Here's my speculative theory of everything political, in a nutshell. It explains all of the varied threats that just seem to keep coming, police militarization etc., but unfortunately assumes that the elite would prefer a population of productive people to a population of dependents. So it likely isn't true.
Something big and beyond the control of the elite is coming, and they know it's coming. Probably something earth-related, as opposed to an economic oollapse. Between now and then, they're going to milk the system for what they can get, but also thin the herd and simultaneously encourage intelligent people to get ready and get hard. Then, when the true shit comes down, there's a smaller, hardier population that might not cannibalize itself entirely in the aftermath.
My theory is
They have lost global domination with Cremia going back to Russia.
They bet the farm on this so they are cornered animals now.
Proxy wars going and then the big fireworks, nukes.
Russia survives and takes Istanbul, at this point Russian fleet can go into the Mediterranean and that breaks the back of NATO.

I haven't seen it, but I tend to think ISIS still enjoys Saudi/CIA and perhaps Turkish and Israeli support... plenty of beheadings of Syrians happened for a couple years and no one in the US seemed to care... not sure why they'd need a fake one for shock and awe.
