Ukraine Releases Video Of Captured Russian Troops; They "Entered Accidentally" Russia Claims As Putin-Poroshenko Meeting Begins

Tyler Durden's picture

Moments ago, Russian president Vladimir Putin arrived in Minsk, Belarus where upon the initiative of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko a summit between the Customs Union (Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan) and Ukraine will be held on Tuesday. As Interfax adds, the meeting will also be attended by three European commissioners - EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton, Trade Commissioner Karel De Gucht and European Commission Vice President, Energy Commissioner Gunther Oettinger.

Amusingly, Putin's arrival did not proceed without incident...

This will be second meeting in the past three months between Putin and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko organized with the mediation of a president a third country. However, official confirmation that a separate meeting between Putin and Poroshenko will take place does not yet exist.

As noted earlier, the main reason for the recent ramp in futures is because someone activated the de-escalation algo sending futs promptly from overnight lows to highs, on hopes there will be some resolution of Ukraine's proxy civil war, and maybe a detente between Russia and Europe, where the latter is now on the verge of a triple-dip recession due to "costs" against Russia.

And yet, a potential complication may arise following the release of a video just hours before the meeting which allegedly shows Russian soldiers who were captured on Ukraine territory on Tuesday, "sharply escalating a dispute over Moscow's alleged backing for separatist rebels in the east of the former Soviet republic" according to Reuters. Alas, that's not what the de-escalation algo thinks which is currenly buying up everything in sight, now that Ukraine has cried invading wolf one too many times.

As Reuters reports, a Moscow military source told Russian news agencies that a group of soldiers had surrendered to Ukrainian forces after crossing the border by accident. Needless to say, Ukraine didn't buy it: "This wasn't a mistake, but a special mission they were carrying out," military spokesman Andriy Lysenko said in a televised briefing.

He also said separatists were attacking the southeastern border town of Novoazovsk "at this very minute" and Ukrainian forces had destroyed 12 armoured infantry vehicles in the area.

Reuters further notes that Russia has always denied assertions by Ukraine, backed by the United States and the European Union, that it has been sending arms and troops across the border to support the pro-Moscow separatists. "Tuesday's video provided the strongest evidence yet to back up Kiev's claims of direct Russian military involvement, which Moscow has always disputed. It came a day after Ukraine's state security service said it had detained 10 Russian paratroopers who had crossed the border in a column of several dozen armed infantry vehicles."

In footage posted on the official Facebook page of the Ukrainian government's "anti-terrorist operation", the men were shown dressed in camouflage fatigues. One of them, who identified himself as Ivan Milchakov, listed his personal details, including the name of his paratroop regiment, which he said was based in the Russian town of Kostroma.

"I did not see where we crossed the border. They just told us we were going on a 70 km (45-mile) march over three days," he said. "Everything is different here, not like they show it on television. We've come as cannon fodder," he said in the video. Another man in the footage, who gave his name as Sergeant Andrei Generalov, said: "Stop sending in our boys. Why? This is not our war."

Russian news agencies quoted a defence ministry source as confirming that Russian servicemen had crossed into Ukraine but saying they did so inadvertently.

"The soldiers really did participate in a patrol of a section of the Russian-Ukrainian border, crossed it by accident on an unmarked section, and as far as we understand showed no resistance to the armed forces of Ukraine when they were detained," the source said.

So, accidental invasion (into what is technically the Donetsk Republic) then? Judging by the market's reaction it is merely confirmation of more pent-up de-invasions.

I agree with you in that aspect, probabbly there's more hypocrisy in the US.

At first I thought that was a good thing, because in other countries people accept this, and in the US, abuses of power and corruption are not widely accepted, so when they became evident, the US people would rebel themselves, THAT'S why I think they are worse, because people there wouldn't rebel against the government.

But... thinking twice... I don't know what's worse...

hahahahaha well... in fact as an european I do believe more in my government than in the other ones... but certainly I don't believe in any... it's just that I don't like when people defend one because they think it's a good one... those are the worst, as people trust blindly in them...

The last thing we need is a world full of American style "democracy". The last thing we need, is a world full of American style free-dumb. American style morality. Stop with the "democracy" crap. America was never intended to be a "democracy" and for good reason. Are you so blind that you can not see what America's "democracy" nation building has done these past 14 years in the world? Why... just look at what it has done to Ukraine. The Middle East. Persia. North Africa.

Russia is not sending its military forces around the globe bombing the shit out of people in the name of democracy. What it doesn't want, is NATO missiles saturating its borders. It also wants that free trade that America/EU keeps harping on about.

Anita, -- I know little of the Chinese. I see Russia as Fort White Man. A fort that is resisting the decay that has fouled my US.

A nation's riches are in it's people, it's mines and factories, and it's agriculture. We in the US have flunked-out in the people segment. From Washington DC all the way to street level.

Yeah, and that's sad. And that should change as soon as possible. I agree with you in that aspect. And I don't say I think Russia should not defend herself. I just say that some people here think Putin is the next savior, and I think he is not precisely that.

Anita I hope you are wrong about Putin, I watch the way the man acts and what he does and I like what I see. Nobody can know for sure. Right now Putin is the light of the free world. May God keep his heart humble and his hand strong.

People here don't seem to be voting based on whether or not they like China, Russia or the US.  They're voting based on what they believe is actually happening in the situation.  Even if Russia has terrible civil policies, I'm not going to support what I see to be a lie just to demonize them.

Okay, so you admit the domestic situation in Russia is shit... that's good, even astute around here.

But failing to see that Russia isn't really being "demonized" but raising some form of nationalism/etnicism to distract their people into supporting what are truly horrible foreign policy (Transdniester, Georgia, basically a policy of "breaking shit" invasion, and occupation by criminal regimes)  from the shit reality that exists domestically is the problem.

Without this TV war, Russia would be splintering apart, from Siberia to Chechnya to Karelia... It may be surprising, but almost half the citizens of Kaliningrad hold foreign passports, and send their kids to school in the EU.

Thisngs will soon shit the bed for Russia, and China is waiting until Russia can't do shit to stop them, although they might get a  deal similar to that concerning Alaska.

Do you believe that when the truth comes out in a non western non kangaroo court about the documented war crimes Poroshenko the Pig has visited on Ukrainian civilians with the full knowledge and complicity of US officials and Western zionist media that any reasonably rational individual is going to be too concerned about Putins involvement in defending these civilians by strengthening their militia and sending humanitarian aid? There have been animal rulers in this world who needed to be stopped and Poroshenko is one of them; the US/NATO/Israeli support of these crimes is indefensible to say the least.

You say "No, the US doesn't respect that, but Russia and China do neither, and, what's more, they are worse than America in that aspect." I say when I was young in the 70's and 80's I staunchly defended America and her principles. Now those principles are naked hypocrisy and while what you say about China and Russia might be true, at this time nothing, except maybe Israel is more dangerous to the world than America, the dying and hypocritical empire. Putin is needed to bring moderation to America's death throes and if Russia oversteps her bounds then she will be dealt with when the time is right. In the meantime, it's Russia all the way, as for Americans they don't have to look too far to find their real enemies, the CONgress, White House, Supreme Courts, many powerful institutions, not least of all the FED, and the invading tribal masters who control them. God help America and her sleeping citizens, she is infested with a dangerous disease.

Exactly why they were captured alive.

There have been plenty of well-trained and better-than-well armed "bad dudes" waiting for the right prey to pounce on all over Ukraine, and for many months... many people knew about what was going on well before Christmas.

It's a huge "scavenger hunt" for the odd Russian tech, too...

There was even Japanese intelligence "researching" all over the place up until New years'.

It wiill be interesting to see how the US media handles this vs the 438 Ukranian servicemen who fled to Russia (unarmed) and were fed and then released a couple days later.

US reporters refused to meet with the Ukrainian military in the Russian Federation

06.08.2014 - 08:20

Journalists largest U.S. media refused the proposal of the Ministry of Defense and Ministry of foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation to visit Rostov region and to meet requested asylum in Russia, the Ukrainian military. This was stated by the Deputy Director of the Department of information and press of the Russian foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.

In the night of August 4, 438 servicemen of Ukraine appealed to the representatives of the border service of the FSB of Russia with a request to provide them shelter. They met in the Rostov region and placed in a camp for refugees.

According to the representative of the foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova, the Board of the Ministry of defence that there was going, could bring about 30-40 journalists, reports Russian.rt.com. According to her, realizing how important it is for journalists, especially foreign ones, to meet with representatives of the armed forces of Ukraine, the foreign Ministry asked to invite a group of foreign correspondents in the Rostov region.

"Within an hour got people under 40... Except Bloomberg, none of the journalist in American media," Zakharov wrote in his blog on the website of "Echo of Moscow".

According to her, the American journalists go, citing "technical reasons". Among the media, which, according to Zakharova, refused to go in the Rostov region: CNN, The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Christian Science Monitor. The correspondent of Reuters, said she signed up, went to the airport, but halfway changed his mind and did not fly writes Russian.rt.com.

So true.

If you're early, you're anxious.

If you're punctual, you're compulsive.

If you're late, you're hostile.

I don't think Vlad is hostile at all.  He must have been stuck in that lousy Minskian traffic.
