Russia Responds To The Latest European Sanctions: "You Leave Us No Choice"

Tyler Durden's picture

As usual, every European snaction (sic) has an equal and opposite Russian reaction. Here is how the Russian Foreign ministry responded to what van Rompuy announced earlier today would be a new round of Russian sanctions, which wil finally be enforced tomorrow. First from the Russian foreign ministry:

  • BY PASSING NEW ANTI-RUSSIAN SANCTIONS, EU EFFECTIVELY MADE CHOICE AGAINST PEACE PROCESS IN UKRAINE - RUSSIAN FOREIGN MINISTRY'S STATEMENT

And from Russia's European ambassador:

  • NEW EU SANCTIONS AGAINST RUSSIA LEAVE RUSSIA NO OTHER CHOICE BUT
TO GO FOR CERTAIN COUNTER-MEASURES - RUSSIA'S PERMANENT REP TO THE EU
    CHIZHOV
  • EU SANCTIONS AGAINST RUSSIA DEVOID OF ELEMENTARY LOGIC, COMING SIMULTANEOUSLY WITH DE-ESCALATION OF UKRAINIAN CRISIS - RUSSIA'S AMBASSADOR TO EU CHIZHOV

Below is the official statement, Google-translated:

In connection with the statement of the President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy from September 11 regarding the introduction of a new package of anti-Russian sanctions, we can state the following.

By taking this step, the EU has actually made a choice against the peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian domestic crisis, whose support was expected of all responsible powers in Europe.

Today Brussels and heads of EU member states should give a clear answer to the citizens of the European Union why they put them at risk of confrontation, economic stagnation and the loss of jobs.

And the punchline:

Finally, give peace a chance.

So Obama channels Dubya and Putin channels John Lennon. The New Normal sure is strange.

As a platform for launching extremely hypersonic nuclear armed missiles back to the earth,

I'm going to guess 'YES.'

Not o mention:

"To date, the International Space Station has cost as much as $160 billion, with the United States providing the bulk of the money — nearly $100 ..."

I know, I know, it's just Monopoly money.  But those Europeans take it so seriously.....

Is an extremely hypersonic nuclear armed missile really much faster than a hypersonic nuclear armed missile? If you can prove that point, I might have to cut you some slack on your comment.

Well, because it is launched in zero gravity, it probably doesn't need a blast stage and second stage (I'm not a rocket scientist, Canuck) which means that it enters the earth's atmosphere at a greater speed than, let's say,  the NASA Space shuttle, which was traveling so fast it needed heat shield tiles.

A hypersonic nuclear armed missile launched from terra spends a lot of its trajectory working against aforementioned gravity.  It is only in its final stage that gravity is working for it.

A hypersonic nuclear armed missile launched from a space station is assisted by gravity from the get go.

I just saw this at RIANovisti

In 2009 another decommissioned Kosmos satellite moving at over 40,000 kilometers an hour (26,000 miles per hour) collided with a US Iridium telecom satellite in the first ever high-speed crash between two manmade objects in space.

Do you consider 26,000 miles an hour extremely hypersonic, for apparently that's how fast satellites, space stations and missiles inside space stations, are travelling in orbit.

(Btw, please don't cut me any slack.  I won't have anything to do)

Honestly, I don't get this... ceasefire is largely holding and Russian troops largely removed from the East (as confirmed even by Poroshenko...) yet they go ahead with the new round of sanctions?! WTF is going on here? Has Europe gone completely nuts?!

2) They are reasserting who has the whip hand.

3) Other bullshit reasons.

The Russian troops that have now 'left' are the Russian troops that no-one could find any evidence of, apart from a few handfuls of them, before.

The main reason for the anouncement could be that the Ukrainian soldiers believed the Russians were there and thought they had no chance. Now they have gone they may think they can win. They may be in for a shock.

There is a view out there that one of the reasons why the Militia started doing so well was that they received an influx of trained soldiers from Russia, but they were Ukrainians not Russians, Ukrainians who had joined Russia after the Crimea vote plus large numbers of ex Ukrainian Army NCOs and officers who were either purged or left when faced with the choice of working in a failing army, their own, or a proper army, the Russians. Many said that they recognised who they were shooting at and had enough, so took their equipment plus any of their soldiers who wanted to, over to the Militia.

This war is about the US economy. The US is like that friend you all had that always borrowed from everyone and never gave anything back. Eventually you got sick of it and said no. And in return he forgot all the times you had been nice and got angry with you. I think it is time for the EU to back off. And the next time they meet with Obama, they should take two steps back and check if they still have their wallet.

All Russia has to do is to wait 3 more weeks then demand full payment from Ukraine for the Gas Debt and a pre Payment for the gas for the next 3 cold winter months. When the Ukraine cannot pay then close down the pipeline. EU will go cold and dark. Putin will not turn it on again until the NATO forces have pulled back in Germany.

Thu, 09/11/2014 - 15:08 | 5207724 localizer
localizer's picture

Several problems with this scenario for the Russians:

1) EU has stocked up quite a bit of gas for this winter so they may largely survive (also it's not so easy technically to just turn off the gas completely)

2) This would mean massive revenue drops for the Russians which is vital

3) This will even speed up the alternative import routes for the EU, which Russia is not interested in

So I think turning the gas off is really not in Russia's interest unless things go totally out of control...

Thu, 09/11/2014 - 15:27 | 5207836 ctiger
ctiger's picture

if EU has stocked up on gas, that means they have already paid or are in the process of paying for it, the revenue stream just changed but the total revenue is still the same. The war in Syria is about alternative import routes. When Assad refused to let the Qataris run their pipeline through Syria, that was enough for the US to initiate the regime change it is famous for. Russia upset the plan when they backed Assad rather forcefully. This infuriated the US and led to the Ukraine debacle we are now seeing.

I'm inspired, outraged and encouraged all at the same time! The Zionists are encircling Putin and trying to break up Russia, however it seems that the people there know exactly what is going on and about to start flashing out all this dirt out of their country.

This guy Mozgovoi is a friend of Stelkov.  His 1000 fighters are called the Ghost Battalion because Kiev has said they have been wiped out many times.  An honorable man who was not a soldier and is treating the captured or surrendered Ukie conscripts with dignity.  He is right on the mark in saying that if they do not remove the oligarchs and the corruption from the Ukraine then nothing matters.  He is inspiring.

Mozgovoi and Strelkov are real men. The US Military and Pentagon are filled with Obama/NWO lap dogs and scum. Amerika has traitor scum like General Betrayus and other vermin.

Russia's got the cure, will be administering it very soon - 10 straight months of severe economic pain and freezing cold, and viola! Cured!

Symptoms of the Patagonia-orrhea:

1. Severe pain while euro-nating.

2. Victims pee themselves all over, and over again

3. Burning, itching desire to please their Patagonia Dominatrix

4. Running sores on their Gentiles (Israelis are immune)

5. Intellectual sterility

This shit is getting ridiculous.

Joe Rogan raises an interesting question. Why does it need to be a Military Industrial Complex? Why can't we have a Make The Country Better Industrial Complex? Isn't there a way oligarchs could make billions by fixing the roads, creating nation-wide cell phone coverage, and upgrading everyone's internet to 100mb fiber? Why does money always need to be spent on things that don't make anyone's life better?

I've asked this before, but at the risk of being repetitive I will ask again. Is there something in the European soil that turns people into complete idiots? You would think that after a few centuries of fucking with Russia and getting their asses handed to them on a platter, they would learn. But, alas, no. Let's screw with our number one provider of energy and see how it turns out this time.

Putin won't cut gas to Europe.

He'll create barriers against European products that compete with Russian-made.

Recently I read this article on autoblog: http://www.autoblog.com/2014/07/28/global-automakers-shutter-russian-pla...
Now, Putin wants to ban imports of European cars.

For an automaker to manufacture locally, two elements need to be in effect: for one, the market needs to be large enough to justify it, and for another, importing has to be too expensive to make it worthwhile. Many automakers have found both those elements in place in Russia, but may not for very much longer. According to Ward's, changing conditions in Russia could spell the end of local production in the world's largest country. On the one hand, the market is shrinking, while on the other, import duties are dropping.

The market for new cars in Russia fell by six percent in May when compared to the same period last year, leading analysts to predict a massive drop by 26-30 percent over the course of the year. If the decline continues apace, the market could drop from 3.6 million projected new-car sales in Russia to just 2.3 million by 2018. Meanwhile, Russia's obligations to the World Trade Organization mean that import duties on cars manufactured abroad will have to drop from 25 percent to 15 percent by 2019, making it less expensive to sell imported cars in Russia. At the same time, government incentives for manufacturing locally – whether by local or foreign automakers – may drop in the years ahead thanks to a weak ruble and the spiraling cost of Russia's invasion of the Crimean peninsula, according to the report.

Analysts expect that, as a result, vehicles produced locally by foreign automakers could drop from 52 percent of the current market to 26, while imports rise to 67 percent – the difference presumably being taken up by Russia's own domestic automakers, which have apparently dwindled to a small proportion of the market. Despite the forecast, however, foreign automakers like PSA, Renault and BMW may still find it advantageous – if only for the shipping costs – to manufacture locally for the Russian market. If present conditions continue, however, we can't help but wonder for how long.

BMW, Mercedes, Audi-VW, PSA, Renault and Porsche will not be happy.   Also they risk fiing up China too.  China will just clone and rip it off.   So China is a lower margin business and the European car companies will get screwed.  The Russian market is a good market and is growing rapidly.  The German companies will be enraged by this.  They are going to get screwed.
