Traders: Millions By The Minute - Part 1

Tyler Durden's picture

"Real Housewives of Orange County" meets Wold of Wall Street - BBC's 'Traders: Millions By The Minute' 2-part documentary goes inside the competitive world of financial traders to meet the men and women who play the markets in London, New York, Chicago and Amsterdam. As The BBC describes, this show offers a rare, personal portrait of what life is like for the people who do this lucrative but relentless job, against a backdrop of non-stop news, globalised markets and the rise of ultra-fast computers capable of placing millions of trades at a time. We can only assume that Johnny-5 and his algorithmic friends refused to be part of this in-depth look at market participants.

Episode 1 (of 2)

Manhattan hedge fund manager Karen believes that money is power, and making it is fun, as she juggles two sets of twins, a busy social calendar and her $200 million fund.

Bob has spent more than three decades yelling out his trades and jostling for position on Chicago’s cattle futures trading floor, but now he thinks it may be time wean himself off his “trading addiction”.

London day traders Will and Piers use their expertise to train others in the art of making money from tiny moves in the markets. But they warn their new trainees it’s going to be far harder to master the psychological and emotional skills needed for trading than the technicalities.

Ultimately, it’s a story of money, desire and emotion.

Where the hell did that red arrow come from? Anyway, Oldwood, I suspect you're like me: old school and therefore well versed in old fashioned and obsolete concepts such as thrift, accountability and so on.

Like it or not, theft is the core business of the new normal.

There is only one way to repeatedly make money in the casino and that is to know the outcome of the bet before you place it. The game is rigged and everyone knows it. The stock market does not make money it redistributes it ultimately from those who earn it. How many have gotten rich gambling in a rigged game with other people's money.....win, its theirs....lose, its your retirement.

Common misunderstanding of statistics.

Read Gambler's Ruin http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gambler%27s_ruin

to understand the effect of bankroll on a coinflip.

The original was blocked to all the world except UK . Thanks to my VPN I was able to disguise myself as a UK user and watch it. Anyways part 1 is lame and part 2 is like...... super lame! Big waste of time in my opinion.

I haven't watched this yet, but if it is like "Million Dollar Traders" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6ciY8u04Kk I'll pass.  They are not ballers, ergo nothing to watch.  And the guy in this series from the FLOOR of the CME..??  OMG, he hasn't got a chance. Been there, changed to algos a LONG time ago, and if he's new to the game and doesn't know what "Bayesian" is or means - he has NO chance. Moreover, that word is a f*cking sliver of what he needs to know. Good luck bro - let's have a drink at Ceres Friday.

The old documentaries are the best. Billion dollar day and the one with Paul Tudor Jones on the top of my list.

This is the top boys and girls. The last time they came out with a reality show about Wall Street was that show Wall Street Warriors. Within months of the shows debut in 2007, the market topped and we all know what happened next...

9h please, the thing is a charade from top to botoom, with some fringe players on the side.  Anytime the insiders fuck up their losing trades are buste6.

Banksters don't have emotions, they have compulsions... That's the way of the sociopathic mind.

They'd eat their young if they thought it would give them an advantage.

This is lame. Show us the Goldman Sachs, JPM, and Barclays bond prop trading desks. That's what the world needs to see.

The elites are trying to get retail back in the game with clever info-marketing reality shows.

Most retail traders are there to take the other side of the trades.

They need more bodies, HFT can't feast on itself for ever.

Winner winner chicken dinner. Thanks for telling us something we've long known. Most retail traders are on the sidelines because they have no cash.

Hype and bullshit for the masses; play to the sterrotypes and pray for ratings so the low information wannabes can dream. I spent 10 years in the trading pits; been trading for 30+ years; emotion has nothing to do with it and if your algorithms are good you have nothing to worry about [yes Johnny, they are that good]. I see stuff like this from time to time and I wanna puke.
