Stunning Video Of Iceland's Massive Lava-Fountain Lake

Tyler Durden's picture

While Iceland's serene landscape may be the perfect analogy for world markets currently, the eruption of its Bardarbunga volcano shows what fierce reality lies just beneath the surface. Capitalism and free markets will always find away though, and as RT reports, one travel company is cashing in on the incredible awe-inspiring images by offering tours over the volcano at a height of around 150 meters. As the following stunning clip shows, at $920, it may well be the trip of a lifetime...

And finally... mind-blowing images of lava fountains... (coming to the Bellagio soon?)

Whoa, look at all that pollution escaping into the atmosphere....might be some green house gasses there.  We need to report this to the UN so they can impose a fucking tax on Iceland.

Second article about this in the last week.  Interesting, but not exactly a ZH type of article.

Somebody in ZH must have gotten some data from Google that indicated ZH'ers might be interested in this.  I'm a big fan of lava flows and I have NO problem with CO2.  Doesn't mean this is what I want to read about here.

It is all part of the natural carbon cycle. The cycle is what makes earth liveable. Subduction takes fossil carbon into the earth. Volcanoes release it back. Hint, global warming is the breaking of this natural cycle. Carbon that should stay in the earth, is dug up and released. Thus the natural cycle is broken. Of course simple physics is clearly not ZH's strong suit on the comments section. Sadly, you are just plain wrong, and I never feel the least bit worried about pointing it out. In fact, I will go further, global warming is already runaway. Meaning, it will not be stopped. We are 50 years ahead of predictions made a decade ago. So yes, the models were wrong, they were way wrong on the conservative side. Global warming is much more real than 90% of climate science dared admit. Stay tuned, I am 100% sure events will continue to prove me right. So lets revisit this subject frequently. I am more than up for it.

Having lived in Spokane during the Mt St Helens eruption, I can't tell you how incredible it is to drive home in pouring ash in the afternoon in the pitch black. Car after car died around us as we were trying to make it before our did as well. Finally, fearing the worst, we stopped at a college friend's apartment who was a Saudi to, hopefully, wait it out. When he let us in he was laughing at us. " You silly Americans, a little sand storm and you guys are in a panic"

Miffed;-)

On second thought, never mind, I'll try South America first. Or Sierra Leone.

I like seeing underwater images of lava flows into the ocean. Huge steam bubbles form around them, fueled by intense heat released by the flow. But, once the bubbles reach a critical point they start condensing and instantly collapse inward. The surrounding water smacks into itself with the explosive force of a grenade.

Hey look, there’s another analogy to our world economy today.

uea the video of that stuff is AWESOME. cavitation from super pressure steam resulting from the submarine volcanoes is a sonar 'thing' and can be used to define where volcanoes are by sound.

it always amazes me how the vast majority, VAST majority of ALL volcanic activity is below the surface of the earth and yet we know so very little about it. pretty much , once you go beyond a few hundred meters deep, it gets exponentially more difficult to study and observe the oceanic ennironemnet. and it's not so cheap either to study it , even below 5 meters of water.

ultimately, a huge treasure trove of unknown remains to be explored and it can only realistically be explored remoted with unmanned vehicles. we are getting closer and closer to building the kinds of vehicles that can explore the deep at a rapid pace. we're not there yet, as our existing vehicles are expensive and slow, but we'll soon beo getting there.

Seeing this video from the perspective of RT as a propaganda medium, I doubt they would take all the work to go and film that eruption just to show it to their people, looks more like a "warning" or some subtle stuff is going on here.
