Obamacare Architect Says Society Would Be Better Off If People Died At 75

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Michael Snyder of The American Dream blog,

Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, brother of Rahm Emanuel, says that society would be far better off if people quit trying to live past age 75.  His new article entitled “Why I Hope To Die At 75” has the following very creepy subtitle: “An argument that society and families—and you - will be better off if nature takes its course swiftly and promptly”.  In the article, Emanuel forcefully argues that the quality of life for most people is significantly diminished past the age of 75 and that once we get to that age we should refuse any more medical care that will extend our lifespans.  This is quite chilling to read, considering the fact that this is coming from one of the key architects of Obamacare Of course he never uses the term “death panels” in his article, but that is obviously what Emanuel would want in a perfect world.  To Emanuel, it is inefficient to waste medical resources on those that do not have a high “quality of life”.  So he says that “75 is a pretty good age to aim to stop”.

Emanuel believes in this philosophy so much that he says that he would like to die at age 75.  Of course he has no intention of committing suicide, but if he happened to drop dead once he hits his 75th birthday he would be very happy about that.  The following is an excerpt from his new article

I am talking about how long I want to live and the kind and amount of health care I will consent to after 75. Americans seem to be obsessed with exercising, doing mental puzzles, consuming various juice and protein concoctions, sticking to strict diets, and popping vitamins and supplements, all in a valiant effort to cheat death and prolong life as long as possible. This has become so pervasive that it now defines a cultural type: what I call the American immortal.

I reject this aspiration. I think this manic desperation to endlessly extend life is misguided and potentially destructive. For many reasons, 75 is a pretty good age to aim to stop.

And so Emanuel plans to start rejecting pretty much all medical tests and treatments that will prolong his life once he reaches that age

At 75 and beyond, I will need a good reason to even visit the doctor and take any medical test or treatment, no matter how routine and painless. And that good reason is not “It will prolong your life.” I will stop getting any regular preventive tests, screenings, or interventions. I will accept only palliative—not curative—treatments if I am suffering pain or other disability.

This means colonoscopies and other cancer-screening tests are out—and before 75. If I were diagnosed with cancer now, at 57, I would probably be treated, unless the prognosis was very poor. But 65 will be my last colonoscopy. No screening for prostate cancer at any age. (When a urologist gave me a PSA test even after I said I wasn’t interested and called me with the results, I hung up before he could tell me. He ordered the test for himself, I told him, not for me.) After 75, if I develop cancer, I will refuse treatment.

Similarly, no cardiac stress test. No pacemaker and certainly no implantable defibrillator. No heart-valve replacement or bypass surgery. If I develop emphysema or some similar disease that involves frequent exacerbations that would, normally, land me in the hospital, I will accept treatment to ameliorate the discomfort caused by the feeling of suffocation, but will refuse to be hauled off.

A couple of decades ago, an article like this would have sparked mass public outrage.

But today, this article hardly even gets any attention.

That is because this kind of philosophy has spread everywhere.  It is being taught at colleges and universities across the United States and it is even represented throughout the ranks of the Obama administration.

For example, Barack Obama’s top science adviser John P. Holdren believes that implanting sterilization capsules under the skin of women could be a way to reduce the size of the population and increase the quality of life for everyone…

A program of sterilizing women after their second or third child, despite the relatively greater difficulty of the operation than vasectomy, might be easier to implement than trying to sterilize men.

The development of a long-term sterilizing capsule that could be implanted under the skin and removed when pregnancy is desired opens additional possibilities for coercive fertility control. The capsule could be implanted at puberty and might be removable, with official permission, for a limited number of births.

Yes, this guy is a total nutjob.

But he also has the ear of the man occupying the White House.

And we are not just talking about a few isolated crazies like Holdren.  This agenda have been fully embraced by our politicians in Washington.

For instance, did you know that the federal government actually has an “Office of Population Affairs“?

On the website of the Office of Population Affairs, you can find information about abortion, female sterilization, male sterilization and a vast array of contraceptive choices.

U.S. taxpayers are paying for all of this, but most people don’t even know that it exists.

Of course this agenda has been moved forward by both Democrats and Republicans for decades.

And the woman that is very likely to be our next president is also a very strong proponent of this philosophy.

When Hillary Clinton accepted Planned Parenthood’s Margaret Sanger Award back in 2009, she spoke glowingly of Sanger…

In a speech to the Planned Parenthood Federation of America Awards Gala, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said that she admires “Margaret Sanger enormously, her courage, her tenacity, her vision.” Secretary Clinton said she is “really in awe of” Sanger for Sanger’s early work in Brooklyn, New York, “taking on archetypes, taking on attitudes and accusations flowing from all directions.”

But the truth is that Sanger was deeply racist and was determined to do whatever she could to help control the population growth of the poor.  The following is one of her most famous statements

“The most merciful thing that the large family does to one of its infant members is to kill it.”

Hillary Clinton is also a huge supporter of the United Nations Population Fund.  If you are not familiar with the United Nations Population Fund, it is an organization that funds abortion, forced sterilization and brutal eugenics programs throughout the developing world.

Population control advocates such as Emanuel, Holdren and Clinton are fully convinced that they are doing the right thing.

They actually believe that the world will be a better place if less people are born and if the elderly do not live as long.

Another case of dumb as dicks. So if you know thay are gonna smoke ya at 75. At 74 and 364 you are free to do who or whatever you feel like. Great plan. Not the long term thinker are ya boy.

This is a fine example of not thinking things thru. It sounds like a great idea to me. Give the oldest and wisest the freedom to do whats best for thier children and grand children. Yeppers a great idea. It would be open season on assholes. This works for me.

It all depends on which "I" he is referring to.  If it is the elitist progressive "I" then he is a philosopher king , we need his sage counsel desperately and he must be given the highest quality care available ad infinitum.  If it is the Joe/Jane Sixpack "I" then he is speaking for us mundanes cuz he knows best how to conduct a progressive, Margaret Sanger style triage!!!  I notice that he has about 18 years left on his meter if he accepts the mundane ground rules for himself as an individual.

All hail Progressive Globalist.  They know exactly what we all need, when we need it, how we need it and how much we need of every single thing in the universe and also when we should stop wanting or needing it.

There is nothing new about these ideas.  They are being dusted off and repackaged as emanating from the greatest minds of modern thought.  However if you look close enough and know your history then you can see very similar, if not exact notions that were put forth by a certain group of Germans during the 1920's and 30's.   They did a great deal of research on humans that were kept but deemed too despicable to view and gain knowledge from.   Horrendous methods used to discover, catalogue and classify information deemed unfit for human consumption, yet oddly never destroyed.  Tucked away, denied and long forgotten by current generations, governments dusted off the cobwebs just to take a peak when the time was right.   We all know that the leading German scientist of the time were quietly smuggled to countries like the US and USSR in order to clarify the information concerning radiation knowledge, rocket science and bomb making but nothing was ever mentioned about the "mad scientist's" that conducted human experiments and where those guys ended up even though one could guess their knowledge has been put to use by certain spy agencies around the globe.

Shhhh, don't utter the N-word for fear of being labeled as a tin foil wearing nut job by Authority, but we know.  We all know.

I was waiting for Zero Hedge to get this one, what took you so long:) Yes Ezekiel Emanual is a jerk.  Everyone hates him and yes he had a lot of impact on the ACA and I have this nice little former CMS employee who's been filling my ears on how bad this is.  First off you do have to recognize that Zeke is walking, talking commercial for United Healthcare.  Query him on the web and you'll see it.  They want to quantitate everything and stratify our existence in the US and sure it's right there with this fool.

By the way, old Zeke has a father in his 80s, do you see him running out cutting cords to end his existence?  This guy's a jerk.  In addition, let me note that his brother was former chief of staff for Obama and is now the Mayor of Illionois and you cant make this stuff up.  His brother just signed a pledge as one Members of the Best Cities for Successful Aging.  I guess Rahm Emanuel better check with Zeke and see if it's ok to age there if you surpass the age of 75.

http://www.milkeninstitute.org/publications/view/658

United Healthcare has been hiding and growing in plain site in the US for years and is now a "too big to fail insurer" and yeah the scrub my blog every day.  This all started with Hillary Clinton who opened the door to United and their relationships with CMS and government and they just kept coming.  If you go back to 2008 you will see that United Healthcare I think still has the biggest derivatives fine on record with former CEO taking the hit. The number two person at United at that time was Lois Quam and there's the door opener with government to United Healthcare.  She was named on the court case as well as the current CEO of United and Hillary rescued and hired her.  Her ex ran for governor in Minnesota.  Ever since she got the job, the United Healthcare folks have flowed in.

CMS for years when they needed help on their models relied on United Healthcare to build them for them.  This is scary and when you see population health, well that's an old United Healthcare model that I saw years ago.  I was an EMR developer and saw the solicitation of population health in its early stages with brochure sitting on an MD's desk.  This is not new and it's the bill of goods United has sold to CMS.  Most all who worked at CMS hated to see Zeke coming around during the work of creating the ACA.

The number 2 person at CMS now is a man named Andy Slavitt who at the time when the AMA sued United was the CEO of their subsidiary Ingenix.  What happened there were risk fiddler algos where doctors and patients were paid short for 15 years and Cuomo found it.  In addition, Blue Cross, Aetna and more licensed it from United.

There are still more lawsuits and here's a link to a division of Blue Cross that was "still" using the formulations until recently, when almost every other insurer had stopped. I have tons of posts on my blog, been following all of this for over 7 years and have member of Congress now looking around at some of it.  I don't know how good having Elizabeth Warren is for some of this since her daughter made good money at United Healthcare too.  There's some background links at the post below on the AMA lawsuit too.

http://ducknetweb.blogspot.com/2014/08/ingenix-optum-united-healthcare.html

Good old Zeke as I said is walking talking commercial for all of this so a lot of what you see at CMS originated from United Healthcare models, been going on for years and its' very scary.  If you want further verification on some of this look at the United 4th quarter results and their pdfs they wrote, one of which is 90 pages on how to care for children with all the quantitated percentiles and so forth, like I said been hiding out in the open for years.

A little bit more on the Wall Street style quant risk fiddlers is here with CMS auditor finding out that for 5 years the insurers were automating an algorithm to allow for extra money on Medicare Advantage, and the amount is around $70 billion that the insurers received over a period of 5 years, so about $14 billion a year which sounds about like the total profits made by insurers over that time span.  Well now it's gone and what a racket to know you could do this and when you get caught, nothing will really happen with fraud filings as the insurers would just further reduce services to seniors as their Ace in the pocket.  This may give you some second thoughts with buying their stocks perhaps but you can decide that for yourself.

http://ducknetweb.blogspot.com/2014/08/cms-discovers-that-insurers-offer...

In addition, we have had the algorithmic firing of doctors all over the country from United and they won't talk give any indication as to what their parameters are, the secret scoring of Mediccare Advantage doctors in the US and keep in mind old Zeke is the walking talking commercial for everything United/Optum does.  Opium is their subsidiary company which does not do insurance and accounts for 1/3 of the corporation's profits.

http://ducknetweb.blogspot.com/2014/08/the-secret-scoring-of-americas.html

Basically you can maybe say that HHS/CMS has been invaded by "algorithmic crooks" if you will.  That is how the Optum Insights side works, just like Quants with hedge funds in finding a way to squeak out money.

Again old Zeke had a lot of input and impact on the creation of the ACA and the models.  He's a true danger out there and I'm glad he made a public ass of himself to expose this.  My little former CMS employee is just beside herself with fear as she lived through and worked on some of this and knows what occurred and yes she's credible.

So in short you can thank old Hillary for letting nutcases like this in the door when she brought Lois Quam in from United.  Lois was also the head of the failed Obama World Health organization campaign that lasted about 2 years as it didn't work.  She's now at the US Nature Observancy agency as the COO to see what damage she can spread over there and you could almost bet she's still involved in healthcare.  Google the court case and you will see Lois right on the filing as one of the defendents with the DOJ along with the current CEO and a few other executives.

So again Zeke is an idiot, the walking talking commercial for Optum and helped United get a stronghold in there with some of what was written in the ACA.

Here's a link to show how United stayed under the radar with creating and buying one subsidiary after another.  Again they didn't hide it, but rather just the fact that people are asleep at the wheel and all their quantitated madness is what we got and what CMS bought.  The only good thing here now is that the United/CMS models are failing right and left to where their quantitated justifcations they wrote about in studies by the Lewin group, (also owned by United) are useless.  We bought all though and their fictitional justifcations and blasted numbers of savings that of course never came to be.

http://ducknetweb.blogspot.com/2013/07/health-insurance-business-under-r...

It's important to know how this nutcase is connected and how the rest of this evolved.  You might guess while his brother was chief of staff to Obama, that could have opened the door even a bit further for him to lobby and do whatever nutty stuff he did.  His writings and influence on CMS/HHS should be barred forever.  The algorithmic crooks attack in healthcare just like they do in markets.

One other related post which might be of iinterest is the government is ready to file suit against Optum Hospice, so in the scheme of this, is this a good idea for a monster insurer to own a hospice company too?

One aspect that must also be taken in when considering your personal future: The intusion into our medical system of foreign doctors. If you pull up the website for any hospital in the US and check the list of docs, you'll find that most of them are now foreign educated, and ¨recent"nationalized citizens (or maybe not: see: visa). In the last few years, I had a very bad flu that sent me to the ER where the foreign doc (Mexican) didn't even give me an aspirin, sending me to the local doc in the box where the (Asian) doc didnt seem to speak english although he seemed to understand me and he did give me some medication. Then there was the Russian doc who ignored my ¨concern¨ sending me, once again, looking for another doc, who properly treated me.

It is my opinion (and being aware of zerohedge's position on anything racially ¨insensitive¨, that if you are white and need medical care, you are in trouble in the US. Of course, combine that with the horrific lack of sanitation in most hospitals...Need an example of this one: I was sitting in the waiting area while a relative was having a baby. There was a small refrigerator and computer across from the chairs I was sitting in. The person who filled the refrigerator with various liquids in pouches (like hang down, some kind of fluids) would fill it some and then type into the computer and then fill it some and then type in the computer. No sanitation controls evident. Then a nurse came along with a water pitcher, put it down, typed into the computer and then picked up the pitcher again. How many germs were transferred in just that one situation, which happened all day as I sat there. The windows behind me were filthy and at no time over the course of more than 48 hours spent in that area did i see anyone wipe down the plastic chairs (that I sat in) or wipe down the computer or anything else in the area. Filthy. Filthy filthy. Good luck.

So, no doctor explained to you that the actual flu, influenza, can't be "cured" once you got it, you can only take fluids & rest?

There's no magic pill for it & aspirin will do nothing.

If you go from flu to also having pneumonia, the pneumonia can be treated.

"Then a nurse came along with a water pitcher, put it down, typed into the computer and then picked up the pitcher again. How many germs were transferred in just that one situation"

The same as everywhere else and if you had been careful enough beforehand you would maybe have not got sick at all.

I'm careful at all times with all surfaces about where any germ contact will happen & judge if my immune system will handle it, or not, and exercise caution always. That's called personal responsibility and preventative healthcare.

That's also another reason in Canada healthcare is so much more affordable. Quite a lot of us actually avoid getting sick to start with. We're told how & why and we pay attention.

But... Murrrrika, fuck yeah!

It doesn't surprise me one iota that Zeke Emanhole would make such a comment. Think about the constituency he represents, and what the demographic is.

He is all for opening our borders to illegal immigration from largely illiterate uneducated young people that are easily manipulated and malleable to garner votes for his party. Zeke has no qualms with young unemployed government dependant people having children on the U.S. taxpayer dime to garner votes for his party.

He's well aware that as people age, they gain wisdom, and with that intelligence. These attributes are like poison to Zeke and his ilk. They threaten free thinking, and the potential to expose them for the sham they really are.

Without any older people there's no one to pass on these qualities, or any semblance of reality to the future generations. This make it easier for our education system to indoctrinate the young, and illiterate.

Bored? I was bored of life at 15 but that's no reason to quit.

Survival instinct is more than fear: with no fear at all the purpose of one's life is to keep living. Every possible second.

Unless you're useless in which case: buh-bye.

The key factor here for the population control advocates is money for the smoother running of their special new world order. And the fact is, the elderly and the very young are not contributing to this economic plan, i.e., they can’t work. And, they cost the State money either to educate or to medicate.

Dr. Ezekial Emanuel, is not a difficult man to understand.  He clearly does not believe the State should pay expensive medical costs for individuals with terminal illnesses, aging people, or unschooled infants not yet trained...

His brand of bioethics begins with the selection of withholding medical treatment from individuals, not only on age or status of illness,  but on their worth as citizens.  Or to put it more simply, by the State on who deserves to live.  Dr. Emanuel makes it crystal clear,  just read the words he’s written.*  In the final analysis who would make these end-of-life decisions?

Dr. Emanuel argues that to make such decisions [whose life is worth saving], the focus cannot be only on the worth of the individual. He proposes adding the communitarian perspective to ensure that medical resources will be allocated in a way that keeps society going: ‘Substantively, it suggests services that promote the continuation of the polity—those that ensure healthy future generations, ensure development of practical reasoning skills, and ensure full and active participation by citizens in public deliberations—are to be socially guaranteed as basic. Covering services provided to individuals who are irreversibly prevented from being or becoming participating citizens are not basic, and should not be guaranteed. An obvious example is not guaranteeing health services to patients with dementia.’" (Hastings Center Report, November-December, 1996)

The bioethicist  also puts the youngest at the back of the line to the adolescent with state investment: "Adolescents have received substantial education and parental care, investments that will be wasted without a complete life…” (thelancet.com, Jan. 31, 2009).

Just let others decide when they want to die. If you want to provide health care to those who can't afford it the by all means do so , but stop using it as a license to force others to go along with you and for crying out loud stop using it as license to tell the beneficiaries how they need to live and die.

The horror is deafening. There is no more “civilized world.” And it’s not just the shattering of youthful ideals, but a very serious danger. Mankind has lost its values, turned into a mob of predators, and a huge war is simply a question of time.

Twenty years ago, we were not defeated. We surrendered. We did not lose militarily, but culturally. We really just wanted to be like them. Rock-n-roll did more than all the nuclear warheads. Hollywood was stronger than the threats and ultimatums. The roar of Harley-Davidsons during the Cold War was louder than the roar of jet fighters and bombers.

America, you are such a fool! All you had to do was wait twenty years — and we would have been forever yours. Twenty years of vegetarianism — and our politicians themselves would have handed over our nuclear weapons; even shaking your hands in gratitude for taking them away. What a blessing that you turned out to be such a fool, America!...."

He's bat-shit crazy!

I have not problem with people limiting by birth control their contribution to overpopulation.  I have a bit of a problem with who gets to decide the names of those who have to die, though.

For instance, whilst I never intended to be working at my present age, I found myself responsible for a few young descendants, and must continue their support until I am 80.  Once I get past that, I would still accept minor medical assists, so long as it didn't involve major surgery, or wildly expensive treatments.  At that point, I would prefer to go out into the woods and let nature "take care of me."  Palliative care would be fine.

I would not want to be asked to decide about you, though.  And hope you would not feel compelled to make decisions about my body.  Thank you all the same.

My grandmother lived to 103.  She was batty when she finally left us; but fun, and no harm to anybody.  Also, she did not consume any medical aid, being physically healthy (though having serious senility).  I don't really worry about how long I will last.  I do NOT want the government worrying about it either.  They have neither the right nor the abiility to make those choices.

The point is that people should be allowed to die when their quality of life sucks. If they are stuck in a bed shitting and pissing themselves all day long in utter mental confusion with no hope of recovery, than it is torture to keep them alive. If families desire to keep doing this it should be on their dollar.

Those who can take care of themselves and enjoy at least some of their current life should be helped as much as possible. That may happen at age 75, 85, 95, etc. Pegging an age is wrong.

http://blog.jonolan.net/politics/complete-lives-system/

That article quotes from it but here is the whole thing.

http://blog.jonolan.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/Where_Civic_Republica...

...

Dr. Emanuel’s Complete Lives methodology of applying his interpretation of both allocative and distributive justice to healthcare is put forth in the context of having scarce medical resources available. That’s an important consideration when reviewing his Complete Lives proposal; it is not meant to address the allocation and distribution of readily available and plentiful medical resources, only scarce ones. It is a two-tiered system divided between basic (guaranteed) and discretionary (not guaranteed) medical services.? Some citizens will receive only basic services while others will receive both basic and some discretionary health services.

...

Take that in context with this since both work in hand in hand.

http://pension360.org/wall-street-securitizes-pension-liabilities-to-cre...

...

Several firms are selling securities backed by longevity risk—the risk that retirees receiving benefits will live longer than expected and thus incur a higher cost on their retirement plan. More from Institutional Investor:

Sovereign wealth funds, educational endowments and ultrahigh-net-worth individuals are the target investors for longevity derivatives, which package the risk that retirees drawing annuities will outlive actuarial expectations.

...

Understand what actuarial expectations means concerning healthcare. They are also betting on retirees (sure bets) being off'd when the healthcare benefits are denied because of actuarial expectations. And look who is betting on it 'sovereign wealth funds' remember that assholes if you get another chance to vote for independence instead of having the spill a shitload of blood for it. It is these same type of people who that voted to stay dependent in Scotland are in the crosshairs here when it comes to the very dependent entity they voted to stay chained to when the time comes here. Most people would prefer to live a long life, but not too long. There is nothing wrong with a dignified death after a long life. The mores of America are rapidly changing according to those who only a decade ago thought that gay marriage and gays in the military would never become accepted. Sadly ideas like euthanasia still drives many Americans crazy.

With people living longer and technologies ability to extend a persons life well beyond where they feel it has any "real quality" the issue of euthanasia will not go away. One thing for sure the government should not be making these decisions. For on the subject of euthanasia in the article below.

Why not adopt the "Logan's Run" standard and bump everyone off once they reach 30?

"Hope I die 'fore I get old."  Line from a song sung in an era when young people counseled never to trust anyone over 30.  A funny thing happened to me on my way to becoming 30, then 50, now approaching the completion of my 10th cycle of 7 years on this planet in this physical body:  I found myself aging, for sure, though growing younger.  I have aged gradually, gracefully.  Another line from another song:  "I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now."  I seem to myself to have achieved a more youthful if wiser outlook on Life and Love and the like than I ever had before now.  I wish all of you the same, if you would accept it.  If not, then Soylent Green awaits, I have little doubt.

Let's see if Emmanual feels the same way if and when he gets to 75.

But he has some good points.  The medical profession milks the dying for all kinds of expensive procedures that may extend life for only a few months.  I'm in my 9th decade and only go to the doctor to renew my driver's license.

I have seen, in the deaths of older, close, relatives, the tendency, of the medical profession, to want to kill them off. It's here, quietly, but it's here.

That is much different than my own experience.  I've had several older relatives all suffering from Dementia and or Alzheimer's and the care takers were doing everything in their power, pharmacologically speaking to prolong their lives and their agony for as long as possible.  In one instance the nursing home preformed the life saving Heimlich Maneuver on my mother which prolonged her life by 8 months.  Disregarding advanced directive 'no heroics" living will she had made out well before her mental illness kicked in.   Granted this was several years before Obamacare so the "attitudes" may have changed greatly since then.   When I admonished the facility for what amounted to breaking the law they acted as if I were some sort of monster.  Totally disregarding the reality that my mother went to the trouble of going to a lawyer to draft  a legal document detailing explicit end of life wishes.  She didn't know who she was, who her children were, where she was, how old she was or what decade she was in and just a few weeks before the facility had called me at 2am complaining about her behavior as she was smearing her own feces on the walls of her facility.

Makes me wonder now how much human factor is really involved vs the stated goals of healthcare at the moment it is needed.  I witnessed my aunt, who had no such living will, suffering from Alzheimer's being hooked up to a feeding tube and lay in a vegetative state in her nursing home bed for 8 years and the facility's "hands were tied" because of laws.  Coincidentally she was private pay though I'm sure that had nothing to do with any decision made.  This was the early 80's and the experience led the rest of the family to seek legal council in order to manage end of life situations.  However, for my mother even those documents were ignored in the "heat of the moment"  This was but a few years ago and she was not private pay.  I think they billed the shit out of the state for every single thing.  She was a pauper having nothing but debts.  I requested she be take off all medication other than pain and sleep meds in order to keep her calm and comfortable.  The facility had her on cholesterol, BP, anti depressants along with all kinds of other shit that would be unnecessary for someone in her condition and stated they were mandated to keep her on all medication requested by her doctor regardless of directives, family wishes and even the person given legal medical responsibility in order to speak for her when she could no longer speak for herself.

I wonder what the Terry Shiavo opinion would be now versus what it was at that time?

Your experience is not universal.

When my 99 year old grandmother began rejecting food (common among Alzheimers patients), and losing weight, the nursing home staff kept bringing the food and seeing it either nibbled or untouched  and throwing it out.

She lost over 20 pounds in 6 weeks and I asked the nead nurse, "what are you going to do here". She calmly explained that they could insert a feeding tube "but that would merely postpone the end". I wanted to tell her that her indifference was unacceptable in a nurse (my wife is an RN) and she should go be an Obamacare bureaucrat with her attitude and that it wasn't like SHE missed a meal.

Instead, I said this is food, not extraordinary medical care, call the doctor. My grandmother died in her sleep six months later from heart failure, not starvation.

I didn't because I thought she'd go in my grandmother's room and quietly put a pillow over her face, so as not to delay the reaper on his rounds.

I don't see a problem with a feeding tube if that is what everyone involved wants AND the financial support comes from the family and not Medicare, Medicaid or an insurance fund. I personally do not want any extraordinary measures taken with my care, which I believe a feeding tube is considered. Everyone should have their wishes documented. I would venture to say that a decent percentage would not want a feeding tube at the end of life or to be resuscitated.

I think there is a split between the healthcare establishment doing what is prudent and milking a dying elderly patient for all they are worth. I think it depends on the morality of the staff and what kind of resources the patient has.

He seems to be incapable of comprehending that socialism/communism/collectivism as envisioned doesn't work, but recognizes there are limits to what society can afford.  And inspite of that limitation, he feels qualified to tell other people what to do. Creating a system reasonably expected to fail from the start seems to be proof of incompetence or corruption.

He also advocates the same treatment for those UNDER 15 years as they do not contribute to the state. Why do you suppose the bastards are calling you CONSUMERS? You consume healthcare in their minds and if you can't pull your own weight for the state then you are a burden. You NEVER EVER want to be a burden for the state...

Is population really that out of control?

The narrative on Japan, US and other mature western style governments is that the population skew is so lopsided toward the old folks that there has been concern about replacements.   If that is the problem I suspect if we just wait another decade then problem solves itself.

The earth can't be that crowded as there is so much of the open land going unused in America alone which wouldnt be the case if roominess were a problem as squaters desparte for elbow room would be taking over.  Not so.  Plenty of open land so it can't really be about lack of space.

Oddly the same folks worried about overpopulation of the Earth are also convinced of impending hell fire and doom due to Global Warming.  Seems as if one problem pretty much solves the other if that narrative were to be believed.  Hmmm...  Wow this is really complicated.

The Chinese even enacted the 1 baby law for decades because of overpopulation concerns to the mockery and admonition of the rest of the world.  The most vocal I suspect being the most concerned about overpopulation now.   So were the Chinese right?  I doubt we can get someone to go that far.  Got to keep digging... What could it be?

We've tried Peak Resources, Peak Climate, Peak War, Peak Freedom, Peak Totalitarianism, Peak Drugs, Peak War on Terror.  We were even led to believe Peak Bush was the problem.  If only he were vanquished the worlds problems would be solved.   Dang it,  after 6 Bushless years, nothing seems to be working, while all seems to be lost and broken.  Damned frustrating world problems.

Maybe a bigger picture?  I wonder if it could be possible that the Globalist Elites, whomever they may be, have just thrown up there hands and decided to quit hiding anymore and come out and decree that, Peak Common People is the real enemy.  Too many of them.  Is that possible? Could we be the frogs sitting in warm water..., no wait is that boiling water?  Is there an optimal number that has been determined, sort of the Law of Diminishing Returns for Common People.  Is it possible that some algorithm exists that determines the correct number of "serfs" for each region, zone or District whatever the Authority wants to call it?   Is it possible that overpopulation isn't the problem for the earth, just a problem for these Elite Global Rulers?  Too many to rule, not the right "product mix" for an efficient earth.  Hmmm...

Nah, it's probably just the brain tumors, the pain meds, Hunger Games and 1984 making my brain go crazy places.  That' ok, you won't have me to kick around much longer.

I'm watching you watch me:)

This fella's got no problems because he's never going to die.  With the kind of pillow soft life he's got and all the top notch medical care in the world up til 75 he's got a head start on 150.

Contrast that with the people doing his yardwork, fixing his cars, building his houses, and taking his orders at any other meanial task that comes with his existance.  Those people are going to need back surgery, knee replacements, hips, etc., probably before they are 60.

No need to set a target age.  All those people your are afraid will soak up your medical care will be dead anyway.
