"A Man Of Many Perversions" – Federal Cybersecurity Head Convicted Of Child Porn Charges

Submitted by Mike Krieger of Liberty Blitzkrieg blog,

The following story is a warning as to why centralized power is so dangerous. It doesn’t matter whether the power is political or corporate, overly centralized power in all forms must be resisted whenever it appears. The worst of all worlds is when centralized political and corporate power unite in an unholy alliance, which is what has happened to America in recent decades. When this occurs, the combined forces of oligarchy simply begin to rapaciously feast on the citizenry with zero accountability. This is a fair description of the United States in 2014.

The primary problem with centralized power is that sociopaths (for obvious reasons) gravitate toward, and greatly covet, positions of power. Once entrenched in such positions, they are able to act upon their perversions with general immunity, and if they are caught, are often left in positions of power by others who at that point “own them” via blackmail. This of course is nothing new, it is how the game of power, politics and economics has been played since the beginning of time. It is also why decentralization of power is the natural evolution we as a species must embrace in order to build a better world.

Enter Timothy DeFoggi, the one-time cybersecurity director of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, who received several awards for his government “service” over the years. The self-proclaimed man of “many perversions,” frequented a child porn site called PedoBook where he “exchanged private messages with other members expressing interest in raping, beating and murdering infants and toddlers.”

More from Wired:

As the acting cybersecurity chief of a federal agency, Timothy DeFoggi should have been well versed in the digital footprints users leave behind online when they visit web sites and download images.

But DeFoggi—convicted today in Nebraska on three child porn charges including conspiracy to solicit and distribute child porn—must have believed his use of the Tor anonymizing network shielded him from federal investigators.

But DeFoggi’s conviction is perhaps more surprising than others owing to the fact that he worked at one time as the acting cybersecurity director of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. DeFoggi worked for the department from 2008 until January this year. A department official told Business Insider that DeFoggi worked in the office of the assistant secretary for administration as lead IT specialist but a government budget document for the department from this year(.pdf) identifies a Tim DeFoggi as head of OS IT security operations, reporting to the department’s chief information security officer.

Although anyone could use the sites, registered users like DeFoggi—who was known online under the user names “fuckchrist” and “PTasseater”—could set up profile pages with an avatar, often child porn images, and personal information and upload files. The site archived more than 100 videos and more than 17,000 child porn and child erotica images, many of them depicting infants and toddlers being sexually abused by adults.

DeFoggi became part of that sting after becoming a registered member of PedoBook in March 2012 where he remained active until December that year when the FBI shuttered it. During this time DeFoggi, who described himself as “having many perversions,” solicited child porn images from other members, viewed images and exchanged private messages with other members expressing interest in raping, beating and murdering infants and toddlers.

DeFoggi received many commendations during his government career, according to an exhibit list created by the government for his trial. The list includes several certificates of award from the U.S. Treasury, a certificate of appreciation from the State Department for his work on a Hurricane Katrina task force, several documents related to computer courses he attended and certifications he received.

I have no idea what you said.

But all of my fantasy pictures are of hangin' politicians, guillotined bankers, and President Ebola lying in state.

Nothing inciminating here.

i'm of the clinton/bush/obama are horrible people and presidents persuasion, but since he is currently in power find the following somehow mildly satisfying:

What you describe makes good sense, although it's a bit of work, and requires some technical sophistication.

Do be careful with TrueCrypt, though, as its status right now is unclear.  I'm not sure what I would trust in its place, but if you're on Linux then dm-crypt might be worth a look.

something very similar to this very thing was a sub-plot on the tv show, 'utopia'.

I'll give you another story.

British police find 1.400 rape cases of children in some unknown village.  Maybe there where rapes - maybe only a few, maybe not.

Cam-MORON takes this as the perfect case to bring in more "security" + monitoring and also gets to beat and kick some brown people out of the country.

Or maybe I am getting paranoid. Who knows.

Remember what Hunter S. Thompson said, in essence - Whatever you hear coming out of Washington is never the real story.

He was the only journalist out there questioning 9-11.

Died of 'natural causes' not long after…

They have us so paranoid we have no idea who to believe anymore. I really hate that feeling.

I have three kids, and my gut reaction is for this guy to have his balls cut off. But after considering everything we've learned recently with regard to the NSA, I'm forced to think he may have done something that didn't please his superiors in government. Who the fuck knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men?

(The Shadow knows...)

No idea who to believe. They're also attacking Tor's reputation with this story.

Tor must be used properly for full anonimity. It is not anonymous out of the box, but with the proper procedures it is near impossible to trace.

"Almost everyone involved in developing Tor was (or is) funded by the US government"

“The United States government can’t simply run an anonymity system for everybody and then use it themselves only. Because then every time a connection came from it people would say, “Oh, it’s another CIA agent.” If those are the only people using the network.”

Maybe... or not. Could be he's a sick fuck who needs to be curb-stomped, but then, I hear there's a lot of good cops in prison-- you know, the ones who forgot to hide the kilo of coke that was found in the wheelwell of their squad car.

small positive thing is, as they all hunger for power and as they get higher, natural thing for them is to surround themselves and hire not competent people as they could topple them, but loayal people first, so their ability to act is quite crippled, as primary goal of their "soldiers" is not to act, not to "fight" but suck up

Bingo Hammer's picture

Firstly proven pedophiles should be strung up or incarcerated for life, as there is NO known cure for their sickness.

Secondly the NSA spying/blackmail creation machine has really been put to good use in Europe in recent month, how else can you explain their total insanity of severly damaging their economies by falling into lockstep with US directed sanctions against Russia; indeed, a miss thrown boomerang can really deliver a bitch of an injury if you're not careful.

Further Merkel knew full well what the outcomes to German industry and the economy would be....but she had to persist with sanctions; an own goal if ever we've seen one.

PT's picture

Pedos should be shot and cremated.  The real problem is that then whenever someone wants to get rid of someone else, they just get them branded a pedo.  No messy loose ends to tie up.
Another problem is that I no longer see how anyone can be held accountable for what is on their hard drive.  99.99% of the population cannot tell what their computer updates are really doing, and 99.99% of the population can't even prove what is on their hard drives straight from the manufacturer  (There should be a lot of zeros but most people can't actually prove that).

While it should be easy to convict the makers of pedo porn, I'm very suspicious of convictions of viewers of pedo porn.  For those with the skills, it is way too easy to plant evidence.  For every several convictions of viewers, we should start seeing a few convictions of the makers of pedo porn, shouldn't we???  Sure it might be harder and require some real police work, but they got the guy from Silk Road didn't they?  If they don't convict any porn producers, then why not?

I actually expect the war on child porn to take over from where the war on drugs left off.  People aren't buying the war on drugs anymore so what's their next move?  Who's gonna say no to a war on CP?  (That will strangely result in many convictions of well off "viewers" whose many assets will be "confiscated" because "they don't deserve their ill-gotten gains" but few or no convictions of producers ...

It will be the new Orwellian 15 minutes of hate.

potato's picture

This has nothing to do with kids because even computer-generated CP is illegal.

This is just another power grab, like the drug war.

Lux Fiat's picture

Yes, I remember reading this when it came out.  Was half expecting to see some story trying to link Snowden to child porn as most people have such a visceral reaction to the topic.  http://oathkeepers.org/oath/2013/08/03/warning-someone-is-trying-to-set-up-liberty-activists-using-child-porn/?cp=2

For those wary of links, the main points...

There have been a string of anonymous attacks on liberty activists, all attempting to trick people into opening email attachments containing child-porn.   We know of at least four such attempts within the past few weeks.

The first was when someone emailed Luke Rudkowski, Founder of We Are Change and tried to trick him into opening attached jpeg files containing child porn.   Luke was able to use the “view” function of his email to see that the images were child porn and he did not open them.

Then, someone using a tormail account tried to do the same thing to Dan Johnson, Founder of People Against the NDAA (PANDA).   Whoever emailed Dan Johnson pretended to be me, Stewart Rhodes, but using a Tormail account.    Fortunately, Dan knew that I don’t use Tormail, and therefore he did not open the attachments.   Instead, he had a computer security expert examine the files, and that expert determined that they contained child porn.   You can read more about that attack, and watch a video we made about it, here.

Well, a few days later it happened again, to two other liberty activists we know.   They have chosen, for the time being, to not go public about it, in the hopes that the FBI will have a better chance of catching the perp.  All of us have reported these incidents to the FBI, through attorney Sue Basko.

FreedomGuy's picture

The problem is just the accusation much less any evidence whatsoever is so powerful and explosive that it permanently damages or destroys the accused.

Bingo Hammer's picture

You're probably right.......but I feel the true and greater humanity that still exists on this planet needs to retain its "higher humanity" rather than keep ourselves hooked into and onto a perpetual karmic cycle

Canoe Driver's picture

But it wouldn't matter as long as the accuser was a moron like "Belly Brain," who thinks we should just kill 'em all. I'm in favor of the summary execution of retards like "Belly Brain."

hairInTheSoup's picture

absolutely, it is the typical kind of accusation they create to discredit potential whistle blower / dissident (& the way the sheeps dive right into it like the guy you replied to is also very typical).

disinformation at his best with odds being something sinister is coming

Ballin D you have a point. This story just sounds too bizarre to be true.

AlaricBalth's picture

Boston Globe - July 2010: "Federal investigators have identified several dozen Pentagon officials and contractors with high-level security clearances who allegedly purchased and downloaded child pornography, including an undisclosed number who used their government computers to obtain the illegal material, according to investigative reports.

The investigations have included employees of the National Security Agency, the National Reconnaissance Office, and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency — which deal with some of the most sensitive work in intelligence and defense — among other organizations within the Defense Department."

Soon after, the investigation was mysteriously dropped as the estimated number of pedophile offenders within the government reached into the thousands. Allegedly, as the onion was peeled and informants were looking to cut deals, the familiar names of some of the highest ranking government officials and elected representatives kept popping up. Some of the alleged perps were congressmen who could influence the Pentagon budget, and the investigation was quietly quashed.

  • Really in this day and age?  Nobody can be that stupid.
  • How many people is the Obama regime purging while using this as an excuse?

"Nobody can be that stupid."

SR. I believe they can be that stupid, or believe they are untouchable. It is said a fish rots from the head. With that in mind, did you happen to see POTUS today? Without his teleprompter he made quite a few stupid comments. He is clearly not the sharpest tool in the shed. His lack of leadership and a moral compass has infected the government like a virus. The patient was already ill when he arrived, however the pathogen he has spread may prove terminal.

Hey even my girlfriend uses this shit on me these days.....its now called "the Hitlary Rebuttal"....it's so good that next time I'm stopped by a cop or in front of a magistrate I'll just say "At this point, what difference does it make?" that I was speeding, robbing, didn't pay my taxes etc etc etc

I like it!  And I am looking forward to hearing just how that works out for you.

I was going to try the Lois Lerner defense, too but then I realized it only works for people in government. All others are guilty and responsible until proven otherwise.

hairInTheSoup's picture

you're mistaken, this story smells of big time propaganda with 2 objectives :

* make believe the people the government is a good tree and doing his job removing the bad apples

* get rid of potential whistle blower they don't trust as something nasty is coming

The death penalty is a punishment that cannot be undone. the criminal system must be 100% accurate for it to be moral. Additionally, it is sadistic unless it is broadcast to the public as a deterrent.

Usually, executions are censored and the public doesn't see them.

StandardDeviant's picture

Exactly.  In Canada, a number of well-publicized cases of wrongful convictions, some for offenses which might well have led to the death penalty, pretty much put an end to the debate over capital punishment.

Squiddly Diddly's picture

I down voted you potatoe (graduate of Dan Quayle Elementary) because only God is 100% accurate/moral and while the death penalty cannot be undone, it is not the final verdict.  The purpose of the death penalty is that when God's image in man is violated, His justice demands retribution.  I agree executions should be public but their current lack of deterrent value does not make them sadistic but merely less effective. The death penalty is moral, not 100% accurate, and prevents more evil than it permits.
