Stephen King Fears "The World Is Starting To Look Like Orwell's 1984"

Tyler Durden's picture

"It's tiring," explains author Stephen King in this succinct interview, "to see the world looks more and more like George Orwell's vision in 1984 where war is a constant thing... it's just a little bit depressing."

I doubt that even Stephen King could have imagined the horror that is our USSA Fed government.  Even George Orwell would have been surprised.

Yeah... had King had the vision 40 years ago, his "Carrie" might have instead been "Barry".

Or, how about "Children Of The Porn"?

King isn't surprised. He wrote The Running Man in 1982 which predicted a global economic collapse and the United States turns into a totalitarian state with bread and circus TV shows of contestants being hunted to death.

Pet Semetary and The Talisman ( with Peter Straub ), hell yes.  The Shining, yes.  Salem's Lot, yeah.  Everything else might've been written by some wordy hack with a leftist agenda on Dayquil.

Having a hard time deciding where to jump in here, so finally chose this based on your "Fuck Stephen King"

So, I have read basically everything Stephen King ever wrote because I like the way he thinks (ergo the way he writes, developes his characters) I am a HUGE fan!

BTW, he has written many other things besides 'The Stand' which today remains my all time favorite work of his < well, as far as full novels go ... I actually think my favorite is 'Shawshank Redemption' but that was a short story >.

See, he is a very complicated writer who has the ability to tell a great story ... so WHY the HELL would I give two shits about his personal ideaology ???

I don't.

That guy works for BLOOMBERG. Um, MICHEAL BLOOMBERG. The surveillance-city no-Cokes MAYOR, MICHEAL BLOOMBERG.

I have several of Mr. King's novels ('The Stand' being the best one in my opinion), but the guy personally is an ass when it comes to politics. HIS president 'Cannigula' is carrying on the surveillance-state mantra set in place by USAPATRIOT and the NSA, and he's all blubbering and whining and puling about how scared HE is that it looks like '1984'. The BLOOMBOIG employee isn't about to start ANY line of questioning that brings Dear Leader Adolf Obola, the Mullato Kenyan Golfer-In-Chief, into question, though, regarding this growth of the 'Survelliance State' (OR the CIA OR Israeli State Intelligence Services OR the FED OR 'Nanothermite', god forbid). Mr. king used the correctly-scripted 'ISIL', in his commentary (find the region 'Levant' on a map, and that little 'state' in the middle of it all).

NOW, on to the REAL question: Is Steven King FOR or AGAINST 'gay marriage'?

I am not interested in S. King; however, I am interested in surviving (maybe even thriving, but that's asking a lot) under a fascistic State which I cannot readily escape nor change.  Hate to say it, but the State does not want your or anyone else's "change" or input.  It says, "F-off serf and pay your tax."

The upshot?  Try to figure out what the Boundary Conditions are from the perspective of the "Owners"**.  Then, examine what you can do to adjust your lifestyle to avoid as much of the imposed burden as possible, economic and otherwise.

Examples are several (and thanks for the comments here on ZH for years which have taught me much): Don't like Corporatism? Then work yourself out of that "C. Wright Mills -esque" dystopia and become "old middle class", AKA a "small entrepreneur ".  Don't like invasive surveillance of your trade secrets and personal life in the digital realm?  Then make sure only those with whom you wish to share are allowed to share. (See the bio for one option.)  Don't like the cheap corporate food?  Then spend more money on better food and/or grow your own food.  All of the previous is interesting but it gets "real" when you and your clan examine how to stay out of the current resource wars; I don't have any proven methods and am too old personally to be directly affected.  Tip: for the young, you do need to pass a "physical"….

Still learning and reading about how deep and curated the State is and has been for years (Carroll Quigley, Everett Martin, Gaetano Mosca, John Flynn, …).  My negativity toward big Statism is unfortunately supported by years of noted observations and analysis of sociologists.

She was wrong as hell on this quote.

We have seen Reality completely fucking ignored, scoffed at and spit on, when it persisted to keep showing up. > 1996-1999 >> 2004-2007 >>> 2008-NOW.

We have ALSO seen the consequences of IGNORING REALITY not just ignored, but monkey-hammered in it's ass and sent fucking packing.

Incase you have missed this pummel-fucking of reality, just sit in front of TV and gape your mouf.

In less educated circles, I believe that is referred to as 'denial'.

When the totalitarian boot is repeatedly stamping on your face for the rest of your life, would this reality be one in which you CANNOT believe?

IGNORING reality is a sin to yourself and God. LIVING in the reality you denied the existence of (and hence where called upon to change while it were still possible while being told about it) is called IDIOCY. When the REALITY you willfully ignored suddenly becomes in those entities who you denied the existence of, and they come to your door and haul you away to a camp and start to stomp their boots on your face is called the CONSEQUENCE of IGNORING REALITY.

This cannot be made any simpler or less plain. All else is simply MENTAL MASTURBATION.

Momma says the stove burner is hot, and not to touch it. Ignoring this REALITY, baby sticks his hand in the flame... It's NOT necessarily 'denial'; as much as it is 'obstinance' or 'rebellion'.

WILLFUL IGNORANCE is NOT 'bliss'. It is blind, obstinate, rebellious ARROGANCE and PRIDE.

If you get me hooked on SOMA, I'll probably LET you put the telescreen up in my living room. I won't CARE if you watch me (as I will have nothing to hide by that time, and won't give a shit even if I do).

UM... Does the 'WAR WITH DRUGS' (oops, 'war ON drugs') have anything to do with this? Same thing, really... when a male and a female copulate, they are WITH each other, but the male is ON the female (normally, at least), so the words are similar, you know, in the usage of TPTB.

How about the 'WAR WITH TERROR'? Since you are on drugs whether you know or not (flouride, GMO's, pesticides, BPA's, water supplies contaminated with SSRI and other drug residues in city systems, etc.), the 'technology' of the two-way telecommunications interface seems almost 'normal' (because everyone else is doing it). GPS, ONSTAR, QUAD-S televisions, X-boxes that intercommunicate, cameras in Walmart, 'BLUETOOTH', whatever and wherever you go, it's almost ACCEPTABLE to most of the masses who are too complacent and drugged to see the REALITY of it.

Huxley and Orwell were only seeing through the mirror, darkly. It's more like John Carpenter's 'THEY LIVE'.

Silly.  They're not going to do anything that was a movie and a comic book.

Here is the nightmare scenario:

Russia, the US, and China have been colluding for some time to divide omnia mundi in tres partes in the fashion of George Orwell.

The Great Culling Wars will be fought.  The great culling diseases will become pandemic.  The great poisoning of foodstuffs and water supplies will cull even more.

The survivors of these cullings will be terrified and submit entirely to the whims of their government.  Each meganation will loathe the two others.

The today's propaganda will be a shadow of what's in store...

Oh, go reread the book

And don't expect to see this on Drudge.

Kids today...

They are so scared of the government and give em way too much credit.

Nobody really knows how it will really go down. Or when.

The only reason the government acts like it knows shit is because every one of its scenarios has a contingency ending with them in bunkers and shit out "in the world" melting down.

Beyond that, they have close to zero fucking control over anything including their assorted sphincters and are not exactly gaining ground at the moment.

Entropy.

1984 started for me soon after I read the book and looked around.

About November 22, 1963 to be exact

"The affairs of man and nature are not determined at random or by mere chance,' wrote CIA liaison, Colonel Fletcher Prouty in JFK: The CIA, Vietnam, and the Plot to Assassinate John F. Kennedy  . '1963 marked a major turning point in this century because the power elite moved that year to remove John F. Kennedy from the White House and to take the course of the Ship of State into their own hands.' But the assassination of JFK according to history books probably didn't occur from the sixth floor window of the Texas School Book Depository, but from the Dal-Tex building to the east (right in photo #1) and the Grassy Knoll to the west. (photo #2). If the nature of a successful conspiracy is the concealment of individuals involved and their true motives, the same was true of the site."

You just cannot make this stuff up --

Turkey lets would-be terorrists through, doesn't attack ISIS or let its bases be used to attack ISIS - so the CIA gets ISIS to attack a Syrian city right on the Turkish border -- WITH TANKS and HEAVY ARTILLERY - stuff that would 'seem' to be good targets for drones and airstrikes - but we don't attack those units?
