American Ebola News Wrap: Up To 100 Potential Cases In Texas, 1 In Hawaii
UPDATE: TEXAS HEALTH OFFICIALS INCREASE NUMBER OF POSSIBLE CONTACTS OF EBOLA VICTIM TO 100
Despite promises by all asunder that any Ebola epidemic in America will be "contained" the dreadful news this morning appears to confirm this is not the case. From one patient, Eric Duncan, just 2 days ago, to 4 schools and 18 people yesterday (according to Texas Governor Rick Perry) to today where NBC News has confirmed with the Dallas county health and human services that 80 people came into contact with the Dallas Ebola patient or his family (including 12-18 direct). The ambulance workers are also under close watch after Duncan vomited on the ground outside an apartment complex as he was bundled into an ambulance. In addition, CBS is reporting one possible Ebola patient in isolation in Hawaii. Contained? Perhaps it is time to rethink the ethics of disease control once again.
After being sent home by a Dallas hospital,
The Dallas patient had initially sought treatment at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital late last Thursday and was sent home with antibiotics rather than being observed further, even though he told a nurse he had recently returned from West Africa. By Sunday, he needed an ambulance to return to the same hospital, where he was admitted.
A nurse asked about the travel as part of a triage checklist and was told about it. “Regretfully, that information was not fully communicated throughout the full teams. As a result, the full import of that information wasn’t factored into the full decision making,” Texas hospital official Mark Lester said.
Two days after he was sent home from a Dallas hospital, the man who is the first person to be diagnosed with Ebola in the United States was seen vomiting on the ground outside an apartment complex as he was bundled into an ambulance.
"His whole family was screaming. He got outside and he was throwing up all over the place," resident Mesud Osmanovic, 21, said on Wednesday, describing the chaotic scene before the man was admitted to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital on Sunday where he is in serious condition.
Duncan's family took action...
That was the day "I called CDC to get some actions taken, because I was concerned for his life and he wasn't getting the appropriate care," Duncan's nephew, Josephus Weeks, told NBC News on Wednesday night. "I feared other people might also get infected if he wasn't taken care of, and so I called them to ask them why is it a patient that might be suspected of this disease was not getting appropriate care?"
Weeks added that he hoped "nobody else got infected because of a mistake that was made."
NBC has confirmed with the Dallas county health and human services that 80 people came into contact with the Dallas Ebola patient or his family.
Director Zachary Thompson said these 80 people were not in close contact, but they did have some kind of contact with or exposure to the patient.
Separately, Texas health officials have ordered four family members who had contact with the Dallas Ebola patient to stay home and not have visitors to prevent the potential spread of disease.
The order, hand delivered to Thomas Eric Duncan's relatives Wednesday night by Texas Department of Health Services officials, legally requires the family to comply until at least Oct. 19, when the incubation period has passed and the family is no longer at risk of having the disease.
And then there is this....
Doctors are keeping one possible Ebola patient in isolation in Hawaii, but symptoms could reflect many illnesses.

As we noted previously, it is perhaps time to discuss the ethics of disease control a little more broadly before the totalitarian weight of government comes to bear.

hey shovel sure he did what was best for him, you kinda thick or what? that he was allowed to travel here is /was the issue.
Now they are reporting problems getting Duncan's contacts to comply with quarantine. It's going as expected; these people are primitives.
Pardon me for assuming, apparently correctly, that the Govt. doesn't really give a shit enough about the US population to piss off the airline campaign donors.
It's also apparent the question was already asked and answered at the top levels of govt.
So you're saying there is some argument whether the govt. made the proper moral choice.
Ha ha. You funny guy.
And Obola sent 1500 troops (guinea pigs) to Africa. Our .gov is truly mailciously incompetent. This will spread and the economy will shut down.
We should have a guess on how many Americans are infected each month at the current rate.
guess? I am sure someone here can slap a chart up. I bet a 12 pack of dented warm PBR says the data looks either like a death cross or a hockey stick.
1,000 confirmed case via Sunday.
Day 1: 1
Day 2: 12
Day 3: 80
Day 4: 480
Day 5: 1,000
Day 6: 6,000
Day 7: 36,000
Day 8: 200,000
Day 9: 1,000,000
Except that just as in Liberia, but faster via social media, the economy, schools, malls, will shut down. If no one trusts the .Gov, then anything the .Gov says will be widely mocked, and people cannot be forced to go to work, school, outside. By the time it reaches 200k cases, and it will then look like a movie screenplay in the worst possible way, everything stops.
People will be posting Vines videos to everyone's smartphone, of people being scary sick, and that will be all folks.
Sounds like fun. Sign me up /sarc
How to deal with useless eaters you've been exploiting for their natural resources for centuries.
Don't have the medical evidence to prove conclusively this is the equivalent of a serum, but hey?... We never knew that our government had patent(s) for it either until just a few years ago?!!!
"Hi, I just came from West Africa and I don't feel so good."
"Okay, take these aspirin and go home and kiss your kids and fuck your wife.
Don't forget to talk to as many people as you can while coughing and sneezing and get the fuck out of my hospital."
These are the peoples hands you put your life in when you go to the hospital.
That's some scary shit right there.
ordinary day of usa, nothing new
Just yesterday I had a nurse saying how another nurse on duty wanted to let a guy that just had a stroke go because she thought the scans looked fine. Good thing that didn't happen otherwise he would have never lived.
No health insurance.
What did the CDC say, it's only caught by contact with body fluids of someone infected? Well, doesn't a sneeze or a cough disperse virus into the air, especially in closed confines like a plane, train or bus? This morning on my train two people were hacking up a lung all the way downtown!
Starting to remind me of:
"Nothing to worry about. Please return to your desks and continue working."
As the WTC buildings burn and eventually fall.
The new "Dominoes Pizza" slogan...
~ Rated #1 food delivery service for Ebola quarantine camps by the CDC~
I mean seriously...Who the fuck has a 21 day supply of food on their shelves to ride out this quarantine period?
Most people are living day to day and hand to mouth thanks to ZIRP, and the endless money printing driving food costs into the stratosphere.
But we are in deflation so food should be free soon. Or so says the financial pundits.
Hey man, just trust Governemt.
Hahahaha
Good lookin' out jerks!
Lettin' people fly into here...
Hopefully some ballgropers hooked up with this...
Assssssholes.
Anyone with a 4 year biology degree or more knows this thing has been horribly and grossly mismanaged and incredibly misleading to the general public. Flights should have immediately been cancelled to that area of Africa and people in the US are being used a lab rats as a result of poor (possibly intentional) decision making while telling us to fricking wash our hands. This is the playout of a decision by a group of people with severe moral disease. There is now way a scientific understanding of what was happening could not or was not presented to those in charge. It is incomprehensable that those in charge could be that stupid. It just does not happen.
My degree is not in Biology and I can see this is being mismanaged.
Way to go, nimrods.
1>12>80.
1>12>80>100>?
Living in Fort Worth, just to the west of Dallas, we really really are pissed.
Living in Fort Worth, just to the west of Dallas, we really really are pissed.
If you post it a third time, I'll be really really pissed.
The media lies about goddamn everything, so we don't know the real story. However, if this Ebola scare really is true, the fact that DHS has been stocking up on ammo, militarizing and desensitizng the police to treat us like Zombie Holocaust victims certainly aligns.
Explains the FEMA coffins and the story that just camme out about Goldenstate Fire (who supplies emergency gear to .gov) claimed Disaster Response Teams were told they'd be activated in October.
Silver lining, hopefully this will trigger more home schooling.
So, what happens when the virus mutates to a 30, 40, 50, 60, etc. incubation period, if it has not already gone beyond 21 days?
Viruses have been around for billions of years and you expect a government that can't prevail over 3rd world insurgents or design a website to mount a creditable defense? Bwahahahaha...Humanity's hope probably relies on some passoniate scientific researcher who is tirelessly working around the clock to find a solution, not on some government wanks who are surfing porn and waiting for cocktail hour after work...If you want something done, don't give it the government or as Lucille Ball [a brillant businesswoman] said: "If you want something done, ask a busy person to do it. The more things you do, the more you can do."...
Good luck Hawaii:

But it’s not airborne so what’s the problem they keep saying it’s not airborne in you can only get it from bodily fluids I doubt anybody came in connect with his bodily fluids so once again if it’s not airborne what’s the problems there no way other people could catch it if it’s not airborne but wait it is airborne in there not telling us
When a people can no longer be taxed, conscripted or exploited in a cost-effective manner, they have to be culled and killed in order to bring some sanity back to the bottom line.
Simple herd economics.
Well, all the corrupt, inefficient world banks and governments can let the global financial mess unravel now and blame it on a bug.
At a minimum, when the # of cases increased and spread across different countries, there should have been severe travel restrictions on anyone entering US. Someone on a news program referred to difficulty of connecting flights? That is pathetic.
Congress needs to call an emergency session, and take matters such as the airport/African flight fiasco out of Obama's hands.
yeah because congress is so effective...
Political Correctness will keep the Gov't from doing anything. Dirty Brown people from 3rd world countries trump your expecatations of the the Gov't doing the right thing.
You racists just want to curb immigration from Africa.
No just all immigration
The USA is not a "nation of immigrants". It is a nation of invading conquerors. The Native Americans didn't process Columbus, the Pilgrims, or anybody else through their Customs and invite them to immigrate. Columbus and the Pilgrims came with guns, cannon, and European diseases, and wiped out the Native Americans and took their land.
And that "immigration" was back when there were only 1 or 2 million people in the USA. Now that there are 300 million people, perhaps the USA needs "Overpopulation Reform", not "Immigraton Reform".
I think Jefferson (who, of course, lived in France for a while, and visited Italy (secretly) and England (after the War) said something like, "when we are all crowded into cities like the people in Europe, we will have as few rights as the people in Europe".
Ha. :-) 500 years after Columbus, I bet everyone in the USA has some "pass for white" in their genes. So we all black. And some Native American. So all of us are redskins. Y Latinos, sin Latinos son solo redskins que hablan Espanol. (Probably butchered that.) So, wot eez thees racism, a religion or church or somessing? :-)
Not me.
At least since 1630. What happened before that is a mystery. My love of Italian food suggests there might have been a Roman or two behind the wood pile when they were in the neighborhood.
Although there was that isolated incident of Neanderthal humping that nobody in the family ever brings up.
Ha! :-) Some of us have Neanderthal foreheads. Is that a sign? And - I never thought of this before - but might I ever have been denied a job or promotion because of Neanderthal physical attributes? Why don't I ever see "Neanderthal" on the list with asian, female, native american, black, latino, handicapped, et al? I'm MAD AS HELL, and I'm NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANY LONGER! :-)
'The Galveston National Laboratory lost one of five vials containing a deadly Venezuelan virus, according to the University of Texas Medical Branch, which owns the $174 million facility designed with the strictest security measures to hold the deadliest viruses in the country. There is no cure.' (abc news 2013)
'strictest security measures' obviously has a different meaning in Texas.
I don't know.
There are only a small finite number of people from the infected areas that have the means to board a plane to Europe enroute to the USA (and have proper credentials for that matter). I would have to think that our European friends have probably woken up and will start disallowing flights.
Western medicine has 2 ace in the holes IMO...1) the ability to properly isolate an infectous patient, and 2) the ability (in a hospital setting) to manage internal hemorrhaging (the main killer of the ebola virus) This is NOT occurring at a grand scale in hiospitals and clinics in western Africa.
The sad thing is...this is at a "wait and see" stage right now...at least IMO.
Oh yes, the ability to isolate and treat.... Who's to say how many of the staff will come to work?
I'll be confident this wasn't planned when I start seeing the first Jewish names on the Obola death board.
American Ebola must be renamed Obola. The CDC pamphlet should carry the title "Dreams of My Virus".
So, how long before I gotta buy a fucking machete? I'm outside Tyler, Tx. Fuck it i'm going to my bug out cave in Wa. 750 cases of c-rats and a spring nearby. A K98 Mauser with a couple thousand rounds and a CZ52 7.62x25mm sside arm. Not to mention my C96 Broom handle Mauser. With wooden stock/holster. And a metric ass load of ammo.
Cz52 is so perfect. Eight years ago you could buy a box of ten of them for $136 each.
holy shit...he looks just like the guy I made out with in the men's room at the Brussels airport a couple weeks ago. I had an orange for breakfast, but I better pop a vitamin C just to be on the safe side.
dear Ebola virus victims, please get jobs at a major bank or in DC.
Just ship them all to Hawaii. That'll contain it. Have Brad Pitt fly the plane. Angelina can serve bloody marys and cackle and shit.
Statistics tell us that 40% of all Ebola cases are caused by 70% of African Ebola cases, and there's a 52% chance that 80% of the deaths were caused by airborne infection, which is 30% less likely than 70% of the direct-contact infections.
Additionally, 40% of Rick Perry's inbredism is caused by 78% of his inbredism, reflecting the fact that 40% of all accidents are caused by 80% of all accidents.
Therefore, there's nothing to worry about, since 70% of all worries are caused by 36% of all worries....
Unless it hits NY, Boston, D.C., SF, or Chicago....our "elites" who "run" things won't give two shits.
Time for Ebolacare death panels.
Just log into your MyEBOLA account and see where you are on the list.
Hint: Sufficient political contributions may have an effect on your account status.
Here's a thought.... I know the Party Line right now is that we're in no danger because our healthcare system is much better than that in Africa - BUT - I've heard stories over the last few years that between helicopter parents ensuring kids don't touch anything that might conceivably be "dirty" (much less play outside where they might eat dirt or something), the proliferation of sanitizing hand gels, etc. etc. that our immune systems may actually be weaker than they should be because we don't have to fight off many pathogens that in the past we would have been exposed to regularly.
That said, maybe the rates of infection/death in Africa are actually LOWER they they might be in a western society used to doing everyhting short of walking around with rubber gloves on every day, and as such we might be MORE likely to have big problems with this.
What do you think, sirs?
Is that the same guy who was doing the fake signing-for-the-deaf a few months ago when President Obama made that speech somewhere in Africa?
Things have gone from bad to worse. Prepare yourselves http://thebookgallery2014.blogspot.com/2014/08/beyond-ebola-preparation....
Guess where I'm writing you from? The tarmac at DFW airport waiting to shove off for Denver. Lucky me.....
I hope you don't bring it to Denver. :-\
Gee, that's a cool Lime Shirt he's got on. Matches his coral slacks.
I'm just glad he didn't take the tour to visit the White House, Capitol Hill, and the Supreme Court. :-)
Is the Fed on that tour?
By the way, I think both parties are actually in on the "let's open our borders to everyone" Immigration "Reform". Cheaper labor and more customers, therefore higher profits. But there is always a devil in the details, like now how do we get around the silly "Interstate Commerce" clause and give Texas to Mexico, so they can do the Ebola licking.... but, on the other hand, maybe this will stop the flood of immigrants: "Hey, let's go north to Texas where they have lots of jobs and Ebola."
Yeah, just like there are over 300 million 'potential' AIDs vicitms in the U.S. Time to overreact.
One has to wonder how physicians trained in following CDC and WHO practices with Ebola contracted the disease and died.
What matter does it make now that its here, dont you people relize George Clooney is now married!! [sarc]
Given the new official designation of extra-special-close contact and mere casual contact, it looks like the government numnuts are leaving themselves an 'out' in the event of incremental diagnoses. The line will become 'We've got in under control, you are only at risk if you drink an infectede person's bodily fluid.
edit >> double post. sorry
anyone playing DXD and TZA with me today like good capitalists should?
profit from the scare bitchez!
Why out of all the cities in the US does this ebola patient go straight to Dallas???.
Family or known treatment centre?
Family.
Plus the flight stopped in Dulles Intl. airport, near DC., so not quite "straight to Dallas".
Plus the guy had to clear customs in Dulles, along with a gazillion other international arrivals, wandering around with his baggage through the rat maze they put you through.
Logic tells you it probably is in other cities as well. Perhaps the cases are mis-diagnosed.
The healthcare system is not ready for a Ebola pandemic.
TZA! TZA! TZA!
:)
Let me say this: it is unethical to forcibly quarantine possibly infected people.
The way forward is to compensate them monearily for the quarantine.
This is bevause forced quarantine provides benefits to society, but imposes costs on the people who are quarantined. To not compensate them would lead to economic profits. Please understand the term "economic profits" is a key word.
Half baked.
But if the number of direct contacts is now up to 100, what about the contacts those 100 have made. Anyone ever hear the term "expodential?"
If the incubation period is 21 days, the government may just be hoping that this story has run its course in the media before the real effects begin to show up. Think how many Mexicans we will have to allow in just to replace the decimated population and pay our social security benefits.
Anyone ever hear the term "expodential?"
Yes but only from someone with bad head cold.
Details only readily available from the foreign (UK) media:
"Hundreds of passengers were exposed to Mr Duncan after it was revealed that the traveler took at least three flights to get from Liberia to Dallas - because there is no direct flight from Belgium to Texas.
The other flight that Mr Duncan boarded is currently unknown and no details are being released.
United Airlines has said it believes Mr Duncan flew from Brussels to Washington Dulles on Flight 951 before he traveled from Washington Dulles to Dallas Fort-Worth on Flight 822.
Belgium's health ministry said U.S. experts had advised Brussels that the man was not displaying Ebola symptoms and so would not have been in a position to pass on the virus. A spokesman said that Belgium therefore did not need to trace fellow passengers or crew of Brussel Airlines, one of a very few operators still flying to Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone. "

Duncan ?#ebola? timeline:
Day 0: no contacts.
Day 1: 12-18 contacts (no explanation of "close contact", must mean he pissed on everyone)
Day 2: 80 contacts including "some ER folks"
Day 2+: CDC wants to know about the A320 plane and who was aboard it on all seven flights between LAX , DFW, Guarulhos, Brussels... but fo rno reason, since Duncan only had symptoms on Sep 24 and flights were Sep 19-21.
Day 3: the walking dead rise.
The fact that his whole family was screaming about some vomit makes me wonder if he really did have symptoms before traveling.
Did this person come to the US because he'd heard of successful stories of treatment?
I will now be ordering my groceries thru PeaPod. I already have a milkman and Amazon prime. Anything I need pronto will be ordered online pick-up instore. I am avoiding public places as much as possible. This "mystery" virus that is paralyzing kids scares me too. The 10 yr. girl that died was not far from me. I know someone else whose daughter had the virus and needed hospital treatment. We homeschool so at least I can control which kids mine comes in contact with.
oleander,
thank god for drones

Your packages are being handled by Amazon warehouse workers, and delivery drivers.
Globally contained.
just want to thank the o'bama administration, the airline co., tsa, and mr. duncan.
from whats called the most powerful person in the world, the president of usa, down to an individvual fleeing an african country knowing he's sick, very likely with ebola comming to america for a medical miracle, where were americas safety nets we were told were in place?
haven't heard, or read, tsa in any form, how many airline passengers come from western africa, he should've pulled to side and given a 2 min. check-up, or even just take his temp. that takes 2 sec..
we'll read, or hear reports with varing degrees of truth for another 5-6 wks., (election time remember), but it will at least show many millions of govt. denigration, but i'm sure, if one in your family doesn't be come infected with ebola no minds will change.
a person could comment all day long on this reprehesible, can't call it accidental, breakdown in govt..
Why couldn't this dude jump the White House fence?
Belgium and France have huge African communities.
Several flights weekly between West Africa and Brussels or Paris.
NO CASES IN EUROPE (or anywhere else outside West Africa besides the US)
Wake up fuckers!
No cases that we know of.
Give it a couple more weeks.
Get ready for Captain Trips.
Funny how .gov pounces on anything related to terrorism, but ignores a potential epidemic (other than ordering 160,000 hazmat suits for .gov employees). Wonder what 0's approval ratings will be if even a few hundred cases of Ebola pop up in the USA.
At this moment Dear Leader is preparing to dispatch a large shipment of armored personnel carriers, grenade launchers and flak vests for the CDC. Problem fixed!
Knowingly bringing Ebola to another country is no different from knowingly giving someone AIDS. A charge of attempted murder, reckless endangerment, at the very least, if someone dies, a charge of manslaughter. This could be considered an act of terrorism.
Of course, charges like that'll never happen because of all the bleeding hearts. So, due to a few misguided people wanting to be "nice", thousands will likely die.
FUD
I always hated walking the flight-line looking for FUD.
ya-think the C_D_C would get over to the
duncan's house to
HAZMAT CLEANUP
PROGRESSIVE DUMBDOWN
Or at least a SWAT team.
TIMELINE SUGGESTS
DUNCAN KNEW HE HAD
EBOLA BEFORE COMING TO USSA
At this rate, the Cult of the 12 Monkeys might start releasing Zoo Animals all over Texas pretty soon...
I suspect a LOT of CDC staffers will be seeking early retirement about now.
