Moments ago NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell concluded a press conference in which he discussed NFL player conduct, domestic violence, sexual assaults, sponsorships, and other things. The one thing that caught our attention is that when he was asked if he had considered resigning, his answer was a resounding "No." For all those wondering why the commissioner of this non-profit, tax-exempt 501(c)(6) organization has not considered calling it quits despite the ongoing public opinion firestorm, here is the reason. Or rather 44,107,000 reasons.

I was surprised when the reporters asked him since he got it wrong if he would step down. It wasn't a case of Goodell getting it wrong. He flat out lied to the public when he claimed he had no knowledge of the Rice knock-out tape in the elevator. Now that it has been proven that he not only knew months before and did nothing about it, but looked into the cameras and bald-faced lied, there SHOULD be consequences. Then again, I guess Clinton set a precedent.

There is nothing wrong with charities and churches being tax exempt as long as they truly are charities with their employees, priests and others all either being unpaid volunteers or on a modest (very modest) stipend (minimum wage levels). Also no fancy fringe benefits (fly coach, stay in a 2 star hotel or monastary), no fancy car and eat a brown bag lunch.
Those who wish to serve either God or the public should do it for Heavenly Rewards or the satisfaction of Public Service and civic duty, not for 40 million and a fat expense account.
They're also exempt from Anti-Trust laws. No competition. If you think they fear their tax exempt status being taken away, multiply it by 2X how much they fear their monopoly status being taken awy.

Maybe, instead of paying attention to the latest news on ESPN, one might suggest Americans pick up some intellectually stimulating books (Not Harry Potter, or Twilight), and begin to educate themselves about the very brutal concrete reality they are either ignoring, or have been fortunate enough to have bypassed for the time being. To be clear and to conclude, distractions are fun and necessary, at times, but sports entertainment in the year 2014 is much more than a few fun games to pass the time. Unfortunately, what in previous generations passed time, now constitutes as a lifestyle choice. It may be all of the above. It is coming. There is no turning back. We are paying the piper. The charge card bill for the honeymoon is in the mail and the honeymoon is over. We now live in a broken land running on the fumes of a once mighty industrial powerhouse built on a foundation that has since crumbled. Character doesn't matter. Money matters. Period.
I somewhat succesfully raised three daughters to adulthood. They are now married and I have 5 beautiful grandchildren. I have 3 great sons in law who love my daughters and work hard. Raising my girls they were told the same two things over and over. You have your word and your reputation. If you falter or fail with either it is hard to earn respect from others back. As a nation,,, we have become a laughinstock. A foundering whale,,, armed to the teeth with no direction and no leadership. The federal government agencies and thier vastly overpaid employees with absurd benefits and lifetime pensions are sucking the country dry. I read somewhere there are 385K employees just in DHS.
When my 2 year old grandson jumps up in my arms and hugs my neck,,, I wonder. What is high school going to look like for him? Football,,,, smootball,,,, it is all broken. They want you watching the hand that is moving,, just like a magician. Sorry for the rant,,,,
