That is awesome WB7 and so are those pics you have on flickr.

In other news, what the hell is growing on Obama's nose here?  Has it always been there?  I watched this short video of the Moron in Chief and all I could look was that second nose starting to grow.  I would get that looked at but maybe he lost his health care because of the Affordable Health Care Act?

Heard on the news that the shares in the IPO do not represent ownership of the Alibaba, rather they are shares in a Cayman Islands (or some such) company that has rights to cashflow.  Now if this is true, it takes great care to discern what is the strength of the claim.  It would be net, I assume but net of what expenses and how and by whom are those expenses determined.  I'm thinking of the old Hollywood scams where investers got a cut of the net profits of a movie . . . and there were never any net profits . . . or in mining where the local government got a royalty from, say, ABX, but there was little if any net once the games were played.  I of course don't mean to imply that any games would be played in the biggest IPO of all times.

American Depository Receipts (ADRs) are standard practice for non American companies.  They avoid transfer taxes and currency exchange problems which would otherwise limit the value.of the shares.  Wiki has an OK summary.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_depositary_receipt

Now as to whether the Chinese government can keep corruption and other problems down to a mild roar, I think we should ask WB7 and our other friends on the ground.

As we all know, no one actually bought shares of Ali Baba. Investors bought shares of a "shell company" (as in tax shelter) registered in the Cayman Islands. Investors have been assured (by the "banksters" of which Goldman Sachs is the leader) that this shell will receive some portion of Ali Baba's revenues, and that it will use these revenues for "various" purposes. There is no explicit assurance that any portion of these revenues will be distributed to the investors in the form of dividends, nor how their ownership may diluted by grants of stock to executives and other insiders in the future.

But what I did not know until late yesterday, is that Jack Ma, who is the majority shareholder of Ali Baba, will not be the majority shareholder in the shell company. Giving up control over the revenues of Ali Baba is the price paid by Ma in order to take his company public and worldwide. That is the grand prize secured by "Squid" Goldman Sachs and the "Ubermenschen" whom GS serves.

But none of this truly matters, as long as the share price goes up, up, and away.

Ok...because I'm an FSU fan (holier than thou anti-football progressive/PC freaks just back off for a minute, I have something to say) I got interested in just what Jameis Winston said to get himself suspended for a game.

It would seem that FHRITP has become some sort of popular "internet thing" with young adults. The act of grabbing the mic at some stuffed shirt forum or function and breaking the tranquil indoctrination being implemented and/or shared high brow navel gazing going on and saying something genuinely outrageous.

Now while I don't believe Winston is the modern day equivalent of Diogenes masterbating & urinating in public, it is still nice to see the power & influence structures challenged & questioned from time to time.

Afterall, universities are schools of higher learning, are they not? ;-)

Anybody know why investors are willing to throw 200 billion, 10 times entire world physical silver market, into a company that has said investors are its last priority, in a country that could at any second say "ha ha, stupid Americans, you no own Alibaba no more".  But same people will look at investments with no counterparty rist and says, nah I would rather own something from one of the most corrupt nations on earth that if they allowed free competition would get destroyed by Google in about a week and a half.

It is Amazon, much more than Google or Facebook, which will be threatened by Ali Baba. I wonder how many shares of BABA were sent to Jeff Bezos through the various trusts which are managed for his family's personal benefit.

Amazon is about to blow up. they have problems on all fronts, order fullfillment, pricing, shipping. Walmart has more advantages than Amazon, (they have their own -supply- shipping), Bezos is looking at drones because there is political pressure to defund USPS, and the other carriers are putting on the (Walmart) margin squeeze. you have no business without us, therefore you will pay us a bigger share to deliver the goods. Amazon has been caught pricing above box retail (and thats before shipping remember) in a number of cases. if Walmart has gotten too big to function effectively at a local level, where is Amazon? working Amazon fullfillment is a step below working fast food. the demise of big box retail won't be too much different than the fragmented auto industry, too many players, slack in demand, a growing secondary market for recycled goods at the local level. overcapacity, dropping personal income. this one might crash before the 30 day lockup period, that would be fun to watch.

You are right that Amazon is a better fit then google.  That said it is not Alibaba that is a threat to Amazon it is the other way around.  The only thing that Alibaba has going for it is the protectionism in China.  If amazon was on an equal playing field in China, they would wipe the floor with them.

Yes, this point is conveniently overlooked. The barriers to entry. If you look at Alibaba's web properties they all look like what imagine an AOL marketplace would look like.

Having said that, I would also point out that one other factor that drives the Alibaba model is the prohibitive cost of small retail real estate space in all the major Chinese cities, including Hong Kong. Many boutique style shops have been driven off the street.

The tragic thing is that "Hopium Continuum" works over and over again, since we have a system of government enforced bankster frauds, which has secured the one thing it really needs, which is that enough of the people can be fooled enough of the time.

rm , the dialetctic wil always have to change to suit the times. some people believe a political singularity is coming when the masses can rebel against govenrment.

the slow motion collapse of rome, plus the high agricutlrual centralization of industrialized processes combined with a projection of fertizilier supplies suggest that short of a mother nature natural catastropher-----the food supply handout system of the u.s will not be seriously disrupted like it was during the great depression.

only when people go hungry in mass and perceive that as the fault of the 'system' will they truly rebel against eh system.

the u.s. governments MAIN JOB is to ensure that 1) the people don't rebel and this means 2) having police/paramilitary 3) having an UNINTERRUPTED FOOD WELFARE SYSTEM TO HANDOUT FOOD.

i know you will agree with me , because food is life, and lack of food death, and all you ever talk about is 'death systems' and 'violence and death'.

food is life, and lack of food is death. FOOD DISTRIBTUION SYSTEMS ARE LIFE-support/DEATH SYSTEMS.

CONTINUED PREVENTION OF A MASS DEATH/STARVATION PERCEIVED AS THE FAULT OF THE GOVERNMENT'S OPERATION OF ITS 'LIFE DEATH ' SYSTEM--------results in 'stability' , or at least continued control of a more or less LINEAR unineterrupted dialectic of control.

there will be no gorbachevs' that admit the system is failed. there will be no open notorious coups. there will be no false flags that lead to total and catastrophic mutually assured destruction.

the powers that be don't need to kill themselves in order to anticipate what a 'discontinuity' would be, and then steer that dialectic. if they in fact DO face circumstances where the u.s. is failing to provide food welfare. it will be a time to hire more people in the homeland security department and begin the mass chaos dialectic which encourages crime, encourages violent law enforcement, encourages financial defaults of all sorts which are ALREADY in progress.

the powers that be understand dialectics better than anyone. they play chess and anticipate 2 moves ahead based on the many 'trending' social conditions and 'narratives' about those conditions. not only do they try and inform themselves of what is actually happening, but they monitor the response to the media sotries they control. they know WHEN their media outlets are being ignored by the population.

Ahhh, the wisdom of RM.

Grace.

The criminality is stacked to the celing and to overcome the walls of ignorance and propaganda, it takes BS-proof boots ten feet tall. How long can the corruption go on unheeded and accepted as normal in the world that is turning?

Here's an oldie but goodie and something to ponder as you listen gently to the sounds of bliss.:

"Part One: The Origins of the Fed

“The real truth of the matter is, as you and I know, that a financial element in the larger centers has owned the Government ever since the days of Andrew Jackson.” – FDR letter to Colonel Edward House, Nov. 21 1933

All our lives we’ve been told that economics is boring. It’s dull. It’s not worth the time it takes to understand it. And all our lives, we’ve been lied to.

War. Poverty. Revolution. They all hinge on economics. And economics all rests on one key concept: money.

Money. It is the economic water in which we live our lives. We even call it ‘currency'; it flows around us, carries us in its wake. Drowns those who are not careful.

We use it every day in nearly every transaction we conduct. We spend our lives working for it, worrying about it, saving it, spending it, pinching it. It defines our social status. It compromises our morals. People are willing to fight, die and kill for it." j.c.
