Obama's Broad Coalition Cracks - UK, Germany Won't Support Airstrikes In Syria

Tyler Durden's picture

Well that didn't take long. After espousing his strategy last night of leading a broad coalition against ISIS, it appears President Obama's "allies" are backing away from the plan. As The WSJ reports, Germany and the U.K. on Thursday ruled out carrying out air strikes on Islamic State militants in Syria. It appears the Europeans, realizing the ire that these actions will likely cause to Putin, are stepping back - "We haven't been asked, nor will we do it," German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier told reporters and his U.K. counterpart Philip Hammond explicitly ruled out air strikes in Syria, after the U.K. parliament struck down such a move last year. So that leaves the French?

As The WSJ reports,

Germany and the U.K. on Thursday ruled out carrying out air strikes on Islamic State militants in Syria, a day after President Barack Obama authorized the start of U.S. air strikes there.

"We haven't been asked, nor will we do it," German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier told reporters when asked about German participation in air strikes against the Islamic State, known as ISIL or ISIS, in light of Mr. Obama's speech.

"We need to be honest with ourselves in the current situation, we don't yet have a final, blanket strategy which guarantees that we'll be successful against ISIS and similar groups," the German minister said in Berlin.

His U.K. counterpart Philip Hammond explicitly ruled out air strikes in Syria, after the U.K. parliament struck down such a move last year.

I love the Rainbow Coalition standing behind a despondent Barry. I think I see Reggie there.

I don't buy it. Germany flip-flops on Ukraine constantly. Today must be their "No Syria" day. Ask them again tomorrow. And now that Scotland votes to remain integrated, I'm sure Soros can divert his full attention to fixing an airstrike vote.

The UN should allow Russia and Iran who are allies of Syria to go in and clear this US backed ISIS FSA rabble out for good.

Obama is desperate to begin to strike ISIS in Syria. Why? Well, once the strikes begin, a US pilot will claim to have come under fire from a Syrian position. Then it will be "Game On", the NATO air forces will smash all of the Syrian army to bits, and NATO will step in to take over and istall an Israeli chosen leader to manage the gas pipeline construction, and kill any and all who get in it's way.

The USA knows it is in trouble. They aer going all out to conquer everything they can. Ukraine, Syria are just a warm up.

I think the key is China.  My guess is Putin has told China that they cannot let Syria and Assad fail.

As Dr. Jim Willie has been saying that there is a banking competition for the Yuan bond market and coming Eurasia financial hub in Europe.

It is down to Frankfurt or London and Jim Willie is saying Frankfurt has the edge.   Also there is too much Russian money in London and jobs with Gazprom and the other Russian companies plus the Chinese.

My guess is China and Russia are telling London and Frankfurt - make choice.

Also if Syria has S300 or S400s then NATO's air forces may get mauled.  The Russians are among the best programmers in the world and their new weapons systems are top notch.   The software for the F-35 is still totally F'ed up like obamacare.gov.

That's funny! Heard he wanted $500 mil already to fight the good fight. The blaze photo of him at the press conference with horns coming out of his head is a close second.

Syria, and Russia

“In the absence of an appropriate decision of the UN Security Council, such a step would become an act of aggression, a crude violation of the norms of international law,” Lukashevich said while referring to an announcement by US President Barack Obama on the possibility of strikes in Syria.
