I was in Washington DC and one of these police was walking around at the train station with a bullet-proof vest and a machine-gun. He did not look to be as smart as an average teenager, just mean, nasty, and looking for a fight. The typical school-yard bully type. He gave the impression that if you spit coffee on you and jumped up suddenly, he would shoot first and ask questions later. There was nothing going on there that day. Just this one power-crazed guy. I have been in countries like that. It is never a safe feeling.

Ok What I have to share is an important piece of the militarization of the Police in the USSA.
Last month I flew to Roswell, NM on business, the flight both in and out was half full of serious no-neck 5.11 wearing SWAT door kickers from all over the country.
Turns out the Federal Law enforcement Training Center located 45 minutes from Roswell in Artesia NM is recruiting FREE training for all local police depts. nationwide. Door kickers nationwide are going there to learn all the Standard Operating Procedures. (SOPs)
so when we wonder why, all across the country in the past few years the SOP is to shoot the family dog FIRST, no questions asked. These guys are all just reacting to their training, and the training is becoming nationalized.
Two of the "trainers" were waiting for the flight w/ me out of DFW and discussing how to recruit the Indian Reservation Police, and how the guy they had placed in Kalifornia we just not picking the slack to get enough departments on board fast enough.
I was sporting a fresh crew cut, and am "sort of not too out of shape yet", so i guess they thought I was "one of them" and talked shop.
