Scottish Referendum Preview: In 170 Years, Voters Chose "Independence" 88% Of The Time

Tyler Durden's picture

Ahead of Thursday's critical Scottish Independence vote, we thought some context was worthwhile. As The Guardian notes, history shows that when people are asked, they almost always say yes to independence. Every election, country and place’s history is unique and different. Scotland is no exception. Yet, when given the opportunity, The Guardian finds countries tend to vote in favour of independence, and to do so decisively - across 50 votes since 1846, the vote for independence came out on top 88% of the time (and when the margin was small, voters always sided with independence.) But this time is different, right?

88% of Votes chose Independence since 1846

Animals of all kinds prefer freedom and independence.   Just leave the gate open to your backyard and watch fluffy.

But people vote to enslave others.  So a parasites "independence" (the ability to get a free scooter and a disability check) is completely dependent on the removal of your ability to do what you want with your money.  The parasites vote, to strip you of your independence.

Eventually, parasitedom catches on and the parasites fight amongst themselves.  (just observe the legal claims against corporations by one minority group against the company for hiring too many of the OTHER miniority group)

Eventually the parasites go cannibal as the hosts just stop providing.  It'll get here too.

Here is something of interest that throws a curve at everything:

[J]esuit agents are trying to turn the plans of the BRICS alliance to remove the petrodollar supremacy of the military-industrial complex into plans to use global currency reset for the Jesuit plan of world domination. You need to know that Jesuits were infiltrating China since the 16th century and they have a vast network there. Regardless, the top people within the Dragons and the Eastern Alliance are fully aware of the Jesuit manipulations and will NOT allow their positive plans to be misused.
So there is progress being made regarding the fall of the petrodollar as the only reserve currency:

Good on you Chunky.

I guess UK/City of London expected another tame Canada/Quebec referendum.  Apples and oranges BUT I think this is what the despots thought.  Looked at Scotland. Looked at Quebec.  Said no way but we will play along.

Please please please vote YES.  But do not suck the EU tit.  Take a lesson from Iceland.

And if by "tame" you meant "predictable" or "preordained", note the <1% difference in the 1995 results.  It was as close as it possibly could have been.

If Scotland were allowed to go independent, Catalonia would swiftly follow, followed by somewhere else, followed by the breakup of the EU. Banksters' one world wet dream stepping stone that the EU is, it'll never happen. So, I predict a close result, with the "No" vote winning by a small margin.

I agree but very hard to do.  We are doing it individually, some of us.  Taking $$ out of banks, brokerages,  Got food etc.  In other words maybe not divorce in Vegas but at least a separation of most assets.  Hard to do as has cost me some penalties etc to withdraw from gov. sanctioned pension plans.

However it came to the question of "Lose it all?  or pay a tax/penalty  I can control now....and run with assets in my control."   No-brainer actually.

My family will survive a long while.  And if I am going to flip a coin on the outcome here?  I am loading the dice in favour of everything I have read for years...and that is not betting on Central Banking or gov.  or even items at the grocery store.

Cheers.

People in metro areas will have a harder time disengaging/surviving.

But you are right.  A world-wide "worker/producer" boycott on consumerism would take the wind out of many sails.  Coming to elections in much of the West.  US/Canada/UK.  About time they actually had to face the truth that is the voters no longer are willing to play then what?

The execution of the Scot, David Haines, by ISIS, real or fake,  was supposed to cause all the Scots to go hide behind the big ass of the Queen.  And to keep on singing:

God save our gracious Queen
Long live our noble Queen
God save the Queen
Send her victorious
Happy and glorious
Long to reign over us
God save the Queen

And like a torrent rush
Rebellious Scots to crush

I kind of like Nigel Farage's take on it.  IIRC he said the personally he regretted the possibility of the UK breaking up, but politically it would be to his party's advantage to have all those Scottish Labor party MP's out of the English Parliament and the reduction in welfare costs that Scotland costs.

The Genius Of George Osborne

.

People are completely wrong about the Chancellor George Osborne.

He’s not a wanker at all. He’s a genius.

Yes, I know he looks like a wanker. And he sounds like one. And OK, he quite often acts like one too. But I’m getting fed up of people criticising him without looking at the facts.

So here they are:

2012 – A Year Of Growth

Credit where credit’s due – Mr Osborne had told us his 2012 budget would be a budget for growth and that is exactly what he gave us.

Just look at this raft of growth figures under his stewardship of the economy:
  • Inflation has grown from under 3% to nearly 6%.
  • Unemployment has soared to levels not seen for 18 years.
  • Bankruptcies have nearly doubled.
  • Top executives’ pay has shot up by as much as 50% in the last year.
  • The gap between rich and poor is now wider than it’s ever been in history.
  • Sales of antidepressants have risen by 20%.
  • Crime is increasing for the first time in 16 years (although Theresa May might try to claim credit for this particular success).
  • Homelessness is 13% higher.
  • VAT has gone up to 20%.
  • The cost of living is rocketing – prices of basic foodstuff have gone up by an average of 6.2%.
  • Rail fares are set to rise 5.9% in the new year.
  • Hospital waiting times are lengthening.
  • The number of recessions has doubled in less than 2 years.
  • And after all that – what is the net result on UK debt? Aggregate indebtedness of the UK is now 11% of GDP higher than when Mr Osborne took over as Chancellor.

I think I would vote for Stalin before I would vote for that vile wanker Ed Miliband.  Ed, Cameron, Clegg et al are owned by the Red Shield.

The funny video of these idiots going to Glasgow by train for a rally.  Milliband gave a speech.  This would be more than enough to get the Scots to vote Yes.

Absolutely.

I watched Sky News Adam Boulton interviewing Salmond last night and after throwing one after another anti-Yes "trip-you-up" questions at Salmond, spent the whole time interrupting his replies. Salmond had a job getting a word in edgeways. Boulton went on the say "Every respected economist says that going it alone will not be good for Scotland". His idea of a "respected economist" is someone who sucks at the teet of government and/or works for a bank or financial institution.

smacker, re: "The English are just as sick of the Westminster elected dictatorship as they (the Scots) are."

so you see this as an anti-establishment poll? not that I'm that happy to read "elected dictatorship" (you know I'm a critic of the FPTP voting system)

I'm asking more because I often hear after a referendum that people voted in a certain way as an act of protest for something completely different yet related

Wed, 09/17/2014 - 05:51 | 5225522 smacker
smacker's picture

"so you see this as an anti-establishment poll?"

I see it as an anti-Westminster poll. Many Scots are sick of being ruled from Westminster, which for all intents and purposes, is a system of elected dictatorship. Even Paddy Ashdown (ex-Leader of LibDems) described it that way a few years ago.

Many Scots want to run their country their way.

And the reason is simple: the system of government is not really controlled by elected representatives. It is owned and run by armies of powerful unelected apparatchiks (ie Civil Service) and The City etc etc. The electorate hardly get a look in. No newly elected govt walks into No.10 or the Foreign Office or Home Office with a clean sheet. Their policies are articulated by boffins and powerful agencies of the State. EG: Met Police, UKBA and many others.

The FPTP system is no better or worse than many other systems. What would make a huge difference is for Britain to have a strong written constitution which was independently supervised and which prevented any elected government from overstepping its delegated authority.

Fat chance of that happening without a revolution.

Can the EU beg Cameron and the UKIP to stay united as well??? Can Europe say to the UK that it would break our heart if you leave and that it will be forever?

Ukraine voted to become independent of the USSR - and they got what they wanted.  Now some of their territories are asking for the exact same thing and suddenly it is a crime.

I fucking hate this world.  Best times to become a Pirate or a lone Anarchist!

"The Rothschilds, and that class of money-lenders of whom they are the representatives and agents -- men who never think of lending a shilling to their next-door neighbors, for purposes of honest industry, unless upon the most ample security, and at the highest rate of interest -- stand ready, at all times, to lend money in unlimited amounts to those robbers and murderers, who call themselves governments, to be expended in shooting down those who do not submit quietly to being robbed and enslaved." by: Lysander Spooner

Politicians always and everywhere are criminals and enemies to the productive citizenry.

Keep your enemies ever closer.  And watch them with unblinking eyes.

For a period of time stretching some years I made a point of asking everyone I knew during election season, whether they would prefer to elect a benevolent idiot or an Evil Genius.

I don't recall that anyone ever chose the benevolent idiot.

I can't imagine what they were thinking.  For the benevolent idiot wishes to do well, and may on occasion bumble his way to the right thing.  But the Evil Genius will have you in the meat grinder to consume your substance every single time.

Hope may spring eternal, and the South may rise again...but by all accounts the odds are against a good outcome while intelligent men prefer Evil to Benevolence.
