Texas Governor Rick Perry To Explain How (Despite 2nd Case) Ebola Is "Contained" - Live Feed

Tyler Durden's picture

With rumors spreading (and seemingly confirmed) of a 2nd Ebola case in Dallas; Texas Governor Rick Perry is set to explain to the American public that it's all under control (despite the hospital discharging the Ebola victim 2 days ago) and the virus is contained (despite its potential spread to 12-18 more people)... Reuters further reports that the man being treated for Ebola in Texas traveled through Brussels en route to US according to the Liberian ministry of information. Rest assured Americans, Dance Moms will be on soon...

As KRJH reports,

A second person in Texas is being monitored for Ebola after coming into close contact with the first person in the U.S. diagnosed, according to health officials.

Gov. Rick Perry has scheduled a news conference at a Dallas hospital where a man with the first case of Ebola diagnosed in the U.S. remains in isolation.

Perry plans to speak at noon CDT Wednesday at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital. He'll be joined by Dr. David Lakey, who's commissioner of the Texas Department of State Health Services.

Governor Perry is due to speak at 1300ET (via NBC Dallas)

Is this the part where the infected start walking really stiffly and ripping into people?

Or is that after planes start crashing into the streets and things start blowing up for no reason?

See comments below about how this is precisely what competent epidemiologists  feared: Instead of 1 vector who is quarantined (as bad as that would be, not knowing the hundreds/thousands of people they had proximal contact with at airports, in planes, buses, the city in general), we now have 12 Suspected Ebola Vectors in the U.S. (so just multiply that by 10 if you want to be conservative, and anywhere from 45 to 70 if you want to be closer to reality) out there in the Dallas, London (Heathrow airport was a layover for Dallas bound plane), Brussels. etc. "wild."

Wait until Flu season hits. No one will be able to tell if people have the flu or initial symptoms of ebola. Emergency rooms will be packed and lots of health care "workers" will get it, or they will tell anyone with a fever to stay away from a hospital and call a special telephone number and wait for a truck to come by, pick them up and dispose of.... I mean, "treat" them.

Next? thing we will hear is that a second 'case' of Ebola is confirmed in the US as a result of the search of people who came in contact with this person from Liberia.

.

Then that opens the door to a wider search as officials begin to search whoever came in contact with this second individual...and then they search those people to0 and so on and so on.

.

Next thing you know - we are all hunted down and searched.

I don't think Perry's going to get the kind of exposure from this that he is looking for.

Saw him give a speech live a few years ago while preparing for his last White House run.  For the first 5- 7 minutes it was touch and go, as he lost his train of thought/zoned out for 10-15 seconds at a time, multiple times.  Then suddenly, the engine finally warmed up (or the spring was fully wound), and off he went into the land of [relative] eloquence.  Good thing that many Texans, particularly outside of the major cities, are a pretty self-reliant bunch, given who is at the helm at the local, state and federal level.

More American Politician theatre!

We got this coming like a delusional bully in the school yard, most Americans continue to suspend belief on all things related to common sence, rational thinking, and human nature!  Of course the ebola victims are coming to America, we fucking announced two months ago we had a god damn vaccine, then showed it off to the world with the saving of "our" two doctors!!

I guess the warped, delusional. nieve, fucked up thinking behind this was........dont let Americans panic, dont let them stop shopping or going to mass gatherings of spending orgies like sporting events and concerts? But like everything human on this planet since the beginning of time, all actions have a reaction, and now if your rich or connected in the hot zones and you feel like you might have it, WTF do you do, go to China or your local hospital, fuck no, you get on a plan and get to America, "where they have a vaccine"!!!!!!!

WHO has a conservative estimate of 1.7 million cases by year end.

With replication giving rise to opportunistic mutations at an exponential rate st this point, and with major urban areas in developing and developed nations affected, along with major transportation modes/hubs, this is very bad.

2nd case IN DALLAS has heavy significance, as does the fact that Patient Zero may likely not even be the originally diagnosed Ebola Dallas Patient (and may be still out there, non-quarantined, given a big lag in symptoms from time of infection of 5 1/2 to 21 days, depending on individual), and that the Original Dallas Patient did a bunch of plane hopping and airport terminal lingering on his way from Liberia to Dallas -

Did US Ebola victim change flights at Heathrow?

Patient flew from Liberia to Brussels but route to Dallas could have taken him through London
  • ***It is feared that as many as 12 Americans may have become infected through contact with the patient***
  • A second male patient, who came in close contact with several children, is being watched today as his condition was upgraded to serious
  • First male patient who traveled to Dallas, Texas from Liberia is quarantined at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital
  • He is first person diagnosed with Ebola in U.S. as CDC 'disease detectives' arrived in Texas today to track down anyone he came in contact with
  • Patient arrived in U.S. on September 20 - after flying from Liberia via Brussels in Belgium - but did not develop symptoms until September 24
  • He attended Texas Health Presbyterian on September 26 - but was dismissed with antibiotics
  • He was rushed to hospital vomiting two days later by EMTs

As stated by true experts overtly and in more close circles (I'm speaking about actual, hardcore epidemiologists), once this strain gets out of "the bush" and into densely populated cities, aircraft, airports, etc., exponential is the key world (mutations and replication).

And what was a "3 foot diameter" transmission danger zone via "exchange of bodily fluids (even saliva, mucous, etc.)" is scary enough given the changing environment (i.e. densely populated cities) where Ebola is now replicating with mutations (radically increasing its odds of mutating into an even more easily transmissible form of virus - remember, this is virus that infected people who merely ride in same vehicle or live in same thatched hut as infected person, let alone 2 American Doctors wearing N100 respirators and practicing AMA Standard of Care in dealing with Ebola).

Very informative posts! Our great fear should be mutation. A new population infected offers new genetic materials to mingle. Raising fears of mutations towards easier transmission. An easier transmission would mean all hell breaks loose upon us.

I feel that ebola is being taken way to lightly. It is not present ebola that I fear, it is a new mutation allowing sneeze droplets to carry enough virus load to infect. We are fucked if that happens.

And the real question is does this EBV have the ability to be carried by naturally immune peeps.

Every time I look at the math on this, something looks hinky. Its been so long since I did any real math

in University I can't see what it is.

Any number theory  mathematicians on this board care to look at it ?

The "you cannot catch this without them showing symptoms" and "it's spread only from contact of bodily fluids" meme being repeated over and over, no matter what the news source..

Were patients 1 & 2 gay lovers?

Does anyone else get the impression they are shitting themselves at this point?

Whats the story going to be when 6 more people come foward?

Fun times....

Typhoid Mary was a carrier, not a sufferer, from her disease.

No symptoms, but spread typhoid far and wide.Think about that.

This ebv is prolly mutating fast with this number of hosts.

They don't have a clue, but lying is default in this situation.

Winston, You may have hit upon a huge threat. Can a patient who is immune to developing full blown ebola, still able to transmit the virus to those with no natural immunity. Like Typhoid Mary, that person could spread disease for weeks before it burns out in his immune system.

It's not now thought this virus has aysymptomatic carriers. However, I have seen references that say the virus can rmain in recovering people for as long as 2 months after symptoms fade. It is not thought, though, that these people pose a risk of transmission because only symptomtic indivduals can pass the virus via body fluids. I don't know, seems to me that fluids is fluids, and healthy people have fluids, too, but that is what I read somewhere.

After he was rushed to the hospital, how many other patients did that same ambulance and crew transport and work on? The ebola patient went to the emergency room on his own 2 days before he was admitted and was given a perscription and sent home. How many staff members came in contact? Who sat in the same chair in the waiting room? What about the office people who would have had him fill out paperwork? How about the one who filled the perscription? Or took his money? Yet these assholes stand before the cameras and BS about it being contained. Contained My Ass!

Rick Perry. Jesus Christ ..... that guy makes Dan Quayle look sharp.

We'll know in just a few days whether or not this is going to go "12 Monkeys" or not, I guess.

The very idea that they didn't IMMEDIATELY shut down all incoming flights from infected areas ( hopped flights as well ), or at least order the quarantine of such people, is criminal.

I mean, wtf man?

We did it in Ellis Island for years and nobody had a fucking cow.

You wanna go to an affected area Mr. US citizen? No problem. Sign this waiver that upon your desire to return, you have to submit to mandatory quarantine until such time as you are deemed non-hazardous to the population at large.

That doesn't seem out of the realm of appropriate and I believe still constitutionally palatable.

Of course that's just a piece of paper anyway.

That's why I'm not buying this as an accident. The means by which such a thing could have been avoided are incredibly simple to have followed.

There's definately more going on here.

Like how we went from "No doubt" Frieden to the team of "well maybes..." led by Perry in less than 24 hours.  When an epdiemiologist uses absolutes, I am afraid.  I just don't see how they could be so sure with so many variables.  Only time without new cases will make us sure, there really is no other way.

Now we have all kinds of contacts---but no exposures.  Just don't say exposure, ok?

Hey Texas, just fake an ebola epidemic and you have a pretext to close your borders.  You will gain independence without the federalists in Washington losing face.
