Bendgate Breaks AAPL Back Below $100
Bendy phones are not a feature, it would seem... as Apple agrees to replace 'faulty' iPhone 6s. And iOS upgrade SNAFUs are not helping - so much for 'execution'.
So, it would appear that all the euphoria from the record 10MM+ launch has gone, and been replaced by anger at a botched rollout of iOS 8 and what appears to be a glaring lack of any quality control of the (un)finished product, which apparently the company rushed to get out to the public without actually validating.
and this perhaps sums it all up...
BREAKSCLUSIVE: iOS 8.0.2 comes with a new toggle switch to straighten out your bent iPhone 6 Plus. #BendGate #lies

Sorry, but who but a total retard would bend something they just paid $400 for. Except if you used EBT!
time for a reverse 7-1 split ?
I think the 8.0.1 bugs with no cell service and no Touch ID are worse problems than bending.
If you take your bent-ass Apple phone to the Apple Store they'll gladly "iron" it back to flat with their new I-Ron.
Read "I-Ron" as "Enron". +1, either way.
The fools buying iphones are the same type of people who are buying the Wall street hype, with the same outcome.
They are shoddy......VERY POPULAR products.
In europe the new iphone cost 780 euro's so that explains why it bends... They had to use a cheaper alu from to cut costs....
As in line with all other Apple product stumble explanations, Apple and FanBoyz are screaming that YOU THE CUSTOMER ARE THE PROBLEM.
Bloody Weak!
The problem is that these phone bend while in your pocket, during normal use, like driving your car. Even front pocket.
So, not total retards, not EBT, just a bad product from a company that lost it.
great comment if true, but please provide documentation, and not the whining of some guy that broke his phone bc he was rough with it and now wants a full refund so joins the complain wagon. Remember the guy out in California that got caught speeding in his Toyota, and then claimed his gas pedal was stuck?
The herd are turds.
Interesting worldview. Toyota admitted that it lied about and covered up its sudden unintended acceleration problem, and Apple admits it has a problem with bending iPhones, but you still want to blame the consumer and assume it's all about getting free shit.
AAPL is way over valued. For a company that makes 2 or 3 gadgets, with nothing exclusive about those gadgets unless you succumb to their OS, they are in for some interesting times.
Once the crowd shifts in the boat, which it surely will because ppl are fickle, look out!
Like all "sexy" investments, iStuff has long peaked.
absurd statement. interest rates are effectively zero, apple trades for well under 20x, so it's effectively a mid single digit rate on current earnings. There's plenty of > $100bn companies trading at FAR north of that on FAR less justification.
There's plenty of short arguments for Apple, but valuation is not one of them.
The boat IS shifting, people are coming to realize Samsuck phones are cheap plastic crap and that samsuck is all marketing, zero R&D (other than money spent copying everything down to the design), and trying to squeeze every phone sale for max profit. Whereas Apple makes its profit by reducing its world-best cost, pricing it's phones at same price as the pieces of crap it competes against, AND makes a great high quaility controlled, well-supported (apple stores, insurance, etc...) device that people universally love and are attracted. Apple devices are a STEAL at the current price, you should be forced to pay double for the higher quality, that's what you dorks would do at the jeans store, no? How many of you tards are bitching about Apple while wearing $125 jeans with some dorky label on that your wife/girlfriend/you think is cool? Levis are still $25 and they are durable and tough. But you mongroloids spend all your time criticizing a company that makes a great product for a great price, and reacting to every moronic media report out there. I blame the dope at ZH that keeps focusing on Apple when there are literally thousands of other topics to get deep in, which are true frauds raping consumers and world economies without comment. This is why ZH doesn't advance its readership bc they won't thin the BS out of their mostly decent reporting.
People are forced to admit to stuff all the time, it's a strategy for saving face against the numbnut herd. So instead of fighting it (which is what Steve Jobs would do during Antennagate or the original iPhone price movements fiasco), you simply "come clean" to the 3 assholes that drunkenly fucked up their iphones while doing a keg stand, and your brand gets polished. If you fight it, then the dumbass who balanced his body on top of his 6 Plus while twerking on cocaine, doesn't win.
Open your eyes and stop reacting like a 4 year old girl to every media report. Apple recieves the most media attention in the world, there's gonna be plenty of false alarms. No one bothers to report Samsuck phone problems, no why? Bc Samsuck has no stores, and therefore no outlet for complaint. Plus, they've shown they don't give a fuck, so when you complain it falls on deaf ears. That's a strategy sure, but when you drunkenly fall on your ass and break an $800 item you bought 2 days ago, and complain righteously, and then a company gives you benefit of doubt, that's a brand, a cool brand.
Here you go.

Do you need more proof?
You've not provided anything but the reactionary media links. how about the numbers?
9 in 10 million, and my denominator is way off now. You consumer more arsenic in your water than that, are you also ranting and raving about the poisoning you're getting from the company you pay for your family's water?
I can't wait to see how body heat will foil the I-Wrist Watch! Hope it doesn't catch fire??!! Or worse yet, it starts calculating time in reverse and sends you back to the 70s where most of their current products seem to have been devised.
I'm hearing that every new Iphone has the Grindr app already installed and that a glitch with Grindr is why the OS is fcuking up. I guess Grindr was added as Mr. Cook's signature touch to the product.
Thoughts?
Oh, and when it Apple going to change their name to Rainbow? Just curious?
When they patent purple. The other six patented already
Who has the patent on purple? Prince?
AAPL iPhone6 really is a world wonder. Not only are you able to charge it with any household microwave, it now contures to the shape of your head.
It's not surprising that thin tinfoil bends when one sits on it. Good thing it has glass glued onto it or the situation would be worse.
iPhones bent to the exact shape of your anatomy are so cool - iButtock. Or one prefers, iAss, which contains more than a hint of truth?
How much will you pay for an iPhone bent by a Kardashian ass?
Yes it is perfectly reasonable to expect you to be able to sit on your 5.5 inch iPhone and not damage it.
/sarc
<Apple could save some money here and just buy the consumer looser fitting jeans.>
I am assuming these people have always carried their cell phone in that pocket and as creatures of habit put the new phone there. Before flaming, please be aware that my company is still using Blackberries.
Agreed, I am old school. I took better care of my Mr. Potato Head. Media loves this kinid of crap though, the same kids that all got trophies for losing a soccer game are now of the mindset they if they spend $399 for an electronic piece of glass, they should be able to sit on it? I just dont get it?
At $750 dollars (for a f***ing phone!), you should be able to drive a truck over it.
Ummmm.....if you could drive a truck over it the masses would not spend $750 for it. Not defending Apple here. But for many people, buying the iPhone is all about style and popularity.
Thanks for clarification. I had a Samsung phone before and the thing broke in my front pocket. Any pressure on it caused it to break. I swore off Samsung until going elcheapo with my latest and this thing is cheap junk compared to Apple but it does everything I need and was less than 40 bucks without a contract and it hasn't broke in over a year of use. $750+ for a phone without a contract that can break if you sit on it is just crazy.
I agree. It is crazy....even as I contemplate purchasing the iPhone 6 plus.
For me it is not about style but function and reliability. I always purchase a hard case for my iPhones (because I understand they are fragile) and I rarely take them out of the hard case except to hose them off twice a year. :-)
I like the much larger screen on the 6 plus. These old tired eyes are having real problems with the 4 inch iPhone 5 screen.
If you have the money to blow, I can understand.
If you are good on ebay you will only have to pay for the iPhone once, I have sold every iPhone (have the 5s now) for MORE than I spent on the new one, on eBay. Crazy but people love these phones.
The grocery store sells a $5 clam shell taliphone. No contract, buy minutes as needed.
I carry a phone in case of emergency. I have no need for a constant fix to the internet, nor the desire that the internet has a constant fix on me.
I view every call/text received as an annoyance.
AND, if I drop this piece of shit, I have no emotional attachment to it.
Not sitting on it, even front pocket. Which I have been doing with my aluminum HTC for more than a year. So, just a shitty product.
I broke the screen on my high-end Samsung the 2nd day I had it. They thought it was cool to make a phone with a slightly bent glass screen. Never heard one word of it in the media even tho it was a common problem. Know why? bc the market was wise enough not to buy that phone, bc it was made by Samsuck-- it's just assumed their quality is for shit.
My off contract HTC One M7 (18 months old) hasnt bent yet.
I must need tighter jeans.
Typical Chinese made crap. Don't tell me that laying down with the Chinese for so long Apple hasn't risen up with Chinese fleas.
Some You tubers tried bending the Galaxy note and the iCrap six plus. One of them bent and the other wouldn't. I'll give you two guesses as to which one failed. Seems aluminum isn't all it's cracked up to be.
TWO guesses? Feeling generous today.
It would seem to me that if you are building a product that is very long, thin and wide.... you would watch your bending and torsional rigidity specs like a hawk. But(t) apparently not. iCrap.
Anyway, here's a video of somebody shooting an iPhone with a 50 Cal sniper rifle. Just because.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_gEiU_FDxQ
Should' ve shaped it like a Pringles chip. Gaussian curvature, FTW!
Let's face facts, the iSheep buy the iCrap and pay a premium for it because they want to feel superior to all other pedestrian phone users. This is getting more attention than in the past because this time, the iCrap doesn't have anything revolutionary, it has features already available to the droid crowd, and it isn't work. The iSheep waited, paid more, and not only is the product the same as already offered in the droid world, the iCrap isn't working. Tough to feel superior when your brand new phone doesn't work.
The funny thing is, they want to feel superior but ever walmart shopping turd owns one.
My neice has an Apple phone. HAD TO HAVE IT because all her idiot high school friends told her it was "cool".
I think that about sums up most Apple customers.
She probably "had to have it" bc her friends use apps, and iphones share apps which Android and other phones don't have. Remember back when you tried to send your Wall St buddy some spreadsheet that wasn't Word and they just refused to read it? Yeah, same thing.
Trust me, it had nothing to do with Apps.... she's really not that smart to even think about using apps. She's lucky if she can actually make a successful phone call on the first or second attempt.
I'm no big APPL supporter but I've owned both. The OS in an iPhone is superior
I've owned both as well, and I disagree with your opinion. So, now what????????
Warhorse is correct, so now what????
I sit on my excellent MotoX all the time... no bend no break. Sorry, but that Apple phone is just a piece of Ishit.
LOL! Looks like the cracked screen issue was NEVER addressed either! One of the commentators at CNBC just showed her NEW Iphone on TV with a shattered screen. Says she accidently slipped from her hand.
Hasn't the cracked screen issue been around... FOREVER?? Seem like half my friends with Iphones have shattered screens, yet they continue to use them if they can because they just shelled out hundreds for this "premium" device.
Can't they at least get that right???
The screen will pop out of the six plus when dropped on face.
Cool! Then you can use the screen like a magnifying glass and burn ants with it!
At least burn the bankster ants (those are the ones with the monocle and top hat).
That is totally crazy to think Samsung has a better build than Apple. If Apple's physical construction (the only thing they've ever done well) for something as central to its business like the iPhone is worse than Samsung, they are totally screwed.
No, it's not that crazy if you're not currenlty incorporated within the Apple Cult Borg.
Jobs is dead so will be Apple.
It's funny watching the fanboys fall all over themselves defending Apple. They'll say things like "well just don't wear skinny jeans" or "get a case for it" ...... huh? I thought that you were paying up for an aluminum backing and a slim design in order to not have that bulk. Besides, how do I show off my fancy "gold" backing in a case?
It's funny watching the fanboys fall all over themselves defending Apple. They'll say things like "well just don't wear skinny jeans"
This seems to be quite a dilemma for the average Apple user.
I GUESS THE LIPSTICK IS OFF THE PIG.....GO SAMSUNG

Zero Hedge: Wall Street's daily dose of doom

If watching the news doesn't satisfy your hunger for scary stories, Zero Hedge is the place for you. More
Yeah, because everything so fucking rosy in Yellen World.
Okay ... I don't get it ... somebody splain to me how a toggle switch unbends an iphone.
Using the new iWave people have also been complaing that charging your phone in the microwave has been a failure. Hmmm who would have thought?
ZH crowd don't get lost in the weeds. The iOS 8.0.1 update glitch is a big deal as the newer iPhones lost their ability to make calls when the fix was applied. Don't get lost in the weeds. This isn't a big deal because the new phones couldn't make a call. It is a big deal because there is some function in the new phones that the programmers creating the update were unaware of so when they fixed the issues with the original system they somehow "found" and disabled this function they were unaware of. It's a big deal because 1. why is there a function that the programmers didn't know about that affects or manipulates the calling feature of the phone and 2. hackers now know that there is some type of new function on the new phones that can manipulate the phone call function.
The iOS glitch can be fixed with a simple software update. Minimal cost to AAPL per device.
The use of a cheaper alloy and improper reinforcement in the shell is a big deal. Maximum cost to AAPL per device.
Just because you got glitched and couldnt call your baby momma for the past 18 hours, dont assume what hurts you isnt a cheap fix for Crapple.
I cannot wait for the day Apple goes down like the Titanic
Enough! Apple is now on my Kardashian List; my list of stupid pop culture items I refuse to click on when used as bait for "news" articles. Here's the list so far:
Apple's marketing team is pure genius, production team not so much. I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 nice phone and at $99, was a good deal. Apple iPhone 6 at $400 not so much. It still amazes me that people think Apples products are superior to everything else out there and will spend up for hardware that has been around for years.
The new iPhone 6 is $199 ON CONTRACT. (not $400)
You bought a 7 month old SGS5 ON CONTRACT for $99. When the SGS5 came out in February, it was $199 ON CONTRACT.
Anyone who buys a phone ON CONTRACT is a f-ing retard.
Enjoy the suck!
The Flex feature is nothing compared to its "Wave" charging tech - someone put together a document showing how you can charge the iPhone in an iMicrowave - you know some iMoron tried it... It's now a smoking iBrick.
I hear you can straighten it out by putting it in a microwave oven and run it on high for 1 minute.
You forgot the step where you need to put it in the freezer first. I also hear that these phones can float.
Oh lord, you'd better put a /sarc tag on that quick! Those iUsers aren't the sharpest tools in the shed.
Phones bending and screens cracking, aren't there apps for these problems?
Sucks when physical world meets virtual world. Physical world always wins.
Tim Cook needs to drop acid apparently, he lacks the 'vision' of Jobs, or flashbacks anyway...
Can't you buy an Apple phone for 99 cents at Walmart these days????
ibend, gotta have one
Is there anything or anyone that ZeroHedge respects? It's one thing to make fun of bankers that steal trillions at a sitting, but I don't understand the "jump on bandwagon" of haters for everything in the world, including Apple. The phone in every single one of your pockets that isn't a blackberry, is modelled EXACTLY on Apple's phones. It's hilarious you tards think you're some kind of savants for owning a Samsung. Sammie is so shameless they even copy the DESIGN (same for HTC) as well as all the features.
Hating for hating's sake, is same as contrarian for contrarian's sake. It's how smart people do WAY dumber shit than dumb people.
WARNING!! FANBOI ALERT! WARNING!
Hey genius.......the HTC phone in my pocket DOES NOT BEND! I have dropped it many times, threw it in anger a few, and it is over 3 years old. Buy overpriced crapple products if you must be "cool", but don't expect the rest of us to be as stupid as you obviuosly are. I will get a new phone soon..........and it WILL NOT BE A DEFECTIVE POS crapple product. Most likely a Samsung. My daughter and her husband both bought the big "phablet" Samsung phones when they were released, and guess what, not only do they work better than the crapple phones they had previously, but they don't bend either!! Gee whiz crapple sucks!! Also, Steve Jobs was a closet homo. How's that for no respect?
I think zero hedge and its readers respect the Constitution of the US. Since so many things seem to be departing from this nearly perfect document, I think it has kind of put some folks in a touchy mood.
To hell with Apple, Samsung and Blackberry. I own an unlocked octa-core / 1GB Android dual SIM smartphone made by a Chinese company with a name I can't pronounce. And the handset is faster, thinner and more customizable than any iProduct or other "American" handset. And the best part is: I'm not under contract with any wireless carrier. I can quit or switch carriers the moment any of their terms become unfavorable. Can you do that or did they lock you under contract because you chased the iCarrot?
That's funny saw a lot of Chinese faces in the ihype6x lines on TV, I guess they arent aware of your model phone.
It's not hating on Apple, it's just being honest to say that Samsung copied them and then surpassed them in design starting two or three years ago. Next to a Galaxy, an iPhone 5 was a a smooth operator, but with shortcomings. So why would somebody pay more for less just because there is an Apple logo? I know that Apple fans love Apple and that's great, but give Samsung a break. Apple will be shamelessly copying them next year (or this year).
PS -- I have a Moto -- everybody copied Motorola. They were the pioneer in mobile phones. Remember The Brick?
I tend to agree that ZH over-dramatizes things in a negative light. However, things aren't that great in the world, at present. Also, there are very legitimate concerns with Apple, their leadership, and the products they are producing. This is part of the reason I exited my position a few weeks ago.
Really,
Obviously, Apple invented the smartphone.
Apple ripped the original iPhone design from Palm.
This is a big deal for Apple, and despite the fact i'm no Steve Jobs fan the fact of the matter is this company always falls apart without him. The problem here is not so much the reality but the concept.
Apple is largely a marketing product and conceptually is perfect (especially when it comes to design and looks) , ergo why this is such a big deal.
The perfection was so important Apple put up with Steve Jobs taking years to decide on which shade of Silver he liked. He would never have let this mistake on to the market and for good reason. The "i" might as well stand for image, and this is why we have just witnessed the death of Apple (although it will be slow)
Crapple needs to copy Samsung more
To really see this in perspective, you really have an advantage if you were with Apple products for the last 15 years or more. My first was a black and white 160 Powerbook, OS 7.6. Since Steve J. has been gone, my main worry is that now you have competing product wannabe heroes, with all these new ideas, some of which kind of suck. Cook is OK, but he's not Steve, and I'm sure he's trying, but I'm beginning to see the mistakes. The first mistake any big corporation makes in this situation is that they put their shareholders ahead of their customers. They have been sneaking things into the OS, like you have to have a valid credit card set up on iTunes to get the free operating system updates. Why? Mavericks was designed as a "social shopping OS". They are now "milking" their products, and making changes that are out of character from where Apple had focused in years past. Expect Apple to now devolve into a mediocre company. ..."A camel is a horse designed by committee"... Your next phone is a camel.
I had a Blue and White G3 tower that I used for over 10 years. It was made in 1998. The thing was a tank. I'd be scared of purchasing a Mac Pro these days, or one of their wafer-thin laptops, for fear of breaking the damned thing.
P.S., There was still a line at the Apple Store, yesterday, for this flop. I bet that line clears right up, today.
Yes, those were good machines. In fact, yours and other older Apple desktops, such as the G4's, were actually built in the U.S. I still have and use a G5 tower I picked up used for $350.00. It's my backup machine, and runs great. My main is a Mac Pro, but also purchased used. So far so good. My main worries are the direction the software is headed: no matter what your hardware, lousy software will ruin it. I've also noticed Apple has decided it doesn't like open source software, and has pulled back from it in some areas. For instance, I had a lot of Ogg Vorbis files (the open source equivalent to MP3's, WMV, etc.). Ogg was supported and played on iTunes, except after Snow Leopard, Apple dropped support. I now use VLC for playing media, and it will play the Ogg files as well as everything else. It's all evolved to controlling revenue streams and consumer production sources. Basically, the direction sucks. Next platform: Linux.
My Apple IIe I bought in 1984 after saving my ass off over the summer of lifeguarding and cutting grass was also made in the USA.
That was the one and only Apple product I ever purchased.
Typical of Apple as over the last few years every new release of iOS or mobile device has more issues than the last. The lamestream media will of course act like this is unusual for Apple when it's really become the standard for them. Kind of like how the sports media keeps acting like Tom Brady and the Patriots keep wining superbowls when they haven't won one in 9 years.
Made in China...
What country do you think the "American" smartphones are made in?
Thankfully for Apple, software issues can be overcome remotely with uploads / downloads.
Now, a unit that bends to the curvature of your ass, that silly consumers, is a product recall ... expensive
Try bending a MotoG. Or a Galaxy Note, Experia, LG, or even some cheap plastic phones you cam buy for $30.
The amount of force required to bend the iPhone6 is far less than the force needed to bend or break any of the other phones. Since I only paid $.01 for my Xperia, I tried to bend it. I used far more force than I was comfortable with and still couldn't get it to do anything other than make a slight cracking sound. Still works flawlessly. Of course that phone can survive being thrown in water, dropped, kicked, and just about anything else.
Apple has always made garbage products. They are designed nicely but built like crap. The iPhone screens have always shattered from minuscule drops, antenna problems, power button failure, home button failure, etc. The neon iMacs from the late 90s were terrible. If one thing broke you had to throw the entire thing out because of proprietary hardware.
It is amazing how well Steve Jobs pulled the wool over the world's eyes and got everyone to worship garbage.
Broken glass, bent frames, hacked selfies.
Bend-Ghazi !!!
yeah i am putting a 6.2" x 3" x 0.28" phablet in my trouser back/front pocket (right there with my ipad... i wear overalls) or bending it for the pure fuck of it and dropping it from 6 feet and submerging it in a glass of single malt... the cnbc bend it like beckham made me laugh... i thought it was a joke... darwin called it NATURAL SELECTION...
FoxConn makes the i phone, as well as the Blackberry.
