Russian Retaliation Begins: Gazprom "Limiting EU Gas", Cuts Poland Supplies By 24% In Past Two Days
Update: Bloomberg notes that Russian gas deliveries to Europe are suddenly in accelerating flux.
- Ukraine today received request from Poland to ship 11mcm/d of Russian gas, Ihor Prokopiv, CEO of Ukraine’s pipeline operator Uktransgaz, says in Kiev. Gazprom sent note it’s ready to supply just 7mcm, Prokopiv says
- Poland halted reverse gas flow to Ukraine of 4mcm/d by 3pm Warsaw, later than initially planned, Prokopiv
And yet:
- GAZPROM SAYS GAS FLOWS TO POLAND REMAINING AT 23MCM/D
So all is well on the surface. Just don't look underneath.
Over the weekend, we commented that in response to Europe's latest, and most serious, sanction round which would finally impact Russian energy giants Rosenft, Gazprom Neft (but not Gazprom) and Transneft, "suddenly the stakes for Russia, and thus Europe, just got all too real, as Putin will now have no choice but to really ramp up the retaliatory escalation, which following the food ban can only mean one thing: a staggered reduction in gas flow to Europe."
And while Europe appears to have blown its load prematurely, with the sanctions leaked before Europe actually has the consensus to implement them (it is now a daily threat by Europe which is screaming that it will impose the sanctions any minute yet not actually doing so), Russia has no such moral quandaries and three days following our forecast, here comes Gazprom confirming once again that it is perfectly happy to play the "mutual defection" strategy in the ongoing and ever escalating game theory between Europe and Russia for one simple reason: it has all the leverage.
From Bloomberg:
- RUSSIA LIMITING EU GAS TO RESTRICT REVERSE SUPPLY TO UKRAINE
In other words, this is only the beginning as Ukraine has clearly made the case that it will plug its gas reserve gap using "reverese flow" of Russian gas in transit to Europe. More importantly, this follows news earlier today from Poland’s PGNiG which said Gazprom lowered supply by 20%-24% in past 2 days.
So is this the beginning of the quite literal, ahead of the winter, European cold war? It looks like it, although for now it is all covered up in diplomacy with Bloomberg reporting that the Russian exporter "set volumes of daily natgas deliveries to Poland at level of end of last week due to preparations for heating season in Russia, Gazprom official says by phone, asking not to be identified in line with corporate policy." That, and conveniently Gazprom decided to "carry out some maintenance work at its pipeline system in Russia." Some maintenance work which suddenly saw Poland, which is 80% reliant on Russian gas, receive up to a quarter less Russian gas...
Finally, Gazprom noted that it also has to pump additional 7.3bcm of fuel to local underground inventories for winter in next month.
To be sure, Poland refused to tip its cards, and quickly commented that it won’t be hurt "as its underground storage is full", as was to be expected simply to avoid giving Russia all the leverage, something we also explained previously, when we observed in "Here Is Why Europe Just Launched The "Nuclear Option" Against Russia" that the Europe's 2014 winter war will be between the amount of gas held in European reserves, and how long Russian companies can go without obtaining European funding.
Then again, and once again confirming it is all about leverage, and who has it, Gazeta.ru reports that it took Poland just hours to halt its reverse flow to Ukraine:
Poland has suspended gas supplies to Ukraine in reverse flow. This was stated by the head of the company "Ukrtransgaz" Igor Prokop'ev, reports RIA "Novosti."
"Not everything is so simple. Today, Russia has begun to limit the supply of gas to the Republic of Poland to thwart reverse with Poland, we learn. At two o'clock in Poland ceased to reverse the Ukraine within the 4 million cubic meters ", - he explained the situation.
Earlier Polish PGNiG reported about the reduction of Russian gas supplies by 24%.
Gazprom’s press service declines to provide immediate comments, although none is needed after taking a quick look at the European dependence on Russia gas map conveniently placed below.

Hey Europe, Russia is going to teach you the REAL meaning of austerity!
That's one move intric8 but that's the hole card. That would escalate very big time. Waiting...
Russia won't cut Europe off. What they will do - likely sometime in November, is say
"Ok, from now on we need you to settle 10% 20% 30% 50% (Pick a number) of your gas payments in gold bullion.
"Fair's Fair - A commodity for a commodity.
"Comprehende Amigos?"
This move will only be done in consultation with China I might add.
Intric8 got off the gas now? Its not cold enough yet.
but in other news the ceasefire is holding and negotiations between Russia and Ukraine are going well? DAX up 90 points this morning on this news & Gold and Oil slaughtered
What ceasefire?
it would seem poland needs crushing again.
the nazi must be destroyed in kiev and in poland.
the traction these events have had would of been much less without the talmudic scheming strategems of the pole and the talmudic yidisha
time for these fuckers to freeze
Most of these fuckers are innocent sheeple who trust their (corrupt) governments are in the right. These fuckers are innocent men, women and children who have done nothing wrong except to live in a country whose politicians don't care whether they live or die. The "leaders" will not freeze. The people will suffer, terribly.
it seems you guys talking different languages ...
The Poles have had love affairs with Fascists for a long time - they need to pay for their sins - Instead of screwing with Putin, they need to stick to screwing in light bulbs!
Well then maybe it will be time for those people to do something about it? Was Jefferson only speaking of the American Republic when he referred to the tree of liberty?
speak to a pole
they believe putin wants poland : )
they want to be americans.
the polish grom have provided excellent back bone for the kiev nazi also provided pilots along with israel and romania.
if i met mike tyson in the street i am not gonna swing a punch at him or try to kick him in the bollocks.
i will probably say hello and respect his muscle ability to destroy me totally.
like the russian the poles are a tough race they will cope with the coming chill.
as for the polish grom in ukrainia they need to be bulldozed into the soil for working for monsanto satan
Well true but there is one other crime and that is being stupid which they cannot seem to correct.
The Prussians see the rise of the new Prussian empire, but it appears to be the new rise and fall of the Prussian Reich.
Why am I not allowed to edit?
You had me at Talmudic.
I really don't think people realise what's upon us in the comming months.
Secondly, Russia still holds a lot of cards
1. It sits on enough bonds to crash this weak market and the market is getting weaker by the day
2. It can crash the gold and silver market
3. It can block all the german and other european companies in russia causing another rupture in the stockmarket.
4. Europe is in a very weak spot right now to enter a conflict of any kind so the alliance is very weak. So if Russia approaches some of those weaker players with a cookie, that alliance can break pretty fast.
4. Agreed. It will only take one or two to defect and the flood gates will open.
2. And man I sincerely hope they crash bullion. I could do with a further discount to add to my horde...although I'd probably just go and drop it in the lake again by accident.
Russia don't need to worry, they'll come to them..Moldova first move.
Has anyone considered that this situation is orchestrated?
I mean shit, just connect the dots! There is no direct involvement between Russia and the US, all is done through surrogates, this "thing" is taking place in the last 2 years of BO's presidency, BO ran up our domestic bill to the sky, the EU situation is about the same, the whole world is on a verge of debt collapse and hyperinflation, Ebola threat! etc. etc... How else would you collapse and reset the system? War, economic war with a little conventional weapon domestic war mixed in here and there... what's a few thousand lives - it's not like they're killing millions, huh! It's the only and best solution for BO's handlers and Bankers. They could not do it with China - too strong and can't trust 'em, but, Putin? He's the most perfect partner in this scheme. AND this "thing" is being done through the hands of others: EU, Middle East and China... Sounds like a sweet scenario to reset the financial system without taking the blame for it. I think Putin will collapse the dollar, he's in a perfect position now to do it before the end of this year.
Scary...
Has anyone considered that this situation is orchestrated?
Not until just now...
Read Brandon smith on ZH, he's sure it's all game. Both sides working towards same goal.
December was, and still is, my best guess for the death of the dollar.
Yes it was all planned, but there is no honor among psychopaths.
The doublecrosses will come fast and furious from now on.
But the Bilderberg conference makes it seem the elites are all on the same side. But, then again, like you said, no honor among psychopaths. Interesting times.
WC, Harvey Organ agrees with your assessment.
Whata name. At least it's not Blu.
Mark A., I have thought the same thing, even though it is hard to tell.. However, I think it is TPTB's intention to kill more than a few million.
This old/new respiratory virus HEV 68 in the States is custom made to off 30-40 million oldsters expecting SS checks. If it puts 14 year olds in intensive care imagine what it will do to Grandma..
Who knows? H1N1 was hell on pregnant women and hard on 40 year olds but most of the rest of the population got off easier than the seasonal flu. Sometimes the immune system overresponse is the cause of the severe illness and oldsters are not known for their immune systems. Plus, maybe like H1, their immune system has seen it before.
Good point dolittle, it seems this virus was prevalent in the 60's maybe MiffedB can opine on this subject.. I have a tinfoil suspicion that some infectious agents have been, umm, customized like Ebola's rapid evolution...
I think the best source to get on this would be an infectious disease doc.
Your immune system is stronger if you warded off older variants of the flu. If you have had flu shots then your immune system is not geared for the virus when it mutates and then boom sayonara. Just another clever plan to fulfill the Georgia Guidestone motto. Leave room for nature, leave room for nature.
But if the dollar collapses then America will look like it's been nuked.
Update:
Other people think the dollar will tank by the end of the year, however, they sight different reasons...

"[Russia] can crash the gold and silver market"
Actually, the inverse would expose the soft white underbelly of the US$. The basic narrative is that gold/silver are manipulated and suppressed by the Fed to support the US$ as a safe haven and low risk store of value. The Fed would like nothing more than for PMs to crash.
A rising price for PMs would signal that dollars have less value, perhaps much less value, and would finally unleash the inflation/hyperinflation everyone around here likes to anticipate. There is no question that way too much fiat currency has been flooding the market since 2008. At some point, the inflation beast is going to materialize. You will want to be in PMs before that point is reached.
But with Russia, China, India et al continuing to accumulate physical gold, I wonder what the real impact on the dollar would be if gold were to be bid up to $5k or $10k. The supply of gold for actual delivery must be drying up. Is there a PM price point where the markets dump the dollar en masse and flee to PMs? It strikes me that gold would have to be bid up very high ($50k or more?) to actually have an impact on the very deep market for US$ and treasuries.
None of these "cards" are free for Russia. Anything they could do to "collapse the world economy" would take them with it - and probably do them more damage than anyone else.
"Nothing is free" agreed but with almost zero debt, 146 milllion people, even with rachet down GDP - they are head and shoulders ahead of implosion by UK, USA, EU - all these guys have a major balancing act and populations that need a catalyst for riots
Putin at 80% plus appproval in Russia and high in the rest of world - Obama / Cameron / Merkel / Holland - deep shit!
The Russians will go the gates of Hell for him - who will follow Obama off the 18th Hole???
No street Cred - None!
Watch some current videos of Russia with t he young people, college kids, middle age and seniors. Russia now looks like the USA circa 1950s just slightly Slavic. Good for them. They have had centuries of suffering and maybe they can have some good times in the future.
The USA today looks like a third world shithole.
No gas is one thing, but bribing with cookies?! *drools* Cookie!
Tipping point??

WHAT'S OLDUVAI ?
Olduvai
Infinite growth on a finite planet…
what could possibly go wrong?
Welcome. This blog serves two purposes. The first is to introduce my ‘fictional’ novel series, Olduvai. The second is to highlight current events and essays/blogs/analyses/etc. that tie into the book’s various themes: resource depletion, especially Peak Oil; market manipulation; environmental degradation; conspiracy ‘theories'; increasing loss of liberty; geopolitical tensions; survival skills; and economic collapse.
Occasionally, I share a ‘thought’ (see Cognitive Bias); all other content is provided via other sites/blogs/etc. with links to the original article at the beginning of each post.
"When you’re one step ahead of the crowd you’re a genius. When you’re two steps ahead, you’re a crackpot."
–Rabbi Shlomo Riskin
The title of the book, Olduvai, is derived from the ‘Olduvai Theory’, proposed by Richard Duncan in 1986. Duncan argues that humanity is destined to return to a stone-age way of life with the global loss of the electrical power grid in the not-too-distant future. He used the term ‘Olduvai’ to make reference to the Olduvai Gorge in Tanzania, Africa; this area has been a treasure trove of hominid and pre-hominid fossils made most famous by the multi-generational explorations of the Leakey family.
The book uses ‘current’ events (see Book Topics) to create a fictional tale that has the perfect storm of crises (i.e. damaged environment, dwindling resources-particularly energy, and the implosion of a manipulated global financial system). It documents the social and individual impact of stresses that have overwhelmed the complex systems we depend upon.
"If everyone is thinking alike, then no one is thinking."
–Benjamin Franklin

Often forgotten in these resource wars is not simply whether or not there is any natty gas - but 'how much' will it cost. Anyone 'hoarding' natty gas is going to be raising prices or worse - withholding gas in the EU in hopes of selling it at a higher price later on. Also, we will see the classic 'industry needs' versus 'home heating' needs battle.
But as long as the EU is playing the game, Putin should just demand payment in gold!
Given Cameron's avowed intent to cut Russia off from the SWIFT payment system, Putin should decalre that dollars no longer have any value to Russia and that all future payments must be made in rubles or yuan.
This will leave obummer out on the 13th hole scratching his head wondering how this could have happened.
Excellent observation and timely reminder of human behavior Jose.
Even the appearance of a "possible" gas shortage triggers fears that would likely cause nations to hoard enough to get through. And of course, there will be those who will speculate and hoard the commodity itself in an attempt to make a killing.
This will certainly have a compounding effect on any real or perceived shortage.
It will also put some serious stress on the bonds of "European solidarity".
Europe is now basically in ENERGY RATIONING mode.
In this state of fear all major plans get shelved. Only suvival matters.
Unemployment and food inflation will rise both in Europe and Russia.
RATIONING is for suvival only, not for economic expansion.
That's a very good point. It's not like business will continue as usual while Europe drains its gas reserves.
the invincible Stock and Flow concept
"Europe is now basically in ENERGY RATIONING mode."
LOL. Wait till they're in MONEY ROTATION mode (RUB + CNY + AU)*, to add to their Gasoholic woes.
* I'd make them pay for Gas with a 1/3 RUB + 1/3 CNY + 1/3 AU payment -- to prevent them (ECB and Fed) from playing FX currency manipulation games, and to de-Dollarize on a massive scale. While quietly selling off USTs for real assets around the world.
Here, pull my finger!
p.s. Good luck with that fiat SDR thingy, made up of a basket of fiat USD+EUR+JPY+GBP chits. The BRICS and Developing countries want to be paid in Real Money for their Resources and Sweat.
Russia better not retaliate by invading poland. They have a huge calvary that has been trained better than ever, and a massive cache of extra swords. They are ready this time around.
True ... tho the Polish navy suffered a set back recently when one of their tents sank.
Do you know why the new Polish navy has glass-bottomed boats? So they can see the old Polish navy.
How do you conquer Poland without firing a shot. March in backwards and they'll think you're leaving.
I think that this is getting blown out of proportion.
While it is a proxy action between Russia and US, it will not reach that level. Russia is just trying to make sure that the west pays for anything they get from Ukraine. Ukrain is already like Greece, a money pit.
Does anyone know whether the gas apportionments to Poland go below what Poland themselves needs or do they just cover what Poland is reverse flowing into Ukraine?
I must admit that often I enjoy much the street scenes of the kids acting as if the men with muscles; shouting out loudly, showing up their fists, making lots of noises trying either to get the adult's attentions/make threats/show the strength and so forth.
They are truly wonderful and amusing.
What? This is simply unacceptable! The deal is as follows: we impose sanctions on Russia because it goes without saying that we occupy the moral high ground. Consequently, any Russian retaliation is totally uncalled for.
Jesus, what did the US and the EU ever expect? That Russia will take these sanctions lying down? Especially from nations who have no problem invading other sovereign nations under false pretences?
This is a textbook escalation and I'm curious how much longer Germany is going to put up with this selfdestructive nonsense.
I think US expected that Russia would retaliate. Only way to get those EU pussies to fight is to make them fight. Freeze them to death and the frogs will march. You know of any other way to get europe to fight a major war? We can't take on Russia alone all the way across the world, we needs some EU boyz to die with our boyz and Russia's boyz. Should be fun fighting Russia with China expanding in the s china sea while supplying russia with all the cheap missiles the ruskies can salvo at us. Should be a real good time.
It seems Russian artillery, fired by the militia are very, very effective at finding Ukrainian armor.
Yeah, how's that swivel to the east going to work when the U.S. is already at war with Russia? Seems like the U.S. navy would be needed in the Atlantic to protect supply lines, leaving little to menace China with.
Either as long as she (Merkel) is told to withstand it, or the people of Germany actually get a grip on whats up and do something about it.
The key is 35.7%, we shall see how long Merkel can hang tough without a pivot of some sort.
what exactly happens when the USSA decides to follow ISIS or ISIL into syria?

KIEV, September 10 (RIA Novosti) - Poland has stopped reversed deliveries of Russian gas to Ukraine, the head of Ukrainian gas transport network operator Ukrtransgaz said Wednesday.
“Today Russia started limiting gas deliveries to Poland in order to disrupt reversed deliveries from Poland. At 2:00 p.m. [local time, 11:00 GMT] Poland stopped reversed deliveries of about 4 million cubic meters of gas to Ukraine,” Ihor Prokopiv said.
This is bullish right?

Dear Europe,
Better start canning your farts for winter.
B. Obama
Did Poland pay for the gas they are not getting?
Do they have an agreement restricting resale of gas?
These are legitimate questions.
If they paid for it, then it is no longer Russia's gas to restrict.
If there is no agreement stating they cannot re-sell the gas, then resale is none of Russia's business.
money -goods - money...
Did Europe said sanctions???
Who gives a toss,,when you're reliant for 80% of your energy needs it sometimes pays to speak in a civil manner to the guys that have you by the balls. All the poles have done is shoot off their mouths and stir up shit..let the fuckers freeze.
When someone squeezes balls too hard people get shot. The presumption that the Russian bear is too big and powerful to worry about blowback is the exact same type of arrogance that the US Government has suffered from.
Power is temporary.
It is best to avoid these things.
One aspect of christian philosophy is absolutely correct. If you don't want to receive offenses, you should go to great lengths not to give them - even to the point of turning the other cheek.
I am not very good at that. While I avoid ad hominem, I tend to speak my mind even when I know some will take offense.
You're right in the history of life on Earth, Russia's power (culturally, militarily, economically) for several thousand years and most likely several thousand to come is most certainly temporary.
When they fuck you up though, not so temporary.
Good advice is to not offend Russia.
The saying goes, Russia is never as weak as she appears, nor as strong as she appears.
Well I am certainly not above ad hominem.
You are a colossal idiot; you shit all over the board and demonstrate your ignorance every time you write here. The only "offense" you cause is a direct result of the insulting stupidity of your posts. Fuck your (oxymoronic) "christian philosophy". Now turn the other cheek while I explain some things to you.
You wrote-

No, those are not "legitimate questions". Unless you are a corrupt, thieving country that flat out refuses to pay and has stolen billions of dollars worth of gas and services over a couple of decades, gas is delivered on credit. Ukraine is the rare exception, and was recently put into an unprecedented pre-pay system by Gazprom.
Yes, they have an agreement restricting the re-sale of gas; it is standard fare in these contracts. Try to use your feeble brain to think through the ramifications if these clauses were not in the contracts.
"Power is temporary"
Great unrelated banality there johns. Perhaps that is true, but power can be measured in decades, centuries, or even millennia.
Since "power is temporary" perhaps you should just wait it out huh?
@ fudge

Well said!

Almost nothing in this bankster world is paid upfront in cash anymore. It's all credit.
I'd be curious to know details on the various arrangements between Russia and their gas customers, too. I have no illusions about Putin and Russia, but observing US/EU behavior, I'd expect Russia has been following their agreements and the US/EU have not.
I think your questions are legitimate as well.
If you have relatives in affected countries, it may be a good time to invite them to stay, the winter, with you, in America.
It may, also, be a good time to evaluate the possibility of this bs hitting America and what you need to do to protect you and yours.
America started that shit like always so it will have a portion of shit too. You can't sit in your island this time like you always do.

I wiish I had female Swedish relatives in their late 20's to early 40's. I will consider adoptions. Finnish, Danish and various Baltic state females can also apply. Send pictures - I will send plane tickets.
As far as Poland, Russia sends you gas and you resell it in violation of the contract then you bash the Russians? Sucks to be you.
I think that douchebag Yulla was skimming gas from the Ukrainian pipelines.
As I mentioned, the Ukie-Hunter Biden pipelines are now pretty useless. I hope the Russians pump all their sewage through it directly to Kiev. Preferably to Yatz and Porkys houses plus the other dual citizen oligarchs.
Too funny man!
As I read your post I had a crazy image of Ukies trying to pump gas from the pipelines and nothing but tons of Russian shit flowing out...
..or maybe Poland is banking on el nino...

Victoria Nuland - may the name live in infamy.
She is Victoria Jane Nuland/Nudelman, the daughter of the Yale bioethics and medicine professor Sherwin Bernard Nuland. The late Sherwin Bernard Nuland was born Shepsel Ber Nudelman in The Bronx, New York City, on December 8, 1930, to immigrant Russian Jewish parents Meyer and Vitsche Nudelman.

Right on SD. I think all the war hysteria is part of the psyop.
Remember, Russia has a central bank.
If ISIS was real, then maybe Newsboy's scenario has a chance to happen. But ISIS is a subsidiary of the Mossad. An uncontrolled epidemic is not part of the plan. Ebola will not reach the West until a viable vaccine is revealed. In order to get vaccinated, you'll have to be microchipped, of course.
If ebola is a natural disaster, and not part of the psyop, then the disease will arrive whenever it wants to, in a smoked fruit bat hidden in someone's luggage, or via a very newly-infected person who exhibits no symptoms until he/she has been here for a couple of weeks. Proof that the disease is spontaneous and not part of the psyop will be that it will quickly be evident no-one has a fucking clue about how to control it. If the disease in US/EU is a psyop, almost immediately after an outbreak, a vaccine will have been "developed" and a massive media blitz will be flawlessly orchestrated in order to get everyone vaccinated.
Back to the "War with Russia" meme. This is pure psyop. No-one is perfect. I think the original plan was for Ukraine to become part of NATO as an intact nation. But no crisis is allowed to go to waste. Russia will play her part in this, and everyone's attention will be/has been diverted from whatever is really going on.
The object of the game is CONTROLLED destruction. Systems will not fail until:
1. You have no money.
2. You have no guns or ammo.
3. You have no independent food sources.
4. You are identifiable and trackable at all times.
The time to look out is when all of these controls are in place. Everything else is a distraction and a terror-inducing psyop, funded by those Chosen few. Someone has to do the dirty work. The Superior General watches all developments with great interest.
"3. You have no independent food sources."

"In order to get vaccinated, you'll have to be microchipped, of course."
So!? You get micro-chipped and vaccinated. You keep the vaccination, but remove the microchip. "Allergic Reaction", of course. QED.

Aren't there some international anti-price gouging laws that would prevent this? You know, like after a hurricane when people charge $10.00 for a bag of ice? Asking for a friend.
Hahaha - I really hope you're not serious!!!
Funniest thing I've read all day though!
World War BRRR; Coming to (E)U this Winter!
Switzerland, not included in the stats as usual, gets 20% of it's gas from Russia. The other 74% comes from the Netherlands, Germany and Norway under "long-term contracts".
http://www.gaznat.ch/en/natural-gas/procurement/
Currently not a lot of rhetoric against Switzerland, I guess that will all change when Edward S arrives here.
w/o going too much off-topic, Edward S. would be a fool to come to CH, if he is who he says he is.
agree, he would be taking a big risk to travel...
As long as he avoids using Malaysian Airlines, Polish and Ukraine flyovers, he may be OK if he flies on a Russian diplomatic flight.
The Swiss can't afford to go back on their word. They have no love lost for the US since Ziocons reamed their banks and introduced FATCA.
Putin: I'll pipe the gas, just pay me and tell everyone that I have stopped piping gas.
Europe: Ok. Our pawn in the WH is really making a mess of things. He's getting another Nobel next year.
This world has enough resources to meet the reasonable needs of reasonable people. There will however never be enough for the needs, stupidity, waste and wickedness of unreasonable people, hence the wars and the sanctions.
While I agree that the-powers-that-be are wasting resources through their stupidity, we have to remember that finite resources are, well, finite...

We will run out of energy when the sun dies. Oil/gas is just stored sunlight. There is NO shortage of energy. We just refuse to set up collectors in orbit or on the moon. If we did do it these collectors could then beam this energy to earth in the form of microwaves. Microwave energy could then be used to light hydroponics gardens. Bingo all the energy we could ever want. All the food we would ever need. All the fresh water we could drink(distilled ocean). This idea is not new. I remember reading about it in some old book written 40+ years ago. We have been able to do it since we landed on the moon in 1969. All the little radio transmitters set up on mars/moon do similar now at the micro level. They collect sunlight and beam it to earth as radio waves. So the small scale prototypes have been in operation for 50 YEARS. Wake up to the lie of artificial scarcity. We could if we wished turn Earth into paradise. The sun could in theory sustain hundreds of billions of people living on earth. Plenty of room too. Just build a 100 story sky skraper that covers an area the size of a state. The whole population of the US could live in that one big building. If this was done in a state the size of Wyoming after every one moved in they would still have TWICE as much room as they have now! The other 49 states s leave plenty of room for Nature.
The big building was just an example for clarity. I would prefer many tall buildings spread out.
http://www.wired.co.uk/news/archive/2013-10/02/japan-solar-energy "JAXA is developing a revolutionary" Ha revolutionary my ass this idea is so old most forgot about it.
http://mic.com/articles/91313/here-s-how-much-renewable-energy-it-would-take-to-power-the-entire-world - This could be done on the moon or in space..no clouds to get in the way.
PS I did not hang on to that book...why would I? Everyone then thought the best was yet to come. Little did we know we were at the peak.
Great screen name for the subject,Hephaestus, totally agreed. The one way solar is viable are space based collectors and microwaves, big engineering yes, but, this will work and in many ways would set the world free. The PTB will never allow this might mess up control schemes, never mind..
We spent a trillion on the Joint Strike Fighter Money pit. Why not spend some money that will actually help us?

My friend's wife got her wish: One of those gigantic "school buses". WTF are those things, a Denali, or Suburban, or whatever? Whichever is biggest. Anyway, she just had to have it because one of her sons was prone to throwing tantrums about twice a year, and the existing family van was not quite big enough to put enough space between the kid and seat in front of him, so that he could not hit the seat when he kicked and swung his arms. Problem solved for $40,000 and 13 MPG. Best allocation of resources?
When I was a kid we put all five kids, plus a few cousins in the backseat of a Toyota Corolla. That seat was made for 2 adults.
I remember when no one knew whether there were seat belts in the back because they were used so infrequently that they would get lost in the joint between the seat-back and the seat.
I remember when it was totally normal to put five or six kids in a back seat.
Even after the safety Nazi laws started to arrive in force from new baby-boomer parents, you could still put one kid per seat with seat belt.
I like old cars. I can only fit 2 child car-seats into the exact same phsyical seat that I used to put 5 or 6 of my neices and nephews.
Do people prefer larger vehicles?
Or are they being unintentionally regulated into them?
Well, thank God for global warming. No worries.
this is a no-brainer.
Gazprom had indicated on many ocassions, in the past, that it would not accept reverse flow.
It goes against the contract terms. Poland did not adhere to the contract.
It was not a response to EU sanctions. This is not an RU sanction.
It was a business decision.
When and if the EU sanctions come into play, RU will probably go the 'asymetrical' sanctions route as Medvedew indicated.
Who's next? Slovakia, RWE in DE?
You can almost hear the pumps pulling a vacuum. LOL
Winter is coming
Is it against contract terms?
Well, then Russia is justified.
Not that I don't trust you to know and report contract terms...but how do you know?
I don't have links but I had thought everyone said it wsa not against the contract. That the contract did not cover it?
Asymmetric = Gas paid COD at FOB, in whatever Currency (RUB, CNY) or Gold. Delivery will be via Trucks, Trains or (Danube) Barges.
Given that we are now talking about different Volumes, Prices will be adjusted upwards. Just enough may be sold for EU's own needs, but not enough to cover Kiev's needs. Although the Kiev Junta may be able to afford Gas-by-Truck (via bribable neighbors), the rest of the country won't be able to afford it. Millions will shiver or freeze.
Does Russia sell the Gas at present in US $ or Euros? anyone know?
Brent hits new low $9876 Gold and Silver slaughtered, market says this is a nothing burger
As for Baltic states, we are used to mad Putin regime, that is why we have also gas reserves. For us in Latvia - our gas storage is for almost 2 years. And in the end of this year Lithuania will finish it's Klaipeda liquefied natural gas floating storage and regasification unit terminal - so we simply will buy gas from there.
Move along.
For us in Latvia - our gas storage is for almost 2 years !
And this storage belongs to russians :)
"E.ON Ruhrgas International GmbH" 47,23 %
"Gazprom" 34,00 %
Poor viedoklis.lv ,it's hard to be neonazi
E.ON with SIA "ITERA Latvija" makes 63,23% so it's not Gazprom to deside what to do.
Just check picture in article, or go chop some wood, if there any near u left and i not sold for scandinavians !
Ha ha ha failure to admit your defeat :) that will do.. that will do..
You really make me miss a commenter here who goes by the name of 'milliondollarbonus'. Havent seen him in a while. His justfications for obama's idiocy and contrary rantings against most of us here present as almost overt trolling, but there's a twinkle in his eye the whole time. Dude's agenda is actually hard to figure out, but nevertheless, wish he would pop in more often.
"You really make me miss a commenter here who goes by the name of 'milliondollarbonus'."
MDB is a master in the art of sarcasm. So much so that it goes right over the heads of many. I too wish he'd make more appearances here.
Interesting you refer to the "mad Putin regime". How bout the "mad US regime" The US has destroyed Libya, Egypt, Iraq, Syria, Afganistan and the Ukraine, all within the last ten years... A remarkable "achievement"..... Not to mention sanctions on Iran and Cuba... Did I miss anyone??
We don't live near US oligarch regime, we live next to mad Putin oligarch regime.
Hey buddy, put your Latvian money where your mouth is and stop buying from mad putin and gasprom immediately. You guys should consider yourselves lucky that putin doesnt cut you off tonight. Then speak to us about your infallible two year supply of nat gas.
Putin is selling it's gas not for generosity but because he needs money :)
We are looking from our economic prespective - if this deal suits us, we shall continue it.
I'm sure yuans, rupees and reals will do just fine... Russia doesn't depend on a FIRE economy to survive, unlike the US...
I read that Latvian GDP would be cut in half next year. Do you think things will be the same? GDP isn't everything but your life-style will surely change.
Let me guess, it's some kind of RT (AKA Putin regime "alternative" propoganda channel) who's teling you this :)
According to SEB banka, Latvia's gross domestic product will increase 2.5% this year, 2.7% in 2015 and 3.4% in 2016, as the bank informs in its latest Macroeconomic Review
http://www.baltic-course.com/eng/analytics/?doc=95627
I forget where it was printed. I don't wish bad on Latvia. I cheered for your hockey team to beat Canada. I know, I'm a traitor. And even Canada GDP is going to decrease 5% so we are the best of a bad lot. GDP increases are fantasy but it's just a made up number so maybe it doesn't mean too much.
Serbia (well, OK, that was more than 10 years ago, but it was the beginning of the phase of imperialist expansion we are still in. There is a direct link between the illegal dismemberment of Serbia and our illegal overthrown of the legitmately elected Yanukovich administration.) Also, periodic droning and tomahawking of Somali and Pakistan.
Do you believe that Russia has ever in the past "influenced" the Ukraine elections?
+=yes
-=no
Do you think that Russia should ever "stir up" or even "topple down" the govt of Canada or Mexico?
+=yes
-=no
"the "mad US regime" The US has destroyed Libya, Egypt, Iraq, Syria, Afganistan and the Ukraine, all within the last ten years... A remarkable "achievement"..... Not to mention sanctions on Iran and Cuba... Did I miss anyone??"
It is the muslim sympathizer in chief who has destroyed those middle-east countries.
The Iran and Cuba sanctions couldn't happen to a nicer group of communist and crazy muslim pricks.
The Ukraine... well the west was only doing what Russia has been doing for years, a little less direct than say Georgia.
Nobody ever doubted the Baltics' ability to receive, store, and burn natural gas. Looking through the Lithuanian Energy Ministry's website, the Klaipeda facility looks pretty cool. But you see, it's not a production facility, is it. There's no gas there. The gas has to come from someplace else. "Regasification" implies that somebody else, someplace else, liquified the stuff and shipped it your way, doesn't it.
Sure, Lithuania has a deal going with Statoil of Norway. That's the same Statoil which is warning the EU that interfering with Russian energy sources is going to affect other sources of supply, naturally. I wonder what would happen if Germany, let's just say, says to Statoil, "Hey, we're losing 30% of our NG supply due to this little game with Russia. We'll take everything you can send us, and we don't care what it costs."
I'm sure the IMF and World Bank will be right there to lend you Balts some more money at interest under the condition you turn over the rest of your retirement plans and the deeds to whatever isn't nailed down (and most of what is). Or some more herring and berry jam exports. I suppose your 13-ply birch plywood will become harder ro me to find as you guys chop up your furniture over the winter.
It's hard to whistle past the graveyard when your teeth are chattering. You jumped in bed with the wrong Empire.
I am aware that Lithuania has not found some kind of Gas fields :)
But we can buy from all different kind of suppliers, including EU, US, even Iran if that's necessary for EU to sustain it's economy on track. We put those sanctions on Iran and we can remove them if needed.
http://www.rferl.org/content/iran-says-ready-to-supply-natural-gas-to-eu...
again, stop being a bunch of latvian pussies and sanction gasprom sources immediately. while your at it, add to your list any gas originating from iran because after all, they are part of the 'axis of evil'.
You sound like one of those non-vegetarian, animal rights activists dude
We are pragmatic - if deal suits us - we shall continue it.
We would like to see normal neighbour too, so together with EU countries we are working on Russia :)
It will take some time but ruskies will get that it's not fun to live under Putin oligarch regime and than reforms will happen in Russia and people in Russia will get back their freedom of speech, democracy, etc. It's a pitty that US regime is also under oligarch regime - no good example there.
The Balts may be "pragmatic", some other may just call it "opportunistic",
but can they live up to afford such pragmatism?
Do the Balts (still) have any (real) money beyond the fakes (even for the fakes still need to loan it somewhere) to buy any gas from Iran? By real i mean the phyzz lol
Ask the Ukies; the very first thing the robber barons were doing on Kiev was stealing their gold reserves with the help from their own rats.
Funny as a roadside lutefisk vendor on a hot summer day.
You cannot buy natural gas from US this year, quite possible ever. Iran is sanctioned and the regime in Vichy DC will not allow you to buy from them. As for the EU, well...
Ah, naive bliss. Perhaps you still believe in Santa Claus? The Vichy DC regime sanctioned Iran, and the Europeans obeyed their master and did the same. You will remove no sanctions until told to by Uncle Sam.
But hey, between the lumps of coal you get as a bonus for making Putin=Hitler comments and the lumps of coal Santa Claus will bring, perhaps you can avoid freezing to death this winter.
Here is answer to you from local:
People in cities are screwed. My family heats home with wood and we never had any dependence on gas. That is old school but when you have several forests and storm in October brings down a hundred trees, you will have shitload of wood for your needs. I estimate that it will take 10 years to go through the pile lol.
Now, if I could only figure out how to cut dependence on food supply...any thoughts? We have harsh winters and maybe 3 months of heat.
"You jumped in bed with the wrong Empire."
LOL. "You lie down with Dogs, you fall in with Thieves.. you get up with fleas" - Alan Parsons
Ah riedoklis_mh if you think Latvia's gas wont be appropriated by the others in the EU you will be terribly wrong.
In times of trouble your "Friends" will take away what you think is yours.
You will have a cold ass this winter beside frozen family jewels
Indeed, the shitty little Baltic states are about to discover that members of the EU are all equal, but some are more equal than others (and it ain't them)...
Please explain your theory in more details so that I can put your failure in your face - lets say January.
Go ahead!
Hey Nazi, u can buy it there, no problem. the only small detail: it is 2x more expensive.

http://www.algemeiner.com/2012/03/18/latvia-still-honors-the-biggest-jew...
First of al that is Red Herring Fallacy http://youtu.be/exdK7Lirngg
Second - if you actualy read what you post not only title, than you will read that:
"In the Baltic region, the Holocaust was organized and supervised by a special Operational Unit of the Nazi Security Service Sicherheitsdienst commanded by Brigadeführer Walter Stahlecker. "
So holocaust was organized and supervised by Nazi occupation regime. So? You don't become nazi if you are occupied by nazi and forced to do their commands. Just as we didn't become communists as much as ruskies wanted when they occupied us and kept under USSR rule. You can kill us, you can force us but you didn't break our spirit!
They broke your mind.
Annual gas consumption in the Baltics is 5.4bcm (Latvia 1.5bcm, Estonia 0.7, Lithuania 3.2), while storage capacity at Incukalns UGS is 2.325 bcm of working gas, and cushion gas is 2.145 bcm (which isn't 100% extractable, and doesn't count the .2+bcm that is pumped annually from Incukalns to Russia).
THERE IS NO COUNTRY ON EARTH THAT HAS 2 YEARS OF NATURAL GAS STORAGE CAPACITY AT PRESENT UTILIZATION.
Look at numbers, i said almost 2 years for Latvia.
Apparently the notion of how a business actually operates is above your cognitive capacity. Look at the actual flows from the only facility in the Baltics, it ain't just just for Latvia and it's not just storing Latvia's gas...
On the bright side it won't be the Russians coming to rape pillage and plunder your family if your fantasy of self sufficiency were to be put to the test, it would be Estonians and Lithuanians storming the gates to get their gas back.
You'd have a easier time arguing that the supposed 6,700 tons of gold at the NY FED is the rightful property of the US Federal Reserve, but you don't have the US MIC to enforce any claim on that gas.
