You Know It's Bad In Europe When...

Tyler Durden's picture

...more Italian, Spanish, and Greek citizens believe their country is heading in the wrong direction than Ukrainians!!!

Bonus highlight... 62% of Americans are dissatisfied with the way things are going compared to only 36% of Russians...

you just know the USA has to pull its shit together when a country like Bangladesh has a 16% lead on it

actually the ukraine result is probably explainable - im sure there's 10% of them that retain naive delusional hope that the recent CIA fostered revolution will turn out ok. Retake the poll in about 3 months and see how its slipped

I'm pretty sure this chart is bullshit.

Why you ask?

Well Squid, good question. It's bullshit because if it was a good chart, Beglium would be on top where 99% where pretty sure our country is going into the wrong direction as our government already announced that our taxes will rise spectacular and strikes or riots won't change the course they already prepared.

One thing about human nature I have never understood is how come no one ever questions suffering?

For example, I am confident that everyone has heard the phrase "Had it good for too long."

With that in mind, how come NO ONE ever says "Had it BAD for too long"?

Why are we so accepting of letting the future become an ever increasing shittier shit sandwich?

Just a silly question for an increasingly silly world.

I've essentially said that (in a job interview even).  Mouth full of bad teeth, and knocking on 15 years of dead end minimum wage jobs (or barely above, but not for the area).

I can't tell you the number of businesses that have tried to paint a rosy picture of a ladder to climb when being hired, only to discover that to move up a notch, will require waiting 20 years+ for the people above me to retire (who aren't, and won't; since they can't afford to).

The only slice of the american dream I still retain, is ownership of a working vheicle.  I could literally decide tomorrow morning to say, "F**k my crap job, I'm heading for the oil patch."  It seems, increasingly, that millenials have decided to surrender that sense of freedom in exhange for smartphones.  Loss of personal mobility is definately worth being able to be distracted ALL THE TIME.

The only thing I don't get, is why employers are putting up with this cellphone distraction BS.

Two points you should analyse:

1)  Millennials have been notorious for having unrealistic expectations, thinking that promotions are theirs every 6 months.

2)  America might gravitate back to the rest of the world, but that also leaves opportunity for the places moving up to meet the USA.  Find yourself there!

Again "word on the street is those who caught this market wave are cashing out and getting the hell out of the USA."

Granted it's anecdotal but given the whole "4th Reich" mentality these days the go-getters are getting the hell out is an ominous sign for just what this market rally portends once the music stops.

"Love in the time of (economic) Cholera" comes to mind.

You are entitled to your opinion, now I am entitled to mine. If you are an American, then get the hell out and move to Russia or some other place. If you are not an American, then what your view is doesn't matter as much. I'll be the first to say the USA has a lot of faults any more, but by damn, I have no motivation to move and go somewhere else. I believe no polling results from Russia as long as Putin is in power, and it is a typical ZH move to try to rationalize this kind of result as a comparison about how bad the USA is compared to Russia. If things were so great with the Soviets, why is eastern Europe rising in unison against Putin. Putin and ISIS are only the latest bogeymen to justify the defense spending levels, but even so, I have no inclination whatsoever to go visit these places, live there, vacation there, none of it. Glorify Russia all you want, it is still largely Siberia, it is still a Federation formed largely over time by military conquest, but they have no economic or political models I want us to adopt, even with all of our faults. It's cold or snow and ice much of the time there. It may have natural resources, but USA does too.

Putin got away with shit in Ukraine, Estonia will not be as easy a prize. He guarantees a war if he tries to continue to muscle in, many see him as the 21st century Hitler, another invasion(incursion) or 2 should solidify that reputation of him soundly. And if so, ZH will be one of his last remaining proponents.

The Greek are really busy trying to rebuild their society. All sorts of civil organizations are popping up everywhere ranging from soup kitchens to organic markets to organizations that cut out the middle men and that offer fair prices to both producers and consumers. These are grass roots organizations trying to help people. People that are helping themselves and that give a big middle finger to the government revolt more than people that demonstrate outside parliament. Let people themselves run their communities and societies and soon there is no need for a central government.

The Euro-zone is engaged in a talkathon, with fear of an immediate collapse off the table the members of the Euro-zone much like their political counterparts in America just talk about solutions without any action.

For us in America news from across the pond dribbles out in small doses with almost daily media boost of promises that things are about to get better. Now with war a possibility they can only just keep talking. For more on all of "what is not happening" see the article below. The article delves into the way they continue to position themselves waiting for the next crisis.

"The new measures won't bring any improvement for the economy inside the eurozone area and they know it. The economic elites and their political puppets will pursue a 'successful' completion of the experiment in Greece so that to expand it through the whole eurozone and this is their primary target. Empowering the real economy and especially small-medium businesses, reducing unemployment, will be catastrophic factors for the successful completion of the experiment, so these won't happen."

The significance of this chart to me is simply that there are so many majorities in so many countries who think their own governments are getting it wrong.

What does this say about the democratic electoral processes in the first place?

It's probably reasonable to assume that if each country's "other party" had won their last election and were now in power, the numbers would not be too different. Because elected governments - whatever they say during election campaigns - when they win office, they throw away all the election promises and bring out their real agenda. This is no more stark in Western countries than when it comes to foreign and economic policies.

It comes down to governments being given much less power and people having for more control over what they do when in office.
