During An Ebola Pandemic All Of Your Rights Would Essentially Be Meaningless

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Michael Snyder of The Economic Collapse blog,

If there is a major Ebola pandemic in America, all of the liberties and the freedoms that you currently enjoy would be gone.  If government officials believe that you have the virus, federal law allows them to round you up and detain you "for such time and in such manner as may be reasonably necessary."  In addition, the CDC already has the authority to quarantine healthy Americans if they reasonably believe that they may become sick.  During an outbreak, the government can force you to remain isolated in your own home, or the government may forcibly take you to a treatment facility, a tent city, a sports stadium, an old military base or a camp.  You would not have any choice in the matter.  And you would be forced to endure any medical procedure mandated by the government.  That includes shots, vaccines and the drawing of blood.  During such a scenario, you can scream about your "rights" all that you want, but it won't do any good.

In case you are tempted to think that I am making this up, I want you to read what federal law actually says.  The following is 42 U.S.C. 264(d).  I have added bold for emphasis...

(1) Regulations prescribed under this section may provide for the apprehension and examination of any individual reasonably believed to be infected with a communicable disease in a qualifying stage and (A) to be moving or about to move from a State to another State; or (B) to be a probable source of infection to individuals who, while infected with such disease in a qualifying stage, will be moving from a State to another State. Such regulations may provide that if upon examination any such individual is found to be infected, he may be detained for such time and in such manner as may be reasonably necessary. For purposes of this subsection, the term “State” includes, in addition to the several States, only the District of Columbia.

(2) For purposes of this subsection, the term “qualifying stage”, with respect to a communicable disease, means that such disease—

(A) is in a communicable stage; or

(B) is in a precommunicable stage, if the disease would be likely to cause a public health emergency if transmitted to other individuals.

In addition, as I discussed above, the CDC already has the authority to isolate people that are not sick to see if they do become sick.  The following is what the CDC website says about this...

Quarantine is used to separate and restrict the movement of well persons who may have been exposed to a communicable disease to see if they become ill. These people may have been exposed to a disease and do not know it, or they may have the disease but do not show symptoms. Quarantine can also help limit the spread of communicable disease.

On a very basic level, we are already starting to see this happen in Texas.  Obviously Thomas Eric Duncan has already been "isolated", and now his family has been placed under mandatory quarantine and ordered not to leave their home for 21 days...

Texas health officials have placed the Dallas family of a Liberian national infected with Ebola under quarantine and ordered them not to leave their home or have any contact with outsiders for 21 days without approval of the local or state health department.

The "control order" also requires the family of Thomas Eric Duncan to be available to provide blood samples and agree to any testing required by public health officials. Officials said Thursday that the four or five family members could face criminal charges for violating the order, which was delivered to them in writing Wednesday evening.

Police have been stationed at the apartment complex to ensure residents' safety, Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings told a news briefing Thursday afternoon.

If we could all just stay in our homes during a national Ebola emergency, that wouldn't be so bad.

But if thousands (or even millions) of cases start popping up it simply will not be possible for law enforcement authorities to monitor so many homes.

This is a point that Mike Adams of Natural News made exceptionally well...

When just one family is suspected of carrying Ebola, they can be easily monitored in a "volunteer home isolation" scenario. But what happens when it's 100 families? 500? 1,000? At that point, there aren't enough state or federal workers to keep an eye on these people, and the quarantine effort will almost certainly shift to forced relocation into quarantine camps.

Those camps will, of course, be called something nice-sounding like "Community Health Centers." No one in government or media will call them camps, even though they are camps. The word "camp" brings up echoes of "concentration camps" and the government definitely wants to avoid that association.

If one particular town or city is hit especially hard with the virus, there is a likelihood of the entire town being quarantined. No one in, no one out. Everybody will be ordered to "shelter in place" in their own homes for at least 21 days while health workers wearing hazmat suits go door to door, identifying Ebola victims and "relocating" them to the "Community Health Centers."

If that sounds like "martial law" to you, that is because it would essentially be martial law.

For the moment, public health authorities are pledging that nothing like this will ever happen because they have everything completely under control.

Others are not so sure.

For example, on Thursday a doctor from Missouri named Gil Mobley checked in for a flight at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport dressed in a mask, goggles, gloves, boots and a protective white jumpsuit.  On the back of the jumpsuit, he had written the following words:  "CDC is lying!"

Mobley believes that we are not being told the truth about the spread of Ebola.  And he is convinced that as Ebola continues to spread exponentially, that we will eventually "be importing clusters of Ebola on a daily basis"...

“Once this disease consumes every third world country, as surely it will, because they lack the same basic infrastructure as Sierra Leone and Liberia, at that point, we will be importing clusters of Ebola on a daily basis,” Mobley predicted.

“That will overwhelm any advanced country’s ability to contain the clusters in isolation and quarantine. That spells bad news.”

Mobley, a Medical College of Georgia graduate who had an overnight layover after flying to Atlanta from Guatemala on Wednesday, said that he feels that the CDC is “asleep at the wheel” when it comes to screening passengers arriving in the United States from other countries.

“Yesterday, I came through international customs at the Atlanta airport,” the doctor told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “The only question they asked arriving passengers is if they had tobacco or alcohol.”

Earlier on Thursday, there were reports of people being tested for Ebola in Hawaii, Kentucky and Utah.  None of those tests has produced a confirmed case of Ebola as I write this article.

Many Americans are still treating this Ebola crisis as if it was just one big joke.

But Ebola is no joking matter.  This is a very, very serious disease.

Just consider the experience of one British health worker that witnessed a young brother and sister both die one day apart...

'The next morning I came in and saw him lying as I had left him, on the bed.

'He wasn't breathing. I remember going up to him and looking at his face, his lips were drawn back in a grimace, and his eyes were vacant, lying in a pool of his own diarrhea.

'I lifted his hand to try, just to confirm things and his whole body turned rigid and cold.

'I put him in a body bag as his sister looked on.

'She seemed more baffled than anything, not really understanding what was happening. I carried his corpse outside with the others.

'The little girl, she deteriorated the next day. Overnight, the following night she had intravenous fluids and the line came out and she bled.

'I came in the following morning and she was covered in blood. She still had a very puzzled expression on her face and she wasn't breathing.

'So I put her in a bag and left her next to her brother. She was a beautiful little girl.'

Hopefully our medical authorities are correct and this virus will not spread easily in this country.

But at this point even some of our top politicians are wondering if we are truly getting accurate information.  For example, check out what U.S. Senator Rand Paul had to say on the Laura Ingraham Show just recently...

“I really think that it is being dominated by political correctness and I think because of political correctness we’re not really making sound, rational, scientific decisions on this.” Paul said referring to statements issued by the CDC last week that assured there was little risk of an outbreak occurring in the US.

“We should not underestimate the transmissibility of this,” said Paul, a doctor himself, adding that medical workers have been contracting the virus even though they are taking precautions and covering themselves with gowns and masks.

My suspicion is that it’s a lot more transmissible than that if people who are taking every precaution are getting it. There are people getting it who simply helped people get in or out of a taxicab.” Paul said.

Let's pray that this crisis fizzles out, because if it doesn't, we could truly be looking at the greatest health crisis that any of us have ever seen.

And along with countless numbers of people getting sick and dying, we would also have to deal with government-imposed medical martial law.

The stakes are extremely high, and so let us hope that this crisis does not escalate any further.

Joe Blow:  Good!

Camp FEMA officer:  Now, for the bad news.  You don't have ebola.

Joe Blow:  That's bad news?

Camp FEMA officer:  Well, no.  The bad news is you now have bedbugs, multi-drug resistant tuberculosis, enterovirus D-68, H1N1 influenza, and dengue fever.

Joe Blow:  Now that is bad news.

Camp FEMA:  Yup, but I have more good news.  You're free to go!

Civil disobedience is exactly what the ochalichs want. Infected people contaminating others which fits in perfectly with salitifing and consolation plans in the coming Utopia. Keeping the masses controlled is the plan. Let me explain this, if they can force a person to quarantine yet at the same time keep flying hundreds of people in from infected areas. ~ then you go figure ~

Realistically, at some point, any government facing such a situation will need to forcibly isolate people for the purpose of stemming the outbreak and for the protection of the healthy population.

The problem is this:

What do you do when your dealing with an untrustworthy government that never lets a good crisis go to waste?

Get the P100 masks. P is for particulates.  Best is to have facemask type respirator with filters you can dispose of. You need a tight fit or you could end up with a leak.  I asked board of health agent before I bought mine and was told P100.

p100 is even better, in my uneducated opinion, because it also filters oil based particles.  but p100 masks ar more expensive so you can get fewer of them.  full or half face masks with replaceable cartriges would be more economical and more cleanable/reusable.  what do the profesionals use?

Everybody posting how tired they are of hearing about Ebola are getting way too tired way too early. The Fukushima story has died because it only affected one reactor in one community (forget about the worldwide spread of radioactive particles for the moment.) But the Ebola story is like what would have happened if first Fukushima, then another, then another Japanese reactor had exploded until all 70 or so of them were spewing radiation.

In other words - this is a progressive event. The bullshit about keeping it contained is just that - bullshit. All you have to see is the pictures of the workers in Dallas pressure-washing (aerosolizing) the Ebola vomit/blood off the sidewalk while women in flip-flops walk through the slime to realize that the basic problem is that there are just too many stupid people in the world and its time for the herd to be thinned out radically. And little Mr. Shepherd's Crook is the guy to do the job.

The actual Fukushima data is just starting to come to light right now.  TEPCO managed to hide it for over three years.  Reading the new data, one realizes that unbelieveable amounts of radiation were released atmospherically, and Tokyo was almost abandoned. Someone should do an FOIA request of the dosimetry data taken on the roof of the US embassy in Tokyo after 3/11 because they were completely freaking out over the readings they were taking.   The USS Reagan sailed directly into 20 Trillion Bequerels per second (!!!) of radiation released from the reactors (plural) on 3/11. Sailors on the flight deck were literally eating radioactive "snow" as it fell on deck. Far worse than Tchernobyl.

Believe me when I tell you your government is petrified of how you will react to this action if they take it.

Let's look at what happened here after Fukushima was blown up purposely. If you spoke out about it they immediately put in a law making you a criminal and crushed dissent.

There they are still pussy footing around with propaganda. Look you're safer at school than in your own mother's Ebola ridden arms. Love us, trust us, we're your government.

The problem with rounding people up is that the troops have to expose themselves to Ebola to do so.  This can be done on a limited scale, but not in a full blown pandemic. There won't be enough troops. The only thing that can be done then is to isolate entire areas and let the disease burn itself out when it runs out of people to infect. I expect the biggest man made and natural barriers to be the choke points of isolation. Major highways can become isolation lines (as in no one crosses I-70), and major rivers barriers. There aren't very many ways to cross the Hudson, the Potomac, or the Mississippi rivers on the ground. Nice easy choke points, and all very doable with available soldiers and police. Metro areas will run out of food very quickly, and that can't be helped.

If the number of infected is doubling every 20 days, it will increase by 256K-fold in about a year, and spread as far and wide as it possibly can within 2 years. After that, the only people alive will be those who survived the infection.

The people who run our country are perfectly capable of understanding the dimensions of this crisis and what needs to be done, yet they have been dragging their feet for months. It's hard to avoid the conclusion that, at best, they don't care.

The phrase "benign neglect" comes to mind.

"We are looking at a confluence of the Patriot Act, CDC epidemic-intelligence foot-soldiers, the NSA, Obamacare, medical ID packages for all citizens, and even community groups who “should be on the lookout” for people “displaying Ebola symptoms. Some of these symptoms, such as fever, fatigue, and cough are so general that they’ll spawn overeager helpers (aka busybodies yearning for official status)."

Yeah, don't know what the pretext will be (Ebola, economic collapse, another 9/11, etc) but gubmint all set and just waiting for chance to take control - martial law, by-by "democracy" and "freedoms".

Ever think that 'Satan' is behind this, purposefully orchestrating things to turn democracies into totalitarian states? It just seems like an ever-faster march toward dictatorship, and he's got plenty of politician puppets more than happy to cooperate with him in the scheme.

Finally, the doomsday preppers can jerk off over there xmas dinner MRE's !

It's the preppers time in the sun.

If you live or have to function in a major town or city, you should ? make plans now to get out to a remote community. Population sub 1000 .

All these stupid? people becoming infected by DIRECT contact, or, is ebola alraedy airborne ? The news channels don't exactly seem to be giving details on how stupid all these people are for having DIRECT contact when they know they'll likely kill themselves as a result.

You better make plans now. If you've been thinking of moving out of the city, get it done this side of xmas.

Good luck.

I came across this video about Liberian bushmeat markets and ebola which was shot in June 2014, before the virus really took off.  At the time there were only a few cases, and what is interesting is how similar the public, and even the expert, opinions were to what we are now hearing from our own officials. Denial is a universal human trait.  Something to think about.  I imagine opinions have changed a bit over in Liberia.

They are not 'Rights', they are priveleges and as such they can be removed when needed, and lets face it we can't have people with Ebola wandering the streets and throwing up everywhere while they mumble about their 'Rights' while infringing on everyone elses supposed 'Rights'

Gotta come down on the side of common sense on this one and people can should stop bitching about their supposed 'Rights' being abused, its an epidemic.

what is happening is consistent with what ebola does.  it is a known vector.  the other confounding variables like politics,  im sure i would have better luck predicting the random motion of a water molecule moving through the ocean.  political considerations aside it dosen't change the effective response to ebola.

I just want to add again that scary diseases do pop up from time to time.  H1N1, the bird flu, etc.  And we get riled up about it.

Ebola has been around for half a century, and let's say it's killed 10,000 people (inflating the official numbers).

That's 0.0000014% of the current world population.  It's caused a few thousand deaths in African countries that have been very poorly equipped to deal with it.  Even with CDC incompetence, we are reasonably good at this sort of thing.

Even if it kills a million, in some of the sensationalist estimates -- we do a terrible job of quarantine, we produce no drugs or vaccines, etc. -- that is 0.00014% of the world population.

The 1918 flu epidemic killed 3 to 5 percent of the world population at the time.  HIV has been killing a couple million people per year.  We do have flu vaccines, but flu evolves much faster than Ebola, and if we got the vaccine wrong, we would be vulnerable.

So I agree that there's a threat from illness.  And I agree that there's a threat from Ebola.  However, when a few Americans get infected with one of these token scary diseases, people get all panicked and think the end is near.  Maybe, but probably not.

epidemiology in Africa doesn't compare because of the different population densities.   in Africa a small remote village would get it .  they barricade the village everyone dies,  then they burn the houses with the dead.  this is what we need to do.  QUARANTINE suspected ebola carriers and burn the infected dead.

everybody knows that large colonies of any organism are susceptible to epidemics.  ants produce their own antibiotics.  we are under attack by an efficient biological predator.

As Minister of Enlightenment, Goebbels  had two main tasks:

to ensure nobody in Germany could read or see anything that was hostile or damaging to the Nazi Party.

to ensure that the views of the Nazis were put across in the most persuasive manner possible.

To ensure success, Goebbels had to work with the SS and Gestapo and Albert Speer. The former hunted out those who might produce articles defamatory to the Nazis and Hitler while Speer helped Goebbels with public displays of propaganda.

To ensure that everybody thought in the correct manner, Goebbels set up the Reich Chamber of Commerce in 1933. This organisation dealt with literature, art, music, radio, film, newspapers etc. To produce anything that was in these groups, you had to be a member of the Reich Chamber. The Nazi Party decided if you had the right credentials to be a member. Any person who was not admitted was not allowed to have any work published or performed. Disobedience brought with it severe punishments. As a result of this policy, Nazi Germany introduced a system of censorship. You could only read, see and hear what the Nazis wanted you to read, see and hear. In this way, if you believed what you were told, the Nazi leaders logically assumed that opposition to their rule would be very small and practiced only by those on the very extreme who would be easy to catch.

Hitler came to power in January 1933. By May 1933, the Nazi Party felt sufficiently strong to publicly demonstrate where their beliefs were going when Goebbels organised the first of the infamous book burning episodes.  Books that did not match the Nazi ideal was burnt in public - loyal Nazis ransacked libraries to remove the 'offending' books. "Where one burns books, one eventually burns people" commented the author Brecht.

Ebola would kill indiscriminantly, which would be far too risky for the ruling class and their minions like bill gates.  A vaccine on the other hand, administered selectively to the quivering sheeple, would be like a eugenics surgical strike.  Watch Contagion, fantastic propaganda to lead the sheeple to the slaughterhouse.
