S&P Warns On Germany As Anti-Euro Political Party Soars In Popularity

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Mike Krieger of Liberty Blitzkrieg blog,

The German political party known as the AfD, or “Alternative for Germany,” first came to my attention a year ago. Upon reading about it, I became so interested in this new party (it has only been around since early 2013) that I composed a post titled: Anti-Euro Party in Germany Makes Significant Headway into Parliamentary Elections. Here’s an excerpt:

German parliamentary elections are coming up on Sept. 22, and Chancellor Angela Merkel has a problem on her hands. A euro-skeptical political party known as AfD is rising in the polls and could deny her Christian Democratic Union and its coalition partners the majority they need to continue governing.

AfD, or Alternative for Germany, currently holds no seats in the Bundestag, and until recently it barely registered in public-opinion polls. But a survey released on Sept. 4 by the Forsa polling group showed it with 4 per cent support—just shy of the 5 per cent needed to win Bundestag representation.Peter Matuschek, Forsa’s chief political analyst, says the poll may have underestimated the party’s strength. Many supporters, he told Spiegel, “are too embarrassed to admit that they are planning to vote for the AfD,” which wants Greece, Spain, and other crisis-hit countries to leave the euro zone, and possibly break up the existing monetary union itself.

That was then, this is now. From Ambrose-Evans Pritchard at the UK Telegraph:

Standard & Poor’s has issued an extraordinary credit alert on the eurozone, one that deserves close attention.

It warns that the rise of Germany’s AfD anti-euro party calls into question the euro bail-out machinery and queries the pitch for any form of QE, stimulus that has already been pocketed and spent in advance by the markets.

It will force Angela Merkel to take a tougher line on Europe, and further complicates the management of the (already dysfunctional) currency bloc.

The rating agency said it will henceforth monitor any sign that Germany is digging in its heels on EMU matters as it seeks to head off this rising political threat. The report is written by Moritz Kraemer, head of sovereign ratings in Europe. He is German. This is not an Anglo-Saxon analysis.

Alternative für Deutschland is blowing across Germany like a tornado. The party won 12.6pc in Brandenburg and 10.6pc in Thuringia a week ago, following its success in Saxony. It has now broken into three regional parliaments. The free market FDP is being systematically destroyed. Now AfD is ripping into the Left-wing base of Die Linke as well.

Let’s not forget the huge “End the Fed” rallies happening in Germany.

Looks like things are heating up in Deutschland.

One can hope not. All the secessionist parties saw what happened at the polls, and there's going to be a lot more monitoring going on.

Yes, there will be assasinations, but when people are hungry and cold it matters less.

If that starts happening little Hans gets pissed of. Lol I wonder how they feel that jew-nazis run the banking system.  I already believe Germany eventually with enter into a monetary union with Russia and China bringing along the rest of the northern European countries.  That's why the jew-nazis want to get rid of putin and steal all of Russian resources.

That's easy resources and a 1 billion population market.  Ponder this,  if you were the grand pooba of Germany where do you get resources and second what broke dick country in the EU or US is gonna pay for the goods you produce.   Germany is already tired of the currency devaluation in Europe and the US.

Optimist, wishful thinking - the protesters moved from losing FDP to AfD. Nothing changed for the leading parties. Aside of the fact that they just would create coalitions against the enemies - Spiegels talk: enemies!
The rest are still dumb sheeple.

Nothing will change anytime soon in Germany.

Different story though with some other southern EU countries, where the wind blows different. I think the first major blow will come from France where Le Pen will be in the lead. The EU(ro) rats are already leaving the boat. Fast and relentless. As long as Dollars are still cheap.

BTW google: "spiegel afd feinde" - you will be quite surprised.

Sad but true. Football and TV are used to control the sheep.

I remember Bayern picking up Luca Toni in 2007 after Italy whipped Germany in the semis in the WC.  Italy's Serie A was torn apart by scandal and many Italians were poached by other european teams.  Toni goes to Bayern with Frenchman Frank Ribery and they become mates.   The German media fixates on why neither one of them wants to learn German. Prankster and brillant player Ribery has a hard enough time with French.

Toni scores tons of goals, Bayern wins the European championship.  Still not good enough for the Germans.  Eventually they get that Dutch prick coach van Gaal.  van Gaal treats Toni like shit. Toni leaves.  Now van Gaal cannot win anything at hype team Man U - backed by Chevrolet aka US taxpayer money to the Glazers.  Hilarious.   I think the Germans were still mad at Toni and Italians for 2006 at the WC.

van Gaal is such a prick that the great Johan Cruyff sued him.  Johan is loved by the Dutch, Spaniards and Catalans.  van Gaal is just a prick.

New parties are always a threat to the existing ones. The old order will gang up to deny the newcomers any direct influence, though it may have an indirect impact on some policy. This has already been seen in multiple European countries. But then, it might just be a delaying battle. If the message resonates the people will eventually give the newcomers enough power to completely shake the existing power structure. Hitler is a fine example of making this happen.

Jim Wille is one of the most useless conspiracy mongerers I'm aware of. If according to his book - the whole planet would have already - long - sunk into the atlantic.

My playbook is: at some point within next few years the first country will either leave Europe or Oppose it in a major way. In both cases - major cracks into was is left by then in Europe. Many many Europeans will join the Chorus "Fuck EU". Euro on way to below parity. Already earlier.

Then 1930ff in Europe. They will not be called Nazis - but they will have similar programms - i.e. enemies which are guilty and need to be sued and thrown into prison. Foreigners in general. Instead of Jews hang  bankers and Eurocrats and Muslims. Expect sort of Kristallnacht in Bruessels. Expect bancrupties like in 1929ff. Expect millions jobless revolting in the streets. While the sheeple will be as unprepared as they were in 1929ff.

These events and financial turmoil will finally also break the US's camels back. Somewhen in between 2016 and 2021.

Then all hell will  break loose. 1933ff globally.
CBers will be swept away like flies in the wind - no safe place left anymore.

Then a new system. Where initially (foreign) military will have the major say. Wars. WWs. In the east and north of Danube The Russians - south Chinese and others protecting the shambles left ...

At some point peace again - and the few left bankers will again take over -another round of treaties of versailles - for another cycle of 84 years. And the few left sheeple will again not take care of their freedom ... and again end in slavery.

Nothing ever changes as long as there are evil humans ruling this planet - and the sheeple remain in ignorance and laziness and fucking each other instead of - daily - taking care of their rulers.

Germany has just to be aware that if the Euro is eliminated the Southern European States will have to convert the Billions and Trillions of debt into weaker currencies, therefore owing Germany a shit shit ton of money.

Never gonna happen.

I can see furious Greeks, Spaniards, Portuguese and French setting Germany on fire.  Most populations of these countries are on the brink.  No way will they accept debt values in TRILLIONS.  It will be IMPOSSIBLE to pay back.

Germany: leaves Euro > Euro implodes > Debt has to be written off > German Banks: fucked & No Gold to back this mess up.

That is just one small page of the playbook - see my comments above.

As the breakup of Euro will trigger a worldwide tsunami into Dollars first - and then ... who the hell knows. Europe as a whole will be bancrupt and swept away. As well as the rest of this planet. 1929ff globally.

A global system reset and wars and civil wars and military in the streets (from NOT yet bancrupt states) will be inevitable. AfD will be nowhere at that time - instead more likely Heil Putin - or Heil Jeff Bush - or Heil Ji Peng or so.

While a few oligarchs, unknown to the rest of the planet, will pull the new strings - hidden somewhere in China.

And forget the Swiss. As thanks to the insanity of the SNB also the Franc will be swept away. And with that - Europe sinks back into the middle ages.

Sorry my friend - but you are obviously dreaming of boiling hot ice.

To stick to the Euro will be the last will of IM Erika - and as the recent votes have clearly shown - the zillions of Germans are still in deep deep deep deepest love with their Mutti.

So "without the Euro" - only over her dead body.

So Germans - and this time also the rest of Europe - will again have to use fiat paper to heat the oven.

BTW: I think France will be the first country to leave the Euro. As France currently has the most voters opposing Euroland as we know it. Anyway the country with the greatest misery will likely blame Euro(pe) for it's demise - and that is just a matter of time. 2 years, or 3 or 4 ... tic toc ... Panic will start when Euro breaks below 1.18 ... just 8 figures away. For 13 figures it took just a few months ... so keep on dreamin'.

I agree that France -would- be the first country to leave the Euro and the Euro will be over that day...  not going to happen though.

I live in France.   All the Frenchies want is the Euro to be at parity with the dollar or at least well below 1.20.

Ironicly, so does Germany.   Germany is an exporter.   Cheaper Euro means more German goods are sold.   Cheaper Euro means more Italian goods are sold.

If you haven't seen the game plan yet:

1.  ECB waits and waits and waits and waits (at the behest of the Germans)

2.  US Fed prints paper and reinflates the US economy (racking up $18T in debt)

3.  US Fed raises interest rates (Dollar looks pretty compared to other dog currencies)

4.  Euro weakens back to Parity (or low teens  1.10 = 20% haircut)

5.  European exports, tourism, etc. surge

6.  France, Germany, and Italy reap the benefits of cheap Euro (they still make and export shit)

7.  CEE (Western Europes cheap labor) surges

That is the plan at least.

fxpmtrader's picture

That is one face of the coin. Where I do agree.

The other is ...

-) Europeans will go by feet due to oil sky high

-) For food they go into the woods as food will not be affordable anymore (due to sky high price of oil).

-) Euro, Swissy and Dollar "derivatives" out of control and triggering another Lehman style crash

-) Imcompetitive US companies will trigger major bancrupties.

-) SNB blowing up due to EURCHF peg

-) Bankruns and poeple losing their savings

-) 1929ff ...

Now re-evaluate your outlook above ...

The political parties in Germany don't know it yet but Germany has ceased to exist as an independent nation, germany is now part of the "EU" which isn't a nation-state either but a "trade region".

German "citizens" are now EU "members", the entity to which their citizenship rests no longer exists, they have no sovereignty or control over their own borders, or even public policy.

There is no "Germany" anymore, germany is now a place where the majority of the tenants speak German, for now.

In 10 years the EU will adopt and impose "Sharia" on the EU trade region wide.

The Euro isn't going anywhere.   These people who believe that elections matter are smoking crack (with a dusting a quaaludes).

European countries have numerous political parties to dillute the power of a single party that could actual do anything.

As an example, in France "National Front" could win, but the Socialists and all other parties would join forces to make it impossible to do anything.

Same in Germany.  Same in Italy.  Same everywhere in Europe.

Too much time has been invested...  Too much ego is on the line...    Would they just shut down the ECB and rent it out to gypsies?  Shut down the EIB?   Shut down the parliament?    Keep Bussells/Strasbourg online?   Dump the Euro but keep the common market?

The Euro is here to stay.   Whether at parity to the dollar or for $.50 on the dollar...  It is here for good.

LOL ... Euro isn't going anywhere .... it just rallied 13 big figures frm 1.39xx to 1.26xx within just 21 weeks.

If that is "nowhere" - then you are right.

"As an example, in France "National Front" could win, but the Socialists and all other parties would join forces to make it impossible to do anything.
Same in Germany.  Same in Italy. Same everywhere in Europe."

In principle I agree - BUT just as a reminder: everybody thought the same in 1929-33 before Hitler came to power. Point is: once you have too many in the streets revolting - things can get out of control - among the masses as well as among politicans - virtually overnight. Just have a look at the latest example of Ukraine.

Thru decades of "peace" we are used to contemplacy and that everything just goes well - but once there is smoke and anger in the streets, and the parliaments - contemplacy will be replaced with guns and forks or whatever the opponents have available for fights. Don't forget politicans are made of humans and humans will go where they expect the best outcome for themselfs and their parties. So what today might seem impossible - tomorrow becomes a choice - if the price fits. Again - study how Hitler came to power. You just need one single man or woman to make the right deal. Make him cancelor or president - and in exchange you are part of the government. Kurt von Schleicher and Franz von Papen are examples that can happen every day - once the air become thin enough due to economic disaster out there.

But I'm very well aware of that daily "feel-good-viagra" of all sorts to the 99.99% - that shifts the mood into "all is well - and that never ever again will change". Same happened in 1929ff - until one day they woke up and the savings have gone. Can't happen again?

"The Euro is here to stay.   Whether at parity to the dollar or for $.50 on the dollar...  It is here for good."
Yes - it just doesn't make any difference - if a can of milk consts 1 Euro - or 3 Euros. And especially if you have lost your job and your family is without income anymore.
Sure enough politicans will come and provide for free what you need.
Or NSIS will come and pay a good price if you are gonna behead a few stinking bankers.

I'm not shocked anymore by the amout of ignorance and centemplacy which is out there.
Possibly my fault as I haven't had my FGV pills yet today ...

On May 8, 1932, Schleicher held a secret meeting with Hitler and offered a proposal. The ban on the SA and SS would be lifted, the Reichstag dissolved and new elections called, and Chancellor Bruening would be dumped, if Hitler would support him in a conservative nationalist government. Hitler agreed.

Can never ever happen again ....

Question - if the lone creditworthy major nation in the Euro (thus ECB etc) is suddenly veering towards an anti-Euro stance then what does this do for the creditworthiness of the ECB, stability of the Euro, all the institutions bullshit and paraphernalia that hang on to it? All this while other member states face possible secessions or break up. Hmm? Just don't see how the benighted project can possibly be spun as viable.

Like the Krauts and their anti-EU party, it's time for Americans to fire all of the elephant/jackass sock puppets representing the ONE PARTY SYSTEM, treating R & D like a modern-day "scarlet letter" in the voting booth.

Right now, Libertarian Adrian Wyllie is challenging two establishment millionaires running for re-election (with 100 million FeRNs) as Florida governor.  One is the big-gov't RINO incumbent (who just signed a 77 billion FeRN budget!) and the other is the previous governor who took off his elephant costume to reveal a jackass costume, to the applause of the jackasses who hated his guts just four years ago.

Without blowing my cover, let's just say I am working my @$$ off for Mr. Wyllie's campaign and that he has earned my respect over the years as an advocate of individual liberty, limited government and free enterprise economics.  He is now polling at 9% (the highest ever for a third party in the governor race), but after three televised debates, he could possibly win or, at a minimum, unleash Project Mayhem on the ruling party's plans.

We certainly would appreciate any support our fellow fight club members can offer to help us beat the $#+! out of the establishment sock puppets in front of everyone...even if it makes more work for me.

AEP really has gone over to the dark side - and now he is writing complete and utter bullshit articles.

AfD was easily kept out of the federal arena in last elections, which were almost to the day one year ago. (A party needs to reach more than 5% of the vote to get seats in the assembly.)
State elections are basically meaningless, and now just give the AfD 2 stages where their politicians can have some slip-ups, which then can be exploited by the establishment (parties and MSM.)

In 3 years, on the next federal elections, a campaign based on fear will keep AfD maybe not out of parliament anymore but at least small enough to not make a difference.

Glad Alternative fuer Deutschland is doing well.  But the Laender where they have gotten good results are all in the ex-DDR, where voters are more likely to look asksance at the CDU/CSU and SPD.  Let's see how they do in a major west German state like Bavaria or Baden Wurtemberg or Niedersachsen.

Since entering the European Parliament, they have voted for sanctions against Russia and for the Association Agreement with Ukraine.  If they keep this up, they'll soon peter out.  If they call themselves an alternative, they had better offer something different.
