US Troops Are Heading To Ukraine
While only 'humanitarian adviser' boots on the ground are present in Iraq (and Syria), Reuters reports that preparations are under way near Ukraine's western border for a joint military exercise this month with more than 1,000 troops from the United States and its allies. As Obama told reporters last week, "that a military solution to this problem is not going to be forthcoming," it seems a little odd 'strategically' to go ahead with the Rapid Trident exercise Sept. 16-26 as a sign of the commitment of NATO states to support non-NATO member Ukraine, entailing the first significant deployment of U.S. and other personnel to Ukraine since the crisis erupted.
As fighting between the army and Russian-backed rebels rages in eastern Ukraine, preparations are under way near its western border for a joint military exercise this month with more than 1,000 troops from the United States and its allies.

I am talking about Russian politics today regarding post-soviet countries. What country did you visit?

In my experience, I see a generational split of opinion from my travels in Eastern Europe. Old people are still fixated on the "Soviet" mindset, where "Russians are bad", and young people who see it at two levels: On one level is Regime vs. Regime, or Russian oligarchs vs. Western oligarchs, and at the second level it's just people on all sides just trying to make a living.
Assimilation is an issue in all countries in the world, where large minorities are living closely together: it does not force them to assimilate, and they form communities with 'invisible walls' of their own making.

Good relations have always lacked real trust as past history (The Poles) always comes into play and made is necessary for them to join NATO. In Eastern Europe, history plays a key factor when choosing who your friends are. In the Poles case, they know the have no real friends, including NATO, who will comes to their rescue if the Russians do something crazy. Thus, in light of what is happening in the Ukraine, Poland's defense budget is going to increase every year.

Consider the demographics of people enlisting. The VAST majority are "Economic Refugees", who can't get a decent job in the Private Sector or are looking for that "free education", courtesy of US Taxpayer.
How many kids from the Top 5% are in the military, and of those, how may are in the front lines dodging bullets and shrapnel - rather than enjoying a safe 9-5 war from a distance? When Russian storm troopers invaded Crimea (with no flags on their uniforms), it was obvious and verified. Citizen journalists and security camers capture the whole thing. Is there any "real" evidence out there that Russia is backing the seperatists in East Ukraine? I know the Prez and the media keep saying it is so, but that doesn't make it so. Who has a link or a video or something that shows Russia supporting the seperatists? Does Russia even have control of its side of the Ukranian border?
