I am saying there is no way anymore to honestly administer democracy under these failed regimes. Yes, electronic voting is my personal experience. The process is corrupt, not some specific technology (Diebold or paper) that is corrupt. I don't know what they use in Scotland (thank you for informing me in your asshole way). What I do believe is that any such referendum is going to be controlled by the regime. It's still my opinion that NSA/CIA/GCHQ or any other government alphabet that believes their actions are noble in saving the regime will do it. Paper, plastic, purple fingers, 010101... etc. Ballot stuffing is as old as democracy.
It doesn't matter who votes for what, just who counts and then reports the votes.
This evening's TV/MSM newscast reported that the votes are hand-counted and the results won't be available until tomorrow.
Not disputing the 'who counts' thesis, just reporting what I heard about how counted.
I have no doubt they are hand counted........at the lowest local voting level. But then those 'votes' are aggregated at the next level and the next level and the next level and so on. Plenty of wiggle room for creative accounting and dropped or altered subtotals.
It always astounds me how someone will look at a column of numbers and a 'total' at the bottom and just 'assume' the total is correct.
I once bullshitted my way through 12th grade science. I totally made everything up for a science fair. EVERYTHING. I not only got an A, I went to the regional fair, and then on to the state science fair as well. No one ever questioned my work, they just accepted my bullshit. I am not the smartest bulb, but not the dumbest either....not by far.
So I can smell bullshit when I smell it. And its starting to get REALLY stinky lately.

I would say that in most cases it is a self-imposed forfeiture of thought, in order to mitigate any burden that inevitably ensues as a consequence of having accepted an ugly truth. I see no failure of imagination in colleagues when they are discussing topics that have absolutely no importance to their life, which require no effort on their part to evaluate, and have no real consequences or responsibilities attached. It is only when their imagination would take them to a place that demanded their attention and informed response, or some effort on their part to change their life, that the individual mind turns dull and uncreative. It is a form of self-medication, and it is a weakness that is nurtured by the system we grow up in; a system that encourages the most cognitively dissonant types or, if you like, the most consonant and complacent cogs. Only one thing wrong; a few people blew the photos up and noticed the lapels and faces of the so-called "Chinese soldiers" were actually brutal Nepalese military beating the crap out of some of their own protesters up there in the mountains of Nepal.
Der Spiegel also reported the photos and later issued an apology but CNN never did as far a I know. In any line of work [except banking and Wall Street] you'd lose your license and/or go to jail for fraud.
Turned out the most truthful info came from various impartial Australian tourists who happen to be visting Tibet at the time and posted their films on YouTube showing what actually happened.

Is there any truth to the story that this referendum came up because the Scots want MOAR social benefits? I have seen a couple of articles stating this. Frankly, I don't see how this could happen (because their benefits system seems to be funded by Jolly Olde England).
