Over 80% Of California Is Now In Extreme Drought

Tyler Durden's picture

Just how dry is California? Here is The LA Times showing every map of California released by the U.S. Drought Monitor since 2011 (the last time there was any drought conditions). More than 80% of California is in extreme drought, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor, and the state's condition isn't expected to improve in the near future; and 100% of California remains at least in drought for at least the 4th month in a row... and it's spreading to the rest of the nation.

In 10 seconds, the devastation of the last 3 years...

Source: LA Times

As 100% of California has been in drought for at least 4 months...

And it's spreading...

It's bad people!!

Besides your infection also eatchur asparagus, lettuce, avocados, tomatoes, strawberries, raspberries, beef, pork, chicken, turkey, dairy products, corn, beans and whatever else it is that you like, for as long as they're affordable or available.
The state whichever water whatever it is (we gots a whole buncha overlapping water thugs fucking things up, royally) just announced day before yesterday as a matter of fact, that while the northern and central parts of the state have decreased water use buy 5% to 10%, LA and San Diego have increased by some 10%.... Hah!
Them fuckers only use water down there for car washes, pools, yards and wet teeshirt contests because they steal it from the northern and central parts of the state.
Rationing and price controls, deluxe.

BTW, they grow most of the state's infections in LA and SD.  Huh....

Meanwhile, thousands of miles away:

"The water level of Lake Superior is up 1" in the last month (at a time when the lake often loses water) and is now up 8" in the past year. Superior is now 7" higher than the long-term average water level. The water level of Lake Michigan/Huron (one lake for lake level purposes) is up another inch in the last week and (drum roll) the water level is now one inch ABOVE the average September lake level! Get this…Lake Michigan/Huron is now 19 inches higher than it was one year ago, an unprecedented 12-month increase! That’s a gain of 7.41 trillion gallons of water in just 12 months. Lake Huron has gained 7.6 trillion gallons of water in the past year, Lake Superior 4.4 trillion gallons and Lake Erie 1.02 trillion gallons. That’s a total gain of 20.4 TRILLION gallons of water to the Great Lakes in just 12 months! Lake Erie is 6" higher than it was one year ago and 6" above the average water level. Lake Ontario is unchanged in the last year and 3" above the average water level. Lake St Clair is up 11" year-to-year and is 7" above the September average level. Quite the opposite from this article (press release) that came out only 2 1/2 months ago."

What can congress due to address such inequity?

There was a time about 80 years ago that the United States would put millions to work building aqueducts to alleviate droughts.  A canal from the Missiissippi to Arizona would prevent flooding in Louisiana and supply water all of New Mexico, Arizona, West Texas, and Southern California.  Water from the Columbia could be run South to California.  Giant wind power plants could desalinate water along the coasts.

Instead we give trillions to the banks and wage wars overseas. Sad.

Cynicism can only be replaced by trust and I wouldn't expect that.

Thanks.

I take you up on the offer. My response was meant to be playful to your reference as I'm sure you surmised. A Molon Labe of a gentle sort. ;-)

Trust is something that must be earned. It is only given out flippantly by the foolish to their own detriment. I am honored by your characterization of who I am. I assure you I strive to represent myself here honestly and not hide behind a facade as some do. I accept this may be offensive to some. Que sera.

I have found those who don't profess to have value often have more than those who endlessly proclaim their worthiness. Most are distracted by the sound and fury but their ramblings often signify nothing. I like to seek out the man hiding in the shadows observing the spectacle and knowing his mind. There is where the sparkle is found.

A bientot,

Here are some "It's so dry in California" jokes.....

It's so dry in California my girlfriend is thinking about leaving me for a wetback.

It's so dry in California we're limited to topping-off our Olympic-size swimming pools to just 3 times a day.

It's so dry in California they're rationing wet vaginas.

It's so dry in California we have to pee at least 1.5 gal in the toilet tank before we flush.

It's so dry in California when you go to a restaurant the waiter expects a bottle of water for a tip.

It's so dry in California the cartons of wine are filled with pearlite.

It's so dry in California when your house catches fire they throw water baloons at it.

It's so dry in California the fruits and nuts are dehydrated to the point of not even being able to carry an abnormal conversation.

It's so dry in California when you go to the barber they lick the comb before running it through your hair.

It's so dry in California when people spit on the sidewalk they get fined for wasting water.

It's so dry in California The Governor just declared a state of triple sec.

It's so dry in California all the pot farmers are required to water using reclaimed meth lab chemicals.

It's so dry in California Alcatraz Island is now accessible via freeway.

It's so dry in California when people jump off the Oakland Bay Bridge they really leave a lasting impression.

It's so dry in California car radiators are required to recycle their escaping steam.

The Big C could go on here but I'm afraid too many down votes could overwhelm the servers.

Went back to visit wife's family in the redneck riviera.  (first we spent some time in Orlando.)

Drove from Orlando to Overstreet on what is still basically a two lane road through various shithole towns through mile after mile of planted pines.  (like cornrows...monotonous after a couple hours.)  Made the split in Perry and took 98 up.  Slong stretch crossing the Suanney River we encountered a rainstorm that dropped five inches per hour (and a tornado).  The rain lasted for two hours, and the van was physically pushed down from the flow.  It was so heavy there was no visibility and the best speed I could make was 5 mph...for two hours.

Always hated Florida.  I'm a desert kid, rain is supposed to be a rare treat where you run outside to stand in it.

Wet here in my corner of IA, talking record wet. Never in my lifetime have I had to mow my lawn twice a week this late in the year. Usually they start to get stressed mid July. Shit all be green here. Record crops again this year I would guess. It's like a friggin paradise here in the Midwest compared to many other regions.

Hell bells the Black Hills in SD had snow last night. Was there only six weeks ago in record heat. This is a goofy ass year for the climate here.

The real story is the current "crisis capitalism" water grab by the state - hereby taking control of all underground water pumping.

This is the biggest revision of water rights since 1913.

It is a huge deal in that the state will effectively make it too expensive for mom and pop farmers to dig more wells or even go deeper.

The corporate farms however will be able to kill their competition, deflate the prices of land without restricted water and then come back with a larger control of the market in better years.

People like to joke about Democrat controlled Kalifornia and they are right to do so, but in these matters the state and national party is acting more like Italian Fascists and Chinese Maoists - all for the benefit of The Corporate.

You won't be laughing when you will be required to prepay for monthly metered water and a salty watermelon costs $50.

Newsflash. Very few in thier right fucking mind will be paying $50 for a watermelon. If corp farms think otherwise they will shrivle up like the rest of the mom and pops. We quit eating apples from the grocery store because I refuse to pay close to 50 cents for a fucking apple. Will just stick to the less tasty versions that grow in season here.

Cali is on its way to a population of 50 million or more.
3rd world people are NOT into conservation, ecology, so enjoy the future.

Overpopulation in the United States will become THE single greatest issue facing Americans in the 21st century. We either solve it proactively or nature will solve it brutally for us via water shortages, energy crisis, air pollution, gridlock, species extinction and worse.

U.S. population will double from 300 million to 600 million on its way to 1 billion in the lifetime of a child born today if we fail to change course.(2000)

Looking at those graphs, one thing in particular really stands out. Yes, Southern California is basically a desert, but the south eastern part of So. Cal. is usually "tumbleweed rockfarm" dry.

Based on those graphs, the coastal and southeastern regions have completely reversed rainfall patterns. That's a scary scenario, especially if the trend continues for a few more years.

Sure you can.  You drop a 10" well 1300 feet and hit water.  You pump it up into a tank and let air pressure feed the house or gravity feed the irrigation.

Used to be a lot of windmills our here pumping water.  Over time it went electric.  Now we're seeing more electric power windmills and solar panels near wells.  Water is still there, you just had to go deep enough and be at the right place for good water.

Just checked a couple weeks ago at a former mine near my dad's place.  It's still flooded. There's still water available in the desert...a lot of water.  You just need to be near mountains so the underground flow is to your area.

Most of those water hazards on golf courses are actually resevoirs.  They pump the water out to water the greens and the water seeps back to the hazards.  Works until less and less seeps back.

Hold the fucking phone, the desert states are suffering from a drought. My god what are they going to make sand castles with? Piss?

Maybe Nevada, Arizona, Utah, New Mexico, Western Texas, and California were never meant to support the millions of people living there. Or at least not support them with running tap water, swimming pools, gardens, and lush green lawns.

When I see shows that feature the suburban sprawl of Las Vegas I laugh hysterically. They made it look like you are driving around south Florida. In Vegas you are a tool unless you have at least ten palm trees on your lawn.

Shut off the water to the fools that thought it would be a good idea to move to a desert and shower every morning.

An interesting correlation appears in the graphic featuring one drought map per week.

The first red area appears in mid August 2013. This is about the same time that the attempt to frame the Syrian government with a false flag chemical weapons attack was prepared and executed.

The red area stays about the same size until late November 2013, when it blobs up in size. This is about the same time Ukrainian president Yanukovich declined to sign the European Union association agreement, leading to protests in Kiev which were co-opted by Nuland's Cookie Monsters.

The first dark red area appears at the end of January 2014, just as the Kiev protest becomes violent and people start dying.

The dark red area then blobs up in late February 2014, as the US-sponsored Yatzi junta violently overthrows the elected Ukrainian government.

The dark red area slowly continues to grow until late July 2014, when a sudden major blobbing up occurs. As you recall, the second half of July brought both the MH17 incident and a major offensive by the Kiev punitive forces in the Donbass. If I'm not mistaken, this is also around the same time that ISIS was trotted out as the menacing casus belli du jour.

Of course, we all know that correlation is not causation. I just thought it was an interesting coincidence.

California can solve the drought the way BLS solves inflation.  They'll just make this the base year, for rainfall and then all the other years look not so bad.  Oh, I have an idea about setting the base year for the CPI to the year 2025.  Its going to be awesome looking back at all the deflation we had this year and how average the rainfall was.

I've been hearing that the drout extends beyond to California to the middle of the country too. Oddly, the 2 places in the USA that produces the most food seem to be under drout. I wonder if all the chem trails they sprayed had anything to do with it. Chem trails have tapered off over the last 6 months (at least in my area). I know it sounds all conspiracyesque, but if they're using geoengineering to manipulate the weather, they can ensure it doesn't rain, ensure food isn't gonna grow, ensure water is in short supply and well, what kind of profits can people like T. Boone Pickens make selling us their water? Selling farmers water that need it? Then they can force food prices up. I know it might sound crazy, but I think this drout has been engineered, I think it's been set in motion by using chem trails. Barium, Strontium and Aluminium Oxide. Only a small handful of people on the planet actually know what large amounts of that stuff in the atmosphere will do.I think this drout has been engineered on purpose, but hey, some people think I'm weird.
