Syria Is 7th (Muslim) Country Bombed By 2009 Nobel Peace Prize Winner

Tyler Durden's picture

Authored by Glenn Greenwald, originally posted at The Intercept,

The U.S. today began bombing targets inside Syria, in concert with its lovely and inspiring group of five allied regimes: Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Jordan.

That means that Syria becomes the 7th predominantly Muslim country bombed by the 2009 Nobel Peace Laureate – after Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen, Somalia, Libya and Iraq.

The utter lack of interest in what possible legal authority Obama has to bomb Syria is telling indeed: empires bomb who they want, when they want, for whatever reason (indeed, recall that Obama bombed Libya even after Congress explicitly voted against authorization to use force, and very few people seemed to mind that abject act of lawlessness; constitutional constraints are not for warriors and emperors).

It was just over a year ago that Obama officials were insisting that bombing and attacking Assad was a moral and strategic imperative. Instead, Obama is now bombing Assad’s enemies while politely informing his regime of its targets in advance. It seems irrelevant on whom the U.S. wages war; what matters it that it be at war, always and forever.

Six weeks of bombing hasn’t budged ISIS in Iraq, but it has caused ISIS recruitment to soar. That’s all predictable: the U.S. has known for years that what fuels and strengthens anti-American sentiment (and thus anti-American extremism) is exactly what they keep doing: aggression in that region. If you know that, then they know that. At this point, it’s more rational to say they do all of this not despite triggering those outcomes, but because of it. Continuously creating and strengthening enemies is a feature, not a bug, as it is what then justifies the ongoing greasing of the profitable and power-vesting machine of Endless War.

If there is anyone who actually believes that the point of all of this is a moral crusade to vanquish the evil-doers of ISIS (as the U.S. fights alongside its close Saudi friends), please read Professor As’ad AbuKhalil’s explanation today of how Syria is a multi-tiered proxy war. As the disastrous Libya “intervention” should conclusively and permanently demonstrate, the U.S. does not bomb countries for humanitarian objectives. Humanitarianism is the pretense, not the purpose.

As I recall, he won the Nobel peace prize the same week he was given another award for having had the most transparent administration in history. A few days later the committee that granted him the award admitted it was a bit premature but was based on his 'promise' to have the most transparent administration. Eventually, he accepted the award behind closed doors due to the ridicule.

And then, everyone wonders why on sweet, dear earth country after country is buying masses of weapons, in order to be armed to the teeth. Think "mandatory protection against the USA going rogue" and you'll see the logic.

Absolutely.  There is no limit, no restrictions whatsoever on which country the USA will bomb.  If our "leaders" feel it's convenient to use the cover of the UN, they use the UN (though they were NEVER given permission to overthrow Gaddafi nor bomb Libya, only to establish a no-fly zone, so they don't even follow the very resolution they get passed), or they use NATO, or they use "terrorism", it doesn't freaking matter anymore.  Congress is utterly emasculated and willingly fund all these moves.   Our government has little to do with the people anymore.

Hmm.  The war with Japan was ended with bombing.  North Vietnam sued for a peace accord PDQ after Nixon got in charge of the military and did the sane and logical and humanitarian thing, I.e. fighting to win.  SADDAM sued for peace when Martin Marietta and TI delivered the first batch of bunker busters developed skunk works style to take out the type of bunkers he and his favorites were hiding in.   Makes me think you are against winning wars per se, not so much use of bombing as tactic, because it clearly works.

You're wrong and he's right. the War with Japan was over when they were A-Bombed; this is completely obvious. The Pacific War was a Naval operation that was won by surface ships, submarines, and carrier air. (Air to ship attacks). the research on the European theater shows specifically that it was not, repeat, not won by bombing. bombing is a terror tactic.

TBT or not TBT ,

1) The bombings of Japan won nothing at all, as Japan had already surrendered. One wonders exactly why they bombed Japan. The war was certainly not the reason.

2) In North Vietnam, bombs DID NOT, I repeat DID NOT end the war.

No need for "Assad to declare war on the US", given that "the US has already declared War on Syria"The US actions are and "Act of War", and thus a DEFACTO STATE OF WAR exists between the two countries.

But I do agree that he should defend his country with all that he has, and see if Russia "mans up".  My sense is, Russia does not want a direct confrontation with the US in Syria, and that the Chinese would not let them either (by not backing them up).  Russia and China are either playing for time (game of global Brinskmanship), or they don't think they win head-on at this time. A shame that Assad has no WMDs left.  He shoulda kept some for a Rainy Day.

Seems to me that the US side knows this, and are playing it accordingly by exploiting the Middle ground.  The US is mixing up the game with Audibles from the Line of Scrimmage, and moving the ball and yardsticks rather effectively: some short passes, screens, reverse, toss to running backs...  No need to "Go for the Bomb".  Snap on 3:  Blue 38, blue 38!  Hut, huuut, hut!

Can you support that?  I don't think so.

They are people, people.   Just like us, they spend 99% of their time dealing with family, work, food, sex, drugs, and entertainment.  Just like us, when punished they escape when possible, and retaliate when escape is not possible.

And just like us, they make rational calculations.  Israel just low the recent war on Gaza because Hamas wouldn't cave, a 50 day war has hurt Israel's economy quite a lot.

When left in peace, they are often well-functioning multicultural societies, do I not recall that the Jews refused to leave Iran for Israel?  And that persecution of the Christian and other minority communities is done by the extremists, not the governments?

Read about the Stanford Prison experiment.  No culture lacks for torturers and extremists.  We proved that just recently, I believe.

Considering international diplomacy with war as a game, a game complexity analysis shows it to be impossibly difficult for human minds.

Nobody plays 3D or 3-way chess because you can't play enough games in a lifetime to even know whether you are getting better or not.  Chess has 16 pieces per side, a few types of moves per piece, 64 squares on the board, alternating moves.

International diplomacy with war has perhaps a dozen sides, each with many pieces : army units, economic units, political units, ...  Each piece has very many possible moves.  The board is the size of the whole world.  All pieces can make moves simultaneously.

International diplomacy with war, considered as a game, makes 3D chess look as simple as tic-tac-toe.  There is no way individuals can play that game, and adding more brains of IQ 200 won't help.

To play that game is to lose.  The only rational strategy is to be a neutral nation.

In fact, they've already bombed Al-Nusra (Al Qaeda offshoot allegedly) groups who, according to our "regime", were plotting an imminent attack on the fadderland.  So basically we are bombing whoever the hell we feel like, probably now including the "moderate rebels" who we will then send money, weapons and training to.  No doubt they will be sneaking in some tomahawks on Assad's assets as well, but those moves will NOT be reported.

It's time for common criminals (every citizen not in the establishment) to kick the ass of the establishment criminals.

What really amazes me is a handful of posters at ZH keep on insisting that Obozo is a muslim.

Whether or not he is muslim is up for debate, but that he is a zionist, whether or not he wants to be one, is not. They sat his ass down in the oval office on day one and told him he will follow orders from the CIA and Mossad. If he asks questions or fails to follow through, they would JFK him.

Don't try to make him a martyr or a victim.  He's another pig, that's all.  Completely manufactrured, coming out of nowhere, no record, installed as president.  Plays golf while the controllers do their thing.  Other presidents at least tried to appear in charge.  Who the fuck actually makes the decisions in this regime?

He tilts his head back as he puts his feet up on the oval office desk, juts out his chin and brags: "Turns out I'm really good at killin' people."

There you have it.  There's your President, the empty suit. The coward.  The man without a past.  Nobel Peace Prize winner for deeds never done.  The slacker.  The golfer.  Mr. Stompy feet.  The man whose actions never follow his words.  The embarrassment, the pathetic loser.

In your own personal lives, how many people think you are a knob?  That bloke that thinks he knows it all yet knows nothing?  Thats a knob.

How many people think you are a wanker?  A bloke that does all the above but makes it well aware you know it too?  Now thats a wanker.

How many people think you are a cunt?  Now that takes some doing not even those above could comprehend.  You know what makes you a cunt?  Like the smiling, malnitritiononilised vacant wanker above?  The fucking idiot puppet that accepts a pieces prize for blowing the world up, and not even fucking knowing.  Its a fucking sin we allow this, Dog wouldnt approve.

This fucking clown could damn well be the end of us all, he doesnt know it, most wont accept it, and the vast majority couldnt care.

Thats a cunt.  Faceless, senseless, moronic, imbecilic cunt.

We really are fucked.

NOTE1:  All of USA's "Partners in the Bombings" are tied in with vested interests in the "Peninsula Pipeline to Europe" Scheme.  It's natural that they wish to Replace/"Curry Favor with" SYR since they wanted their Oil - rather than Assad's Friend IRN's - to go through there.

HOWEVER, since ISIL is hostile towards the Pro-IRN Shia, ISIL's previous existence as a Saboteur Force may have been set up to stymie the IRN/IRQ/SYR Pipeline.  This reads as if ISIL became "Politically Self Aware/Sentient"; and have decided to take a bigger piece of the Pie for themselves.  Hence Team_PetroDollar's response to have ISIL's Leadership Killed Off; and remnants tamed.

NOTE2:  This serves as a contination of PNAC's 7-Nation Sabotage/Chaos Plan as well.

SSDD...
