Presenting ISIS-Beating "Mad Max" Battle Tanks And Buses

Tyler Durden's picture

When it comes to fighting the barbaric beheaders formerly known as ISIS, Kurdish fighters appear to have gone to the 1979 movie "Mad Max" for inspiration. As The Daily Mail notes, while significantly outgunned by Islamic State, the Kurds have created a fleet of well-armored, elaborately-designed, ominous-looking battle-buses by converting tractors and trucks into tanks...

Spot The Difference...

1979 Movie Mad Max...

And 2014 Kurdish Fighters...

Source: The Daily Mail

*  *  *

So to sum up - ISIS (the enemy) is using the latest and greatest US military equipment that it either stole from (or was given) Iraqi military and the Kurdish Peshmurga (our allies) are using tractors and trucks cobbled together with steel plates, duct tape, and surreal images.

Ok...

Yeah sure. because I look at those vehicles and say "genius".  You don't draw a fucking animal face on your tractor battle tank duel use all purpose war and plow machine to hide your intentions.

Honestly, they should blare John Phillip Sousa music as they head into battle and really confuse their enemy.

If you were forced to fight for where you live, these things are less than perfect, but a lot better than trying to fight from inside the average school bus.

1/4inch steel has to up your chances of survival over 1/16inch aluminum.

If you've got nothing, something is an improvement.

That particle board and plywood armor looks pretty thick.  Probably will stop hand-thrown rocks and bottles.

On the plus side, that shielding material will be undetected by modern anti-tank fire, which will probably just pass through without detonation.

Now, just paint the girly pin-up pictures on the "Betty Lou", and rip through those ISIS lines!

Those 'tanks' will stand up to non-jacketed and some jacketed small arms bullets.  They will not stand up to an 'armor piercing' bullet from a sniper rifle.  An anti-tank missle, or recoilless rifle round, or a tank round, will go through it without slowing down.

You need to understand that a hard-steel-core bullet from a 30-06 caliber - same thing used in WWI - will go through mild steel armor like that pictured, like hot-steel through styrofoam.

A WWII surplus armor peircing bullet for an M1 Garand will absolutely go straight through 3/8 inch of AR500 hardened steel...  And AR500 is probably out of the Kurds price range.

"ISIS are battle-hardened, experienced fighters whose only goal or mission in life is to get killed in the fight," says Rooz Bahjat, one of the Kurdish Regional Government's most senior security officials involved in stopping ISIS from advancing across Iraq. If the US would provide close air support for the Kurds ISIS would very quickly loose that "top of the line American hardware..." If Obama is serious about degrading ISIS then attacking massed fighters with close air support would be very effective.

Our government would rather use a multi million dollar cruise missile to kill some random sheep herder smoking a cigarette in a field than help a beleaguered Allie though. Our government's actions show who they really support.

It takes some pretty thick hard steel to defeat 7.62x51 at close range, like 3/8 inch thick, and if you are talking russian 12.7mm heavy machine gun, or even M2 with 50 BMG rounds, you are going to need at least 1 inch thick armor.  That is very heavy stuff and not practical to weld onto a typical bus.  These rigs might protect you against 7.62x39 at longer ranges though.  Better than nothing I suppose.

That is because ISIS represents Fundamental Islam

Going back to the roots ya'll, just like their daddy Muhammad and the voice of  the spirit "Alah"

Let's be clear on who our friends and enemies are in this shitfight.

On one side we have a bunch of middle eastern religious nut-jobs that demand complete obedience on pain of death presiding over a leadership devoted to an extremist fundamentalist interpretation of Sunni Islam and the relegation of women to second class citizens with few legal rights. They also have a great fondness for using public beheadings as a way to curb dissent.  Yes - I am talking about our allies Saudi Arabia.  In fact the Saudis have just chopped off their 46th head this year - while in in August a total of 19 were beheaded for crimes including sorcery - yes sorcery.

On the other side we have a bunch of middle eastern religious nut-jobs that demand complete obedience on pain of death presiding over a leadership devoted to an extremist fundamentalist interpretation of Sunni Islam...blah blah.

All clear now?

Bombs away!!!

Very sorry to say it, but i think Zerohedge has "jumped the shark."

I would rather see a no update story than this stuff.  That goes for Ferguson too.

These kinds of Hollywood-esque "slice-of-life - behind the jihad" viral marketing just builds a cloud atlas for selling ISIS and all the creeping doom of unknowns unknowns - like an international mercenary strike force to fight these "wars."

Love the econ stuff.

The whole ISIS-a-go go sabre rattling just supports the current global fascism thing.

Roll-out when the fireline is badly pressed and no AT weapons are spotted, hide in a barn somewhere close otherwise.

ISIS RISE CAUGHT USA OFF GUARD: General James Clapper admitted his boys goofed up on spotting ISIS as a growing security threat.  "You know, da boys got so worn out building our World's Biggest Facility To Spy On The Citizens Who Pay Our Salaries, out in Utah, and then had to test what the facility could do, and in that testing, apparently, the Facility told one a da boys that there are nude photos of Hollywood starlets in the Cloud, and before you know it, there was so much hunting and trading photos of starlets, and then also hunting and trading photos of each other's wives and girlfriends and hookers, that da guy who was tasked to run the Don't Forget To Check The Near East Every Now and Then to Justify Our Enormous Budget just plain forgot.  Are there even nude photos in the Near East?  Are there even Clouds in the desert?  Is India in the Near East?  In summary, I know NOTHING, NOTHING, and have never seen a nude photo of Jennifer Lawrence or Nicole Kidman".

About those so-called *Top of the line US armements* the IS (whomever they represent atm) is reputed possessing, I sincerily wonder.

A few tube artilleries, a hundred or so Humvee jeeps, wow, papa Assad must be trembling in his russian-made boots.

The problem with US gear is that only US and Israel are really capable to repair it on any meaningful scale, you wont be able to field even an arty battery with brasilian-made spares.

Its not like the russians, when you can fuel your T-64 from your kamaz and go on your merry way.

MArtin Weiss ---

ISIS is winning?

Regardless of the many gun sight videos you see on YouTube

and TV, the plain truth is, coalition air strikes are only

doing minor damage to the terrorist army. They're strictly

taking out the few armed vehicles and facilities that are

far removed from populated areas.

The plain truth is, the ISIS Command and Control centers

... the ISIS top leaders and ... nearly the entire ISIS

army of jihadists are embedded among innocent civilians

in cities and villages, where coalition forces dare not

strike.

Result: The ISIS terror army is still on the move, swarming

into villages, taking more territory and imposing their rule.

Indeed, right now, ISIS is on the verge of capturing

Kobani — a large Kurdish city of some 400,000 residents

near Syria's border with Turkey.

Just in the last few days ...

ISIS has already taken some 60 Kurdish villages

in the area and have them fully under their control.

ISIS has surrounded Kobani from the West, the

South and the East, and ISIS forces are now

Qatar/Obama/Turkey caliphate bloc. Specifically Turkey being the biggest roadblock against an independent Kurdistan. Frankly I don't think Qatar really gives a fuck about Kurdistan one way or the other as long the Caliphate 2.0 succeeds this time around since the Muslim Brotherhood couldn't get Caliphate 1.0 done.

The Sauds are paper tigers. If they wielded so much power why would they be trying to cutting deals behind everyones backs with the Russians to basically give over gas dominance in the region to the Shiite states when they are supposed to be Arab head of the petro part of petrodollar? They shouldn't need to cut deals like that in the first place if they were running the show.

You don't understand. A Caliphate implies loss of authority for the local rulers of Qatar, for instance. ISIS is in the position of Lee Harvey Oswald; useful for a while; then not. No one has any intention of them winning any significant political power; it's actually kind of clever, get all the sub-normals to volunteer for the Caliphate Makers and then wipe them out. and they will be eliminated when they're no longer useful.

The thesis part of the Hegelian Dialetic benefits everyone. It is the anti-thesis part where it deviates.

You don't understand Qatar will own the whole Caliphate anyways by buying key companies and funding it openly now. They get to install their puppets next aka the Muslim Brotherhood as the political front while ISIS takes over the religious end of Sharia Law and becomes the Imans and such.

But you have to admit:

- State, Local Governments & Even Universities Financing have been taken down
- Federal Debt is growing Exponentially
- Congress Abdicated it's powers of War & Budget
- Illegal Continuing Resolutions are given a nod even though they contain unheard of double digit Budget Increases
- Double Digit Budget Increases in Continuing Resolutions should be a Felony and all of Congress & the President should be Impeached
- Nothing in Continuing Resolutions since 2008 has been laid down to provide an Environment or Structure for controlling where Money creation has taken place or to Direct it to "Good Jobs" for Main Street
- Nothing in Dodd-Frank or Continuing Resolutions has Laid down anything to address the money that is inflating by a huge percent only to be used for Executives Compensation and Gambling in London or on Wall Street

Posit: We have no Proof that our government cares about Main Street and that we have not been Subjected to a "Silent Coup". We have no Proof that our government will clean up after they sneak proxies across the border to do whatever they have planned.
