The Rise Of The Teenage Intern: How China Keeps 'iGadget' Costs Down

Tyler Durden's picture

China is increasingly relying on 'student interns' to make gadgets like iPhones in Western China, according to The Wall Street Journal, where lower wages make it harder to attract 'real' migrant workers. As the following brief clip explains, the government has created 'vocational' schools in very rural areas of China for high-school students but the quality of education (and 'jobs') is not what they had hoped...

So with that in mind, we hope you enjoy your iPhone 6 plus...

“We want one class of persons to have a liberal education, and we want another class of persons, a very much larger class of necessity in every society, to forgo the privilege of a liberal education and fit themselves to perform specific difficult manual tasks.”

It seems to be a round-about way to exploit child labor and using PR

make it appear to be educational, but they just got busted.

Must be why new iPhones are bending in people's pockets.

Just a few days and we have Bendgate.

Do a quick search on Bendgate and laugh your ass off. We'll see if it has any effect on the most overvalued corporation in world history.

LOL!  Is it any worse than Amerika's feral Kardashian yutes getting into lifetime slavery debts while the morons cheer on State U as they become lifetime debtor-serfs. Someone has to pay for those illiterate tenured college professors' golden pension plans plus the college administrators taking home big bucks.  They have a lifetime to pay off their coolege edukayshun.

As long as the team gets into a bowl game then life is good.  Any bowl game will do.

Motel 6 Mango Bowl played in Bismarck on New Years Eve.  Watched by millions of serf idiots on ESPN 4.

Chinese tourists, besotted with image of Paris, find harsher reality Some Chinese are targeted and attacked by thieves. Others encounter indifference or rudeness, and some vow not to return.

PARIS — Before arriving in the French capital, Wu Shuyun, a 56-year-old Chinese housewife, imagined Paris to be like a pristine film set for a romantic love story, picturing herself as a glamorous princess surrounded by elegant Parisians, decked out, perhaps, in Chanel.

Instead, Wu from Kunming in southwest China, said she was shocked by the cigarette butts and dog manure, the rude insouciance of the locals and the gratuitous public displays of affection. Though friends had warned her about thieves targeting Chinese people, she said she was nevertheless surprised when a member of her tour group was mugged on a packed Metro car, as other riders watched.

They are targets for sure; remember the Chinese grad student beaten to death by several illegal Mexicans? [ok, only 2 of the five were illegals]. How about the Chinese 56 y.o. UNC cancer research professor beaten to death by 2 of Al Sharpton's Boyz 1 block from campus during his lunch break? Both "had long arrest records." Chapel Hill used to be a safe place before it became, "more diverse."

Even in my neighborhood they're starting to be attacked by Thugs, for example, as they walk out of the gorcery store carrying packages.

The world is getting more dangerous in every corner.

They are not that clever, if they were they would allow the students to take a loan to pay them for supplying the valuable training and references for the future.

pffff...I worked on a farm shoveling shit when I was in Junior high, in high school I pumped gas at a gas station. Whats the big deal? At 15, I picked up trash at an amusement park for $1.40 an hour during the summer. One of the funnest jobs I ever had. Trash crew ended our shift just as the park opened. We had the run of the whole park.

This is not lost on me.  Alternet still loves O so they are total douchebags.  ZH is not cheering Obama or the Bush klan or the Clintons.   But we can all agree on bombing a country illegally based on a bogus group created by the USA.  The left cheering Obam's bombing and the right (foolishly) cheering the military.

Do it for the kids because ISIS is such a threat.  The public is so easily manipulated with TV which I never watch.

"Hi income Hi wage service sector job"

That statement alone pretty much discredits anything this guy has to say.

I worked in a co-op program during my senior year in high school, it was a great opportunity to learn a trade. I later went on into engineering but may not if I didnt get the experience to start with.

Not everyone aspires to be a CEO. I think this opportunity is great for these kids. Some will advance and start their own company, others will work for those few.

Hard to believe 14 year olds don't jump at the chance of this "vocational training"; namely, standing 16 hours a day snapping apple components together or squinting for 14 hours to see the minute thingies they have to solder togther for the whopping salary of what, $2,000/year?$4,000/year?

Imagine that!

Who knows where these "vocational skills" can lead them?!

These are NOT interns, they are barely paid and MUST take the position or their school does not give them the degree. Kickbacks all around for the school leaders, who treat the students as feudal chattel.
