two days after the tragedy with nothing but the West's WMD version of events.  Where is the mention of Russian radar which shows Ukrainian fighters or fighter tracking the doomed plane?  Where is the intelligence, as valid as any phony western intelligence, that the fuselage was riddled with cannon fire which can not be mistaken for shrapnel. Or that the plane was diverted off course by Kiev because of bad weather.

Walker doesn't fail to mention the purported conversation between the two separatists which would be inadmissible in any court in this country. Or the hacked up confession on the separatist wed site.

Does Walker seriously believe that the pro-Russian rebels are so stupid as make these acknowledgements by radio and internet.

Another academic ponderer who links to the CFR, the holy grail of academics.

So what exactly has Putin DONE? Crimea had a vote to join Russia and Russia accepted taking them. He's put troops on the border to protect Russians if Uke forces overwhelm Eastern cities, He's given refuge to 3/4 million Russians and UKES who have fled shelling and given humanitarian aid to besieged cities in the East.

This is the bad guy?

What has Russia been accused of?

Nothing that is proven despite the daily accusations of new incursions and atrocities that now have reached the level of ludicrous.

Russia is under no obligation whatever to stop Russians passing into the East to visit family or volunteer with the rebels.

Academics know which Govt. gives out the grants and drives the think tanks.

Now trader, you know as well as I that Poroshenko is totally out of the loup when it comes to accepting Putin's offer.  Putin's offer, if accepted, will be by the Pentagon and State Dept in Washington and be relayed to Poroshenko through Nuland.

Talk about the White Truck Charade. Really!

In so far as the fighting in Donbas is concerned, what we have here is Minature Golf with missiles and Willy Pete.  It is a microscopic version of Napoleon's pursuit of the Russian Army in 1812.  Instead of marching from Paris to Moscow, Poroshenko marched from Kiev to the Russian border, where apparently he his having his ass handed to him by the opposition.  (Serves him right for shooting down a passenger plane, even if he was told Putin had a window seat in first class).

When the motherfucks from the West say it's okay for Kosovo to quit Belgrade and it's okay for South Sudan to quit Khartoum, but if the Russian speaking section of Ukraine dares to think about leaving Kiev there will be all kinds of hell to pay.

Well, we've all seen how hard NATO came down on the separatists.  And we know who the sanctions really hurt by who's crying the loudest.

Sherman didn't say the war was hell, because it bore a slight resemblance to

Using a Twitter account might have been the only safe way Poroshenko can conduct government business now.  As it seems increasing likely that MH17 was shot down by elements of Ukraine's armed forces, the guilty party(ies) may try to rub Poroshenko out before he has a chance to have them arrested.

"...the results of the [MH-17] investigation will be published once completed only if a consensus agreement of all parties that have signed the agreement prevails."

"Any one of the signatories has the right to veto the publication of the results of the investigation without explanation."

So these four criminal conspirators [Ukraine, the Netherlands, Australia and Belgium] have already decided to hide the truth that MH-17 was shot down by Poroshenko's own air force.

Meaning that Russia will be alone in demanding full publication. I sincerely hope Russia will publish and be damned.

This is great news. It most likely means that some sort of an agreement between Russia, Ukraine and the EU is close. Let's just hope other, hmm, parties don't decide to spoil it like what happened to the agreement with Yanukovich.

Dream on.

Kiev has got a real problem, the Right Sector if he goes for peace he could find himself at the end of quite a different civil war.

Also Putin has a problem, the Seperatists may not take orders from him if the start to push the Ukrainian Army back. They seem to be on a roll, they only really need him for ammo and fuel now.

As to the EU they just want the sanctions lifted and they can do that themselves tomorrow if they didn't need to save face somehow.

There is a huge difference between definding a comparatively small area and conducting a huge offensive.

IMHO at present the seperatists are not numerous enough to mount such an offensive.

Whilst they seemingly chew up the junta's offensive they will grind them down to a point when they can no longer mount offensives.

A fourth stage of drafting is rumoured which will go down badly with the general population.

Replacement equipment will be/is being supplied from neighbouring countries to give the appearance the junta army is not loosing too much.

We didn't really think that that World Bank loan to Ukraine was only about money did we? All the US farm supply industry is lining up to get their share in the trough. Plus, genetically modified crops as well. When you are over a barrel financially you cannot keep the vultures away.

Finally, a little-known aspect of the crisis in Ukraine is receiving some international attention. On July 28, the California-based Oakland Institute released a report revealing that the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), under terms of their $17 billion loan to Ukraine, would open that country to genetically-modified (GM) crops and genetically-modified organisms (GMOs) in agriculture. The report is entitled “Walking on the West Side: the World Bank and the IMF in the Ukraine Conflict.” [1]
In late 2013, the then president of Ukraine, Viktor Yanukovych, rejected a European Union association agreement tied to the $17 billion IMF loan, whose terms are only now being revealed. Instead, Yanukovych chose a Russian aid package worth $15 billion plus a discount on Russian natural gas. His decision was a major factor in the ensuing deadly protests that led to his ouster from office in February 2014 and the ongoing crisis.
According to the Oakland Institute, “Whereas Ukraine does not allow the use of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in agriculture, Article 404 of the EU agreement, which relates to agriculture, includes a clause that has generally gone unnoticed: it indicates, among other things, that both parties will cooperate to extend the use of biotechnologies. There is no doubt that this provision meets the expectations of the agribusiness industry. As observed by Michael Cox, research director at the investment bank Piper Jaffray, ‘Ukraine and, to a wider extent, Eastern Europe, are among the most promising growth markets for farm-equipment giant Deere, as well as seed producers Monsanto and DuPont’.” [2]
Ukrainian law bars farmers from growing GM crops. Long considered “the bread basket of Europe,” Ukraine’s rich black soil is ideal for growing grains, and in 2012 Ukrainian farmers harvested more than 20 million tonnes of corn.
Monsanto’s Investment
In May 2013, Monsanto announced plans to invest $140 million in a non-GMO corn seed plant in Ukraine, with Monsanto Ukraine spokesman Vitally Fechuk confirming that ‘We will be working with conventional seeds only” because “in Ukraine only conventional seeds are allowed for production and importation.” [3]
But by November 2013, six large Ukrainian agriculture associations had prepared draft amendments to the law, pushing for “creating, testing, transportation and use of GMOs regarding the legalization of GM seeds.” [4] The president of the Ukrainian Grain Association, Volodymyr Klymenko, told a Nov. 5 press conference in Kiev that “We could mull over this issue for a long time, but we, jointly with the [agricultural] associations, have signed two letters to change the law on biosecurity, in which we proposed the legalization of the use of GM seeds, which had been tested in the United States for a long time, for our producers.” (Actually, GM seeds and GMOs have never undergone independent, long-term testing in the U.S.)
The agricultural associations’ draft amendments coincided with the terms of the EU association agreement and IMF/World Bank loan.
