How Putin Just Saved Europe, and Other Geopolitical Tales

Freaking Heck's picture

By: Chris Tell at: http://capitalistexploits.at/

Picture this scenario. A brother and sister squabbling with one another. Something's gone wrong, they're blaming each other, fighting, and generally at each other's throats. Along comes the boy from next door who pokes fun at one of them and starts pestering them. Brother and sister rapidly put aside their differences, join forces and deal with the boy from next door.

The saying, "The enemy of my enemy is my friend" has played itself out many times throughout  history and, while geo-political relationships may not be as close as siblings, the forming of alliances and the repercussions from having joint enemies can be profound.

During the second World War Stalin realized that he needed the Allies to defeat a Nazi invasion, and in turn the Allies realized that the Soviets were necessary for the war effort. In any other scenario the Allies would have been arch enemies of Stalin and vice versa.

During the Cold War a similar setup occurred with the Soviets and Chinese aiding North Korea during the Korean War, and then aiding the Viet Cong during the Vietnam War.

On a country specific basis many a dictator has been propped up and supported by Governments pretending to their citizens that they in fact abhor the acts of such people. A controlled media and messaging ensure that the vast majority of citizens don't think too much or dig too much. Government, after all, is largely in the business of marketing. Mobuto Sese Seko, Augusto Pinochet, Saddam Hussein, Pol Pot, and currently the Saudi Royal family. All strategic at some point in time.

I'm not picking on any of these for any particular reason other than that they're choices which everybody knows about, and the relationships are well documented. Government in all instances does this. Nothing unusual. As they say in Thailand, "Same same but different."

Well, this time it's same same but different, too. We're seeing similar alliances forming now. This time Europe and the US forming an alliance against Russia, and China together with Russia moving towards forming and solidifying existing economic alliances.

Consider that in just the last few months I've had the following snippets cross my news-feeds:

In Europe, Putin, the boy from next door, has distracted the Europeans from their political and economic woes, and the infighting which has been building between the Europeans has taken a backseat to more immediate problems. Taking a look at the news since Ukraine started making headlines shows me that distraction appears to be working. I'm not suggesting this was by design. I don't think that's the case. It is, however, convenient for EU policy makers who've completely screwed up the European marketplace and are looking for someone to blame. Putin is a Godsend.

Life for Europeans will get worse... much worse. Sanctions with Russia are already destroying European agriculture, but at least Eurocrats can blame the economic decline on external factors. Watch for it. You can bet on it. In the meantime, let's look at who hurts the most from the Russian ban on US and EU food imports.

Russian Sanctions Effect

Keep an eye on PKO, Bank Polski, Poland's largest lender. Earlier this year they raised $2.7 B in a bond issuance. Little did they know how lucky their timing was. No way would they be able to sell bonds at levels achieved in January of this year, now. The question is, will they survive as their loan book collapses?

While all this is taking place I have to wonder where and what other opportunities arise from this very large and accelerating power shift. An active move away from the dollar is underway and has been for some time. What is important now is that this is being accelerated by the public sector and not the private sector. Moves such as the BRICS setting up the financial infrastructure to transact away from the dollar is bold indeed.

Actions of this nature, or just the mere consideration of such actions, would have been previously met with threats of tariffs, curtailment of aid or even outright sanctions from the United States. That they are taking place now on a near daily basis shows just how fast the geopolitical landscape is changing. The economic decline evident in the Western, socialist world and the US in particular is evident to anyone not reading CNN. This coupled with Obama's refusal to curtail the NSA has accelerated both the desire and the fortitude of many countries around the world to proceed to change the status quo.

Talking with my private banker in Singapore I asked what bankers thought of all of the FATCA rules. Her response was, "It won't be too long." These absurd rules exist and have to be complied with while the dollar is the reserve currency, but when, not if, alternatives exist then simply choosing not to play in that particular sandpit any longer will be more favourable than the revenues currently being earned by complying. Right now banks make too much money to walk away from the existing financial setup, which is dictated by US banks, US clearing houses and US money.

This is changing. The amount of capital flooding into Singapore and Hong Kong is putting pressure on the banks here and pushing up already crazy real estate prices. There are other sectors we're interested in and taking advantage of. One of them is private equity, which is our particular niche. Capital flows are very important and we believe that the next big M&A activity will be in Southeast Asia and we are moving aggressively to take advantage of this.

In the meantime, I'm curious what opportunities readers think are opening up. Drop a comment below and let me know.

I notice a large majority on here are pro Putin. What if you were in Russia and posted something critical of Putin or started telling friends in public that you did not like putin's policies. What do you think might happen to you ? Now having said that and made my point, i dislike barry and his ilk, and tell  my friends all the time how i feel. Are you muppets in Europe free to do this, i think not. Hell it's amost impossible to leave a comment at the end of any articles in newspapers online, they don't let you comment. Europe your already in fascism. You let the moabs overun you and take your culture from you and then are gutless about stopping it, too afraid it will offend someone. Sure , the US is about to be destroyed from within, but spineless Europe is invaded by muslems and won't fight back.It remains to be seen if England will go down the same path as Europe. UKIP is their only hope to prevent this.

Perhaps a better story would be the sister and the boy next door were getting along like a house on fire. Along comes the brother, slightly jealous of this new relationship, he wanted to play with the boy next door's toys, so he creates discord between them and pretends he is acting in the best interests of his sister.

Lets hope there is a happy ending  and the couple reconcile get married and live happily ever after. The brother recognises his bad behaviour and gets invited to the wedding.

This is a glib article. Stalin was an ally of Hitler until invaded in July 1941, and invasion delayed by Germany having to rescue the Italian Occupation of Greece. Churchill allied with Stalin before the US even entered the war ! It was simply to stop Stalin cutting a separate deal which would have left Britain high and dry......it was after all the USSR that did the heavy lifting.

The whole business of countries around the globe abandoning the dollar as the reserve currency has been up until lately one of "you first, no, you go first" with each country scared to dealth of the downside if things go badly. Now that we have several players who have made the commitment to turn their backs on the dollar, and seeing that they actually survived and perhaps even are more prosperous as a result, there will be many more countries willing to join the party. With this in mind I see it taking hold more and more rapidly to the point where countries will be tripping over themselves to join the "leave the dollar behind" party. This will all unfold at breakneck speed in the very near future.

The big worry as I see it is that TPTB in the US obviously will not take this lying down and will resort to the one thing that they have historically done and that is war. It has been clear to me that the repeated attempts at stirring up the shit worldwide lately has been with this single purpose in mind. Unfortunately, for TPTB, they have met with significant resistance by the other players in the game. Because of this resistance we will most certainly have another engineered 911 type of event but this time much, much worse. Bad enough to guarantee that fires of war not only are lit but will burn brightly all across the globe. Sure as the sun shines, this is how it will play out.

You can't underestimate the effect FATCA has had, along with the breach by the NSA of SWIFT. FATCA is a ridiculous set of extra-jurisdictional overreach, and NSA has reached into bank accounts and removed funds, pre-crime and certainly pre-charge and pre-trial. Did we really think the banks of the world did not take notice?

CEO of the biggest bank in Australia flew to DC specifically to ask that FATCA rules be changed as it would cost their bank hundreds of millions to change systems and comply. So that what? So America can fail at stopping ANY terrorists through their spy and money laundering channels?

The answer instead will be to ask any American clients to leave, like Switzerland did. Not a big jump from there to another answer to dollar dominance.

What did China do with Walmart USD they sent it back by buying bonds. They bought oil and iron with it. They could not convert it into Yuan or inflation would drown them.

putin is naturally alligned with the euro-skeptics. they are anti-american and have the fascist underlying tactics to achieve power.

the communist leftists in europe are all too weak , ideologically, to undo the european union.

the EU is the only POLITICAL thing holding germany back from beginning to push american occupation troops out of the country.

if the EU breaks apart, russia's plans for flipping germany suddenly become an afterthought to pull off.

once germany enters the new warsaw pact, requiring the expulsion of american occupying forces0-0-----the stage is set for war in europe.

True.

But strangely, he is also more aligned with those of a "euro-first" bent. Perhaps like JC Juncker.

Who Putin is naturally against are Atlanticists. UK/ Poland/ Barroso/ Fogh of War, and it would appear Merkel.

Does the installation of JC Juncker & Jens Stoltenberg change the situation on the ground in Europe? These 2 would appear more pro-Europe than pro-Atlanticist than the 2 outgoing folks I mentioned.

It seems more likely a deal could be done with Juncker/ Stoltenberg than with Fogh of War/ Barroso.

How can we on the one hand accept the strong possibility of a deliberate attempt to destroy America from within, whilst being blind to the possibility that those same forces are colluding with the supposed 'enemy' - the very factions that are moving to facilitate the dollar's demise from without?

Understandably, anyone deeply disappointed with the current US administration might be moved to hold Putin in high regard as the peoples' anti-hero.  It is demonstrably true, however, that both sides dance to the tune of the same paymasters.  Paymasters, lest we forget, who operate beyond the reach of national laws and with little interest in national politics lest it serve their own impersonal agenda.

We might read the first part of this article, blithe statements regarding international relationships of the 20th C, with a wry suspicion that there was much more going on than this official narrative now accepted as our history.  The Bolshevik revolution was funded by Wall St.  The German National Socialists were funded by Wall St.  Why should things be so different now?

I'm concerned that we are once again being blinded by factions, personalities, and official narrative, where the truth of the matter may be very different indeed.

We can accept the fake war against terror, why not the fake war against the dollar?

Anthony Sutton "Americas secret establishment: An introduction to the Order of Skull & Bones".

He himself considered this Book his "Opus Dei", because after researching Skull & Bones finally all ends met. I´m reading this book and can´t stop reading it, it´s more thrilling than any normal Thriller could be.

So what "Medium Giraffe" says, is Suttons theory: "They" finance and manage both sides to inflict crisis and clashes to be able to promote change in society. (Remember Obummers "Change"?)

They financed and created Communism and also the Nazis

Anthony Sutton: "Wallstrett and the Bolshevik Revolution" and "Wallstreet and the Rise of Hitler"

Putin is not a hero, or an "anti-hero", and it is a mistake to hold him in such regard.

However, he could well be the "agent of change" that causes the overturning of the current system.

Somebody has to play that role - and maybe it's him.

As to how manipulated his actions are, who can really know?

Totally agree, I think there are good reasons to want to be very careful of jumping head first into that particular dichotomy.  Recent comments of his strike me as having globalist overtones (re. the IMF):

Since we are treated to new revelations on the depth of manipulation on all fronts on an almost daily basis, I think it's safer to assume that we are on our own until proven otherwise.

Putin's done a pretty good job putting Russia back together But you can't build an Empire on selling raw materials.

Russia needs to convince her former federation States that it is in their economic and security interests to align with her. This is a slower process than rolling through with tanks.

The banksters can't strongarm Putin internally. Anyone who tried that would be in jail tommorrow or feeding muskrats out on the tundra.

That is what the US is for.

I see the situation in Ukraine may be reaching a turning point as it becomes clear Putin holds all the cards.  It seems both Russia and many of the separatist in Eastern Ukraine would support federalization. Surely, no reason exist for Kiev to be opposed other than a loss of power. A more federalized government is also the most plausible way of keeping Ukraine intact.

Support for sanctions is mixed in Europe as some countries fear Russia and have an ax to grind with Putin while others wish to move forward. Saber rattling has only lead to death and destruction.  As I see it little good will come from further bloodshed and it is time for the West to stop sending money to Kiev so they can ramp up the violence and continue the civil war. More on the progress being made in the article below.

No single country needs to absord that money. In fact the money that is being absordbed is being "printed" to cover the US government's spending and Q'Easing it is not from a US balance of trade surplus - that ended some time ago.

Due to reserve currency status those countries running a trade surplus with the US are receiving USD backed by the military rather than backed by production of useful goods the world wants.
