China Daily: "Western Sanctions Will Make Moscow Back The Chinese Yuan Against The Dollar"
Op-Ed posted in China Daily
West's Antics Pushing Russia closer to China
The recent NATO summit in Wales, held against the background of the armed conflict in Ukraine, has brought back the Cold War atmosphere to Europe. NATO's partnership with Russia remains formally suspended. In fact, NATO is treating Russia more as an adversary than a partner.
The alliance is setting up a "Rapid Reaction Force" to deal with emergencies on Europe's eastern flank. The alliance's military infrastructure is moving toward that exposed flank, and closer to Russia's borders. NATO forces will now spend more time exercising in the east, and their presence there will visibly grow. NATO-leaning Ukraine, which the alliance alleges is an object of "Russian aggression", has been promised financial and military support.
The Ukraine crisis is not just about Eastern Europe, it is also about the world order. The Kremlin is seeking Washington's recognition of what it regards as its core national security interest: keeping Ukraine as a buffer zone between Russia and the West, particularly NATO. Washington, on principle, denies Moscow this "imperial privilege", and insists on the freedom of all countries, including Ukraine, to choose alliances and affiliations.
The stakes are high. Should Russia be rolled back in Ukraine, not only will its international position materially suffer, but also the power of the Kremlin inside the country might be dangerously undermined. On the other hand, if the US were to eventually accept Russia's demand for a "zone of comfort" along its borders, Washington's credibility as the global dominant power, the norm-setter and arbiter will suffer.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization, of course, is no military alliance, and even less a rival of NATO. Its member states, however, are closely watching the US-Russian match being played out at the western end on the great Eurasian continent. Some, like the Central Asian states, are essentially ducking, hedging, or running for cover. China, which seeks to defend its own core interests in East Asia and the Western Pacific, looks at the current Russian-American competition through the prism of its own relations with Washington and Moscow.
China has a very important relationship to keep with the US. Playing a long game, Beijing usually avoids direct collisions with Washington, and means to profit from the US-initiated globalization to the fullest extent possible. Like Russia, however, China would also want to carve out a comfort zone for itself along its eastern borders and shores, and, like Russia again, it faces the reality of the US' physical presence and US-led alliances there. What Washington is now doing in an effort to contain Moscow in Eastern Europe provides important information to Beijing in East Asia.
There is more to Beijing's reaction than just watching and drawing conclusions. The apparently long-term rupture of Russia's relations with the West offers an opportunity to the Chinese leadership to enhance its already close relationship with the Kremlin and thus turn the global geopolitical balance in its favor - not unlike former US president Richard Nixon and former secretary of state Henry Kissinger who reached out to Chairman Mao Zedong in 1972. The Russians, angry with Washington, are now more amenable to giving China wider access to their energy riches and their advanced military technology. The Western sanctions pushing Russia out of the international financial system are also making Moscow more ready and willing to back the Chinese yuan against the US dollar.
A Sino-Russian military alliance against the US is still a rather long shot. Yet the two countries' political, economic and military alignment is getting thicker. An expellee from the G8, which is now back to G7, Russia is now eagerly embracing the non-West, particularly in Asia and Latin America. Within the non-West, China is unquestionably the premier power. Managing Russia will not be easy for anyone, but the country is a precious resource for China. So far, Beijing has displayed more tact in dealing with Moscow than any other major player in the world. Building on this success, it can now set its bar higher.
To a China which is rising and raising its global profile, BRICS is an asymmetrical equivalent of the G7, albeit in a very different shape and form. The SCO, to use a similar analogy, is an asymmetrical analogue to NATO, but as a political organization of continental Asia (including Russia), rather than a military bloc. The inclusion of India and Pakistan into the SCO is a logical next step. Iran, currently an observer, can follow later. Turkey, an SCO dialogue partner and a member of NATO, can become a useful link to the North Atlantic alliance.
Enhancing the SCO's security credentials and extending its reach requires a major qualitative upgrade of China's strategic thinking and diplomacy, and an even closer partnership with Russia. The SCO summit in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, will probably not see this yet, but it might become a point when the balance of Eurasia has decisively turned in China's favor. Beijing would need to thank Washington for it.

Indeed, "thanks Obama" for firmly cementing the anti-western military, monetary and political alliance.

Obama is so smart, e can drive is own golf cart!
Welcome to the BRICS century.
Gee, I wonder why Washington never thought of that? Desperation perhaps...
Look at all these new and strengthening alliances around the globe. Neighbors helping neighbors. It fills me with hope and pride in humanity....<sniff>.... I'm sorry, just,.... I just need need a minute.
@NoDebt You wouldn't be sarcastic, now would you? AND GET RID OF THAT RIDICULOUS NAME, IT DOESN'T SUIT THE TBTF AND TPTB!! (Yes, I've grown to love acronyms).
The way I see it, the problem is not so much that the likes of Russia and China are suddenly getting that much better and nobler, no it's us over here becoming completely clueless at an astonishing pace. Self destruction in 3, 2, 1...
Now it's back to the kitchen with me, I'm cooking Thai chicken for the first time in my life, orders of the wife. Wish me luck.
Well, Duh!
Using capitalistic exclusion as a "punishment" robustly drives the development of less parasitic alternatives.
Nobody should feel secure.
Wheres that domino video when you need it?
According to Harvey Organ, the dominoes begin falling in Q4, 2014... He has an interesting take on short-term metals futures...

I'm looking forward to the "shocked and disappointed' speech when what we all know what is coming finally arrives.
This is another step closer to global thermonuclear war.
Bunker I'll be there soon. I just hope the people at the top who did this pay someday.
You take a mortal man
And put him in control
Watch him become a god
Watch peoples heads a 'roll
A 'roll, a 'roll
Just like the pied piper
Led rats through the streets
We dance like Marionettes
Swaying to the symphony of destruction
-Megadeth, Symphony of Destruction
SWAT is on the way, those lyrics are very offensive and deemed a threat to national security.
It's for the childrens saftey,

Blowbacks a bitch, bitchez!

The west's desire for war is palpable. These have got to be some of the worst decisions ever made, as well as unnecessary. Sorry Ukes, but you should be on your own...

Wow the information on the existing inventories vs compsumtions if accurate is some scary shit. After watching it some serous money can be made with very limited down side.
I only take exception to your use of "Capitalistic".
What we are watching is good old fashion Sorority/Fraternalism. Punishing the girls who don't want to be in your club of self appointed righteousness.
Thai chicken, huh? Does it cluck in a foreign language? :>D
The "West's" actions are not just pushing Russia to China, they're pushing Everybody away form the US dollar, US alliances, US banking system....
If you didn't know any better you'd guess this was planned .....
I don't know any better
Seems to me that's the plan... Collapse everything into a pile of smoldering shit, from which the NWO rises like a Phoenix... These people have been listening to their own drivel for so long they actually believe it...
Seems to me that they are pulling every dubious and desperate trick in the book to avoid collapse now, no matter how much this increases the possibility of trouble down the road.
But that's just the evidence of my own lying eyes.
Coupled with this is my recognition of the fact that China has passed the point of apogee in its career as the workshop of the world. Anybody who buys a variety of manufactured proucts knows this to be true. A demographically destroyed, economically collapsing, rabidly racist/nationalist dictatorship is not going quietly into the night but the United States will prevail, is in fact already prevailing, over its pretensions towards global dominance. The kaiser, the fuhrer, the emperor and the politburo all found out about the perils of dealing with the soft, degenerate Americans.
Avoid collapse? This is the orchestrated plan for them to transition of power and wealth from one part of the world to their new control centers on the other. They have raped and pillaged the West and now it is time to move on to the new host.
there comes a time in an empire's history where everything they do and say accellerates their destruction.
"It's one big shit sandwich and we're all gonna have to take a bite."
You guys are right on the money and I feel like a complete dickhead for believing the crap so long.
At least my two teenage kids are growing up not believing the bullshit and plenty of younger folk are waking up to this fact as youth unemployment goes through the roof.
Yep. The global hegemon has no choice but to continue to act like a global hegemon, even when its hegemony has quite obviously expired. Acting otherwise would merely be admitting loss of hegemony, which would accelerate the process.
I must add, though, that the efforts to make Obama look like he matters on the world stage are damned entertaining.
You must be more evolved than me. The efforts to make Obama look like he matters annoy me no end. When he did his little ISIS number, he huffed and puffed and, dammit, he is too wimpy to be believed even if we did not know he had empty words and an empty hand.
The guy needs testosterone or some confidence building courses. I am certain I am more threatening seeming than he is.
"The guy needs testosterone or some confidence building courses. I am certain I am more threatening seeming than he is."
You mean, you want him and his minions to look even moar like downright psychos???
If an actor wants to play a role, I want him to be believeable! I am annoyed when they put him and Biden up there to rant and rave at ISIS. They look like the Inbred Meterosexual Douche Brothers. That's what you got out there representing our part of the farce? Aw man! That's all we got? So fucking sad.
Ms,
I am simply beyond annoyance. It was a deliberate choice...well not a choice, really, more of a matter of personal survival. These guys are such obvious sociopathic clowns, and the system is so obviously irretrievably broken, that getting upset about it no longer serves any purpose other than self abuse.
Don't forget to save yourself.
Ms, that guy is a gay, a gay chief so of course he lacks of testosterone!
Realizing that your perspectives were completely skewed over most of your lifetime is a humbling experience. I used to buy into the Jew-centric Western superiority thing. Awakening was a process that was sparked by an event that created cognitive dissonance and led to my questioning my premises.
Most people have the capacity to see reality. They are blissfully ignorant and will remain so until they have their awakening moment. As our credit based money system goes further into collapse, things that most took for granted will cease to function. Their very survival will require that they think for themselves and reject the mainstream paradigm.
As I am fond of saying ....even sheep will bite when being pushed onto the killing floor.
Funny how taking the red pill changes your perspective on reality forever...
I'd suggest the west is setting Russia up, China is working to set up the infrastructure before it takes a big fucking bite out of eastern Russia.
China is no friend to Russia regardless of what people seem to think. china is much more schrewed than it gets credit for. In a massive war it'll side with the west and take large chunks of land and resources from Russia.
This isn't a matter of Obama being an idiot, he was never in charge in the first place.
Schrewed? Unbelievable. Shrewd? Screwed?
Thank you spellcheck.
You forgot one thing.
A still very large nuclear arsenal.

Gold is getting manipulated and crushed in order to force China and Russia's hand as they are large holders of physical gold. This recent tankage MAYBE the last time you can get gold for cheap before the spike to much higher levels.
This recent strength in the USD already shows that the US still holds way too much power in dictating and manipulating hard asset prices such as oil and gold. This is definitely going to expedite China and Russia's move to remove the USD as reserve currency status, which we are now witnessing in earnest.
I wonder why they wouldnt rather dump treasuries and get the party started than watch the price of gold be manipulated? Cause they're not done buying? I hear they have enough tonnage for the new reserve currency. Would be nice if suddenly we could not afford a war against ISIS.
Good question but I think selling the Treasuries will be the ultimate last resort....basically that will be the moment WW3 will probably start...right now they are just moving the chips around in position just in case that outcome materializes...dont think nobody wants WW3 to happen, except the people in charge (US, NATO)
Oh nice...Lack Jew just deepened Russian sanctions...what did you expect from a zionist lacky like him.
With Russia's natural resources would not any new reserve currency be backed by a basket of commodities including gold? The US dollar is not back by nothing. It is actually backed by a lot - gold is not one of them as we well know.
Agreed. The USD is backed by the MIC.....
The idiot who red-arrowed you has some 'splainin' to do...
Why wouldn't BRICS appreciate a cheaper price to accumulate more gold for $$? They certainly all have enough paper $$ in US banks to get rid off. Once the new Asian SWIFT and gold exchanges are announced, the Dollar will plummet as the world realizes that suddenly half the global commodities are traded in YUAN.
Because the manipulation allows them to buy gold cheap, so there's no hurry. The moarer gold the betterer.
What do you think would happen if China issued a demand for redemption of physical silver from the CME in the amount of 100,000,000 oz? You can't paper over a demand for physical, which the CME ain't got...
Sounds great at first blush, then the reality sets in. Germany is currently in the midst of their seven year wait for their gold. I know it is .gov not the CME, but both have the same problem (as you stated, no physical to be had). The truth of it is if you ask for your metal, you get publicly humiliated and you lump it if you are a country.
LOL if gold is so cheap it means it must be available at that price, well then Germany can readily buy it on the open market...oh you mean it can't find gold in those amounts at that price on the open market... guess they will have to settle for 70 grams instead of 70 TONS
Exactly....which is why the premiums are actually going up such that even as the spot price keeps dropping, buying gold via retail isnt dropping as much. And I am suspecting that even if you buy say 70 tons of gold, one wonders how long the actual delivery will take place from when you made the purchase and when you actually have it in your hands....assuming first that the gold isnt filled with tungsten....which means you need even longer time to do tests to ensure that you didnt get jipped.
That is the crux of the matter... There is no more gold / silver hoards in the west and now that Russia / China have funneled all they can to the east, it's time to light up the big board and sink the USD once and for all...
If I had a gold eagle for every time I read that "...this may be your last oppoertunity to pick up PMs at these prices..."
I wouldn't need anymore gold eagles.
Gold lost 1230 today. How about some guesses from all you in the peanut gallery when this will end. Let's see who has the nuts to put it on the line. My bet is on Q2 2015, and Bo Polny and Santa can go F themselves.
CPNscarlet: $1180.
Indeed. As I've said a week ago (9/5 5186639 ), when we saw AU go bleow $1270, the real action can be detected via the SPREAD in bullion prices, and its steady increase.
That's the real "Canary in the Coalmine": The bigger the spread, the higher the Canary's pitch and urgency, pining for the Canary Islands. Then it keels over, and becomes an ex-Canary, pushing up daisies.
Arrogance + Desperation = FAIL
Hey.....their paper is prettier than our paper.
We need new paper....possibly with chicks on it.
Yeah... so the bills stick to the babes in the titty bars. I hate having to lick the girls to make the money stick. It's gross. Might even get Ebola or sumpin' down yonder the Nigerian strip club ....
Thanks Knucks, I don't give a shit about the Orange Juice in the Keyboard..I'm still laughing my ass off!!!!
Not only Russia and China are strengthening their economic co-operation, but the Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Putin met each other yesterday and "agreed that SCO countries should firmly crack down on the "three evil forces" of terrorism, separatism and extremism, and vigorously enhance practical cooperation in various fields.", but Russia and China will join their economic forces as well by cooperating in the Eurasian Development Bank where China will become a member this week.
This is at a time, when the NATO members, US and EU are showing their utter lack of international leadership and trying to cover every single event on the global stage, from 9/11 to Iran to Venezuela to now Ukraine or Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Syria, Libya and Egypt etc with drones, wars, terror, removal of elected leaders and sanctions instead of using diplomacy and other tools like UN forum etc. We all know how the 13 year 'war on terror' is developing with the latest incarnation of another terror outfit in this nameless/faceless war having been created this year to add to the long list of terror outfits globally. All have one agenda: to hurt American interests, so, the question to be asked is: Why do so many people around the world want to seek destruction of USA but not of any other country?
Meanwhile, China talks about cooperation, growth and development of which Africa's rapid growth in the past decade is a shining example or the port in Sri Lanka or the new free zone being created in Pakistan. When was the last time US or NATO built a sea port or a free economic zone in another country, eh?
Currently, there are 6 member nations in the Eurasin Development Bank but with China joining, it will be enlarged dramatically due to China's economic influence.
China mulls joining Eurasian Development Bankgreat points
Yes, these geographic neighbors, despit their own problems can smell the blood in the water.
"Full FAITH and credit"...
I don't believe any nations have "faith" in the US any longer... Much like the British Empire faded into history, so shall US imperialism...
I wonder when Putin and the BRICS will state that the US, NATO and their allies are the new Axis of Evil...
an interesting notion....but the Russians are far too diplomatic & intelligent to use those sort of fascistic, moronic terms that sadly seem to appeal to many Westerners. Mussolini was also a fan of using militaristic speak to describe every grand scheme his regime undertook. He's in good company with the likes of Obama, Bush, Blair, etc.
Because Russians are morally, mentally, and physically superior, right?
This is a stupid and naive fantasy.
Politicians' delivering unearned flattery is equally appealing everywhere on the globe. It is like every other kind of lie.
It has only one purpose - to cause people to do things that they would not do if they knew the truth.
Ah, SEPARATISM -- the two-edged sword for both the East and the West.
The people in power -- and especially Super Powers -- always fear it, for good reason.
Separatism is an emotion laden term - like divorce. Self-determination would harbor less innuendo.
But then it wouldn't suit the propagandists.
"Welcome to the BRICS century"
never forget that without WWI & II there would never have been "an American century".
Murica's fading away as the world order's restored.
@Pubicus: "Welcome to the BRICS century."
Follow that Yellow BRICS Road, baby! (puns intended)
Are you sure, I think they only give him toy carts because he is still a toddler and can do less damage when he throws his toys out.
China is very willing to let Russia face the military front, let the price of PMs sink while they use their various fronts to gobble it all up and lock it away, let the ruffians of the world push and shove for egoic reward, the Chinese are poised to become the new aristocrats of the world. and as such they avoid the mud-slinging. they are interested only in results: economic superiority, peace and prosperity at home.
The Chinese are generally isolationists. It is Russia who is the hope of the post-NWO world.
ZHsnob & Publicus,
China is starting its own millitary fronts, and isolating the South China Sea quite well, just ask Japan, Vietnam, Tibet, parts of Africa...etc..etc.etc.
Just say'n
if Russia is again looted then China will be next in line for the exceptional treatment.
This is not the Red Army's position, by their own admission.
People are generally the same everywhere, with only a few differences in particular talents.
The problem is that people imagine there is such a thing as racial/tribal/national righteousness - which is entirely a political fantasy. Our moral defects are pretty much identical around the globe, with the only differences being the means used to express them.
In fact China is using the same strategy vis-a-vis Russia that the US did during WWII.
Russia is going to exhaust itself while China sits in the background and offers occasional support. Then China will do what it wants, and Russia will have no choice.
The rise of the Dragon
Right on, I mean everything I have pretty much bought in the last ten plus years has been made in China. Cut out the middle man dollar, lets deal directly in Yuan.
The USA should adopt the yuan. We can get rid of the scummy dual citizens that have run this country into the ground while they control wall st and the fed. Let the control go to Hong Kong and Beijing. Heck we may even see prices drop on items with the increased efficiency and without having the parasites take a percentage for doing nothing but bleed us dry.
Dim Sum for everyone!
You'll get Zero Sum.....and like it!
or a lump sum but a smaller portion
"Dim Sum for everyone! "
And let's not forget...FoxxCon jobs for all!!...until you commit suicide...!!!
Oligarchs are Oligarchs...out with the US and in with Chinese...?
They'll take away our flushing toilets...
It would be interesting to see some states fall over themselves giving tax deductions and bribes to FoxxCon to bring manufacturing back to the US....
Success and Jobs... Happy times are here again....
Foxconn was never in US before so there is no going "back" to USA.
hey, majestic, it's not like it's up to any of us.
All I care about is Fergusson MO, how the workers of Mcdonalds are supposed to support their illegal immigrant families, and where do I get my section 8 voucher and EBT cards.
I do NOT care about borders, language, culture, or the integrity of our currency.
Ths is Merica.
Not so simple. Don't forget them Israelites. They'll fuck this up if it doesn't suit their plans. Unfortunately, Putin is on the backfoot at the moment and Obomba and his handlers know it. The US is about to flatten the ME to allow Qatar to build it's pipeline. Seems no one is able to push back against the West's anti-RussianSino stance at the moment. Unless, of course, the nukes are released....
Release the Kraken!
Seriously though, as I said only yesterday (09/11/2014 - | 5208916)...
All Russia has to do, is to help this monster have some "direction", by creating so much havoc in the ME, that the Qatari pipeline remains a pipe dream. Eventually they will have to come around and agree to build a much shorter and safer line: under the Persian Gulf, to Iran, and from there to join the Iran-Russia pipeline that feeds Europe and Asia.
In theory this is a better deal for them, but the US (MIIC+Fed) would "go ballistic". Literally. KSA and Qatar would need the combined protection from Russia+China to safeguard them from the US fleet in the Gulf and Diego Garcia, as that would dethrone the King Dollar from its GRC throne.
I think that TPTB realize this as possible chess moves, and Obomba is therefore willing to flatten the area for Qatar. Which dovetails with your point above, BaghdadBob ("We will crush them in Bagdhdad, we will crush them in Umcassa... we will crush them everywhere"). Crush On, BB, crush On!
Iran-Syria pipeline.
Drives a wedge between Russia and Iran.
I mean really. Why is it so terrible if your customers have a choice? Russia is treating consumer choice like an attack. It is not. It is a prerequisite of business.
This is his plan. Top Down bottom up inside out.
Lotta conspiracy theorists on this board. Obungler's "managing" of the situation is so consistently bad across the board that today it makes me think it is not on purpose, that we are watching a natural collapse of an empire, and the seeds of another one arising elsewhere. This is a willy-nilly president. Sorry this happened to us and to black folks.
I firmly believe it's on purpose, but he can't just come out in the open. His "bungling" is just good cover for a purpose he stated from the onset "fundamentally changing America".
I believe it is intentional also.
Good obversation, no doubt that this administration is bought and sold but there are a few different owners whose interests create competing factions. Extreme hubris, massive corruption, and thorough incompetence. Nixon's administration was almost as shady and destructive for many of the same reasons.
The empire has become unwieldy and the lies unsustainable.
You have this right on the money. Not that there are not attempted conspiracies, but that they are falling apart faster than they can succeed, as the next interest and the next, attempts things to try and swing things in their own favor, with their own plans and lies. All the swinging, and the need to try and disguise the unsustainable lies, is pulling the whole thing apart.
Your point assumes that Obama makes policy decisions. He's only a sock puppet with his handlers' (and Reggie Love's) hand up his ass.
Obama's handlers (other than Reggie) look to be losing their grip. It is all puppets and Kabuki I agree. The evil ISIS, cutting through the middle east like butter, they are shitting us all with this story line.
Only thing missing are some WWF uniforms and a cage. Scripted bullshit.
The US Federal Reserve's great Japanese currency experiment is about to blow and the US get's to see it's future.
...if the US were to eventually accept Russia's demand for a "zone of comfort" along its borders, Washington's credibility as the global dominant power, the norm-setter and arbiter will suffer.
Washington's "credibility"???!!!
As a sacker of peaceful Nation(s)!!!
Fixed it.
What par did you say this hole is?
PRESIDENT BIDEN
Get used to this word combination before you get shocked when it actually occurs (assuming Obama still keeps golfing)
Not going to happen. Zero will be occuppying the white house when the whole house of cards comes crashing in.... bank on it.
zero :-))))
Nice, now I got it
Military has too much to lose.
Any lobby except for bank lobby has too much to lose.
The Fed and the MIIC are the two sides of the same fiat coin. You can't have one w/o the other.
Heads or tails? ;-)
p.s. Skill-testing question: What's the difference between the Fed and a Counterfeit Money operation? [tick, tock]
Either A) None.
Or B) The Fed has bigger and better guns than all the other Counterfiet Money operations.
What do I win?
Most of us lose, I fear.
You win the dreaful curse of being awake and aware of a shitbag hanging somewhere over your head, yet you do not know when the said bag of shit will hit the fans and spray you(and us all) in the face.
But since you are on ZH, you already know that. :)
Agreed. Then the fight for the WH is going to be Hillary vs Elizabeth Warren. I shudder at both.
I disagree. Hillary, Biden, obomber and most of the senate and house will have been arrested, tried and executed for treason by that time.
Grimaldus
Actually there is a theory floating around the republicans will win big in Nov and then move to impeach in 2015. The disarray the impeachment will cause will be used to add even more pressure to kill the dollar.
Doc, has Fonz hung up his ZH jersey? He seemed down on being down in recent posts.
It is a horrible thought, not just because of how awful it looks, but this place will blow if a certain demographic thought that -O- was done in by an American assassin.
No way. Not gonna happen. No one is taking him out of office no matter how much golf he plays.
"... keeping Ukraine as a buffer zone between Russia and the West ..."
How about a buffer zone between Russia and China?
Russians better be careful with their new friends, the Chinese.
China is just waiting for the right conditions to get back the huge territory that the Russians stole from them.
Precisely,
China needs somewhere to put about 400 million chinese. China needs energy.
Western Russia is largely unpopulated, and rich in energy.
The chess master is putting himself between a rock and a hard place.
The answer that would work for Russia is not Geopolitical contest, but managerial-technological contest. All those briliant engineers who designed BUKs and SU-35s, etc, would help Russia more if they were developing ways to get at the hard-to-reach Siberian energy, and or making GAZPROM more efficient end-to-end than its competitors.
A constructive arms race is always better for humanity than a destructive one.
China have very small density in nearly 50% of country
It's not russian fault why this happened. Russia are accepted dismissal of Yanukovych government and his fall but west broke deal. EU even sign a deal in february and broke. Deal which favorites west in Ukraine.
I am not blaming Russia. I am just stating a fact.
If you compete constructively - by being more efficient, having a better product, etc it always benefits everyone more in the end than if you follow the path of destruction.
The path of destruction is when you hire men with guns, bombs, dirty tricks, or politicians to harm your competitor.
The problem is that people see they can get a quick advantage using these destructive tactics. But it is misleading and false.
Humans are very bad at reconizing secondary and lower order effects. And the longer the the delay between cause and effect, the less people can see it.
So, Austria wants to build a pipeline through Georgia, and the Black Sea to Ukraine, and on to Europe. Russia protects GAZPROM with military force. From the high time preference point of view this was a great deal. The military might was on hand. The immediately apparent casualties were low.
I am saying that this is deceptive because of what is unseen. What is unseen is the subsequent military build-up that occurs, where everyone diverts increasing percentages of their earnings to armaments rather than product improvements. Then there is random violence, mistrust, grudges.
Destruction is always more expensive than construction as a means of competition. The problem is that little brains with high time preference, and little ability to analyze the opportunity cost, cannot see it.
"How about a buffer zone between Russia and China?"
It already exists, and it's called Mongolia.
the reason Mongolia gained its indepedence from China without much fuss when Qing dynasty collapsed was because both Russia and China needed a buffer between them.
What?! people didn't know Mongolia was part of China under the Qing dynasty? well, geography and history are your friends.
"It already exists, and it's called Mongolia."
Big gap between east Mongolia and Vladivostok. Which, incidentally used to belong to the Chinese.
But the underlying principles are:
1. Balance of power
2. Mutual interest
Russia/China mutual interest is very temporary.
True there's still a gap, but the the big chunk of mongolia between them is useful enough in a strategic sense to serve as a buffer.
Outside of historians and scholars, you'd be surprised that most Han Chinese don't even know about Vladisvostok, only the manchurians seem to remember it, but Manchurians today are content with their Chinese identity and they are no longer a political force inside China or outside. Since Vladivostok seems to have been ommited from Chinese 'patriotic' education (unlike the Japanese invasion or the Opium war with the Brits) and most Chinese have no knowledge of it, I'd say China seem to have either less misgivings about the Russians than the Japanese or the 'western imperialists', or its something they no longer wish to remember.
Mutual interest between ALL nation states are temporary, there are no permanent friends or enemies amongst nations.
The western coalition(the current 'free world') won't last forever either, it's already on track to split into the Anglo-west(those nations who share the English speaking Anglo-saxon ancestry) and the Europe west, it's just a matter of time as well.
Give it several hundred years, depending on how much things devolve, even Canada and US might be at each other's throats. who knows.
The problem with the China strategy is that it comes too early.
China is an export driven nation that is still developing.
They make more stuff than the Chinese themeslves can buy. In elevating the Yuan's demand, its price in real goods and services will rise. Chinese will be able to afford more stuff, but everyone else on the planet will find cheap chinese stuff to be less cheap - and it will make a dent in their exports. This churn will delay the point where 'developing' becomes 'developed'.
Industry will look for a new home. India? Brazil? Regardless it will drive a wedge into the BRICS.
Simultaneously, if the US & Europe have a debt jubilee, then they will be resurgent within 30 or so years to the degree that they can lessen the burden of their governments on enterprize.
That all is without the emergence of new technological black swans - such as Computers, autos, airplanes, telegraph, steam engines, etc, each of which was a technological game changer in its day, and which for at least the last 1000 years has been a relative strength of the West.
Re Debt Jubilee timed with Europe, how would you see that occurring without war with China? Or is artificially low gold part of an agreement in advance?
Or without present debt getting re-written into some other vehicle like a SDR?
Building on your comment, here is a couple of interesting reads:

What the EU and US are doing with the Ukraine sets the stage for how the world will deal with China in the South China Sea. It's all about regional economies.
Going forward, the strength of economic sanctions creates brand awareness that stimulates or stunts your economy.
All due to tax breaks. GE (and others) are doing what Boeing Aircraft has made an art of. Squeezing tax subsidies out of the locals then getting out of Dodge, the community ends up with the bill.

The Atlantc story was all sweet dreams and BS. Only tarrifs and other protective measures will do the job. Of course that's not trendy in todays world of lowest bidder takes all. Today corporations have no loyalty to employees who generally are the customers no responsibility to community or country with management bonuses being the primary motivator.
harper...what you're working two stooge jobs now?
West conquering much of the world "stealing" chines technology. When Mongols, biggest warriors world ever see, conquering Europe(east and central, that is reason why western europe are up, not feel conquering by Mongols, even Mongols are win over western european armys but geography and poor west Europe save them) bring primitive guns in Europe. That is reason why western europe lead and geography.
Reason why west so long dominate is cheap money, UK win in that way. British was shitis continental soldiers but they can take good loans on contrary France can't. Russia come later and win over british empire in long run but that is different story.
Also, chines in 11 century have industrial revolution, have bigger navy than british ever have in 15 century, but Mongol invasions destroy first thing, second is specific chines thinking in that moment.
Perhaps China will start to sell their fine quality merchandise to Russia and the Chinese will acquire a taste for Vodka.
I would contend that any DJ (Debt Jubilee) would have to include a Currency Reset, whereby the USD loses its GRC status and is demoted to an RRC (Regional Reserve Currency). The Real, Euro, Ruble, Rupee and Yuan would be other RRCs. Maybe the ME has its own RRC, and the S.Afr. Rand becomes one for Africa. Maybe.
After the Reset, all currencies would have to be backed by something more precious than just "government fiat", to be acceptable to others -- or it's no Reset at all. I.e. All RRCs would have to be backed by some combination of Precious Resources: Precious Energy (Carbon fuels) or Precious Materials (Precious Metals, Strategic Metals, Strategic Minerals). This is unavoidable, as is E=mc2 -- the special relationship between matter and energy. Russia would probably back their money by Energy and some Gold, China would back theirs with Gold plus Strategic Minerals, etc, etc. Don't know what the Europeans would back theirs with, other than what they might call "Precious Labor".
p.s. In last night's FSTV program "Four Horsemen", one high profile speaker (former economist at the World Bank) mentioned that Shell has the best Future-Vision think-tank that he's ever seen in the public or private sector. According to Shell, the world's oil will be effectively depleted by 2075. An even bigger problem than dwindling oil, are dwindling resources. The fiat currency system and neo-classical economics (need for ever more growth) and Mother Nature are on a collision course. Shell is betting on Mother Nature. They also see two paths to follow: 1. The Blueprint path, and 2. The Chaos path. Both paths lead to the same result by 2080, but the former is far less messy and less bloody. Shell hopes for the former, but is betting (and hedging) for the latter. Who knew that they had so many libertarians at Shell: ;-)
I partially agree on the currency reset. I think there has to be a shift back to a real numeraire for the 'comeback' to be long legged. As Argentina has shown innumerable times now, the reset will work even without a return to numeraire - it just will have a much more limited life span.
Whether or not we actually get a return of the numeraire or just a new set of monopoly moneys depends on the vision and understanding of the populations. Certainly the elite will try to continue to steal by means of fiat if they can get away with it.
But why does it need to be a national currency? Why did it ever? Why couldn't they have simply said that the unit of currency is an 'Aurum' - defined as one or more grams of fine gold? At such small sizes they are hard to forge, and easy to verify. Who cares what artwork adorns it?
This is where technology can really help us - by producing hand-held validation scanners at a reasonable price. I am thinking something like the electromagetic scanners that jewelers use, but cheaper, and based on a chip that can be in your phone.
For small units you could have TINY BB's kept in a little tic-tac container. The cashier scans them, at a value equivalent to $10 or $20 or $100 each.
Despite the continual warnings of the environmental sector, I've never really believed in resource depletion. My view is based on the first law of thermodynamics. You can't really destroy any resource. You can only change its form.
This drives continual technological change as raw materials change from whatever you used to have to whatever you have. Governments love to stand in the way of this process. But it is truly boneheaded.
I am already hearing about scarce water, scarce energy, scarce this, and scarce that. Meanwhile all the metrics keep rising.
The blinkering going on is because people wear blinders. They don't think about distinctions. They think 'Oil' and 'Energy' are synonyms. But oil is just one variety of energy. You can't expend oil without creating an alternate form - according to the first law of thermodynamics. Whether you know how to use it is an entirely different question.
So people wave their hands in panic saying, "Oh NO! We're going to run out of gasoline!!!!!" And my response is, "So why do you continue to plan all your infrastructure to use something you know won't be around in a few decades? Why not methane? Why not a lot of things? Why are you still investing in the internal combustion engine when you know it won't work in 50 years? Why aren't you investing in perfecting other engines (literally hundreds of which have been around for CENTURIES). But our regulatory authorities paint us into these corners using red tape as blinders for our thinking.
Pity. Who the hell needs 'em?
You know how you can know for sure that government is a scam that is not worth the money? Because they don't give you a receipt showing what it was that you bought.
OT but not:
I was so sad to see Rickards out there hawking some kind of bookset and a series of discs telling you which stawks to buy and which stawks will crash, gold funds, etc. It is also a way to sell you membership in a little club which is supposed to tell you what the CIA and USA gov. is planning for the day after the crash.
I used to respect his opinions.
What a whore.
Both of your posts are valid. I saw the Rickards marketing media and had a bad feeling in my gut....
He's probably trying to make as much fiat as possible, to convert to metals ? If so, I don't blame him.
I suspect he and other gold bull bloggers have had their asses handed to them in the past few years and are trying even harder to drum up interest.
I continue to repeat, the only number that means anything at this point in this hall of mirrors is the all-in extraction costs which is more or less where we are right now. And this is the point you buy physical, you stack it and forget it, you pay cash, no margin no hurry no lifestyle-changing size of position. And that's it.
But that's only one long sentence so I would not make much of a blogger.
"Turkey, an SCO dialogue partner and a member of NATO, can become a useful link to the North Atlantic alliance."...
Complete with NSA/CIA/MI6/Mossad "infiltration" support...
Who the fuck wrote this one?...
What!? You no rike Dim Sum! Fuk Yu round eye Debil!
I would suggest TPTB have long ago decided to end the USD.
It would be a secure bet they have moved the B for IS funds towards China and a gold-backed (at least partially) currency.
The Zionists are now finished with the US except for the near-term use of their military in order to obtain the short-term gains they need.
I went to the bank today and exchanged more UDSs for Rubles and Yuan.
Carry on.
"exchanged more UDSs for Rubles and Yuan."
That stuns me. Not much does.
LC55,I hope you are right about Zio.I think they have been busy selling our technology to china,to ingratiate themselves.

There it is the power handshake, person on the right is in control. The one one the left is the one begging as he/she has to cross their arm over their chest.

everything will become irrelevant when the USD is replaced. No $$$$, no power. Game OVER! The only thing is what is the East strategy in removing the dollar without killing the global economy as they also need to exist within this realm. Pacifying these fascists don't work, so I'm sure their think tanks have other ideas we are not aware of. The USD is toxic now, not only in value but its impact on world security. It needs to DIE and DIE QUICK.

There is huge buying into USD and because China fixes to the USD they are riding up with it (Good for imports but China makes its money exporting ohoh )
first rule fight club second rule fight club
Its totally incorrect. The US does not represent the Western world anymore. Example is Germany/Britian are not part of the air-strike's in Syria. Russia/China still want to do business as oppose to the DC fascists, but in time they will successfully isolate everyone and in the end, they will be the ones isolated. Its happening right in front of us. Presstitutes like Reuters, Bloomberg etc obviously paint a different picture, but in reality including the so called West, countries are asking the questions, WHY SHOULD I DESTROY MY ECONOMY SO THE US CAN GET ITS WAY!
"Indeed, "thanks Obama" for firmly cementing the anti-western military, monetary and political alliance."
Obama, other than being trotted out to orate, has little to do with any of this and the journalists who write this stuff know it, but they are too intellectually and morally vapid to outright state - or even imply, who calls the shots in this and past administrations both. Anyone who thinks a man of the caliber of Obama would be left to make key strategic decisions that involve certain 'allies' and their respective U.S. based interest groups, really needs to take a cold shower...
Economic war holds the same principles as a shooting war, 1) self preservation 2) destroy the enemy. The self preservation is always at a price, this requires a sacrifice, this is a small contradiction in an attempt to preserve the 'greater good'. In short, who will be sacrificed in our economic war with Russia? In my opinion our government is completely inept, this will be a great American defeat, the victors will be Russia and China because both have been quick to maneuver and we are caught in our predictable role as a nation of self entitled bullies, printing more money and expecting the world to buy our debt. Russia and China are creating alternatives to our dollar hegemony and Russia and China have us surrounded by alternatives and now they will ignore us and allow us to implode, there will be no future re-financing the too big to fail, we will fail because of bad policy and arrogance, the world will ignore us and we will fall into a great depression and this time America will be sacrificed for the the greater good.
"... we will fail because of bad policy and arrogance ... "
I look at it as, we will correct rather than we will fail.
Americans need to wake up to the fact that spending more than you produce is unsustainable.
We need to return to honest money, gold or silver.
The Federal Reserve fraud of creating dollars from nothing has to stop.
Hopefully, once the dollar loses all value the American people will see the truth and not spend more than they produce.
