Is This Why Apple Is Falling?

Tyler Durden's picture

Sure, it could be front-running the inevitable post-product-launch "it's great but not that great" sell-off... but one wonders if more is at play here...

I have a Z30 on order from BB. I have had the same android phone for years and reached the point where I did a factory reset and never gave it a gmail account. It is basically a phone and a browser. I am very disappointed how privacy and control are handled (no way I would touch an iPhone).

My opinion is that if I pay cash for the device (I did) and I pay for my service (I do) then my device should not be crippled because I prefer not to be tracked/logged/marketed.

I may not like the Z30, but it looks to be a much more sercure device than the competition.

"I really doubt the cloud needs forty year old redneck male selfies!"

FACT:  the "cloud" ...when it was DARPAnet...was all porn...mostly "kiddie porn"...

graphics files (prior to smaller file sized video formats) were the largest files to use for testing the network for congestion....

...add military personnel....and voila!

....I'm sure they were all "good Christians" too......

Anyone else here ever logon and use DARPAnet...before it became ARPANET...then the "internet"?

As well, the idea of "cloud services" came from IBM...just another euphemism for "client-server" architecture for serving applictions and keeping storage on the server side...BFD....from a network perspective, it was stupid in 1960...and it is stupid now....

...it is still the attempt to justify "central computing" for Big Brother...instead of "distributed architecture" (aka "freedom")....same for the Electric Power industry....wake up everyone!

"....Anyone else here ever logon and use DARPAnet...before it became ARPANET...then the "internet"? ..."

Yep, me. I was a programmer writing code to support it for the various intelligence organizations I worked at.

And I couldnt agree with you more about the "cloud" simply being a re-invention of the old time sharing stuff you and I used to do with mainframes.

"stuff you and I used to do with mainframes."

SIOP...the kiddies here think the world was born with html....they type "/" all day long not knowing it's significance....

First computer I saw was a UNIVAC (Travis AFB)...5 city blocks of warehouses full of vacuum tubes...the heat was insane....they had 4 megawatt generators running it...only calculated rudimentary vectors for C-5 traffic....

Of course, black ops had the "real" computers then....

From Paul Brody , Vice President , IBM:

"Today, IBM is developing an entirely new architecture that enables a full range of computing capabilities in a distributed model. Unlike past approaches to distributed computing, this one does not depend on knowing or trusting every node in the network — a practical impossibility with billions of devices to be placed in millions of locations.

The core of this new approach is built upon the Block Chain, a model of distributed computing leveraging the architecture of BitCoin (without the financial component). Using the Block Chain we can implement the typical transaction processing work done by centralized data centers without any of the cost associated with those systems by using compute power generated by individual devices that would, in most cases, go to waste."

Anything you can do, the Chinese can do it better and cheaper.

Isn't that how Apple operates now. Except for the better part since Jobs died so did innovation and cheaper part well to improve their profits not the price of the units. I thought the Cupertino corporate headquarters was just to keep up appearances of being an American corporation and provide some silcon valley hipster types a place to hang out during the day so they clog up the streets like homeless people.

"Isn't that how Apple operates now."

Exactly....and that is why they became "Wall St's darling".....

Same bankster formula that Apple resisted for so long...then Jobs caved....

Ship manufacturing overseas, use PC hardware and keep the industrial design they're famous for...

The only good thing to come out of it from a "consumer" perspective, is that I have half a dozen, screaming i7 Macs with screaming graphics cards ...all sub $1000 each!

An equivalent PC (which I also built) costs more....so, if price is the same...why bother with the constant security issues and running utilities all day long just to be able to send an email....

Not to mention the constant Service Packs (a feature, I know...) and hodge-podge crap all piled on top of 24-bit "BIOS"...barf....

Windows barely even still makes use of EFI....Intel's long touted big reason to stay with Windows...

OS X has been EFI since 2006...and Intel admits that Apple implemented the architecture better than any other OS...

Rome never "fell"....it just faded away....

False dichotomy, you could aslo run Linux. In fact most internet websites and even banks use it for back end now. I can't believe your serious about saying "Mac" is better value than a PC with Linux. In any event Mac OS is just re-badged Free-BSD, another Unix variant, except it has a bunch of "ringfence" the customer, DRM crap on it.

It's a maturing market that reached global saturation 2 years ago.

You don't buy AAPL for the growth any more, you buy for the buybacks.

Apple are creaming their position as market leader and hosing their equity holders with redistributed profits.

Sooner or later someone will knock them off the top. Lot could come at any time, a competitor product could make phones obsolete or the market could simply shift underneath them. Or there could be an all consuming scandal of some kind.

When any company become market leader they stop being disruptive and start working to protect the status quo.

Nor did they have anything to do with the "G-lite" standard....(look it up, kiddo)...."a...symetrical" v. "symetrical"...why would that be a contentious idea....netboy?

And lastly, they certainly put the kabosh on the Telcom movement to make the PSTN (public domain)...since the tax payers funded it's development over 50 years and have paid for it 200 times over....correction: still paying for it.....

Yeah, you "expertly" identified it was all about "supply and demand"....not bankster MONOPOLY...

Maybe I'll write a boombox app for the phablet.  It'll be like the old days, late '70s early 80's, when bigger was better and kids walked down the street with a 30lb radio the size of small suitcase on their shoulder.  Turn the bass to 11 and hit the super bass button for extra vibration.

I dont get it when people are talking about innovations within the cellphones.

Is it a innovation that the largest company in the world by marketvalue puts in a fingerprint reader to scan all its users fingerprints?

Somehow I feel anyone, even the least intelligent could have come up with that. Innovation would be creating the first fingerprint reader, but fingerprint readers have been around for many many years. They didnt even develop their own, just bought it straight of the shelfs and implemented it. Magic. lol.

Boraxo works better than Ajax!  Hey for all the uninformed people out there......... California vegitation, prior to the all the peoplesssssssssss, was adapted to an arid climate (not a lot of rain).  Millions of acres of non-indiginous plants have been put into the ground without regard to what kind of plant thrives in California.  Now that all the peoplessssss are using(wasting) water, the non-indiginous plants will suffer.  The plants that belong in California, will continue to thrive.

I mentioned something like that yesterday here.  When companies build these monument HQ's then it is the beginning of the end.  Ditto when they sponsor a stadium like Enron Field.  Not all of them but it usually is a bad omen.   Borland Software imploded after it built a $120 million HQ back in the early 1990s.  It sold recently for $12 million and Borland is long gone.  Prime spot in Scotts Valley, CA too.

i'm ready to go back to answering machines.  i dialed in from a pay phone, hit a small code and got the messages.  for the most part, if i wanted to be with you, or hear from you, i was with you.  and, then, i guess i didn't need to see any pictures of you, or tweets from you.

am i really retarded?  no.  but i have self-confidence and friends.

if i did not know where i was, and did not have a map, i could ask somebody.  sure, i got lost, but if i was on a highway in the middle of nowhere and didn't

know what direction i was going in, i usually had an idea what time it was and could look at the sun or the moon and get an idea of the direction.

and if not, i was probably tripping or totally wasted, so it didn't really matter where i was going to end up, as long as it was away from trouble :)

and it didn't matter much whether i or we were alone, because that was the fact, and we had to deal with it.

having the opportunity to turn on what is basically a t.v. at anytime anywhere doesn't help people.

etc.

it was bad enough that many people were and are stupid.  i-crap only furthers and supports it.
