Initial Jobless Claims Plunge From 3-Month High To 14-Year Low

Tyler Durden's picture

Last week's "blip" higher in initial claims to over 300k - its highest in almost 3-months - has been demolished by the always-reliable, never-noisy data this week. At 280k, dramatically better than expectations of 305k, initial claims has only been lower once in the last 14 years... just don't tell Janet. The prior week was upwardly revised leaving a 36k drop this week - the biggest percentage drop since 2005. The all-important 4-week average is back under 300k and the labor department reports nothing unusual about this week's data... apart from the fact that non-seasonally-adjusted claims rose 6k to 241k.

3-Mo High to 14-Year Low... (aside from July's 279k print lows).

Wow! The propaganda is getting deep the closer we get to elections. At this rate by the time we get there we will have a negative weekly claims print.

This ain't the USA.

This is some thieving, criminal, Socialist usurpation, accompanied by the twin plagues of paralyzing non-judgmentalism and political correctness.

Not even CLOSE, to what the USA once was.

Of course all the gov't stats are pure BS.

They must be  counting all of the school teachers returning to work!

Having worked for a few months in a state unemployment office decades ago (where the senior manager kept herself busy trolling for new girlfriends in the continued claims section), my opinion is that no statistics involving UI are reliable.  The numbers my former office generated were subject to human error and incompetence, which this office had in heaping abundance.  In other words, garbage out numbers to the higher ups on the civil service totem pole.

I go to a weekly meeting at a church and a couple weeks ago the parking lot was completely packed to over flowing. An old timer that has been there since the 90s said he has never seen the parking lot that full.

It was for a career fair.

Using this graph to claim there is a healthy job market is a bald-faced lie.

Yep, they need to provide the perception that things are going great, so when they "FIX" those election numbers, it will seem conceivable with no resistance.  Then guess what, they are coming full tilt FOR YOUR GUNS.

That’s how evil works.

Do intelligent people still look at this shit like it's valid? Besides the liberal hacks over at CNBC who still marvel at the officail bullshit from the Bureau of Lies & Statistics [BLM], we might as well have the PBOC do it for us as well as for themselves. What's the difference?

You mean the intelligent people with the smart phones that are constantly texting like the jackass that went into my lane today while I was driving my kids to school and the other jackass that went into my lane today while I was riding my motorcycle to work?  I'm sure they were texting the recipe for the ebola vaccine and the solution to peace in the middle east to their intelligent friends with smart phones.

People who have been led to believe they're intelligent, especially where I live in Massachusetts, definitely buy the BS and bow down to anyone named Kennedy.  I'm sure the repub states have the same idiots worshipping whomever on the other side.

Let's see ...since April I've gone on 17 job interviews. No one wants to pay even a reasonably fair wage for what my skill set is. Day care costs 2x my monthly mortgage payment around here. Phone is ringing off the hook ...at least 2 recruiters a day calling me looking for purple squirrels. This is EVERY month. It's usually a person who cannot speak English from another state recruiting for jobs in my state 900 miles away. This person cannot even tell what the position needs or if I'm a good fit. All they know is to ask a) Are you authorized to work in the US? b) W-2 or 1099? c) We offer no benefits and this is a contract only offer.  What a joke. So I sit. So WTF?

Might be joining you on the bench after the first of the year. The company I work for is being acquired and there are going to be a lot of heads to chop. They have published the severance details, two weeks pay for every year with the company. Been her 11 years so I won't be hurting right away but I also won't be eligible for UE benefits either I believe, at least not until 22 weeks go by.

The unemployment rate improves dramatically if we count housewife and househusband as full time jobs. I once heard that being a mother is like having 2 full time jobs, so we should account for that in the statistics.

I didn't have a chance to post yesterday when Tylers put up that Fed reduced their GDP forecast but that reduced forecast is after the GDP was changed last year to include things never included in the GDP.  So yes, they could include stay at home parents as 2 full time jobs and then still have high unemployment because masking the problem never fixes it.

I always laugh at these numbers at this time of year. Because they fail to tell you that in many states, teachers can still spend the summer on unemployment and go off it in August.
