Martin Armstrong Warns The West "Sanctioning Russia Is A Big Mistake"

Tyler Durden's picture

Judging from the plunge in stocks and the Ruble and along with proclamations that Russia is "isolated" (when it is clearly not), The West's sanctions appear to be achieving their goals (propaganda-wise). However, Martin Armstrong warns "politicians just keep making the same mistakes over and over again," as he explains, to the people of Russia, "sanctions only make Putin stronger for they allow him to point to the West as the evil empire."

Via Armstrong Economics,

Politicians just keep making the same mistake over and over again.

MickyMouseClub

They perpetually turn to sanctions bankrupting private business with no respect whatsoever as the USA is wiping out farmers in Europe.

But worst of all, there is not a single incident where sanctions have EVER worked even once. They often remain in place beyond a decade even as in Iran, but there is no change in politics.

Sanctions only make Putin stronger for they allow him to point to the West as the evil empire that covertly toppled the Soviet Union with a CIA plot.

Tomcat

The most popular T-Shirt in Russia says: "This particular tree [which is also the name of a weapon] is not afraid of sanctions."

The one in the middle says: "Sanctions? Don’t make our Iskanders laugh" (Iskander SS-26 Stone is the missile system shown).

The Mickey Mouse Club would be nice if there were really qualified people instead of questionable lawyers.

Western sanctions against Russia are a huge political gift to Putin, giving him the justification to crack down on dissidents in Russia. Fifth and sixth columnists, atlanticists etc cannot stand in opposition to a  nationalist Russian leader who enjoys 85% support. Anyone who is supporting the western propaganda line is now immediately denounced as traitors, funded by foreign NGO's attempting regime change etc.  Even legitimate dissidents cannot prevail in the present Russian political climate.

I bow to the queen (or is it king?) vote-getter of the Okhrana.

Regardless, I am certain that the only Latina you might love would be Raul Castro in drag.

Speaking of those impish Castro bros, the name of Fidel seems to have vanished from the nightly commentary on RHC (that's Radio Havana Cuba, for non-Okhrana readers) whereas it was once omnipresent up to about a week ago. It's all about President Raul Castro now, so I would anticipate hearing news about the death or additional incapacitation (I mean, apart from being a communist dinosaur) of Fidel very shortly.

Hugo Chavez, in his current "do I smell sulphur" accomodations, might be about to have a dinner guest in his quarters.

But getting back to Bad Vlad and his 85% approval rating for a moment...

The fact that he murders any dissident journalists and confiscates their media platforms means that it is somewhat of a surprise that he is only up to 85%, considering how he totally owns the information-generation-mechanisms of the country as well as all the polling organizations.

Hell, if I was in Moscow and a pollster came up to me and asked if I thought he was doing a good job, I'd make it a point of fervently agreeing with the minion. Unless I was in the process of stepping aboard a flight out of the country. Even then, I might think that discretion was the better part of valor.

Even if I did tell the truth, however, I'm sure my answer would still be translated so it comes out on the pro-Putin side of the ledger. It's important to keep in mind that someone whose life and livelihood depend on amusing their master's every whim is not going to be a real truth-to-power sort of guy or girl.

Even if they are, their bosses are not crazy.

And, in closing, I always find it amusing to see people rant and rave about lying western politicians, media, and institutions and then pretend that Vladimir Putin is some sort of Slavic Saint Paddy.

Puitn is the exact same sort of lying, thieving, conniving, murdering rat as are his enemies and I dare you to admit to this obvious truism flat out without qualification or attempt at obfuscation, but you never will since you work for him.

They are rightfully scared that Karkov will leave since the Ukrainians have done a magnificent job of destroying their economy, legal and political systems. Once the Ukraine is completely ruined, Karkov will go and there will be nothing that Piggyschenko  can do to stop them. He could not win against the Novorossiyans, and does not have the money to rebuild a ruined military. Besides, Oligarchs would rather steal and run, than work and rebuilt.

"Oligarchs would rather steal and run, than work and rebuilt."

That is the central tragedy of Ukraine. The oligarchs plundered Ukraine, moved the money outside the country, refused to invest it back into the Ukraine economy and are now simply playing one side against another for the next multi billion bailout, which they will steal as soon as it arrives.

I feel sorry for all Ukranians, both Russian and Ukrainian speakers. But until they off the oligarchs nothing will change. The oligarcks are the problem, not Russia or the EU. Of course the U.S. is abetting the destruction of yet another country in hopes that its U.S. olgarchs can replace the native ones.

To all Ukrainians I would say the uniform of the day is HOA!

Did the oligarchs who raped Russia under Yeltsin originate from "the East" or were they thieves with deep Western ties, and did Putin make life better or worse for the average Russian after taking the reigns from the incompetent drunkard Yeltsin?

putin fears only 1 thing: getting voted out of office. that happens, and his old KGB buddies turn on him because the world court would then be allowed to even think of hitting him with war crimes and THAT cannot happen in russia. if obama really wanted to do this its simple in concept, impossible in theory:

1. have the fed raise rates 300-400 basis points overnight (i wish it would because it would destroy the hyperinflation the fed & CNBC lie about regarding energy, food, education, healthcare, etc.) the ruble would implode (so would other EM currencies), dollar rips, russian markets tank. this in conjunction with economic sanctions would bring the russian economy to its knees. this will obviously never happen because the elite in washington have an addiction to debt which has in-turn become a national security issue that nobody seems to care about.

2. approve keystone, drill-baby-drill, frack-U: only way to get AND KEEP the europeans on-board is by making sure they don't have the threat of being frozen to death hanging over them. dems wont allow that so-long as a democratic doner has a $100 million donation vig hanging over their heads and will DK it should they allow it to pass.

3. economic sanctions on anything else they export ie. lumber, vodka, etc. don't allow their economy to breathe and anyone who does business with them gets the same treatment.

take-out their banking & energy sectors and the people would have no choice but to turn on him because then it hits them directly in their pockets. all this other stuff we have been doing up until this point is nothing more than trimming around the edges of the problem and simply attempting to make the optics appear as tho we are trying to do something about it.

while we're at it, maybe we can do the same to mexico until they give us back our fuggin marine.

Don't know about the veracity of your claims, but one should keep in mind the difference between Russian and US personal income.

Also, one should recognize that the US will effectively default in one way or another and thus get to keep all the nice stuff we bought with all the money we borrowed from people stupid enough to trust Barack Obama with their life savings.

Your analysis isn't correct.

If the ruble implodes, then Russian exports will also become cheaper and foreign imports will become more expensive.

For example, if a bottle of vodka costs $20 now, then it'll be cheaper to produce it and the same bottle will cost $5 for foreigners. That's a wonderful price advantage over competitors.
Coca Cola can now sell 20 bottles for one bottle of vodka, then it'll be able to sell only 5.

If Russia continues to sign oil and gas deals in Ruble and disconnect the prices of these resources from the Dollar then an imploding Ruble would make gas and oil really cheap. Why would Europe them buy then from ME or America?

This is a game that runs long. Russian economy is hurting because of the sanctions but German manufacturing is also down. America needs to keep dollar king. Who has the longest breath? This is kind of an interesting post. Given Putin's ability to contort the term limits contained in the Russian constitution into anything that will keep him in power, I'm not real sure he's worried about re-election.

On the other hand, given that so much US QE money went into the carry trade, raising US interest rates would call to mind Ross Perot's "giant, sucking sound" but only in reverse-- so it's no surprise to see how virulently the Okhrana and all the other non-US entities react against this exceedingly fatal proposal by down-voting you. Congratulations, you've scared the shit out of them.

Also agree that increased US energy independence is another nail in the coffin of those tyrannical petro-kleptocracies (yes, Russia, I mean you too) who have been keeping the proles down thanks to the flood tide of Uncle Sam's flithy lucre rolling in. Now that it is no longer rolling in, at least not at the same level as before, global instability is greatly heightened. Especially in all of the most despotic places on the planet. So, good for us.

The US is the largest market in the world. Anybody who thinks they can replace our business with crumbs from Third World shitholes is deluding themselves, or more properly trying to delude us.

Anybody who get up-arrowed this much on a Russian thread is obviously Okhrana being congratulated by all of the other Okhrana agents busy typing out their bizarre "Putin is my Fuhrer" scribbles. Or else a nazi. Maybe both.

And what's so bad about more of everything? You think the West rose out of the mud by sitting on the side of the river watching prayer wheels turn? Our current problem is that we are making less and less, not more and more. You think the system is going to crash and what are you doing about it?

If you're smart, you're piling up more of everything against the time when there will be nothing left to obtain. Do nazi mothers read their children the fable of the Ant and the Grasshopper. Just wondering, not accusing your X-donor of anything specific.

Farmers will always, eat.  Russian farmers adapted long ago, perhaps the farmers in the E.U. just need to follow their lead.

The reset I see occuring is one of skilled labor finally being compensated justly.  The useless paper-pushers can go fuck themselves, they will get hungry soon enough.  Long sharecropping in my book...

Farmers will always eat. Not when Ukraine got collectivized in the 1930s. And where are all these Russian farmers, by the way? There's a reason why the country imports food from the EU and it's not because Siberians like a little Gruyere with their vodka.

And you do realize that a sharecropper is just one step above a serf? Someone who does all the work and turns over half the profit to the guy who owns the land?

I don't have a clue who he is since he got out of the hole. Makes me doubt everything I ever gave him credit for.

For instance, if he really believes the sanctions are "a big mistake" he's a fucking fool for not understanding the dynamics and who they ultimately serve. Otherwise, he's a fully compromised water-boy for the elite, providing their evil with the cover of political stupidity. Horse-race analysis of a facade is but distracting sophistry.

Keep an eye on Syria.   I think that is where the next flash-point may reside.   The U.S. is 'tickling' the edges right now - probing.  While Assad may stay or leave, that Huge Russian Naval/submarine dock & repair shop, ain't goin' nowhere anytime soon.   It would be curious to see if anyone has a line on recent 'shipments' to Syria - by land or sea, from Russia...

This was on the propaganda media's FoxNews (NeoConNews) about Syria.
In propaganda watching circles, this is called a "pivot."

Keeping in mind the other shit that has been told/sold to the the American sheeple, read this from FoxNews:

A top White House national security adviser said Sunday that the United States has strong support from Syrian residents in its effort to destroy Islamic State positions in their country, downplaying protests and arguing that Syrian President Bashar Assad is a common enemy.??"We've seen strong expressions of support from the Syrian opposition for the effort that we're making,” Deputy National Security Adviser Tony Blinken told “Fox News Sunday.” ??"The moderate opposition is the common denominator to being able to be a counterweight on the ground to (Islamic State) and then over time also being a counterweight to Assad," he continued. "If you're going to change the dynamics in Syria, if you're going to get to a political transition that moves Assad out, you have to have a strong moderate opposition. We are doing both."

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2014/09/28/top-wh-security-adviser-says-...

Okay, translation:

Despite not asking Assad for permission, they somehow KNOW that the Syrian people want the DC US to bomb their country on their behalf. He then says those people in support are really the "Syrian Opposition," not the Syrian people. Now the "Syrian Opposition" is really a construct of the CIA, Israel, and their allies.
He goes on to spew that the "moderate opposition" (I would assume the same above "Syrian Opposition") will one day serve as a future "counterweight" against Assad and eventually assist in getting "Assad out."

Basically he is laying the ground, or mind, work for military moves against Assad. Soon we will hear that Assad is "hampering our actions against ISIS" in Syria, blah, lying blah.?
An American, born at night, just not last night, and not a US subject.?

Unfortunately Americans north of the border only identify with "American," "US" and "Colonialist."

"US" is the nationality of the occupiers and oppressors of the American people, and "Colonialist" is archaic.

Therefore we Americans north of the Rio commonly identify with "American" within our own country.

The other Americans, citizens of the American hemisphere, are just as welcome to use the term as anyone else for their identity--no one said they couldn't.

As such, the identity of "American"north of the Rio does not preclude or prevent other Americans from identifying with being Americans. My Mexican friends certainly identify with being Mexican as much as I identify with being American, but they also identify with being a citizen of the American hemisphere, which I am as well. "It's all cool."

I am not against another term for an American north of the Rio, but that has to happen organically, and cannot be forced upon people.

An American, and an American, not US subject.

Martin Armstrong is a NWO hack who got kicked out of the club. He has a good knowledge of economic history, but he's not relevant when it comes to politics.

Here's how it really works, oh Martin "Precious metals are not manipulated" Armstrong:

Putin doesn't really control anything.  He's like an angry girlfriend extracting gifts from a boyfriend who pissed her off.  There are maybe 250 to 300 Russian oligarchs who control Russia, who live far above the realm of the powers that be, who care not about nationalism and country, and when those sanctions start hurting their profits, they will motivate Putin to change his course.

He's about as much in charge as Obama is. Duh?  Get it?

Now if you say that's crap, you only have to look at Iran and the sudden change of relations that happened there to think that the religious "Goombas" control Iran.  That's a front.  The revolutionary guard and the elite wealthy pull the strings.

Iran has it's elite power brokers at the top, no different then the US or Britain.

Having been thrust out of the club by "the boys", Martin is trying to re-establish himself on this side of the camp to fill up his coffers.

I personally have corresponded with them man.  He's clueless on so many things.

Hammer stoutly and pray devoutly.
