Ron Paul Blasts Congress 'More War' Vote, "They Come Over Here, Because We Are Over There"

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Ron Paul via The Ron Paul Institute for Peace and Prosperity,

Last week, the House and Senate voted to rubber stamp President Obama’s war plans for the Middle East. Both bodies, on a bipartisan basis, authorized the US to begin openly training and arming the rebels who have been fighting for three years to overthrow the Assad government in Syria.

Although the Syrian government has also been fighting ISIS and related extremist groups for three years, the US refuses to speak to the Syrians and has warned Assad not to interfere with the coming US attack on sovereign Syrian territory

President Obama promised that airstrikes alone would “degrade and destroy” ISIS, telling the US military in a speech last week that:

“The American forces that have been deployed to Iraq do not and will not have a combat mission… I will not commit you and the rest of our armed forces to fighting another ground war in Iraq.”

But of course any US troops sent into a war zone are “combat” troops. And more are on their way.

While the president was swearing that there would be no boots on the ground, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Martin Dempsey, was in open disagreement. General Dempsey told the Senate Armed Services Committee last week that US forces would need to embed with Iraqi or Kurdish troops in combat situations under certain circumstances.

The limited mission the president promised just weeks ago has already greatly escalated, and now threatens to become another major regional war. In reality, however, this is just a continuation of the 24 year US war on Iraq that President George Bush began in 1990 and candidate Obama promised to end as President.

Under last week’s authorization bill, the president would have authority to train 5,000 fighters in Saudi Arabia for insertion into the civil war in Syria. This is in effect a re-arrangement of the deck chairs. To this point the training was carried out by the CIA in Jordan and Turkey. Now, the program will be moved to the Pentagon and to Saudi Arabia.

The CIA training of the rebels thus far has resulted in a direct pipeline of weapons from “vetted moderates” to the al-Qaeda affiliated al-Nusra Front and to the very ISIS that the administration claims to be fighting. In July, a full brigade of 1,000 fighters from a US-backed rebel group joined ISIS! Of course they took their US-provided weapons and training with them, some of which will certainly be used against the rapidly increasing US military personnel in the region.

That Saudi Arabia is considered a suitable place to train Syria’s future leaders must be some kind of sick joke. While ISIS was beheading two American journalists – as horrific as that is – the repressive Saudi theocracy was beheading dozens of its own citizens, often for relatively minor or religious crimes.

If we want to stop radical terrorists from operating in Syria and Iraq, how about telling our ally Saudi Arabia to stop funding and training them? For that matter, how about the US government stops arming and training the various rebel groups in Syria and finally ends its 24 year US war on Iraq.

There are 200 million people bordering the countries where ISIS is currently operating. They are the ones facing the threat of ISIS activity and expansion. Let them fight their own war, rather than turning the US military into the mercenary army of wealthy Gulf states. Remember, they come over here because we are over there. So let’s not be over there any longer.

On the sixth day of Hate Week, after the processions, the speeches, the shouting, the singing, the banners, the posters, the films, the waxworks, the rolling of drums and squealing of trumpets, the tramp of marching feet, the grinding of the caterpillars of tanks, the roar of massed planes, the booming of guns — after six days of this, when the great orgasm was quivering to its climax and the general hatred of Al-Qaida had boiled up into such delirium that if the crowd could have got their hands on the 2,000 Al-Qaida terrorists who were to be killed in drone strikes on the last day of the proceedings, they would unquestionably have torn them to pieces — at just this moment it had been announced that Oceania was not after all at war with Al-Qaida. Oceania was at war with ISIS. Al-Qaida was an ally.

There was, of course, no admission that any change had taken place. Merely it became known, with extreme suddenness and everywhere at once, that ISIS and not Al-Qaida was the enemy. Winston was taking part in a demonstration in one of the central London squares at the moment when it happened. It was night, and the white faces and the scarlet banners were luridly floodlit. The square was packed with several thousand people, including a block of about a thousand schoolchildren in the uniform of the Spies. On a scarlet-draped platform an orator of the Inner Party, a small lean man with disproportionately long arms and a large bald skull over which a few lank locks straggled, was haranguing the crowd. A little Rumpelstiltskin figure, contorted with hatred, he gripped the neck of the microphone with one hand while the other, enormous at the end of a bony arm, clawed the air menacingly above his head. His voice, made metallic by the amplifiers, boomed forth an endless catalogue of atrocities, massacres, deportations, lootings, rapings, torture of prisoners, bombing of civilians, lying propaganda, unjust aggressions, broken treaties. It was almost impossible to listen to him without being first convinced and then maddened. At every few moments the fury of the crowd boiled over and the voice of the speaker was drowned by a wild beast-like roaring that rose uncontrollably from thousands of throats. The most savage yells of all came from the schoolchildren. The speech had been proceeding for perhaps twenty minutes when a messenger hurried on to the platform and a scrap of paper was slipped into the speaker’s hand. He unrolled and read it without pausing in his speech. Nothing altered in his voice or manner, or in the content of what he was saying, but suddenly the names were different. Without words said, a wave of understanding rippled through the crowd. Oceania was at war with ISIS! The next moment there was a tremendous commotion. The banners and posters with which the square was decorated were all wrong! Quite half of them had the wrong faces on them. It was sabotage! The agents of Goldstein had been at work! There was a riotous interlude while posters were ripped from the walls, banners torn to shreds and trampled underfoot. The Spies performed prodigies of activity in clambering over the rooftops and cutting the streamers that fluttered from the chimneys. But within two or three minutes it was all over. The orator, still gripping the neck of the microphone, his shoulders hunched forward, his free hand clawing at the air, had gone straight on with his speech. One minute more, and the feral roars of rage were again bursting from the crowd. The Hate continued exactly as before, except that the target had been changed.

The thing that impressed Winston in looking back was that the speaker had switched from one line to the other actually in midsentence, not only without a pause, but without even breaking the syntax. But at the moment he had other things to preoccupy him. It was during the moment of disorder while the posters were being torn down that a man whose face he did not see had tapped him on the shoulder and said, ‘Excuse me, I think you’ve dropped your brief-case.’ He took the brief-case abstractedly, without speaking. He knew that it would be days before he had an opportunity to look inside it. The instant that the demonstration was over he went straight to the Ministry of Truth, though the time was now nearly twenty-three hours. The entire staff of the Ministry had done likewise. The orders already issuing from the telescreen, recalling them to their posts, were hardly necessary.

Oceania was at war with ISIS: Oceania had always been at war with ISIS.

We are always at war.  War in our perspectives and loyalties against propaganda.  War against the machine of law that will encircle us without knowledge and resolve.  War against the subtle persuasions which seek to steal our children away.  War within ourselves to wring truth from the distorted world others present to us.

Peace only comes in the grave.

Sounds like you know war from the perspective of a country that has been abused by colonizing powers.

I didn't recognize those words from an philosophy or spiritual writing. I would imagine that Bedouins or those from the Middle East might have this perspective.

Recently someone described selling bonds on wall street or selling public stock in their company ... as putting their city, county, state, or company in A-Cemetric Warfare.

Warfare that comes from all directions and comes in all forms.

We did not rise in the 21st Century to limiting war to Economics. Today in the Middle East, Ukraine, Russia, we see the full development of war.

You're right. That would be America's salvation, but it implies a strong regulating state, something you'll never get Americans to understand. The free trade dogma they suck with their mother's milk says that nothing can hinder the market, therefore you can't control either wealthy people or corporations (that would be against "freedom"). And the "rule of law" they idealize won't work either. Any company with sufficient money will bribe lawmakers to change the laws in its favor until, eventually, corporations rule the state itself, as is the case nowadays. So it's back to square one: the reign of the big corporations.

Now that France and the US are bombing buddies doing the high tech Hoochie-Koochie, (Ya put yer left foot, in, Yah put yer left foot out ...) if ISIS is being backed and funded by any major power then its a dead certainty that they have access, one way or another, to a wide range of retaliatory weapons not limited to devices that go boom, and not limited by the geographical dispersion of targets. While those weapons would have fingerprints if used, if they came from very old Soviet stockpiles they would be untracable.

And at least poison gas, if not also biologicals, have already been used in the region. It requires no imagination to come up with realistic scenarious for their use beyond the region. The spell has been broken. That Genie is out of the bottle.

Rachel Maddow might be CIA. I've seen some pretty slanted story telling coming from her.

Did you ever hear of Operation Midnight Climax & using Honey Traps. That might be Maddow, but you know... for the other side.

Operation Midnight Climax, the CIA set up several brothels in San Francisco, California to obtain a selection of men who would be too embarrassed to talk about the events. The men were dosed with LSD, the brothels were equipped with one-way mirrors, and the sessions were filmed for later viewing and study.[35] In other experiments where people were given LSD without their knowledge

I like Ron Paul.  He makes a lot of sense.  But I think there are things that some of his supporters don't get.

Ron Paul is NOT a pacifist.  Ron Paul is NOT an isolationist.

He is a capitalist and free marketeer.  Capitalism requires the protection of capital.  Free markets require access to markets and the protection and facilitation of free trade.

The U.S. Marines were created to, among other things, protect American capital and American trade by hating on the Barbary pirates and kicking butt.

The message of Ron Paul is not "war is always bad and should be avoided at all costs".

The message of Ron Paul is "carry a big stick and pick those fights that are in your interests, i.e., protect your capital and facilitate free trade."

The only time I ever saw Ron Paul ANGRY was during the debate, ha ha, in the House during the 2006 Israeli bombing of civilians and infrastructure of Lebanon. The resolution under consideration, was SUPPORT for Israel's bombing, using OUR munitions of course, which George W Bush immediately sent a huge resupply of CLUSTER bombs to the brave little ally, the ONLY democracy, which of course is a JEWISH state, but they don't like America being a WHITE nation, oh no that is why they changed our immigration law in 1965.

So Paul finally got the chance to speak and he was PISSED OFF, the, as he called it, illegal maneuverings and vote set-up, the anger showed on his face. Ron Paul was HEROIC that day, sadly his son didn't take after his daddy, few sons do.

How long has Ron Paul been a Congresspeep?

Exactly which pieces of legislature has he sponsored and which have been enacted?

Demonstrative evidence shows Ron Paul is ineffective and should step aside.

The fact that he has never sponsored any piece of legislation that calls for the taking of wealth from one group of poeple to give to another - the very types of legislation that you can only be referring to, demonstates that you are either on the wrong website, or, don't understand a fucking thing ron paul has ever stood for.  Infomr yourself or STFU.  I imagine what he has forgotten you still have to learn.

To this point the training was carried out by the CIA in Jordan and Turkey. Now, the program will be moved to the Pentagon and to Saudi Arabia.

At least some of the training has been carried out in Qatar.

Too much common sense for the Beltway.

Well, we are moving in the right direction; after spending trillions and trillions of dollars, we're down to just spending billions and billions of dollars!  Question: If not many people are working and those that are aren't making much money, not a lot of people pay taxes, and connected corporations sure don't pay taxes - where in the hell is the money coming from?  Did I miss the War Bond commercials?....

Ron Paul is often branded as a loony by the media. It was only the efforts of

Jon Stewart's show and others that the media " backpaging" him during the election

campaign was exposed. The Repub's were terrified of him because he does go off-script.

If the man is nuts why does he keep getting re-elected? THREE DECADES?

Must be doing something right...It bugs me he is from Texas, but there ya are....

Ron Paul has a valid point as the French learned after years in Algeria. When they left the resistance and anger melted away.

The catalyst for war has not been diminished as many people have hoped it would once the world matured. National pride, political agendas, religious and ethnic hatreds are some of the biggest roadblocks to world peace. Often we seem to forget as we look back to World War II and past a dozen "lesser Conflicts" peace has been the exception rather then the rule for hundreds and thousands of years.

The true reality is that across the world few mothers want to see their children killed and most farmers want to be left along to raise their crops and earn a living. More on the subject of war as a solution to conflict in the article below.

According to a report published in Reuters, the group known as ISIS may have actually been trained over the last two years by the United States government in Jordan. It would be quite ironic if the United States was actually responsible for the training those now destabilizing the Iraqi nation. It was not known whether those doing the training were direct members of the US government or if they worked for a private firm, but the main focus of the training was on anti-tank weaponry. The report continues that 200 men were trained at the facility and that over 1200 were to be added in a plan to prepare to free Syria from the rule of President Bashar Al-Assad. French and British advisors were present as well to aid in the training and according to Jordanian intelligence sources the program was designed to create fighters to be a part of the ISIS group.

Arizona Senator John McCain even paid a visit to the group during training to show his support. McCain was photographed with General Salim Idris, who was later expelled from the group because he was seen as too moderate for them. The new leader of the group is General Ibrahim al-Douri. He was the Vice-President of the Revolutionary Council under former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein and was supposed to be the successor to Hussein. Al-Douri has been on the US most wanted list since the second Gulf War began and many inside the United States government thought he was dead. It appears he now has a huge war chest at his disposal, which has come from US allies, including Kuwait, Qatar and Saudi Arabia. These are all Sunni based countries which support the ISIS group out of frustration over President Barak Obama’s failure to oust Al-Assad. More on ISIS in the article below.
