Martin Armstrong Asks "Has Western Society Become Fascist?"

The entire problem we face going ahead stems from the very idea of Karl Marx that government is capable of managing the economy either through communism or autocratic-socialism where the state dictates to the economy under the pretense of caring for the people, that has truly become a derivative of fascism where the state comes first. This is even reflected in the conviction rate that has risen from 72% in the 1970s to virtually 99% today eliminating fair trials. We also see it taking shape in the militarization of the police that actually do not protect society, but the state from the people. Police have been converted to IRS agents on wheels to raise money by abusing the people for every possible type of traffic violation. In Princeton, New Jersey, they even have signs in a parking lot “park head in”. If you back into a parking spot you get a ticket. The actor Alec Baldwin was arrested for rising his bicycle against traffic. Who knew you could even be arrested for such a thing. This is autocratic-socialism where the state pretends its abuse of the people is for their benefit when in fact there is always a profit that falls to them like FATCA and the NSA really looking for money – not terrorists.
Savers are being exploited by government under the pretense of managing the economy. You see many retired people back in the work force doing service jobs because they can no longer earn income on their savings for life. Savers receive no return presently on their life savings because Central banks punish savers and subsidize the debtors assuming that borrowing is required for economic growth. This core assumption that government even possesses the mental capabilities to manage the economy is extremely dangerous for it then creates a fascist state where society is supposed to worship the state as all-knowing and caring where its survival takes precedent over the individual. This is reflected in calling Snowden a traitor. How is it possible that someone who exposes illegal activity in government faces life in prison? Such legal positions are only possible in a fascist state where it is not We the People, it is the State Comes First.
This is actually part of the political-economic cycle where the arrogance of the state officials leads them to assume it is their well-being and power that is important and must be defended against the people. The people become the great unwashed and the state rises confusing itself as the embodiment of the nation and country. Thomas Paine pointed this out in his Common Sense. Then too, like Snowden, he was an enemy of the state was to be hanged. Thomas Jefferson was also regarded as a traitor and the king sent an entire army to his house to capture Jefferson and hang him. He was warned and escaped watching the army surround his home from the woods on the hill.
Even if we go back to the Roman Republic we find Cicero also addresses the “arrogance of officialdom”. This is simply a problem that has plagued human society since the dawn of time. It is the arrogance of government that forgets the PEOPLE are the nation, not politicians and bureaucrats. Consequently, in their blind arrogance, the political powers in Washington would kill Snowden for exposing their corruption. They would love to behead him, but restraint themselves only to pretend they are noble
Obama has seen his polls collapse to 39% favorable. Within that, are simply the ignorant who would vote for a democrat simply because they hate republicans. Of course, there are republicans who also do not understand and just hate democrats just because they exist. TV stations like FOX and MSNBC should be banned and we need the old law returned where the press MUST present a fair and balance view instead of this war of propaganda. For those who do not know the history of the FCC, it was once called the Fairness Doctrine which was a policy of the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC), introduced in 1949, that required the holders of broadcast licenses to present controversial issues of public importance with both sides and to do so in a manner that was honest, equitable and balanced. The FCC eliminated the Doctrine in 1987, and in August 2011 the FCC formally removed the language that implemented the Doctrine. We have been subjected and bombarded with nothing but propaganda ever since. MSNBC and programs like the Ed Show would NEVER have a Republican on or EVER say a kind word about any Republican. This is not press – it is no different from the notorious Pravda (Truth) of the old Soviet Union.
Obama actually had the arrogance to tell the American people as reported on January 17, 2014, that they must give up their civil liberties to secure the existence of the state – that is precisely fascism. Obama said the American NSA and military power worldwide was more important than individual civil rights. Whenever people must surrender rights to support the state that falls in the category of fascism.
One common definition of fascism focuses on three basic concepts: anti-liberalism, anti-communism and anti-conservatism. Its basic tenet is a nationalist authoritarian state with goals of creating a regulated economic structure to transform social relations within a modern, self-determined culture. This is precisely what we have devolved into. We now have a form of political behavior that is marked by obsessive preoccupation with the state’s political power arguing the community is at risk because of terrorism so everyone must now prove who they are to travel right down to taking your shoes off and be exposed to accumulative dangerous radiation all because we are victims of unreasonable fanatic hatred groups and cults. But these hate-groups hate the political image of America created by the arrogance of officialdom.
Our dominance by this new authoritarian-fascist state is a form of radical authoritarian nationalism that some believe only came to prominence in early 20th-century Europe. This concept of European fascism was influenced by national syndicalism that they only attribute to originating in Italy in the immediate aftermath of World War I. This combined more typically right-wing positions with elements of left-wing politics, in opposition to liberalism, Marxism, and traditional conservatism. Although fascism is usually placed on the far right on the traditional left–right spectrum, it is hard to really place it left or right because if your move to the extreme left or right you reach political agreement with minor differences.
The goals of the fascists were not much different from those infecting our society today. The primary goal was to manage the economy and to direct it according to the benefit of the state. This is why savers are being punished today for the benefit of debtors, which includes the state. Keep interest rates suppressed and the state reduces its costs. That is the primary goal intermixed with pumping up the economy so that tax revenues rise. The fascists of Italy sought to unify their nation through an authoritarian state that promoted the mass mobilization of the national community and were characterized by having leadership that initiated a revolutionary political movement aiming to reorganize the nation along principles according to fascist ideology. Fascist movements shared certain common features, including the veneration of the state, a devotion to a strong leader, and an emphasis on ultranationalism and militarism. We are seeing the dominance of the NSA and the militarization of the police that was supposed to be civil. These are all traits that are highly dangerous historically and reflect the arrogance of officialdom.
Fascism typically involves expansion of the state power on every level, which includes war and imperialism that serves as a means to achieve national rejuvenation and veneration. Right now in Ukraine, the people are told the state is at war and that comes first and they will have to wait for political reform. Fascism truly asserts that stronger nations have the right to expand their territory by displacing weaker nations. We are seeing this as a trait in both the USA and the EU not to forget Russia.
Consequently, fascist ideology consistently invokes the primacy of the state. We see this both with Obama’s defense of the NSA and economically with the central banks attempting to “manage” the economy according to the theories of Marx and Keynes that the state possesses the right and capacity to manipulate the economy. They have been unable to prove that ability even once for they are far too corrupt to even manage anything in an unbiased manner.
Unfortunately, governments routinely punish savers to support debtors all for the benefit of the state – not society and certainly not the savers. There are economists who disparage the spread between the rich and the poor without explanation. The “rich” are not getting “richer” from salaries – they make that money through investment. If you do not invest – you obviously cannot make more than a salary.

Otherwise good, the editorial makes an epic FAIL when calling for government regulation of the airwaves, which these days would include the internet, in the form of re-introduction of the so-called "Fairness Doctrine". In fact, many the author rails against have called for such an innter-web-tubes "Fairness Doctrine". Besides, the real news is on alternative media. Which, unfortunately, would be shut down by such an imposition. The Founders were very clear - free press (today's interpretation should include any form of mass or semi-mass) communication. And it must be remembered that at the time they wrote that, they HATED the press with a white-hot passion.
Does anyone think this bunch, or the next (whether RED or BLUE team), now that the precedent has been set and accepted by those who matter, wouldn't use the selective enforcement of this regulation to allow some voices to be heard, but others to be crushed under fines, license revocations, minority impact studies, transgender impact studies, and the like?

It's a good point but I believe it misses the mark: the Fairness Doctrine only applied to public stations under the idea that they were the public airwaves and must represent all sides equally. A private YouTube channel would not be subject to a Fairness Doctrine if it was actually still active today. I don't believe the Supreme Court would find it that way either. It's too obvious.

The framework for this piece could be something very simple, such as ZHers were enthusiastically complaining of/bitching about Armstrong's incessant lists that were being presented here fairly frequently. Maybe, as a writer, he thought he might take a different approach which clearly also has not worked as evidenced by this thread.
I enjoy his blog very much and frequent it at least weekly. Obviously he's a prolific writer. Sometimes he hits the mark with stunning accuracy, other times he's casually plunking away at the bow with paper mache arrows. At the very least that could be said of him by me, he is at times incredibly insightful to the point of brilliance.
He's been right, I wish I'd listened.

The problem you are seeing in media today is the selective non-enforcement of monolopy power. Allowing several HUGE media companies to control the message for millions and millions of people. The FCC and FTC should have been blocking these media mergers since the 70's but they have not. This is what created the current media climate, not the lack of a "Fairness Doctrine"

Indeed I am, living here in my self-sufficient digs 125km from the nearest human beings (for the past 3 years). See the comment above for more. I totally love this life. So would many other people, if they took the "risk". Now I can't imagine moving back to uncivilization.
I absolutely understand where you are coming from and applaud your sentiments. Having said that, every time you apply the brakes on your car at a red light or stop sign you are being governed. Every time you park your car between designated lane lines you are being governed. Every time you pay your water bill, light bill, and any other utility bill your city comes up with you are being governed.
Being governed has pervaded our lives on so many levels without our being aware of it that compliance , at this point, probably has its own genetic marker.
There are ways to live in an 'ungoverned manner' but the time taken to actually suss that out then do it would require a total change in how you live, if in fact you live like most of us here. The best way to be independent of governance is not to use approved currency, meaning you live in a community that is built on trust, exchange of actual help to one another, the transfer of goods between one another without taxation and without using currency, and essentially living off the grid. In other words, living in a community that respects barter, trade, and necessary skills. There are people who do that successfully but their communities are well protected. By themselves.
I wish you all the luck in the world finding that community, and if you live in one already, I applaud you even more.
You have an odd meaning for the term "governed". According to you, if I make a fully voluntary agreement with someone, I am governed. For example, if I pull into a private parking lot and park between the lines (because that's what the owner wants), then you say I'm being governed. You forget I don't need to deal with that owner at all... which is fundamentally different than dealing with those human predators who call themselves "government".
You probably don't realize this, but what you propose supports predator authoritarians. They want us to imagine that voluntary interactions with others is a form of "governance". That way, they can pretend the interactions they have with us are also voluntary and reasonable interactions. Nothing could be further from true.
Even on the street, where indeed the predators-that-be created the "rule" that "red light means stop and green light means go", my primary reason to not run red lights was... to not get hit by a truck. That is my own decision, for my own good.
The predators love people to fall for the LIE "just because one of their rules makes sense and is reasonable (stop at red lights) means all of their rules make sense and are reasonable". Again, nothing could be further from true.
In my specific case, which I admit is unusual, I no longer drive cars. My home is 125km from the nearest human being, and cannot be reached by land vehicle. And so now I fly my little airplane to wherever I go... usually some tiny town 150km to 250km away, and I land on an open field or dirt road near the stores I want to visit.
So guess what? I don't stop at red lights. I don't stop at stop signs. I don't park my car (anywhere), because I don't have one. I park my airplane wherever I wish (close to where I want to go, but somewhere nobody will run a vehicle into it). I have my own water supply, so I pay nobody for water. I have my own solar-panels, so I pay nobody for electricity. I even grow enough of my own food that I could live the rest of my life without buying food if I wanted. Though... I do buy (and sometimes trade) food to increase the variety of food I can enjoy.
Everyone I buy from regularly (when I fly to town for supplies every month or three) accepts silver or gold. Fancy that! And guess what? They're happy to. First because they know PM is real, and second because they know otherwise I'll just trade with someone else. When I must buy something from an unsual source, they sometimes won't accept metal and so I get a friend to buy what I need (with local currency) and then I exchange silver or gold with them for the goods I want. Probably 2 to 5 times per year I find myself in an unusual situation where I need to get and hold fiat for a few hours to buy something.
Yes, most people live where many aspects of "normal life" are provided by corporations who tack on taxes and regulations mandated by predators-DBA-government. They don't have to... they could buy solar-panels and dig water wells just like me in many cases, but choose not to (to spend less in the short term, but more in the long term, ala conventional short-term thinking).
And yes, I also appreciate people who interact and barter and trade with each other in ways that avoid those human predators who intend to impose their will upon everyone.
Yes, a life without governance can be risky, because those human predators have convinced quite a few "regular folks" to enjoy getting us "non-slave types" in trouble. Being in what most people consider the extreme boonies helps a LOT. Having invested 90% of my life savings into setting up a self-sufficient place to live helps a LOT. Having moved to an obscure location in the southern hemisphere helps a LOT. Multiply all these considerations together and... it pretty much works. As with any lifeform, predators are always out there waiting to destroy me. That's a fact of life, whether you "obey" those human predators or not.
But I've done well since I got outta dodge, so far anyway (3 years). My tiny little high-tech carbon-fiber airplane helps quite a lot too. 75 miles per gallon (32 kpl) at economy speed (240kph) on premium unleaded automobile gasoline. 4000km range (and 6000km range with in-cabin fuel blatters). Only ~80 meters to land and take off. Could fly above 30,000 feet if I wanted and needed (a bit over 20,000 is plenty for me). And I've flown to 15 fictitious nations since I got this little toy... without permission, without visa, without ID and without practical worries. Who notices a tiny little 260kg airplane landing on a back road in the middle of nowhere at 3am (thanks to GPS, 3-axis autopilot, plus research and planning)? Who would imagine it flew 4000km hops across the south pacific ocean? Who cares? Nobody, really... because they don't know or notice. Out of sight, out of mind. Works pretty well. Would I tempt fate by flying into a country like the USSA? No thanks! I'm not stupid.
So I've pretty much solved the "refuse to be governed" issue as much as practical without taking significant risks.
But, my comments are meant as much for people who live in normal places, to create an attitude that helps them decide how to stop being governed... issue by issue.
Start with "I do not consent to be governed". Not consenting doesn't mean you can avoid every imposition, but it does mean your clear position is "you do not consent" - you are being forced (under protest and duress).
Next step is to "refuse to be governed"... one issue at a time. Be practical. Chose those aspects of life that are easies to extract yourself from "being governed". Perhaps this means "solar-panels on the roof" (evade electricity companies and the associated taxes and regulations). Perhaps this means "moving to a rural area", either in a modest way like you propose (where you do have neighbors), or if you're as much an outlier as me, somewhere completely "out there". Perhaps this means "starting a cash business, or a barter business". Step by step is better than nothing.
I understand I had an easier time than most people. I became super frugal at a very young age. I never borrowed money. I never had kids. I never had pets. I worked for myself my whole life (so didn't need to live in cities or towns). I saved in gold and silver, which helped somewhat between 2000 and 2011 (when I cashed out 90% to build my home in the boonies and buy my little airplane).
So it took 90% of my life savings to "set myself up" as described. Others have asked help to do the same. But they don't have enough money to copy what I did (about $350K). So I advise them to form collaborations of a few like-minded people, pool their funds, and then they can have enough to more-or-less copy what I did. But getting highly independent people to agree on anything (like where to move) is a bit like herding cats. Sadly they don't seem to realize fully or clearly enough that making compromises to agree on location is better than staying stuck in the evil empire and going down with the fiat ship... and maybe getting killed in the process.
Where are the pioneers? Lost in history it seems.

Yes, they do have a virtually identical model with slightly different prop that qualifies for the easier sport aircraft licenses. I got a full blown pilot license years ago, so I was able to buy the model with slightly more efficient prop and a couple other minor goodies.
