Recovery? 3 "Uncomfortable Truth" Charts

Tyler Durden's picture

Presented with little comment aside to suggest one scratch beneath the thinning veneer of record nominal stock prices every once in a while to take the temperature of the ugly reality that no one is talking about...

1) Stocks are at record highs because global growth is 'improving'...

FACT: There is a record divergence between the 'market' and plunging growth expectations

*  *  *

2) Stocks are at record highs because employment is 'improving'...

FACT: There is a record divergence between the 'market' and the employed population in America.

*  *  *

3) Stocks are at record highs because animal spirits are 'improving'..

FACT: There is a record divergence between the exuberant 'rich' and crushed 'middle class'

*  *  *

Bonus Chart:

Stocks are at record highs because... of The Fed!

And stocks have not been this far ahead of the Fed Balance Sheet since May 2013's Taper Tantrum correction began...

S&P Volume has been wafer thin recently. To keep the Ponzi going The Fed must get money out of Treasuries and into equities. The market also needs more free collateral provided by Treasuries. Fedheads have been spinning this one to death but, to date, the jawboning hasn't worked. To achieve this goal, therefore, the Fed has two choices. Either force Treasuries into a down trend by allowing rates to rise OR more QE. I somehow suspect the latter............

I actually have a chart of the balance sheet as if it were a stock and the sto and Macd are seriously breaking down....it's weekly so it's slow to trigger a good sell signal.

Just FYI

Bought a pot roast recently at Costco and it was forty bucks. Forty years ago my mother fed the entire family on thirty bucks a week. Home cooking, good stuff. Steak once a week. Lots of fresh fruit.

All I can say to that is "holy crap" and I hope it's not an apt description of your pot roast.  At least not for that money.

But this time it's different.

And considering every major central bank in the world is engaged in unprecedented monetary interventions it IS different this time. But it won't change the outcome, just the timing and magnitude.

It IS different this time Cog.  We are concurrently on the vertical parts of the poopulation and technology charts.  Some people argue that these will round off to a plateau.  I think they are full of yesterday's comestibles.  Khee,,,  ;-)

It's going to look like the right hand side of an asymptote.

Yep....bigger and more intertwined. For example, the Ukraine could really damage the German economy causing a capital problem for DB which has out $75 trillion in derivatives which ties in every large bank, especially JPM.

I want to see a chart with the price per pound of 85% lean hamburger vs. income.  Went to the store today - $5.29.  WTF?  Ribeye is up to $9.98/lb, at Sam's Club!  Don't want to know what it costs at a grocery store.  Shit, .gov is going to have to come up with something even crazier than chained CPI to spin these prices.  Confidence, bitchez!

OK, this is going to seem like a Spam post but it ain't. I don't give two shits if you use it or not but I've been using this one company who delivers out of trucks in parking lots. The problem is that they are bulk as in, 40# boxes of boneless, skinless chicken breasts, 20# boxes of wings or 4 10# tubes of 90% ground beef. They also only run these gigs 4 or 5 times a year for a particular area.

They are legit and as prices of beef, chicken and proteins keep going up, you may want tot consider them. I especially like and look forward to the bacon sale. My last bacon sale was the first of 2013 at around $3-3.50 a pound. the stores were over a buck more for 14-16 slices per #. I really cannot remember the price and it could have been lower however and can't find the email for the sale amongst all the other crap I get on that email.. I wish they would have another as I am running low as I only bought 80#

Anyway, they currently are tunning a boneless skinless chicken breast sale at $1.89 per # in 40# boxes. This is fresh and not previously frozen. Fuck this sounds like an ad for these fuckers but I have no affiliation with them other than buying thier stuff. I've been dealing with them for a couple of years and have bought Bacon, link sausage (which I have had in the freezer for the last year and will probably throw out as I find I hate link sausage) Boneless chicken breasts and 97/3 hamburger.

Been happy with all of it but can't seem to seal package (I'm lazy as fuck) all of it and will end up trashing most, except the bacon, when it is over 2 years old. I had all these plans of canning this stuff but between work and life, I ain't had time. The message here is, be willing to get off yer ass and deal with vacuum sealing this shit or don't do it.

Anyway, they are currently running a $1.89 boneless, skinless chicken breast ( which I ended up canning 30# and throwing out 50# due to being over 2 years old) for $1.89 per #. Was in the Safe-way food store yesterday and Foster farms same same is going for $2.99 per #, not on sale. Mind you this is fresh and not yet frozen so do with this as you want.

https://www.zayconfoods.com/

I don't get shit for posting this and have no affiliation with these guys other than using them previously to my great satisfaction.

This ain't Spam, I don't care if you use em or not, just a heads up as protein prices escalate and if you ain't prepping for the future shitstorm that is coming on so many fronts, you're an idiot.

didn't mean for this to be so long but I'm on my third single malt and Damn, they are good...

Edit: Oh Yea, I forgot to add this great idea to lowering your food costs. Go to a Restaurant Supply store and buy your stuff in bulk.

I use this joint, which may or may not be available in your area but they/similar outlets are in every large town by different names/businesses.

https://www.smartfoodservice.com/

I recently bought two 22# standing rib roasts, bone out, for $5.99 per pound about Feb 2014 . They are Choice cut, whichis what every grocery store in the nation is selling now for almost $13 per pound, were last month selling for 6.49 per pound on sale. Cut my own rib-eyes and vacuum sealed them for almost half of what the grocer would charge me. Check out their prices. This week Boneless Beef Rib Eye Roasts are going for $6.88 per # @ 16 Lb avg. try finding that qt your grocer.

50# sack of baker potatoes, which the grocery store charges almost a buck a potato for less than $18/50#. Same with all of it, Onions re about 1/3 of grocers prices but, ya gotta but in bulk. Good reason to develop a root cellar I suppose.

Use your bean folks, even if you throw away half a sack of bakers potatoes, you're still money ahead. Find a Restaurant supply store near you and I'll bet they are online as well.

I have worked with guys in the US chicken farming business. They told me they had to wear heavy gloves so they don't get chemical burns from the chicken feed. The feed contains steroids to grow the chick to harvest in 6 weeks instead of 6 months, like the LAPD are on, antibiotics too. Its adulterated exactly in the way described in the Torah & the Bible as "unclean" and "unfit for consumption". Just like GMOs.

You eat that shit, you will get sick. Or maybe your wife will abort, or your children will be retards. Lot of all of that going around since 1970. It wasn't the LSD. Or the twinkies.

Organic is best. My charity in the third world eats better than most of you. For us, this is what you do: you go to the butcher and you ask for kosher meat. You'll pay a premium, but its clean food. I understand, the "kosher" bit is only about how the animal is killed and processed, but in my experience the kosher meat is also truly organic. Its actually "hilal". When you do this, you'll see the difference in the meat. After you eat you'll feel nourished, not tired.

At least in America the butchers all carry kosher food. If you don't see it, ask for it. It ain't Foster Farms.

Funny. What makes you think your butcher can tell the difference between kosher and non when he buys it? Unless you raise and grow it yourself, you'll never know.

Thats not it....chicken is dipped in chlorine baths after slaughter to kill salmonella et al and prevent cross contamination. The strength of the baths makes pool water seem like a natural spring.

Yeah, you keep eating those animals pumped up with antibiotics from birth until death.

Then, when you and your family have eaten enough of them, and you require medical treatment with antibiotics THAT NOW DO NOT WORK AT ALL FOR YOU,

then you can savor the fact that your meat came cheap.

R.I.P.

Just paid $7 a pound for hamburger trying to avoid the pink slime. IN Britain, they showed a statistic that showed, based on the amount of food purchased (which the grocers can correlate to the number of people) that Britain has 20 to 25% more people than the official numbers.

This is how you take over a country by foreign invasion: keep 'em off the books until it's too late.

This is Oboma's strategy for the final downfall of the US. Mexican invasion. It's said there are 30 Million Mexicans here; you may not notice since they all live together in enclaves. It is not racist to want to retain a traditionally white country that has Christianity as its pillars.

No one calls China racist. Mexico allowing immigration...not a chance, Mexico for the Mexicans! But they want our country too cause they think we've grown so fat and stupid we aren't smart enough to protect ourselves but COMPASSION is now spelled self-genocide.

Black people should worry the most; odd ya hear bout all the white racism but I've been very close to various races and they are all much more racist than whites could even think of being. Personally, I enjoy black people but as Cosby says, they are being ruined by the selling of thugism to their own. JayZ is the worst; he sells his wife's crotch as entertainment.

Meanwhile, since the casinos stopped taking food stamps to pay for gambling (missed mine, too honest, dang!), 4 casinos are closing in New Jersey. Funny isn't it, if the choice is gamble or eat, people will choose eat.

Now all they have to do is move it to work-to-eat and all will be good. Watch the old movies where White People do all the jobs because they earn money to feed their families.

I'd like to hire a high schooler to do my lawn but don't dare: 1. Labor laws that make me fear a lawsuit 2. Why should they work when their parents are paying for everything they need/want/desire?

Meanwhile, over at walmuck, the obese, the stupid, and the will-breed-for-food-stamps, are keeping that company afloat. It's said that 80% of the walmuck profit is via ebt/food stamps. Nice eh?

If you make 60,000 or less you are better off on the government gravy train than working because you don't have to get up in the morning and you can work off the books and keep the cash. Can you say drug runner?

These charts do make me question just much higher the market can go. The forces that have driven stock markets ever-higher and upward may be beginning to wane. Many markets became distorted years ago when QE and super low interest rates hit the economy in an effort to lessen many of the missteps of recent years.

This has been more helpful in holding up the underlying value of assets and derivatives it now appears than helping to repair a wounded economy. QE has up to now stopped an implosion of derivatives including the resulting contagion and shock that would have spread throughout the financial system. Unfortunately the economy has not fared as well as these asset prices and in many ways these policies have harmed Main Street. More on this subject in the article below,
