The American Public: A Tough Soldier Or A Chicken Hawk Cowering In A Cubicle?

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Mike Krieger of Liberty Blitzkrieg blog,

You gotta love the American public sometimes. For a mass of people so easily terrified by guys in caves funded and armed by our intelligence services and “allies” in the Persian Gulf, the same public talks with such armchair bravado when it comes to launching bombs from drones and sending other people’s children to die.

Makes you wonder though, which one is it? Is the American public actually the tough guy soldier it pretends to be when cheering overseas military interventions, or is it really a scared, propagandized, coward hiding in one of our nation’s endless cubicle rows? Unfortunately, based on recent opinion polls demonstrating approval for military action against ISIS, it appears to be the latter. The former is merely a front put on by that terrified, economically insecure, silently suffering automaton. I really wish this weren’t the case.

“ISIS as the new enemy” is a meme that has made me very uncomfortable from the start for several reasons, not the least being the fact that this group seemingly emerged out of nowhere just when it seemed corrupt politicians from both parties in Washington D.C. were becoming increasingly frustrated by their inability to launch missiles into Syria back in 2012, following well documented disastrous campaigns in Iraq and Libya. Not only that, it is quite clear that many of our so called “allies” such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait have been the major funders behind ISIS. Moreover, for a public so squeamish and outraged by beheadings, we hear barely a peep about the fact that beheadings hit a record level in Saudi Arabia during August, with nearly one unfortunate soul decapitated per day during the month. Nope, haven’t heard much about that at all.

But of all the inconsistency and irrationality that comes with increased support by the American public for military action against “ISIS,” nothing is more concerning than the fact that this recent approval appears to be based entirely on propagandized falsehoods. As usual, you can thank politicians and mainstream media for the latest assault on the public’s logic.

Trevor Timm encapsulates this perfectly in today’s Guardian op-ed. He writes:

Did you know that the US government’s counterterrorism chief Matthew Olson said last week that there’s no “there’s no credible information” that the Islamic State (Isis) is planning an attack on America and that there’s “no indication at this point of a cell of foreign fighters operating in the United States”? Or that, as the Associated Press reported, “The FBI and Homeland Security Department say there are no specific or credible terror threats to the US homeland from the Islamic State militant group”?

Probably not, because as the nation barrels towards yet another war in the Middle East and President Obama prepares to address that nation on the “offensive phase” of his military plan Wednesday night, mainstream media pundits and the usual uber-hawk politicians are busy trying to out-hyperbole each other over the threat Isis poses to Americans. In the process, they’re all but ignoring any evidence to the contrary and the potential hole of blood and treasure into which they’re ready to drive this country all over again.

The White House declared on Tuesday night that it needn’t bother to ask Congress for war powers, and Congress is more than happy to relieve itself of the responsibility of asking for them – or, you know, voting. Members of both parties have actually been telling the president to ignore the legislative branch entirely – as well as his constitutional and legal requirements. It seems so long ago now that presidential candidate Obama said, “The President does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation.”

“What if it comes over and you can’t pass it?” asked Sen Lindsay Graham, as though he wouldn’t want democracy getting in the way of a nice war. The aforementioned Sen Nelson said he thinks the president should go aheadand strike Isis all he wants, but added that “there are some legal scholars who think otherwise, so let’s just put it to rest”. Those pesky legal scholars with their “laws” and that “Constitution” of theirs, always slowing things down.

Thanks to this wall-to-wall fear mongering, a once war-weary public is now terrified. More than 60% of the public in a recent CNN poll now supports airstrikes against Isis. Two more polls came out on Tuesday, one from the Washington Post and the other from NBC New and the Wall Street Journal, essentially concluding the same thing. Most shocking, 71% think that Isis has terrorist sleeper cells in the United States, against all evidence to the contrary.

So where to from here? Well, those airstrikes the public have been scared into supporting, which already numbering the hundreds, will reportedly expand fast – not only in Iraq but into Syria. The White House even has shiny new euphemism for such military attacks, as the Wall Street Journal reported: “Mr. Obama could green-light the new ‘sovereignty strikes’ in his address on Wednesday.” George Orwell would be proud.

It’s also strange that we are unquestionably calling the Free Syrian Army (FSA) the “moderate” opposition and putting our faith in their abilities, despite manyactual experts claiming they’re far from moderate and far from a cohesive army.As George Washington University’s Marc Lynch wrote in the Washington Post recently, “The FSA was always more fiction than reality, with a structure on paper masking the reality of highly localized and fragmented fighting groups on the ground.” The New York Times reported two weeks ago that FSA has a penchant for beheading its enemy captives as well, and now the family of Steven Sotloff, the courageous journalist who was barbarically beheaded by Isis, says that someone from the “moderate” opposition sold their son to Isis before he was killed.

So how, exactly, will the administration accomplish “destroying” Isis, when no amount of bombs and soldiers have been able to destroy al-Qaida or the Taliban in nearly 13 years of fighting? The administration openly admits it has no idea how long it will take, only that it won’t be quick. “It may take a year, it may take two years, it may take three years,” John Kerry said.

He didn’t add, “it might take another 13”, but he might as well have.

Or it might take forever. Just say it Kerry, you know you want to.

Even more disturbing, if the American public knew the truth would it even matter? With a middle class lifestyle increasingly a pipe dream, it’s far easier for the public to support dropping bombs from drones halfway across the world than it is to deal with the real economic issues affecting their daily lives.

Meanwhile what ever happened to al-Qaeda? Seems to me their brand as a fear mongering tool has simply lost its effectiveness. So enter ISIS. Never forget the following passage from George Orwell’s 1984:

On the sixth day of Hate Week, after the processions, the speeches, the shouting, the singing, the banners, the posters, the films, the waxworks, the rolling of drums and squealing of trumpets, the tramp of marching feet, the grinding of the caterpillars of tanks, the roar of massed planes, the booming of guns — after six days of this, when the great orgasm was quivering to its climax and the general hatred of Eurasia had boiled up into such delirium that if the crowd could have got their hands on the 2,000 Eurasian war-criminals who were to be publicly hanged on the last day of the proceedings, they would unquestionably have torn them to pieces — at just this moment it had been announced that Oceania was not after all at war with Eurasia. Oceania was at war with Eastasia. Eurasia was an ally.

There was, of course, no admission that any change had taken place. Merely it became known, with extreme suddenness and everywhere at once, that Eastasia and not Eurasia was the enemy.

Oceania was at war with Eastasia: Oceania had always been at war with Eastasia.

The truth is far worse.  The American public is, by and large, too intellectually overloaded just trying to find the unoccupied government tit to be concerned with what the television tells them is going on overseas.  Besides, we have professional football.  More Americans can name their local NFL team's back-up quarterback than can name their congressman.

You want the truth? You can't handle the truth. Americans used to be brave and honorable. No longer: now they are chickshit cowards. How else do you describe some pimply-faced shithead in a bunker in Virginia, blowing the arms off a five-year old kid in Yemen with a robot bomb because somebody thinks his uncle might commit a crime sometime in the future? And how about the post 9-11 deal where they were told to duct tape their houses? One picture of a beheaded guy, or one trumped-up false flag against Putin and they're ready to go nuclear, borrowing money from their grandkids to blow up somebody else's grandkids.

Lots of brave men and women served in faraway fucked up places. The people who allowed their leaders send them there are as yellow as they come. My generation stopped a war, threw a crook president out of office, and completely changed a society. This generation? Chickenshit cowards.

LBJ was not a boomer, Nixon was not a boomer, Reagan was not a boomer, Pelosi, Reid, Kerry and the rest of the old war-horses in Conngress are not boomers and  boomers did not orchestrate Kennedy’s death.

Clinton(s), Obama and their ilk on the other hand… you’ve got a point.

I have relatives (liberal boomers) that have raised kids..  they all won’t know what hit them and I can’t tell them without being called crazy.

Just hunker down and try to do what’s right.

Not all boomers are narcissists.

There is no pride to be gained by repeatedly attacking oil-rich countries that can't defend themselves, because you don't prove yourself against a weaker opponent. There's even less pride in bombing them, i.e, not even having the balls to fight face to face. Bombing is the most cowardly way to fight. All the exceptionalism baloney is only there to make a case for bullying other countries under the guise of an Orwellian distortion of the word "democracy".

Their real weapon to manipulate the people is FEAR, not pride.

Face it, most people are now wusses, scared rodents who get their jollies reading about the latest botched prison executions.  Incompetence and corruption rule the USA.  You have murder squads on the government payroll bumping off people individually (the two former SEALs killed on the Maersk Alabama to silence them for what they saw as rooftop snipers on Boston Marathon Day 2013) or in large groups (the 9/11 attacks carried out by drone jets and the follow-up multiple executions of potential witnesses).  Anyone who has the potential to upset the applecart, such as Andrew Breitbart, is summarily dealt with.

Let me preface this by saying I'm a veteran of the Vietnam debacle. Personally I think the government and military is a dismal failure. Collectively the citizens have pumped trillions of dollars over the last few decades into the pockets of the military and its contractors. And what exactly has that gotten us? Perpetual war and a shredded bill of rights. I want a rebate. If the government was a car it would be a Yugo. It would be an interesting experiment to spend less, way less on offense, er, defense and see where that gets us. Maybe try being a good trading partner instead of the bully that we've become. Stop creating dictators and fomenting civil war and see where that leads. Of course that's not likely to happen because that would require a totally new mindset.

There is not one person I know of, in any walk of life I come across that condones what our respective countries do in our collective names.

Not.  Fucking.  One.

That is what the media tells us to believe, but I do not believe it is true. I believe that elections are a rigged sham.

The case of Harry Reid's last election is a perfect example. Reid is probably one of the most detestable insects on the planet.

In the last election he was losing to the Tea Party candidate by something like 8% and then there was a miraculous power outage. When the power came back on he was ahead in the vote.

It was an odd coincidence that his son was in charge of counting the vote. What one might think is even more odd it that we never heard anything about anyone challenging the results.

This comment, to me, summarizes the public. It was made by a man and about Hillary Clinton:

Hillary deserves the Presidency for standing by her man.  She stood by Bill and kept her family together.  If more women would stand by their man then there would be less divorce and families would stay together.  So men wander a little.  It should be no big deal and Hillary proved that if you stand by your man everything will work out.  Hillary is a role model for all women.  She deserves to be the President and maybe women will listen to her and keep their families together over messy divorce actions.

A military coup d'etat in the US will be to the detriment of the money powers plans

for a supranational SDR system. The money powers control the US govt. not the other way round.

I stand by my supposition of how this will go down. The US is

My point is that while they may be set up to fail in MENA, a military coup d'etat is still possible whether the money powers want it or not.  More and more people appear to be awakening to the bullshit about ISIS being this out of the blue phenomenon and realizing that it's actually a creation of past failed foreign policy.  The military will not want to get dragged into a war - again - training and supplying the very people we are fighting against - again - just so they can grow and fester and ultimately strengthen their resolve and numbers.  At some point, I am hoping, the worm will turn.  Military joins with militia and say enough is fucking enough, you're outta here.  Chaos for a time, yes.  However, if we allow the current government to just blunder ahead into a hot WWIII it puts all of us at risk.  They need to be stopped - yesterday.

"They" say that for the smaller to defeat the larger they need to use deception and leverage.

Who are the two opponents in this fight? I guess we just need to look at who is the deceiver and who are they trying to decieved.

IMO, not only is the American public being deceived, but also the young men and women who join our military and the mercenaries who make up ISIS/Al Qaeda.

The public is being deceived so that they fear. Fear is a control mechanism. The mercenaries and various militaries are being deceived into believing that what they do has moral standing ... and is not just choreographed murder for money... so that others can benefit more politically and financially.

I am sure the Saudis benefit from the conflict as do the US politicians who believe that they can benefit personally from supporting it.

It is a very sad statement about the so called leaders of humanity ... and whom they ultimately serve.

i am a veteran, i would send my sons to any country on earth to avoid a "draft" and would discourage either of them from joining up.  when i was in, the major hobgoblin was the ussr.  i was around a lot of officers that were nam vets and they had no problem identifying the fact that they were placed into a war and prohibited from winning it by the government.

general westmoreland sat beside me at an eagle scout banquet at kiawah island in 1977.  he told me that he was ordered not to win the war by the civilian commander in chief and his superiors.  he also showed me how to tie a knot by flipping my wrist with a rope, lol.

the government has been out of control for more than 50 years and we need to find a way to regain it. not for the parasites and souless. but for the honest, truthful, intelligent, moral people left in this country.

there are a few who are completly sick of what our country has become.  almost all politicians make me sick.  and the reward the slothful, ignorant, and connected system, or the reverse racial discrimination that i have had inflicted upon me all my life in one way or another by the government.

I was in-country from Dec 66 to Mar 69. I didn't give you an up or down arrow. Westmoreland was full of shit. He told you that, because he was trying to coverup his own incompetence as a general. He fought Vietnam like it was WW2. Not possible against the VC, nor the NVA. Now, if he was implying that he wasn't allowed to use nukes, then we have a whole different type of discussion. The Vietnamese, that fought our occupation, were some tough motherfuckers, period. They were willing to sarifice a whole lot of blood to kick us out. They knew their countryside inside and out, were rugged, dedicated beyond belief, and, above all, IT WAS THEIR FUCKING COUNTRY. They had been fighting for 2000 years, off & on, kicking other people out of their country, before we showed up. They suffered casualties, as a percentage of their total population, far beyond what our country was able to sustain, in the long haul. They were planning that it would take them 20 years, or more. Ask the French. Westmoreland was neither "honest", nor "truth" with you.

and another prevalent opinion in the military during my time of service 77 to 83 was that we didn't lose the war but our armies were ordered to leave by the politicians because our people did not support continued operations in vietnam.

The Vietnam war was designed to make LBJ a lot richer along with MIC.  MIC at that time included a  including a tribe member who became insanely wealthy and who was also a big obama and mccain supporter.  So he had 2008 covered.

As far as the Vietnamese.  They went into Cambodia to stop that psychopath Pol Pot. This was about 5 years after the end of the Vietnam War. 1979.

China decided to attack Vietnam.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sino-Vietnamese_War

The Vietnamese Army was largely in cambodia so they used mostly milita against the Chinese and kicked China's arses.  They called it a draw but Vietnam held their own.  I am not pimping for the Vietnamese but they are a tough adversary.  They made the Chinese miserable and made them pay for every yard.

The whole LBJ war was a scam like all wars including WW1 and 2 and the worst being The Civil War.  All for banksters to make money.  Sad.

We live in a push button remote control world where WAR is just a word or a video game.  People casually discuss wiping out others they do not even know half way across the world.  It's easy to be a long distance warrior.  It's the mob mentality where no individual experiences the guilt for destroying someone's home or family.  I'd like to see these arm chair warriors prove their bravery by taking a nightime stroll through the projects areas in their own backyard before they opine on going to war.

Brings back the speech at the end of the Patton movie where he takes about wonder weapons. He basically said that those weapons remove the honor from war.

Patton is probably my favorite movie of all time, and I admit I was thinking about Patton when I wrote that.

Well Patton was a dick who led tanks against The Bonus Army.  His boss was an even bigger ass and amazingly overrated MacArthur.  Ike was also there.  Smedley Butler supported The Bonus Army.  Leading tanks against American vets for the banksters and Congress.

Anyway, Patton became a threat to the NWO/OSS boys and became an accident in Germany.  I guess Patton figured out the scam a little too late.   Even in retirement they will get to people like Bill Colby.

Funny that just this week I came across a document by Anthony J Pansini titled "Machiavelli and the United States of America." The thesis is that the tripartite form of government as enshrined in our Constitution was sketched in great detail by Machiavelli in his Discourses on the First Ten Books of Titus Livy, and adopted by the Founders, especially John Adams.

So -

But the Roman federation fell and disintegrated, as have others since. Years of thought and analysis led Machiavelli to conclude the cause was the breakdown in the moral fiber of the people. This was manifested in many ways: by the corruption in enacting and carrying out laws; in the decline in military valor of its citizens and the extended use of mercenaries; in the growth of a parasitic class feeding upon the fruits of a decreasing number of achievers; and the condoning, if not the exalting, of unsavory practices.  Or as he put it, in the decline in the 'virtu,' that all encompassing word, in the people.

That is a pretty concise summary of what we are facing going forwards.

At the root of all civilization failures is the insufficiency of sustaining values in a sufficient number of individuals in that group. Although America uses high sounding moral language its entire history has been based on the use of force rather than right/wrong morality which was merely an attendant window dressing to its major defining events. To be fair every country suffers from this. Its as simple as might makes right. But might does not make sustainable so nobody has sustained, only right can do that.

"Makes you wonder though, which one is it? Is the American public actually the tough guy soldier it pretends to be when cheering overseas military interventions, or is it really a scared, propagandized, coward hiding in one of our nation’s endless cubicle rows?"

Wonder no more Mr Krieger! I think a single example can prove your point. This video from Brazil shows a 13 year old white girl being attacked because she was the only child in the school who was "blonde" meaning "white". This happens daily in America's schools as well. And yet do you see the brave keyboard commandos of the "God Bless America" type doing ANYTHING about it? NO they are COWARDS hiding. THEIR OWN CHILDREN and they do nothing or worse they FORGIVE the attackers, pray for them, and in some cases TRY TO HELP THE attackers beat the rap. Cowards, clearly, but all INSANE by any standard of reality, and fed a diet of PROPAGANDA in the mainstream media, in their churches, in their schools, perhaps one may give them some excuses but NO matter what living creature in nature, they ALL defend their children, but not the mainstream whites of USA, Brazil, England, see the Rotherham scandal.

And now something ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, CNN, et al will never show you:

Thanks Mike.

Unlike Sotloff and Foley, YOU are a Real journalist.

Michael Hastings was a REAL journalist, and the MIC killed him.

Breitbart was a REAL journalist, and the pricks killed him too.

Sotloff and Foley were pretend journalists, working for CIA cover outfits, who were "beheaded" in fake vidoes, to get Armchair Warriors safe and comfortable here in America riled up enough to send future Smedley Butlers to faraway lands to kill men, women and children.

Thanks again Mike.

I think our strategy should be: CAGE FIGHT.... Let the Muzzies do what they have done for over one thousand years - KILL EACH OTHER.

Just keep the oil flowing and fighting can range over borders...

When they are done - we blow up the winner.  F-em.

After NATO completely ties down Russia on it's western border with the Ukrainian gambit, the US and Israel will be able to attack (pincer) Iran from both Iraq and Afghanistan after the Nuclear Talks with Iran are sabotaged and fall apart.

Afghanistan has always been about bases for the invasion of Iran, after they took the Shah's oil away from us.

Obama Deals Crushing Blow To Russian Oil

New U.S. sanctions handed down on Friday are designed to effectively “shut off” Russian oil conglomerates from oil exploration projects, U.S. officials said, in a move aimed squarely at Russia’s $425 billion-a-year petroleum industry.

The measures are “designed to effectively shut down this type of oil exploration and production activity by depriving these Russian companies of the goods, technology, and services that they need to do this work,” a senior Obama administration official said Friday.

The official added the intention of the new sanctions was to ensure that “we have effectively shut off the capacity” of Russian oil companies to draw on U.S. expertise for deepwater, Arctic offshore, and/or shale oil exploration projects. The official stressed this was an important step because Russia’s companies did not possess the kind of technology needed to undertake the operations.

Because they wouldn't turn the keys over to the US. The attack on Ukriane was an attack on Russia

While Exxon may be left out in the cold, I somehow suspect that Halliburton and Transocean have the technology - and along with several other oil services they have re-located OUTSIDE the US. As for money - Exxon has already spent a big chunk in Russia building the drilling support infrastructure, and paying on the leases. And if Russia needs cash - the Chinese are more than happy to take those trade surplus US dollars and invest them in Russia!
