Russian General Demands Preemptive Nuclear Strike Doctrine Against NATO

Tyler Durden's picture

While NATO is contemplating its existential purpose in a world where the Cold War has suddenly come back with a vengeance, and the military alliance has found itself woefully unprepared to deal with a Russia which no longer accepts the supremacy of the west (appropriately enough NATO is doing this on a golf course) Russia is also strategizing, only instead of issuing "sharply-worded catchphrases" and hashtags, a Russian general has called for Russia to revamp its military doctrine, last updated in 2010, to clearly identify the U.S. and its NATO allies as Moscow's enemy number one. That in itself is not disturbing: we reported as much yesterday and is merely more rhetorical posturing. Where things, however, get very problematic is that the general demands that Russia spell out the conditions under which the country would launch a preemptive nuclear strike against the 28-member military alliance.

Moscow Times reports that Russia's military doctrine, a strategy document through which the government interprets military threats and crafts possible responses, is being revised in light of threats connected to the Arab Spring, the Syrian civil war and the conflict in Ukraine, the deputy chief of the Kremlin's security council told RIA Novosti on Tuesday.

That however is the soundbite for politically correct media purposes. Because within the Defense Ministry there are voices calling for different priorities.

"First and foremost, the likely enemy of Russia should be clearly identified in this strategic document, something absent from the 2010 military doctrine. In my view, our primary enemy is the U.S. and the North Atlantic bloc," General Yury Yakubov, a senior Defense Ministry official, was quoted as saying by Interfax.

If this sounds like a statement taken right out of the (first) Cold War, one involving the whole nuclear arms race, is because it is. The 2010 doctrine defines NATO expansion as a threat to Russian national security and reaffirms its right to use nuclear weapons in a defensive posture, but stops far short of declaring NATO as Moscow's primary adversary and laying preemptive nuclear strike scenarios on the table, a posture unmistakably reminiscent of the Cold War.

At the basis of this dramatic escalation is none other than Russia's stated response to what it perceives as a clear expansionary NATO threat.

Yakubov said the information war being waged over the crisis in Ukraine — where the West accuses Russia of arming separatists fighting the government in Kiev — and NATO's announcement that it would establish a permanent military presence in Eastern Europe have validated earlier fears that the alliance's claims of non-aggression toward Russia were insincere.

And the punchline: the general added that special attention should be paid to integrating the functions of the newly created Air and Space Defense Forces with Russia's land, sea and air based nuclear forces. "In addition, it is necessary to hash out the conditions under which Russia could carry out a preemptive strike with the Russian Strategic Rocket Forces," he said.

One can be certain that this is precisely what Russia will do.

So what happens next?

Recall what former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev said in November 2008 in his first presidential address to the Russian people: "Russia will deploy Iskander missile systems in its enclave in Kaliningrad to neutralize, if necessary, the anti-ballistic missile system in Europe." An anti-ballistic missle system also known as NATO.

Which it did less than a year ago, long before the Ukraine civil war was headline news every day. This is what happened the last time Russia flexed its nuclear deterrence muscles, in November of 2013.

Russia has stationed missiles with a range of about 500 kilometers in its Kaliningrad enclave and along its border with the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, Germany’s Bild-Zeitung reports, citing defense officials it didn’t identify. Satellite images show a “double-digit” amount of mobile units identified as SS-26 Stone in NATO code. Missiles were stationed within the past 12 months. SS-26 can carry conventional as well as nuclear warheads.

This is merely Russia being true to its warning word. From April 2012:

Moscow reiterated on Tuesday it may deploy Iskander theater ballistic missiles in the Baltic exclave of Kaliningrad that will be capable of effectively engaging elements of the U.S. missile defense system in Poland.

NATO members agreed to create a missile shield over Europe to protect it against ballistic missiles launched by so-called rogue states, for example Iran and North Korea, at a summit in Lisbon, Portugal, in 2010.

The missile defense system in Poland does not jeopardize Russia’s nuclear forces, Army General Nikolai Makarov, chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, said.

“However, if it is modernized…it could affect our nuclear capability and in that case a political decision may be made to deploy Iskander systems in the Kaliningrad region,” he said in an interview with RT television.

“But that will be a political decision,” he stressed. “So far there is no such need.”

A little over two years later, there is a need.

Which means forget "little green men" in Ukraine. Think massive Russian Iskander ICBM systems planted on the border with Poland, Ukraine, the Baltics and all across Russia Western border, and the furious screamfest this would waterfall into.

We can't wait to see how algos will spin such pre-emptive steps to a very mushroom cloudy World War III...

This is impossibly bad. After Putin's suggestion of a peace plan was buried today Poroshenko is saying he wants peace on Friday, which is all over Western news. The only mention of Putin was that his peace plan was a second or third trojan horse ploy for war. This has been the game all along, try and dissuade any information coming from Russia and then a few days later use it against them.

Whether the direct intention is really Iran or Russia is irrelevant. NATO has made it very clear that they are now in full-blown economic warfare with Russia (the gas problem is simply in keeping with a fictional economy) and are making statements regarding 'all cards are in play'. There is some discrete language coming out that has suggested nuclear exchange is within the parameters.

They are using Russian attempts at diplomacy to further ratchet up tensions. They are making it very clear in psyop-speak that they have no intentions of diplomacy. Before the war they want total surrender.

Today and tomorrow I expect we will be barraged with propaganda as to how Poroshenko was calling for Peace and how more Russian troops disregarded the peace plan, and Putin was using peace as a ploy. The Cold War language with Orwellian comedy. Things could heat up this weekend if somehow NATO is not forced to step down. This is why Russia is stating this, it's cards are all in play, or the queen has been taken out aggressively ready to sacrifice (I don't in any way support bombs, especially nuclear ones, but I try to understand the logic of those using them, especially when the world is at the cusp of a nuclear exchange).

NEWPORT (UK), September 4 (RIA Novosti) – NATO will allocate about 15 million euro ($19.4 million) in financial aid for Ukraine, Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said Thursday.

After the meeting of the Ukraine-NATO commission at the level of heads of states and governments, Rasmussen said the alliance will also help Ukraine in cyber security, logistics, military command, communications and post-injury rehabilitation of servicemen.

As the Ebola epidemic threatens to overwhelm response efforts in West Africa, calls for international military assistance are picking up.

The medical charity Doctors Without Borders called on world leaders to send military units with expertise in biohazard containment to combat the worst outbreak of the virus on record.

The European Commission’s humanitarian arm (ECHO) is also calling  for military medical intervention to combat the epidemic, including U.S. Army and Navy Seal protection teams.

But ECHO health adviser Jorge Castilla-Echenique warned of the high financial costs involved in a “M.A.S.H. like operation” in an interview with Thomson Reuters Foundation. U.S. Army mobile surgical hospitals have the capacity to serve as fully functional health facilities, but they do not come cheap, he said.

I say stop the importation of gas.

Impose a STRICT cordon sanitaire.  This means Africa itself.  Use nature's barriers, the Sahara, the rainforest.

Is it a serious outbreak or not?  Allow movement by foot or bicycle only, this would clearly limit the spread of the disease.

All supplies to be delivered by boat.  Yes, all of this would harm Africa's 'economy', it would affect 'investments' on the continent...  It would affect the social order.   But its also the best bet for stopping the spread, and giving this thing some chance of BURNING ITSELF OUT.

(Reuters) - The U.N. nuclear watchdog said it has seen releases of steam and water indicating that North Korea may be operating a reactor, in the latest update on a plant that experts say could make plutonium for atomic bombs.

North Korea announced in April of last year that it would revive its aged five-megawatt research reactor at the Yongbyon nuclear complex, saying it was seeking a deterrent capacity.

The isolated and poverty-stricken state defends its nuclear programme as a "treasured sword" to counter what it sees as U.S.-led hostility.

The US Army has been sitting on a huge cache of nuclear artillery shells in South Korea since MacArthur was fired. The Army's MPs have control of that arsenal. Norht Korea knows this and that's why there has not been any human wave attacks or a massive shelling of Seoul. Russia's 300 mile range local theater nukes would be spent confetti on the ground if America's and Great Britain's boomers opened up on the Bear's cave and they know it. While Putin is vacationing, playing good cop and offering truce and peace plans as he flies to his next destination, his generals get to play bad cop and threaten Life On Earth. So Putin has his puppets mouthing the threats. Remember, nobody wins a nuclear war. Nukes have always been a deterrent and a chip in negotiations.

I'm sure our POTUS will lead the world to peace and harmony, at least that is the every day prayer.

You know that radio active material degrades, right?

You know that it has to be HIGHLY radioactive to be fissionable in a nuclear bomb, right?

You know that with Plutonium and Uranium half lives being what they are, and the purity requirements being what they are, that a 60-year-old tactical nuke is basically just depleted uranium, right?

You know that that is where they get all the depleted uranium that goes into things like 'sabot' rounds, etc, right?

You know that you have to re-refine all your nuclear materials every few years or they turn into duds, right?

Because that is what 'half-life' means, right?

You know that the yield of a newly constructed nuke starts out high, and just like the Dollar, gets lower, and lower every day thereafter, until it finally won't do anything but put out radiation, like a 'dirty' bomb...and finally is just a heavy piece of metal...right?

I guess you can see that I totally discount all claims that there are 60-year-old active nukes.   They won't blow up after 10 years, much less 60.

I said this over a month or two ago on here.. If anyone does not believe Putin is capable of a first strike when he is faced with the prospect of the eventual enroachment to take over Russia or force them to bow down they are mistaken. This will be the first and likely last warning we receive...he knows that with his attempts to displace America as reserve currency and removal of our hemegony globally have only been met with aggresion so now he is all in and tired of our endless aggression and provocation.

He knows full well after MH-17 that we and the Ukraine shot down that plane...he knows the truth will soon out and it will be he who does it inevitably and that is his trump card because we have not broached the subject since those bullet holes were found on the sides of the cockpit...he knows that assasination plans are now being considered and the MH-17 may have even been a case of mistaken identity to shoot down his plance...he also knows that when he dies the U.S. will try to place a puppet regime in Russia whenever that occurs decades or years from now and this man loves his nation and has solely brought it back to it's superpower status.

Like I said last month the only way to ensure Russia will survive may be to first strike Manhattan, L.A. & D.C. with subs that are only a few miles off of our coasts...and once the head of the snake is removed this fat EBT lazy civilization we have no here in the U.S. will destroy itself out of fear...and the rioters and Freee Shit Army will do all the heavy lifting...all of Europe will be so frightened that it would not dare retaliate and we likely would not either because the bully would have not only been punched in the nose but obliterated permananetly and now saddled with debt and the inability to print money because they have no more reserve currency the moment those nukes go off..

All this while China is likely the nation that would deliver the boomer nukes from the Pacific Coast into L.A. (Which they test ran years ago) and was dismissed as a 747 and lighting illusion..but we all knew what it was. We are acting like bullies and our rhetoric is one of provocation because our card has been called along with our hypocrisy...

When Putin said last week that U.S. missiles could hit Moscow in 18 minutes he was stating "We know what you can do and you know we can do the exact same"...He must be living in a constant state of paranoia at this point and rightly so....These are hundreds of millions of lives and if you do not think this All-In plutocracy is capable of attempting to bring us to this point resting on their laurels of the past 40 years of bullying compliance than just take a look at our President & VP puppets...

One morning while everyone is asleep if the U.S. continues to escalate this at 3:18 A.M. missiles will lift off from the Atlantic and destroy us and we will be so "Deer in headlights" that we will find ourselves with a Europe & Asia aligned against us because one nation finally stood up and all of this is unnecessary and all over lining the pockets off a few families with energy and fiat printing. My family & I live in Manhattan and this frightens this shit out of me...there is no need and this is not the nation I was raised in any longer.

Well spoken, John McCloy.

You say "This will be the first and likely last warning we receive..."

No. Putin always warns various times. It's his way, as we all should know by now. It goes like this: he warns. If his oponents don't listen, he warns again. If it still doesn't work, he wants to talk to them face to face. If they still don't listen, he takes action.

Guess they will have to listen...

"he also knows that when he dies the U.S. will try to place a puppet regime in Russia".

Not so fast. As you say, Putin full well knows that. He also knows the might of the USA is crumbling by the day.

Nuclear tipped cruise missiles from Russian subs... Approximately 5 minutes to Washington D.C., launched from a Russian sub in the Chesapeake Bay. US sub launched nuclear tipped cruise missile from a Russian river at Moscow, a bit longer, but not much.

I once held this designation, NEC code 3353. I was also the yeoman in charge of all documents relating to all things nuclear. And there wasn't that much else to do except read those documents in the yellow folders. Basically you're screwed. But you won't be alone, so is everybody else.

It certainly isn't "{all of} the Jews" but if we're willing to be honest - it is exceedingly odd how much Jews are involved - either in media, or government, or finance, etc. - in so much that is going on.

Most of the "oligarchs" in both russia and ukraine are jews in lands which are 2% and 1% jewish respectively - do you think Henry ford and Charles Lindbergh were wrong about "International Jewry" 80 years ago or just talking about Jewish organization and power trans-nationally?

They weren't racists - they simply saw Jews having disproportionate power and using it to advocate for wars to benefit their own  [and banking interests].

The loudest anti-Putin/Russian voices seem to come from Jewish pundits, whether its at the Times or on CNN...

How can there be 17 million world wide when they are absolutely everywhere...  Nuland and Pyatt and "Yats" -all Jews... as is Soros...

No matter what you do in discussing Jewish power, someone will race to call you a Nazi - just for speaking the truth and being generally anti war and America First - I suppose it gets too tedious to keep saying "it's not all or even most Jewish people, etc etc."

Everywhere you look, where forces advocate for needless war, you seem to find Jews - wildly in excess of their proportion in the population.

Just like the Jews in the early Bolsheviks [or in the communist movements in Hungary, Poland, Germany, and elsewhere]  - they were there in enough numbers to largely control things - but look at the wikipedia entry on "Jewish Bolshevism" and see how well the truth has been converted into "hate" and a Texas sharpshooter fallacy type argument used to mitigate the disproportionate role of Jews in the leadership of the Bolsheviks.

Stalin got called an "anti-Semite" for purging so many Jews despite his many Jewish friends and Jewish wife because it was verboden to realize that it was a result of the fact that most of the leadership was Jewish - people who HATED ethnic Russians and Christians, which, Stalin realized, was not going to help the government stay in power.

Wiki, of course, like FB, and google, and youtube and reddit is firmly controlled by Zionists - you do have to admire their power, and the way in which they have made it impossible to discuss that power, or their influence in media, banking, or in Jewish lobby groups transnationally

p.s. Goot stuff at www.whatreallyhappened.com in re the second beheading - this starts to look more and more like ISIS = neocon Jews.

Again.

And if that isn't the most resounding statement (which is true by the way) of what separates both countries and what they both deem as "priceless" nothing else will!...

Our leaders have bunkers for themselves that the American public pays taxes for but knows nothing about which is only for them.  Russia has some of the most sophisticated underground networks that can house millions in the event of an "exchange"

I understand CNN and MSNBC have a new version of "duck and cover" from the 1950's that will instruct us how to find safety under the school desk or the dining room table -only this time we probably won't even be alerted by air raid sirens as the budget for maintenance to those dried up many years ago!

Again I would say...WWIII will not happen (unless a rogue tech/soldier somewhere gets crazy) because the central banks and the central bank of central banks would not allow such mayhem.

When ISIS first showed up, the claims were it was a fighting force of 700 and the U.S. was NOT concerned at all. And the U.S. remained 'unconcerned' for a long time. Why? To let the threat grow larger as to fuel the flames of fear. But of course one should be careful of what one asks for. Many many historians and analysts have warned that if the Arab world ever 're-united', the rest of the world would have a very serious problem at hand. But the difference between shites and sunnis seemed to keep this from happening. Now...enter ISIS which does not seem to care a whole lot about either of the sects as neither are as radical as the new kids on the block.  I'm more concerned about this than the ebola issue.

I think the ebola issue was allowed to run amuck a bit at first (not supplying enough equipment and response) to let it get a decent foothold. But unless there is either a mutation that promotes easier/faster infection or a significant group of people are exposed and then let loose in another country in sufficient numbers to overwhelm the health care system, it will stay pretty much continent bound.

In the western world, there is no dearth of knowledge about what an even 'limited' nuclear exchange would do to the planet.

I think we are getting 'played' with the Ukraine situation. However....it would be at the least 'decent' of everyone to remember that in the Ukraine, people ARE suffering at the hands of game players.

I fondly remember as executive chef my first year at a country club and I served my first club wide members banquet.  Almost 6 hundred people.  Appetizers,,, ice carvings,  soup,, salad ,,, three meat choices,,,, desserts,,,,,   Planned for a month,,,, everything covered,,,,, dining rooms packed with people,, ice carvings  done and looking great on the appetizer tables,,,, about to serve salad round and my sous chef looked over at me and said,,,,"this is about to get real."  I remember that statement for some reason.

We pulled it off with rave reviews without a hitch.  It doesn't matter what you do as a professional.  It isn't real until the conditions present themselves to act and perform as a professional.  We have been so long and so far from anything like leadership or professional perfomance in our governments at all levels that I truly shudder to think what would happen now if "this was about to get real."

It is characteristic of humans not to think of the next step where the surviving people in the US spend all of their effort, technology, and knowledge to develop a weapon intended not to militarily cripple, but to permanently depopulate whoever launched the first strike, and that at there will be no threats, no demands, no mercy, no second chance.

The First Strikers need to know now that their every word, every action, every breath they take carry the implicit threat of death to the rest of the worlds population, and that population will respond accordingly.

A First Strike Nation, is a nation that has signed their own death warrant, with an eternity of time for the sentence to be delivered.

The survivors of WWII understood that.

Only time will tell whether their lesser successors have similar foresight.

Read Truman thought about how the world would view the US if 'too many women and children were fried in Horishima. Then did it anyway. This is a great archive site:

The US wanted to be the baddest muthafukkers on the planet, and look where it's ended up. Epic fail team..

Kinda dumb to make an announcement of it...don't ya think?  Not that I assume leaders in other countries are smarter or less psychotic than ours...but still.  As noted below, you lose the sneak attack aspect when you announce it and WHY...WHY would you feed the MSM "Russia is evil and Putin is Hitler" meme when you are doing a pretty good job of splitting the PR game as it stands now with a lot less resources at your disposal in the west.

NATO and the US and the EU and Kiev wanted some Russian somebody to say something stupid like this...for the 24/7 news cycle.  I guess the extent to which that plays out will tell me who's all in this game...and who isn't?

This must be the Liberty Incident you refer to.

This has everything you ever wanted to know about the USS Liberty and Israel's pretense that it thought the Liberty was an Egyptian warship

Wow, good luck ladies.  You invade a sovereign country and you want to nuc the world because they have the adacity to call you on it.  You're fucked in the head, right?

Show me the invasion...literally...show me the invasion with obvious photos and videos and anything else that should be available if Russia invaded.  When we invade countries there is no hiding it...are you telling me these crafty Ruskies are so clever they can invade nations in the 21st century and remain hiden the whole time?

What a farce.  Now threatening nuclear war is silly...the US hasn't done so in a while because they realized that you really don't have to...everyone already knows it's a possibility.

You know.... that works both ways.

Where are the CIA agents who are supposedly hiding under every bush?

Where are the legions of Xi stormtroopers?  Where are the videos?  Where are the pictures?  If it is so, I am not surprised.  I think all governments are criminals.  But where is the evidence?

In every contest there is a winner and a loser. Laying bets on the favored horses in a race is not the same thing as breeding them.

True.

But you don't doubt there's CIA there now, do you?

And I don't doubt there's Russian SF and intel.

What matters, though, is what tale the MSM is telling - all without evidence, and all tightly coordinated.

CNN and Fox are truly frightening psy-ops to behold in that they are obvious psy-ops for middle america...

I am sure CIA is there.

They would be idiots if they weren't.  Same with KGB.

I am simply highlighting that an argument cuts both ways.  If it is equally damning both ways, then it is really just mud-slinging.

But unlike most here, I also have the benefit of being able to watch the Russian news channels in Russian.

If you think that they are more honest or balanced than the US MSM, then you are in for a huge disappointment.

In Russia you have to register with the government even to be a blogger.  That absolutely supresses any views the government doesn't like.  But those views still leak out.

Officially, the story of the captured Russian Paratroopers in Ukraine is a non-issue where a wandering patrol simply drove down the wrong road.  Unoffically, it is making big waves, because the soldiers SAID THAT THEIR UNITS WERE OPERATING IN UKRAINE, and everyone knows it is true.  The families of the casualties know it is true.  There is simply no question that the active-duty Russian Army is fighting in Ukraine.  It is totally ridiculous that anyone could claim it is not, or that this fact is not common knowledge in Russia.  It is common knowledge.  You just can't say it in public.  But you can say it 'between the lines' and in other venues.

FOR INSTANCE:

A lot of it goes out as humor.  For instance, a few days ago there was a variety show.  It was absolutely hilarious!  The format was a lot like the Carol Burnett show.   They did a series of skits making fun of different ridiculous things, where the various comedians made ridiculous claims - with the joke being how unbelievable was the ridiculous claim.  Throughout the entire show, after each of the 'ridiculous claim' skits they segued to a Russian news clip showing the captured Russian soldiers being returned, with a newscast voice over claiming that there were no Russian troops in the Ukraine, that the soldiers had simply wandered over the border on... and then sequed back to another 'ridiculous claim' skit.

They were making fun of their news people's (and government's) claim that there were no Russians Army units operating in Ukraine.

So, let me be clear.  Regular Russian Army units (not just special forces) are operating in the Ukraine, and everyone in Russia knows it.

Same reason why you shouldn't support Israel...just look up the Samson option...basically if the state of Israel existence is ever threatened then let rockets fly...

Yet there is never any dialogue about this...just one of those lesser known facts..
