Many US cops are crooked. I called the cops on a guy who threatened me once. Turned out the guy was another deputy's son! The responding deputy gave me a 'go to hell' look and told me off. You can't believe how I felt, a year later, when the deputy's son killed himself on a motorcycle. I'll never call the cops again unless it's to establish an alibi for self defense.
The cops are not there to serve you. They are there to protect and serve, just not you or your community. At some point we are going to have to activate the real Citizens On Patrol with our neghbors if we wish to be safe in our communities.

If it is up close and personal you cannot outrun a bullet. If there is a substantial distance then running away and seeking cover may be an option.

I think you nailed it. Few of us have correct training, even fewer with actual experience in confrtontations or physical threats. Then there's the element of surprise. So it's very easy for people to post "I would have done this or that" but sometimes shit comes out of nowhere. Only experience and confidence would turn the tables to the victim's side.
