A "No Social Media List" For Extremists And Potential Terrorists?
Submitted by Michael Snyder of The American Dream blog,
You have heard of the “No Fly List”, right? Well, now the Tories are pledging that if they win the next election in the UK they will establish a list of “extremists” that will have to have their social media posts “approved in advance by the police” before they post them. There are also plans to ban “extremists” from broadcasting and speaking at public events. The stated goal of these proposals is to crack down on terrorism, but in the process the civil liberties of the British people are going to be flushed down the toilet. And the American people need to pay close attention to what is going on in the UK, because whatever police state measures are implemented over there usually also get implemented over here eventually. For those that believe that we need to do “whatever it takes” to fight terrorism, there is a very important question that you need to ask yourself. What if the government decides that you are an “extremist” because of what you believe? What will you do then?
When I saw a report in the Telegraph today entitled “Extremists to have Facebook and Twitter vetted by anti-terror police“, I could hardly believe it.
Do the British people actually want a “no social media list” that will essentially ban people from using Facebook and Twitter even though they haven’t actually been convicted of doing anything wrong?
The following is a brief excerpt from that article…
Extremists will have to get posts on Facebook and Twitter approved in advance by the police under sweeping rules planned by the Conservatives.
They will also be barred from speaking at public events if they represent a threat to “the functioning of democracy”, under the new Extremist Disruption Orders.
Theresa May, the Home Secretary, will lay out plans to allow judges to ban people from broadcasting or protesting in certain places, as well as associating with specific people.
The plans — to be brought in if the Conservatives win the election in May — are part of a wide-ranging set of rules to strengthen the Government’s counter-terrorism strategy.
This sounds like an Orwellian nightmare for the British people.
And who is an “extremist” anyway?
We are being told that those that belong to ISIS are extremists, and nobody would argue that.
But the article in the Telegraph makes it sound like any group “that spreads or promotes hatred” would be considered extremist. And under these new proposals, even belonging to such a group could get you thrown into prison for up to 10 years…
The Home Secretary will also introduce “banning orders” for extremist groups, which would make it a criminal offence to be a member of or raise funds for a group that spreads or promotes hatred. The maximum sentence could be up to 10 years in prison.
So what does all of that exactly mean?
Would anti-abortion groups be considered “extremist”?
Would groups promoting traditional values be considered “extremist”?
Would groups protesting against the abuses of the British government be considered “extremist”?
Would Christian churches ultimately be considered “extremist” because they don’t agree with the radical liberal agenda of the central government?
Essentially what the Tories propose to do is to tightly regulate all speech. And there is no way to do that without turning the entire United Kingdom into a totalitarian hellhole.
Meanwhile, the United States continues to march down a similar road.
For example, we now live in an environment where a 16-year-old kid can be suspended from school and arrested by the police for writing a story “about using a gun to shoot a dinosaur”…
In another case of school officials adhering to ridiculous zero tolerance policies, a student from South Carolina was suspended and arrested by police recently after writing an imaginative story about using a gun to shoot a dinosaur.
The offender, 16-year-old Alex Stone of Summerville High School in a suburb of Charleston was in the course of completing an assignment where students were asked to write something brief about themselves, much like Facebook status updates.
Stone told reporters that he found himself in hot water with teachers for being over imaginative and mentioning the word ‘gun’.
This is utter insanity, and it is getting worse with each passing day.
And it is not just kids that have to deal with this kind of thing. A Big Brother police state control grid is being slowly constructed all around us. And authorities are preparing for the day when they will have to use lethal force to keep the population in line. Just check out the following excerpt from a recent Infowars report…
A document released by the U.S. Army details preparations for “full scale riots” within the United States during which troops may be forced to engage in a “lethal response” to deal with unruly crowds of demonstrators.
The appearance of the document amidst growing unrest in Ferguson, Missouri, with the National Guard now being called in to deal with the disorder, is an ominous coincidence.
The 132-page document, titled U.S. Army Techniques Publication 3-39.33: Civil Disturbances (PDF), was written in April 2014 and recently obtained by Public Intelligence.
The document makes it clear that the techniques detailed therein are to be applied both outside and inside the “continental United States (CONUS)” in the event of “unruly and violent crowds” where it is “necessary to quell riots and restore public order.”
The training manual outlines scenarios under which, “Civil unrest may range from simple, nonviolent protests that address specific issues, to events that turn into full-scale riots.”
So precisely who is the government so concerned about anyway?
If ISIS and other Islamic terror groups are the problem, why train to fight against Americans?
Sadly, the truth is that much of the focus in the “war on terror” has been turned inward during the Obama administration. Many officials in the federal government now insist that “homegrown terror” is the greatest threat that we face.
And you may be quite surprised to learn who the government considers “potential terrorists” to be. The following is an extended excerpt from my previous article entitled “72 Types Of Americans That Are Considered “Potential Terrorists” In Official Government Documents“…

Wow, thought crime is here.
Gee, well I guess I "qualify" for most of these on the list.
Ya see...Joseph McCarthy was dead on fucking right all along and now it's worse than he could have ever imagined! Ooops...did that just get me banned? LOL
Well how's about this: FUCK YOU, TREASONOUS, TERRORIST, GOVERNMENT SCUMBAGS!!!
I'm pretty sure anyone who makes up a retarded list like this of 72 "types" of people who can be banned from exercising their 1st Amendment right are most definitely the biggest terrorists of all in this entire fucking world.
So once again in case you government fucktards didn't catch it the first time: FUCK YOU, TREASONOUS, TERRORIST, GOVERNMENT SCUMBAGS!!!
When will these Marxist, sociopath, MUTANTS classify the comments section of ZeroHedge as "social media" and ban us from commenting here? I'm surprised that's not on the list. They must have missed it.
So this is why I call these assholes M.U.T.A.N.T.S., because zombies are fake...but MUTANTS are fucking real!

This is what the founders of the US ran away from, even if it meant sailing over an ocean on a one way trip into the NA wilderness.
I stopped reading the list around #15 because half already pertained to me. Come get me you bloody British bastards. BTW, f*^k the queen!!

England is a sick, depraved nation - probably among the sickest, most depraved in history (nice how their media buried the story of thousands of young children being sexually abused by British Elites in recent years).
It makes perfect sense, though, as it was the central base of operations for the House of the Red Shield.
People of Englang waltzed in and GAVE up their guns. So here we are.
Never thought about it that way, but of course. A dystopia and utopia (that would make St. Simon blush) to be administered, manipulated as required to lead the Sheeple in the direction needed for the benefit of 'the few'.
Thank you, angel_of_joy.
Nobody cared about what happened to Ernst Zundel. They believed what happens to Holohoax-doubters would have nothing to do with themselfes. But that's how Salami-tactics works. They will get everyone opposing the NWO and the lies and principles it is based upon.
Its time for us to make our stand.

If you disagree with progressive (regressives) they persecute you.
If we are entering into Orwell's 1984, then Jack Londons 'The Iron Heel' is the logical extension.
What about "members of secret societies" ?
That's classified.
To the progressive, this is not censorship of free speech but a gentle "nudge" towards Utopia.
Y'all got on this boat for different reasons, but y'all come to the same place. So now I'm asking more of you than I have before. Maybe all. Sure as I know anything, I know this - they will try again. Maybe on another world, maybe on this very ground swept clean. A year from now, ten? They'll swing back to the belief that they can make people... better. And I do not hold to that. So no more runnin'. I aim to misbehave. -- Captain Reynolds

Welcome to the raggedy edge, bitchez.
I love that movie (and the show). So seditious that I'm amazed it ever got a greeen light.
Yup, and the naughty men are the only ones with ideas of freedom.

This plan is proposed by the Tories. Same outcome, different justifications.
I used to assume - wrongly, it turns out - that people were mostly rational. This measure shows such ignorance of human nature that it must be must be malevolent, as I don't like to think of people being this absolutely stupid.
The Tory convention has been all over the TV screens lately. Yesterday it was the turn of Theresa May, the evil Home Secretary, explaining how still more surveillance powers are needed "so the police can protect us" from terrorists. (What's this, no paedophiles, drug traffickers, and unauthorized MP3 copiers?)
The best part was the glaring red "EXTREMIST THREAT" caption while she was speaking. Well, yes: yes, she is. Good to see that at least one clever TV technician is on to her; hope he didn't get sacked for it.
You really can't make it up. They've gone full retard; well beyond parody. The problem is, Labour are a pack of socialist incompetents led by a buffoon; and the LibDems and UKIP are hopeless each in their own special way. So what does that leave? The Monster Raving Loony Party is starting to look rather good...
c'mon- the speech was only last week and you can't make the connection? ....
http://www.globalresearch.ca/british-pm-david-cameron-non-violent-extrem...
I think they see that left to its own the 9/11 truth movement - amomg others - are gaining decisive ground and so they are trying to preempt their judgement day by making its discussion illegal.
I am more direct and non-chalant about these issues. I also don't like to be "politically correct". In short:
Blair and Cameron should be brought to justice and condemned as war criminals and I would sleep better at night if they received the same sentence as Joachim von Ribbentrop!
So, there you have it. Clear speech. No beating around the bushes.
Bull. The elitists are proceeding right on schedule.

D'ya think Cameron will ban the mention of the name ''Tyler Durden'?
When Cameron and Obama meet 'in private', which one plays the 'sultry bitch' role? Perhaps BOTH do (it depends on WHO or WHAT is arranging this meeting, and how many strapons the REAL master can accomadate them with).
AHH, 'THOUGHT-CRIMES'... how fucking DELICIOUS... I'm waiting for the British countryside to erect billboards with a picture of Tony Blair (AKA BUSH the YOUNGER) and the caption 'Do You Miss Me Yet?'!

Thanks for your time, and I hope that this short message helps you to come to the light that we all share.

No problem. Just tell 'em that you're observing Kabal Talmudic Laws, Principles and Practices to... "Screw anyone you like or don't like."
Anyone who causes you trouble is Antisemitic and is persecuting you. That should work, to let you get away with almost anything.
Sorry for interjecting so fucking often, Captain.

'ANTI-SEMITIC'? Not at all.
I hate anyone who organizes in tribes of Kabbalistic drone-minded 'magical' so-called 'spiritual guidance counselors' and tells me to SUBMIT to their way of thinking because some tweaker child-abusing fucks in centuries PAST decided that the future generations should be made to SUBMIT to their debauched and totally anti-life way of thinking; or be subject to the foreskins of their penises; the female clitorises, or other bodily parts (up to and INCLUDING HEADS) be CUT OFF for a failure to AQUIESE to their demands for enslavement to THEM. OMFG, try to run a business on 'SATURDAY'...

OOPS.
No 'social media' thingie allowed for ME...
CAMERON (and others) have me 'on the list' now.
Strange but I did not see "openly anti semitic" on the list ?
The Elitists are panicking.
I'm glad this made the first post, because this is exactly what's happening. They have lost control of the storyline. No one believes a word of what they are saying about their motivations for current policy, which is leading people to question their past actions, which is leading to a larger and larger number of people opening their minds about 9-11. From that point on, it's game over for them, and they know it. No matter how draconian, the system MUST have some support from those governed. They realize they are losing this support, and the reason is not because people are fighting; it's because we are talking and thinking! They are realizing that there is only one way to stop this: stop talking and thinking. Orwell here we come...
I dunno. I'd like to see a poll taken to determine the percentage of Americans who think the 9/11 report is legit. Hell, I'd like to know how many of us know that three buildings fell in lower manhattan that day.
I'm 57 now, and I'd say most of my cohort regard MSM/.gov as infallible and totally honest. It's Stockholm Syndrome on steroids. It's as if they're blind to anything that doesn't emanate from their tv screens.
You will eventually be correct, SofaPapa- but will it happen soon enough?
"You will eventually be correct, SofaPapa- but will it happen soon enough?"
Um, NO.
The time has now long passed, and the opportunities were not taken. The polls WERE taken, and the people went back to sleep anyway.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LjxHgBRWMhY
Why in THE FUCK do you think that the Tylers decided to start this website? Did they think that this shit could be somehow magically 'CURED'?
SHIT.
You're admittedly 57 now, but you are listening, STILL, to people like 'SofaPapa', in the forlorn and lost hope that things 'will get BETTER', sometime in the fucking FUTURE.
As for ME, I just got my first-run copy of the DVD 'The Anatomy Of A Great Deception'. I donated funds, and the people who put this movie out haven't let me down.
The time has long-passed for a so-called 'non-violent' solution.
Fucking fifty-seven, huh? 'You will eventually be correct, Sofa-Papa'? DAMN, you are STILL as gullible as you were when your mama told you that Santa Claus was REAL!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0Q5eZhCPuc
You might be surprised that you and i agree more than you know. We agree that there will be no change to the power structure without violence. But before any violence happens, there will have to be much more loss of popular co-optedness than there is now. I stand by what I said that people no longer are buying the mainstream storyline, but it's a ways from moving away from the storyline to actually being motivated enough to take on a power structure that is nothing if not steeped in incredible acts of violence.
Where you and I may disagree is that I find the whole process of overthrowing the system - while satisfying on a gut "justice" level - to be kind of sad and pointless. Because assuming someone leads that overthrow, then there will be a new power structure in place which the bulk of people will follow, the new PTB will abuse their new power, and the cycle will repeat. Seems to be keyed into human nature.
Thus, like Sam in the movie Brazil, I retreat to the only place they haven't yet figured out how to get to: my own mind. I look for peace inside myself. An externally just and peaceful world will not happen. But within my sphere (tiny though it is it includes friends and family), I will do my best. One last thing I think you and I would agree on, depending on some external group or force or entity for my happiness or security is a naive pipe dream.
Why don't you just kill yourself then? If you fancy yourself as a take charge kinda guy, and that humanity can't possibly survive the future you perceive, there's only one logical course of action, no?
Failing that, stay the fuck outta my sphere. Thank you.
I'm gonna miss inthemix if this comes true
I guarantee chunga, they will not take me alive the fucking cunts.
They WILL, make 96 famous, because at least one of the cunts will go down with a quarter inch ball bearing through their right eye.

Right on! I'm in the mountains doing the same.
I've drawn my line and won't back up any farther.
I'm making a list too.
Pretty much opposite of this one.
I'm making a list too. Part 1 has 435 names. Working on the next parts.

Is there not a law limiting the amount of stupidity you can legally muster??
They will also be barred from speaking at public events if they represent a threat to “the functioning of democracy”
More Orwellian than Orwellian
Meanwhile Cameron has a new definition of a terrorist:
British PM David Cameron: “Non-Violent Extremists” Including “9/11 Truthers” and “Conspiracy Theorists” are Just as Dangerous as ISIL Terrorists

Bootlicking toadie.
I'd like to kick that chodesmoker right in the fucking nuts (in a completely non-violent way, of course)
Are you sure he has any ?
I'm a terrorist. And, proud one who has Critical & individualistic thinking skills. So, with that said, go fuck yourselves NWO.
who or what, precisely, is the "NWO"?
For serious.
NWO = Manifest Destiny (MD) of the 1800s, but revised for the 21st Century
Call it "MD 2.0". It's "MD 1.0 gone global".
MD 1.0 had the Anglos running the show. 2.0 has Bankster-funded Zionists running the show.
Well, your way behind the curve if you haven't figured it out by now. Especially if you've frequent ZH. For starters it's the Global Elite which own the Religious, Educational, Economic & Political systems which have domain & control of mankind.
The Central Controllers, Social Engineers, Eugenists & Fascists who's ultimate goal is Total Complete Full Spectrum World Domination and will stop at nothing to achieve it.
Good definition. I hope you recognize that you also expose their weakness - diversity. These people aren't all on the same team end-goal-wise. Some just want to have control, others want to devastate the population, while many are simply mad. They will turn on each other. Expect it to happen during the next ginormous crisis.
Hey duffy, look up bilderberg, cfr, trilateral commission, and rothschilds on that search engine thingy, paying close attention to the names rockefeller, kissinger, brezinski, soros, bernays, and bush, for starters, and then research the fedral reserve act, agenda 21, operation mockingbird, false flags, jekyll island, keynes, jp morgan, jamie dimon, and any cia and treasury officials that strike your fancy in your research, and then get back to us with your next question.
Tongue, Sincere thanks! You just saved me a bunch of "hunt & peck" on this keyboard.
How about the guy that tells Obama to eat a turd?
Hey Obama go eat a turd.
I assume he doesn't like eating turds - but since he always has that shit eating grin on his face I can't be sure.
Wouldn't you have a shit eating grin if you had convinced voters (twice!) to elect you to the most important position on earth and when you got there you played golf all the time?
He didn't convince anyone of anything. The story was written well in advance by those who own the media outlets and the mechanics of election. Once the media is compliant and the vote counting assured, they can put anyone they want in. The skill of the puppet has jack shit to do with it.
XitSam, Nope, I think if I did that, I'd have a fucking head-wound.
Only fools shoot puppets.
"Would groups promoting traditional values be considered “extremist”?"
Let's see: Keeping women bear-foot and pregnant and unable to vote was once a traditional value. Physically owning slaves and applying a three-fifths doctrine to human beings was once a traditional value, too. Burning witches at the stake - once a traditional value. Selling your daughter into marriage - also once a traditional value.
Oh, those traditional values. How dear they are!
So, you're saying you are pro-free speech, so long as you aren't offended by it.
Is that right?
So holding another human being in slavery or selling your daughter is "free speech".
I made note of that. Thanks.
"Let's see: Keeping women bear-foot and pregnant and unable to vote was once a traditional value."
~~~
Basically, to answer your question & engage you on your apparently LIMITLESS intellectual sophistry... It all kinda depends on where they got pregnant in the first place...
http://monsterphoto.iwarp.com/imagesb2/bearftride.jpg
Good Lord, you're an idiot.
1a. Letting women vote gave us Obama. As Ann Coulter pointed out, women voting for Obama is justification enough why they shouldn't vote--even Mrs. Postal says this much.
1b.Bare foot and pregnant is just a bonus.
2.If I owned some slaves, just think of all the work I could get done.
3. If witches don't wanna be burned, they shouldn't be witches. Kinda liike gays.
4.Why shouldn't I sell my daughter? You really would freak if I kept her for my own use...
Edit: If you can't figure out where the sarc tags go... well, I can't help you then.
Priceless!
E-Freedom Zones are a natural extension to Bush's physical Freedom Zones.
It is very interesting that according to the list you can only be a right wing extremist because everyone knows that there is absolutely no such thing as a left wing extremist.
They are on the usefull idiot list for liquidation first.
Please read your history.
Anybody who tries to make the statement that conservatives believe in limited government and individual freedom are as fucked in the head as the control freak liberals. They are all statists of a different flavor.
The trouble with words and labels. Two people can both say they are conservatives, and completely disagree. I mean hell, Clinton even got away with his performance questioning the meaning of "is". There are no safe labels. Judge men by the total of their actions and statements, not by any label.
Wow
Serious "Thought Police" shit here
there needs to be a law addressing the dress code. an international panel of fashion experts needs to come up with a wardrobe that is acceptable to wear by all people of the world. the chaos in dress and personal appearance gives the impression of disorder, a breeding ground for terrorists and subversion. conformity assures security. we must be all the same or the terrorists will kill us all. no more diversity!
Cue Harrison Bergeron...
Whaaaaaat????
This can't be true...if you apply this list to the US population you will basically cover 99% of its citizens....ooooh, waaait a minute!!!
Don't worry Americans, you can always reverse-immigrate back to Europe. We will receive you with open arms and blank checks.
well that's just about everyone with an IQ above Obamas golf handicap
The Tories?
Oh, you mean Cameron's Torah party... oh, yeah, well, I mean certain facts have to be kept out of the light of day. Obviously.
Israel control of UK government - WhaleFirst they came for the people who questioned whether Germany really killed 6 million Jews while fighting a 2 front war - but I said nothing because I had no sympathy for Nazis, racists, or other extremists...
Then I learned that speaking or writing certain facts are to be deemed extremism...
But then, it was probably too late.
The extremists are the NWO, central bankers and Loyd Blankfein
It seems like Goverments just grow and grow - and then run out of ideas (and then food) - and then in some desparate effort to keep their jobs - decide the only way forward is to round up and kill off the population before there is a popular revolt. Is it really that simple (and sad)?
The State just grows and becomes more and more government-y until it reaches a climax and starts up with extermination programs? Does society naturally become more and more liberal until it finally becomes a kiling machine?
One minute, girls are burning their bras down on campus. Next thing you know, they're bull-dozing bodies into mass graves.
I knew it would happen. I knew, one day, that something like this would come along and give me cause to leave this shithole for good.
And here it is, the last straw. 18 months, tops, and I'm fucking gone, tories or no tories.
A huge kneejerk reaction to this might change my mind - but I know it won't happen.
I've been desperatly trying to find criticism on Syria bomings. Lol, what a waste of time that was.
This place is too far gone.
Fuck it.
I would tell you to come to the US, but, as you can see, you would be labeled an extremist here too. Russia is looking pretty good to me. YES RUSSIA! All you Russia haters can suck it.
Should I be keeping score, like a badge of honor?
I am like 65 of 70
LOLZ!
i just bought a container of burkas authentically made in saudi arabia. beat the crowd. buy them at a specially discounted predelivery rate. don't wait! the terrorists have won already and will be knocking on your door any day to make sure you are in conformity with their new dress code for women.
Problem:
There are simply far too few people who "get it". The vast majority of people I associate with have ABSOLUTELY NO FUCKING CLUE that the walls are closing in around all of us.
By the time they wake up and see what has happened, it will likely be too late (without an uprising the likes of which this country hasn't seen before, imo).
Where did I put my goddamn happy pills...??! Need another dose, stat.
The internet will never last anyway. The combination of national security concerns, a collapsing global economy, civil unrest, draconian governmental responses, and the imperative for ordinary people to move their lives back off of cyberspace in order to gain privacy and avoid predation, will punch so many holes in the web that it will just fall to tatters. There will still be a Cadillac internet for high-paying customers, probably managed from secure servers aboard orbiting satellites; and there may be some sort of monopoly managed, AT&T-style basic universal internet for people in relatively stable and prosperous areas (Usenet maybe?); but the web as we know it today was simply a one-off explosion of capital created by the Boomer wealth effect, combined with a laissez-faire attitude towards social structures on the part of a spoiled Western proletariat. The whole thing is a body-constituent of the times we live in, an artifact of just those very conditions which will not be maintained in the future.
I've learned a lot of things on the internet, but I never gave it my heart. I've written who knows how many thousands of blog posts, articles, essays, and comments over the years, but I've never been involved in social media. I think people will gradually wake up to the unsupportable nature of the thing. By about 2020 or so, I expect most of the craze will have gone away, never to return. There are too many things in the real world to care about, to worry about, and to do. Whether we like it or not, reality is the next big thing.
I believe that at this point the Internet is IMPOSSIBLE to stop.
If they take down the trunk lines backbones and such, you can keep the Internet alive via ad-hoc wi-fi networking that wouldre-configure itself on the fly, and even allow for things like emai, chat, websites, all of that to continue. These networking engineering problems were solved YEARS ago and integrated as part of FIDO-Net. In essence,the Internet becomes FIDO-Net over Wi-FI.
Maybe some other old-timers want to chip in here and make what I am saying clearer?
Agree with Peak. "the Internet" is just disseminated knowledge about a number of protocols. This knowledge-genie is out of the bottle.
Have a peek at mainland China and watch how people spread the forbidden videos of HK's protest.
Censorship only speeds up the organic networking. From samizdat-copies in Russia to casette-tapes in 1979 Iran.
Internet is just "a net". Nothing special about it really. It can be replicated with consumer grade equipment, at least across land masses. Trans-Oceanic communicaiton would still be difficult, but that's about it. All the gear is available. Routers, antennas, servers.
All we (engineers) need is a little kick to generate enough interest in the alternatives. I pesonally like mesh networks. I've set'em up using Xbee chips. Plug a special adaptor into a USB and you can hook up to another computer within a 25km radius and then relay the signal onward, running all starndard internet protocols with a bit of custom firmare.
There are tonns of alternatives. Many ways to build and run nets independent of commercial infrastructure. Microwave antennas, line of sight optical transceivers that don't even have to be FCC licensed (a flashing light with a camera pointed at another flashing light with a camera). If there was a demand for that sort of thing, I'd have a business.
I've been setting up all sorts of networks since the early 90's. I have friends that started off the same way and became municipal internet providers. If we get together, we can probably rewire the country from scratch. There is plenty of us - enthusiasts around. Pull the plug on the mainstream net and we'll get another one running in a jiffy, though I'm pretty sure we'll be branded as terrorists for doing it.
Right, but how do you solve the problem of root servers in your above senario? If there is no root server then no one talks to each other.
I think you would still need to use a store and forward type system, servers are going to be in peoples homes and small businesses and might not be able to be running all of the time, remember the "Internet" will be illegal at this point so them big microwave antennas on the roof are a no-go.
I am not criticing, just trying to talk this out in case we need to set something like this up in the near future.
Will be a cat and mouse game, no doubt. I like line of sight optical networks because they do not produce a traceable signal. Microwave directional antannas are harder to hide and they do give off emissions.
Root server problem is... well... it's a problem. Mesh networks aren't a substitute for those used to convenience of centralized internet that we're enjoying today. There will be no way to uniformly connect everything. There'll be gaps. I remember the old BBS days when people dialed into their local area code repositories, but since it was expensive to call long distance, a physical courier sometimes carried data into neighbouring jurisdictions. There was no realtime coordination between physical hubs. Nowdays there are easier ways of crossing boundaries.
The new net, if it emerges, will be a broken up collection of subnets. The meshes will report to root hubs and those hubs will talk to eachother. New address structure will be needed. I don't have all the answers. My specialty has more to do with data transmission than with network protocols and communicaiton.
Actually this part here:
Root server problem is... well... it's a problem. ... There was no realtime coordination between physical hubs. Nowdays there are easier ways of crossing boundaries.
This is what FIDO-Net solves. Thesoftware only needs to be adapted to work withthe equpiment (hardware layer stuff) and the high-level store and forward maintenance is done in the FIDO-Net OS.
You should check it out, like I said it's old-timer stuff that just might come in handy again.
Will check it out. Thanks.
We may have to do without DNS. But no doubt necessity with be a fertile mother of invention. I think trust will be the biggest problem.
Just for clarification here, my point was not about what theoretically could be done with off-the-shelf hardware. In the technical sense, anything could be done; that's why it's called technics (from the Greek meaning the arts, or whatever is concerned with making). The mere theoretical possibility of producing something has never been a limiting factor in what was actually done. I'm talking about two much more concrete forces here: money and will.
The world at present cannot even afford to maintain its existing infrastructure let alone rebuild it all over again. But besides that, the culture will change under the pressure of necessity. We simply cannot have a society were everybody stays glued to their smartphones for ten hours a day, disengaged, unproductive, and ignorant. We cannot long survive with an ethos of acquiring instant fame by posting kitten pictures to Facebook. This is all quite stupid. Eventually something will have to give and when it starts giving way, the internet as we know it is finished. That doesn't mean that there won't still be computer technology around; I've already admitted that there will be. What I'm saying is that in the future, the meaning, purpose, and social value of such technology will have been radically transformed into something completely ordinary and of no very major sensation, just like the telephone system used to be in the days of Ma' Bell.
Government has molested all the hardware and software.
This:
We simply cannot have a society were everybody stays glued to their smartphones for ten hours a day, disengaged, unproductive, and ignorant.
In the early "pre - internet" days, yes there was porn and general bullshitting on the networks but the signal to noise ratio (at least concerning all things technical and scientific) way very high, unlike today. When Internet-like system become rare and important again, the signal-to-noise ratio will get better
The global scope of the current internet is what makes it special. It allows us to transcend the culture of our immediate surroundings and take from or contribute to global initiatives with people from all around the world. I don't think there would be much use for small networks other than for businesses and groups of people who need to share and archive information efficiently. The cost of maintaining such a network would not be worthwhile unless you had at least a hundred or so users on it. Also, keep in mind that much of the expertise exists on the internet. If it were suddenly lost, there would be a major setback. People would have to start digging through their 1980-90s paper technical manuals and start reinventing the wheel all over again.
In the future, technology will probably continue to be watered down to devices which allow the user less and less control.
If the government wants to control the internet and end its wild west days, they'll eventually make it so that you have to have a permit to host a server. They'll work with ISPs and those who own the gateways to stop all peer-to-peer and any connection from one IP to another unless it's to a registered and authorized server. In this way, the masses will be able to seemlessly use Facebook, Google, etc, but sites like ZeroHedge and nearly every hobby site on the web will cease to exist. The masses won't care as long as their major social platforms still exist. The loss of everything else will be harolded as an advancement in security. Maybe this will be the very advancement that ends "conspiracy theorists", as without a free internet there would be no medium left for individuals to freely express themselves.
After that, the government just needs to tighten the restrictions on social media (ie. filtering it for terrorism, etc) and they've got perfect control. They can already read everyone's messages, so there should be no illusions of "privacy" anymore.
The internet is extremely fragile. The only issue is that, so far, too many people like the internet and would complain if it were shut off. The government is probably waiting for more and more people to turn into iPhone zombie conformist slaves. Once we're in enough of a minority we'll be so outnumbered that we have no recourse.
The real problem is that of security vs. freedom. More and more of our society values security over freedom and those of us who value freedom are shrinking rapidly. The government is all-too-happy to provide security for the masses who want it and they'll tell anyone that security is the most important thing. Most people are too stupid to realize the value of freedom. They've learned to associate freedom with terrorism, holocaust denial, and reckless car accidents in which innocent children get killed.
This reminds me that I ought to collect as much information as I can now, as some day the tap of the internet may be shut off and all that's left will be whatever we've stored locally on harddrives and managed to keep hidden from police raids.
So basically, if you happen to figure out the tricks to telepathy DO NOT TELL THE GOVERNMENT; you will immediately be thrown into the incinerators.
Personally I think anyone NOT on that list is a potential terrorist.
This will do to spreading of radical ideology what the shutdown of Napster did to digital music.
"They Live" was a documentary.
YOU are Rowdy Roddy Piper.
Hah. That Michael Snyder. What a card. He's an extremist, too, under clauses 1, 3, 22, 23, 66, and probably clauses 6, 26, 32, 45, and 69; which makes him guilty of clauses 34 and 41.
And any one of us that reads his article is an extremist! Yikes. I'd put this list up on the bulletin board at work but I might get fired.
so pretty much everyone
Of course. Let the establishment take its pick.
I just looked over link number 1 and that's hilarious bacuse it seems Washington is extremist itself!
Extremists Traits
Character assassination: comparing Putin to Hitler
Name calling and labeling: "Putler"
Irresponsive sweeping generalizations: Russia is USSR
Inadequate proof behind assertions: Saddam had WMD
Tendency to view opponents and critics as essentially evil: Iran, the axis of evil
Dualism worldview: US good, Putin bad
Use of slogans, buzzwords, and thought-stopping clichés: "War on Terror", "Responsibility to Protect", "We have no strategy on ISIS yet"
Assumption of moral superiority over others: because US bombs were morally superior to Gaddafi's
Doomsday thinking: without TBTF banks bailout world economy will collapse!
Belief that it’s okay to do bad things in the service of a “good” cause: "we TORTURED some folks! in a good cause!"
Emphasis on emotional responses, less so on reasoning and logical analysis: "they HATE US for our FREEDOM!"
Advocacy of double standards: fight Al-Qaida here, support it there...
I am sure it's not lost on most the hysterical regulars on here, but for the casual reader and other fellow travelers, the UK is the bellwether for all things national (in)security here in the US of A.
If they want it done in the UK, then look for the same roll-out in America within 3-5 years. Sure, surveillance is already being done by the State inside the State, but the wet-dream of every national socialist (read Democratic Party) is to openly put people on "Lists."
Black verse Red. Right verse Wrong. Terrorist verses Patriot.
Look to the British monarchy and it satellites in Australia and Canada to telegraph the intentions of a brave new corporate world order.
By example the consolidation of what 13? US agencies into Homeland Security is all patterned off MI5 and the domestic intelligence services maintained by the order of a Queen.
Sure Magna Carta This and Parliament That. Window dressing to real power.
You can talk back to your Big Brother, but nobody talks back to Big Daddy.
The Clerisy Outer Party is only one paycheck away from homelessness.
They will perfect identifying, ordering and then dispatching people like chickens in a coop because "the drone" told them to.
Just wait until all these "teenage political refugees" brought in by the Democratic Party and Team Obama from Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean start reaching the age to join the Army in exchange for citizenship.
I used to laugh at all the "black helicopter" nutz talking about the UN patrolling the US.
Now you really can envision Guatemalan "dreamers" policing Anytown USA via USNORTHCOM in their MRAPs.
Remember. You voted for all of this.
re. "No social media list"
And this is news how? My posts to Facebook are put on some sort of a restricted distribution list, generally within 6 hours of me creating a new account - regardless of any proxy servers or even logging in from a computer I've never used before.
Controlling who you can speak to - and who you can hear from - appears to be the basic purpose of Fæcesbook.
I know of one enterprising fellow here in Canada who went out and registered a corporate account in the name of CSIS - our answer to the NSA. Like any corporate client of Facebook, he could have every single mention on FB of his 'company' by anyone in the world routed to his account. He then had them all posted and marked Public on his page.
Think about it folks. Every time you type the letters eff-bee-aye into a Facebook comment, gmail message, or here, your words appear in seconds on probably dozens of government computer terminals across the country.
Here's hoping...
O/T Snyder is sometimes dangerously close to proving himself a Zionized "Christian" Evangelical. To wit:
“Noah” Promotes The Luciferian Gnostic Belief That The Creator Of This World Is EvilThere is nothing "Luciferian" about the Gnostic belief, my belief, that the Bible was, in a magickal sense, written not by what men call "God" but an imposter -the demiurge. Essentially meaning Yahweh is not "the one God" - which comports with what the Bible itself says - indeed one of the commandments, pilfered from Egypt, commands that other gods not be worshipped!
The Yahweh as "the one God" thing came centuries after the earliest book of the Old Covenant were written.
Anyway - take or leave gnosticism or chaos magick or any other way of thinking about Creation - but one thing to bear in mind is that "Lucifer" - light-bringer, is not "evil" but stands against Yahweh, who basically is.
I mean - have you read the fucking old testament, Snyder? If you think an omnipotent, omnipresent Be-ing both exists and wrote that - you're a fucking idiot.
Take a spin through Leviticus or Joshua and tell me the "God" of the New Covenant - "The Christ" - has a thing to do with Yahweh.
Open your eyes. None of it is real, but as stories go, gnosticism makes far more sense than anything the Ziopaths believe.
We all know how credit scores have become institutionalized and how they can affect our ability to function efficiently in everyday life. They affect our ability to get loans; qualify for a lease; buy goods and services; even our ability to get some kinds of jobs. It often seems unfair that this single digital summary of ourselves carries so much weight, but, at least we are allowed to see what it is.
Now imagine how scores, profiles, and labels developed by Facebook, Google, Twitter, and the NSA get assigned to your personality, behaviors, preferences, and beliefs. Imagine how these ratings might similarly become institutionalized and standardized. Imagine these measures they develop for you defining you and being used to control your life. Imagine you becoming “it” and “it” becoming all that Facebook, their corporate and government clients, or anyone important believes is important about you. That is their goal, to steer everyone into their supposedly benevolent, altruistic, free and easy social networking system. Meanwhile, they operate behind the curtain with unregulated authority to shape the official identity and control the behavior of those who use it (and of course sell them out to any buyer who will pay). Haven’t you noticed how many mainstream media blogs and comment sections now require you to post through Facebook or Twitter? In other words, if you want your voice heard anywhere, it must be monitored, recorded, and compliant with their standards and rules. It is more about social engineering and gaining social power and control than social networking. And in this case you can only imagine “it”, because, you are never allowed to see “it”, or challenge “its” validity, or the methods they use to define “it” inside the Central Planning Cloud.
You better hope they get “it” right.
“So what does all of that exactly mean?”
It means that anyone who criticizes rule by cutthroats and bandits is a “terrorist”.
Of course, the word has two definitions, depending on your perspective. To Americans, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Tom Paine were freedom fighters; to English royalty, nobility and privilege holders, they were mentally deranged, or “terrorists”.
In other words, to criminal and useful-idiot classes, anyone who asks too many questions, displays a sense of justice or intelligence is a “terrorist”.
And, neither Englishman nor American will do anything about it… nothing sensible, nothing effective.
Oh, sure, a few Americans (and Englishmen) will sit on their haunches and howl; and they might as well bray at the wind for all they accomplish.
You see, Americans have the power to stop it, and make accountable all who perpetrated this, or any other, evil; and they (Americans) refuse to use that power. There are three main reasons for this failure: one is that they have no knowledge of such power; the second, they’ve been herded into a kind of impotent stupor by medication and indoctrination; the third, that they aid, benefit or were complicit in such evil (full article).
In addition, there is hardly an American who knows ideals won by the Revolution.
For example, Founders repeatedly declared the co-called right of consent: that no man was obligated to obey any law or pay any tax unless he gave his personal consent to such. Did they really mean that? Of course they did. They had been living by those rules from the first English settlement to the Revolution. That is, according to the origin of English/American law, “laws” and “taxes” originated in contracts between various assemblies and those who petitioned for redress of grievances. Terms of such contracts were sometimes referred to as “laws” and money payments as “taxes”. And, no one but petitioners were obligated to obey or pay such “laws” or “taxes”; that is, all non-petitioners were exempt from such. Further, when redress was completed, such “laws” and ‘taxes” were extinguished.
When you realize the significance of this right of consent, you will discovery that there is hardly a constitutional tax on the books.
Today we no longer live according to American law: for, petitioners make themselves exempt from laws and taxes necessitated by their redress while all non-petitioners are saddled with such burdens. For example, when munitions makers, big banks, and Main Stream Media wish for another war, they petition Congress, Congress grants authority for the war, petitioners receive the booty of war and non-petitioners are stiffed with the expenses (thru payment of taxes and the blood and ruined lives of their male children). This inversion of American law is generally known as Persian law, law of the conqueror, law of the high seas, mouth law, martial law, ecclesiastical law… it goes by many names.
And it will continue unopposed until a few Americans (or Englishmen) (1%-2%) learn, and use, lessons of English and American rebels.
I think we are all on the list for thinking and just holding an opinion. It matters not who or how you get on the list, the only way forward is to get everyone on the list.
i must be a terrorist as I askew social media altogether
Not me, I eschew social media.
My world view, on the other hand, is a bit askew.
If you are not on a government watchlist by now, you should be ashamed of yourself, I suppose.
Not only does the empty suit PM David Cameron plan to create "no social media" lists, but in his Tory Party speech today announced the intention to withdraw from the European Convention on Human Rights (used by Abu Hamza, aka "Mr Hook" to fight deportation) after the next general election and to replace it with a UK drafted Bill of Rights. This being drafted by government lawyers of course, so it'll be as useful as toilet paper.
You can bet there are plenty of people who will welcome both of these totalitarian policies.
I'd celebrate loudly were they to withdraw from the accursed European Convention on Human Rights. This has morphed into a monster that has lost all touch with reality. A mass murderer from Afghanistan or some such can't be deported because of his 'right to a family life'. That Court is destroying Europe faster than EU institution. And that's saying something.
Yeahbut ..... The pantomime that went on about deporting Abu Hamza was only ever a nightmare for successive Home Secretaries. I can live with that, even chuckle when Theresa May got angry about it. That is what's behind pulling out. Putting it another way, they don't like the constraints imposed on them by the ECHR and they go far beyond Abu Hamza's case.
It will leave British people seriously exposed to draconian whims of govt taken against them for all manner of things. Without some solid protection measures in place, the political elites will abuse their powers as sure as eggs are eggs. That's why Cameron has offered a Bill of Rights to avoid scaring the horses, but it won't be worth the paper it's printed on.
(The ECHR has nothing to do with the EU...they're completely separate orgs)
