Spain Warns "Something Went Wrong" As Suspected Ebola Cases Rise In Madrid
Despite being described by Spain's public health director as "a national jewel," the head of Spain's Nursing Council warns "something went wrong" in the health care system's protocols. As RT reports, Spanish health officials have 4 patients interned including infected initial nurse, her husband, and a 2nd nurse (male). Furthermore, 22 more possible Ebola cases are under surveillance having had direct contact with the infected nurse during her vacation after being infected (officials have said they 'don't know' how she became infected with the deadly virus). Images within the hospital show "irregularities" and make-shift isolation units and an insider account said "I do not want to create social alarm, but explain what is still a reality everyday for a few months of nursing staff at the ICU.". One researcher noted "air traffic is the driver.," and added ominously, "it's just a matter of who gets lucky and who gets unlucky."
Health officials in Madrid say three more people are in the hospital on suspicion of contracting Ebola. The news comes a day after a nurse who treated two Ebola patients at a city hospital became infected with the disease.
The nurse is now being treated with a drip using antibodies from those previously infected with the virus, Reuters reports. Approximately 22 contacts of the woman, often referred to as the 'Spanish Ebola nurse,' have been identified and are being monitored, Madrid health officials told a press conference on Tuesday.
The officials added that the hospitalized include the nurse's husband, another health worker and a traveler who had spent time in one of he affected West African countries.
Spanish authorities are struggling to explain the infection, as The Daily Mail reports
"At the moment we are investigating the way in which the professional was infected," said Antonio Alemany, the head of Madrid's primary health care services.
"We don't know yet what failed," he was quoted by the Guardian as saying. "We're investigating the mechanism of infection."
Mercedes Vinuesa, the head of Spain's public health service, told parliament today that the nurse's husband had been placed in quarantine.
And, as RT reports, in a similar vein to Dallas, it appears local hospitals were anything but prepared for this...
Spanish authorities have come under increasing pressure to explain how the disease was able to spread in their hopital. While they say all proper protocols and procedure were followed while providing care to the deceased missionaries, reports to the contrary have surfaced.
According to the Guardian, staff at the hospital said waste from the rooms of both patients had been carried out in the same elevator used by all personnel. The hospital was also reportedly not evacuated when the second patient, García Viejo, was taken in to receive treatment.
Union workers also accused the government of providing hospital staff with adequate hazmat-suits.
Some Spanish medical-worker representatives said the situation should prompt an overhaul of the procedures and facilities used to treat those afflicted with the virus.
“Something went wrong,” Máximo Gonzalez Jurado, head of Spain’s General Nursing Council, told Spanish news agency EFE. “They need to establish if the protocol is correct or not correct so that a case like this, that never should have happened, doesn’t happen again.”

"Air traffic is the driver," warns Professor Alessandro Vespignani of Northeastern University in Boston...predicting where the virus will spread...
There is a 50 per cent chance a traveller carrying the disease could touch down in the UK by October 24, a team of U.S. researchers have predicted.
Using Ebola spread patterns and airline traffic data they have calculated the odds of the virus spreading across the world.
They estimate there is a 75 per cent chance Ebola will reach French shores by October 24.
And Belgium has a 40 per cent chance of seeing the disease arrive on its territory, while Spain and Switzerland have lower risks of 14 per cent each.
'It's just a matter of who gets lucky and who gets unlucky."

An insider whistle-blows on the weakness in Spanish anti-Ebola protocls (via Google Translate)
I am a nurse in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Hospital La Paz. The reason for addressing you.'s To inform the public the facts that have happened recently regarding the "Crisis of the Ebola virus" opinion. Do not want to create social alarm, but tell what is still a reality in everyday for a few months of nursing staff the ICU among which I include ago.
Since the hospital was named La Paz as a reference center for the diagnosis and treatment of HIV infection in April 2014, the staff has been showing its disconfor to that measure and irregularities have been committing the direction of nursing the hospital as a whole. (See attachment Notification Judge).
These irregularities summarize, focus on that:
• The hospital does not have adequate infrastructure to enter patients affected with this type of disease (the famous isolation rooms with negative pressure).
• The original protocols of the Ministry of Health were modified to fit like the gaps that had the hospital: If you do not have "negative pressure" we say "as far as is demonstrated airborne transmission is not necessary."
• General (modified or not) protocols are not handed to staff for knowledge, nor were exposed at various meetings with management nursing.
• As ICU care were demanding the implementation of specific protocols UCI (Today still not exist or at least personnel have not arrived)
• Staff training requires the completion of courses and training to work in situations like this.
• The Department of Preventive Medicine Hospital offers two informative talks (45 minutes) of such as personal protective equipment required. In those talks and the inexperience of the same staff that taught, costumes torn apart, replaced the shims for plastic bags, there were no complete SCUBA and coming to say more or less I had to do a hack to cover his face with masking tape.
Without being solved any of these issues by the Department of the hospital, you will hanging out and communicating to staff that will be the Hospital of the defense "Gómez Ulla" who takes these emergencies but as it is in the process of reform to create appropriate facilities, until the month of October will remain referral hospital.
...
Finally only remains to emphasize that in all this there is a lot of improvisation and a lot of reckless attitude of those who truly, really ... NOT going to be ahead of the virus at him in the face. Listen to those who are on the front line have something to say.

BIG Fuckup???
... Watching Texas ...
No shit. Bringing it Out of Africa.
DUmbfucks
It has never, in the history of Ebola, Not Been Airborne.
Good to know that Spain only has a 14% chance of seeing Ebola by October 24th....
Mark my words. This turns into the 21st Century plague all over the Earth and the health authorities will duck blame by saying it Mutated
The Culling Has Begun
Cheering Loudly form Gates, Rockefeller and Buffett
The New Eugenics
Scratching Madrid off my bucket list...
We instituted a no-fly zone around everyone on our family.
Airlines should start to feel the pinch.
Prepare to bail them out.
They Have "NO CLUE" As To How The Spanish Nurse Was Infected...
Well Friedman, Thats Comforting...
More than 300 dead doctors and nurses in Africa which has never happened before with any other Ebola outbreak.
Might lead a PhD or a trash collector at the hospital to say that there is something different with this outbreak.
It is not your dad's Ebola.
But no, no - we absolutely cannot stop direct flights from West Africa to North America. Cannot possibly consider that because.
Now their naming dates?
Why would Obama and the head of the CDC and all those advisors say have to continue direct flights from West Africa.
Normal logic would say that there is no rational reason to keep the flights going. So, let the conspiracy theories run wild.
A requirement of a 21 day quarantine and medcal check before anyone travels to the US from West Africa does not seem unreasonable in the circumstances.
But that is not possible.
There must be a right of immediate return.
"something went wrong"
Actually, I believe it is going exactly as planned.
No news about recent infections / deaths out of Africa the past few days... a little disturbing...
Don't worry.
Catalonia, Basque Country, Galicia and Andalucia (physical, by bombing borders) secessions will isolate the virus in New Spanish Kingdom.
Let's see who closes their borders 6 months from now when there are millions dead...
Agenda 21 de-population beginning? Just wait until they blind side us with a super-enterovirus once ebola gets a good foothold. Ugly.
NOW HEAR THIS
CDC NOW SAYS YOU CAN"Y GET EBOLA THROUGH FOOD OR WATER!
Then why shopuld I sotp eating bat meat or stop sharing a cup with a diseased Ebola Carrier?
Fucking Ridiculous..... Murderous.... Insane....
http://weaselzippers.us/201836-ebola-hard/
Be that as it may knukles, we have cancelled our reservation at that new Liberian raw-food joint. All the rage too, you sit on the floor and get to eat with your hands.
pods
got LUV puts ? (and UAL, CCL, RCL, AAL )
The flow chart showing air traffic is interesting. Guess which country doesn't have many Africans flying in? Russia...
That's right those commie bastards started this shit because they hate brown people, jews, Merica, and our dollar. They want the World to themselves.
That would be Mexico, locking down their northern boarder.
...."Something Went Wrong".......
No caca, Ricardo.
Next will be China. Then we'll hear "Sumting Went Wong" I suppose.
Ebola has ALWAYS enjoyed spreading in hospitals. Review the literature.

Right. Everything is planned. "They" have it all under control.
What a comfortable, predictable world you must live in.
"They" brought it to Spain (planned)
"It" got out. (expected by many)
No omniscience required.
I think the answer is so simple and horrible at the same time..... They want a crisis.... It will help them attain their goal.... Also, at this pace, it's doubtful there will be any elections in 2yrs unless a vaccine that works is found.
With 6000 coming every week from the infected zones, it's the Cloward Piven method of creating the worlds largest crisis for the U.S....
Knuckles is correct and Ebola experts know that this variety of ebola was scientifically proved to be able to move from the pigs to monkehs tbrough the air.
We are being lied to.
From a math perspective this single case from Liberia in Texas. If you assume for simplicity of calculations that he passed the viruss to 100 people and that each to another 100 and each to 100. And we stop there we would have 1.000.000 people carrying the virus. Fun?
The contagion rate is about 2.2 or 2.3 in W. Africa... that means that each person with the disease infects about 2.2 more.... Let's just use 2 as the multiplier.
If you look below... there's the math... so, it says that 2**2 is 4 so, the 2nd generation of ebola you have 4 infected..... the 2**5 is 32 infected so, the fth generation of the virus, you have 32... the 15th generation, you've got 32,768 infected... and the 30th generation, you've got 1.07 billion sick.
Now, think of it this way.... 21 days from now, you will have more dead than the total number of people that have the virus today.
We're simply getting to the scary numbers scenerio now... people are starting to understand the numbers and how bad they truly are, I think.

Maybe...
This will be much better or worse in Europe and America than in Africa.
I have a really bad feeling about what modern air handling systems will do with this.
Bye bye Cities.
Yeah... I think it will be slow to start in modern countries... the problem we will have is that the virus looks like the flu for a while and contact tracing will fail at some saturation point.
The way to stop it or at least slow it down some would be to stop flights to those countries..... But.... If Mexico gets sick with this... It'll just walk over here in large numbers.
We need a working vaccine and we need one NOW. Of course the contagion rate will slow as the virus has less people to jump to... but, for now in Africa people with the virus are being turned away and sent back home.
If you start with one patient, it takes 630 days to get to generation 30..... Of course, that is simplel math and, it only really works when the true infection rate is 2.... It won't be in developed countries until we've lost control completely of it's spread.... Like in Africa right now.... Of course, you can insure that we lose control of it by not stopping air traffic and have 6000 / week coming in.... and/or when Mexico gets sick.
You're right about Mexico.
I think the Criminal in Chief will be forced to do the right thing soon, but it may be too late already.
Maybe we should stop having the people in charge of gay marriage start dealing with this?
ENA (EBOLA NATIONAL AIRLINES) just slashed fares by 30% across all flights from now until Feb 4 2015.
That's because they don't want to extrapolate too far into the future where instead of 7k-15k infections, we're possibly dealing with 50k-100k. As long as we keep doing business as ususal, those percentages will increase to near 100%.
Iffin we don't send troops other there to fight Ebola, we'll end up fighting Ebola over here - The Mulatto Marionette
We cannot stop flights from Ebola infected Africa, because that will increase the number of Ebola cases in the US. - Some CDC fuck that hopefully will dangle from a lamppost one day.
Listen FMJ.
Watch out for "BLACK" people. That's my new motto. Luckily you have many in USSA, not so here in India.
Feurgeson "TYPES". Dumb, predictable, easy to infect.
Watch out for "THEM". Watch, OK, watch.
India is one of the nations least prepared to deal with the conseqences of an ebola epidemic.
Ebola doesn't give a shit about races or racism and it is hungry for new hosts to feed upon.
Vicious racist gloating and hubristic bullshit isn't going to keep it from breaching the border and savaging Pakistan with similar ferocity despite the nationalistic/muslim acrimony/superiority complex either.
"Luckily you have many in USSA, not so here in India.'
Technically accurate, since Dalits don't count as people, but they still caste shadows, and I hear you can get sick if they just look at you!
24% of the population. Gives a whole new meaning to the word "untouchable" doesn't it?
Gonna be tough on rich Indians who'll have to do their own cooking, laundry, shopping, child care. I mean, who knows where your servants go when they leave the house? Did they cross paths with a Dalit? Did they ride the same bus? Are you gonna take that chance?
My wife is Indian, 3rd generation out of Singapore.
I've always thought the way for a Westerner who is completely sick of Western women would be to marry some attractive, educated 'lower caste' Indian.
EZPZ and you would both get to laugh at this caste bullshit.
Listen FMJ.
Pay no attention to the "ZERO" know-it-alls. They don't know shit about India.
Fuck you eBEAR! Get the fuck off of my cloud and stop stalking me on The Hedge!
Awwww.... I made the little Indian boy cry. How sad.
Here ya go Mowgli. This will cheer you up!

By not preventing it from leaving West Africa the governments of the world are making a grave mistake. For instance, the CDC already knows that dogs are a resevoir/asymptomatic carrier for Ebola and could infect people.
"
Given the frequency of contact between humans and domestic dogs, canine Ebola infection must be considered as a potential risk factor for human infection and virus spread. Human infection could occur through licking, biting, or grooming. Asymptomatically infected dogs could be a potential source of human Ebola outbreaks and of virus spread during human outbreaks, which could explain some epidemiologically unrelated human cases. Dogs might also be a source of human Ebola outbreaks, such as the 1976 Yambuku outbreaks in Democratic Republic of Congo (19), the 1995 Kikwit outbreak, some outbreaks that occurred in 1996 and 2004 in Gabon and Republic of Congo (5), and the 1976 (6), 1979 (20), and 2004 (21) outbreaks in Sudan, the sources of which are still unknown.
http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/eid/article/11/3/pdfs/04-0981.pdf
The carrier in Africa is commonly believed to be the fruit bat, but in reality the carrier leading to human infection has never been positively identified. in fact, ebola virus has been detected in chimpanzees, gorillas, fruit bats, monkeys, antelopes, porcupines, rodents, dogs, pigs and humans. If we allow the virus to spread into these species around the world there will be no end to it, and the only hope will be that enough of an effective vaccine can be created or devised quickly enough (within the next year or so) to minimize the devastation resulting from an international pandemic unlike any other in history.
Awaiting Obama Executive Order mandating importation and sale of fruit bats.
Be the fruit bat. You can't fly, but you can get a LARGE DAILY VITAMIN C intake.
You're welcome.
I wonder if the CDC monitors have any idea where these people have fled to?
http://www.liberianobserver.com/news/terrified-residents-flee-dogs-eat-e...
Listen syncretist.
Wow, how wicked. Nice "DOGGIE", nice.
Eclectic....you have now hit the monkey on the head.
The WHO and the CDC have been grandstanding and fearmongering and saying as many as a million people may die by January from Ebola. WHATEVER!! Total BS to get governments to fork over billions. The problem with crying wolf like this is when we hit January and only 25,000 have died from Ebola, people are going to stop believing the grandstanders.
But that's not the concern. The concern is that Ebola esapes Africa FOREVER and begins to "dwell" among other continents, circulating slowly and patiently in albino squirrels or wolves or lemurs....or whatever, and rearing it's ugly head at seemingly random places, and random times, like 9 killed last month in Newark, 6 killed this month in Norman, OK, 4 next month in San Diego. THIS is what we should all be worried about...which is why we MUST act now to contain this disease.
...gives a whole new meaning to Hope and Change
No doubt brother. They screwed the pooch when they failed to bring it under control earlier this year and are now compounding that mistake by not doing much much more to prevent the virus spreading around the globe. Using thermometers and a few more customs agents asking questions would not have stopped Mr. Duncan, and it won't stop all the people who will soon be fleeing Liberia, Sierra Leone, ect.
This ideology that one person is only infecting two on average is assinine, as exemplified by the Spanish nurse who is now responsible for over 20 people being taken out of cirulation for the next 3-4 weeks. Multiply that scenario by millions fold and you will begin to see how hopeless the situation will be, because there will quickly not be enough monitors, and every country will find itself in a situation similar to those extant in South Africa right now.
Listen chistische.
"we MUST act now to contain this disease."
You're on The Hedge my friend. We "CHEER" for opposite!
Exactly how it happened during the Black Plague....wave after wave over years and years as the virus passed back and forth through the population..... This thing is a civilization killer and Obama is fiddling as he watches the smoke off in the distance.
No this isnt exactly how it happened during the plague. For starters, the plague was a bacterial infection carried by fleas and in rats and mice. Also, the travel lines over Europe while long, were well traveled, which helped spread the disease. They lacked modern science and relied on superstion, magic, and most importantly avoidance.
Here we are in the 21st century and we are faced with our first possible serious pandemic , one worthy of our arrogance and hubris, Ebola. How will we approach this? As we would during the plague days, with magic and superstition? Or are we going to deal with it as a modern society? Our travel patterns are immensly more complex today and Ebola is immensly more complex than the plague. Will humanity shut down its infrastructure to stop the spread of this disease? 21 days is all it will take.
If we truely wanted to solve the Ebola problem, we would need to shut everything down, for at least 21 days. Shelter in place. Gather supplies, dry rice, dry beans. 100 pounds of each should last you a month. 5 pounds of salt. You will also need access to water, this is most difficult. I have my supply, a creek outside my apartment and a way to filter it. I know I would break isolation but, Im sure I wouldnt be the only one. Have trained working on site military crews manning the power plants and water facilities.
But anyway, good luck eveybody!
Link contains some terrifying shit that we are not being told. Mrs. SWR is an ICU nurse and she is not being told this. Motherfuckers.
The head of the CDC said he will tell us "everything we NEED to know", leaving himself plenty of wiggle room to leave stuff out. Why he hasn't told Olbombya he resigns because of doomed policy is beyond me. Maybe he's not man enough or not smart enough.
I'll bet your wife hasn't heard about this either.
Dogs eat Ebola victims, spread plague.
http://www.wnd.com/2014/10/dogs-eating-ebola-victims-spreading-epidemic/
Good link. I didn't know dogs spread the virus but do not die from it. The 64k question is why do dogs exhibit immunity and humans don't?
Exactly, an invasive species may take hold in reservoir species here and then we will need to figure out how to live with this threat on a more permanent basis. It could permanently alter our biological landscape.
There are more cases of ebola in Texas right now than Nigeria, should a no-fly zone be imposed over the State of Texas?
In regards to the three countries that still do have active ebola outbreaks, the number of flights involved is minimal...
Liberia
Sierra Leone
Guinea
Or are you implying some sort of forced quarantine should be externally imposed for countries which haven't even had a case of ebola identified within their borders? -- in which case be sure to update us all when HHS, flanked by DHS in MRAPs, shows up at your door because someone, somewhere, that you and your family have never had contact with... was diagnosed with ebola, and you've just been selected by Uncle Sam for an all expense paid vacation at the nearest Camp FEMA.
Urban Redneck..Had we banned or at least quarantined flights originating from E Africa we would have probably never seen Ebola in Texas, at least until it came across the Mexican boarder. Gee, didn't they quarantine way back in the 1800s at Ellis Island. Guess they had better grip on epidemiology back then.
There haven't been any cases of Ebola in East Africa this year, so that wouldn't do shit to prevent the case in Texas, much less prevent United Airlines Flight 951 from Brussels to Washington (Dulles) from delivering ebola to the US. It's that sort of ignorance, like lumping all of West Africa as some single entity to be subjugated to the will and whims of American retards, that I despise.
If Americans want to dictate where Brussels Airlines can fly, then Americans deserve ebola, and Americans should get down on their knees and worship their Statist overlords appropriately if they truly desire that deliverance and divine intervention, instead of pretending to be concerned about such trivial things as civil liberties and rule of law.
It's not just the American government that the rest of the world is disgusted with - both morally and intellectually.
Edit to my above post, meant to type W Africa, my apologies.
Urban Redneck. Nobody is putting forth the idea of telling where Brussels Airlines can fly at least not that Im aware of. Only that if the flight originates in W Africa all passengers will have to under go quarantine when they land in US. Asking the government to do one of their few constitutionally mandated jobs of protecting and guarding the border does not make one a Statist worshiper. And what has your utopia of open boarders given not only the US but the entire western world? Chaos, unheard of crime rates and the reintroduction of deceases that were eradicated 100 years ago. Add that to the ongoing cultural destruction that comes along with the hoards of unwanted "emigrants".
Quite frankly I could give a rats ass what the rest of the world thinks, stop jumping our fences to get in.
There are a lot of very good reasons to secure the US borders (not just international airports), but who is going to secure the border? If this what what CPB does after ebola arrives in Dallas (someone sent an email and CC'd a bunch of .gov paycheck collectors)... Americans need look in the mirror, and confront their demons, instead of worshiping them. Washington is the problem, not the solution. FWIW those migrating the world in search of "the land of opportunity" started looking for greener pastures than the US about 20 years ago...
ATLANTA (CBS Atlanta/AP) — CNN senior medical correspondent Elizabeth Cohen said she was shocked and horrified at the lack of screening for Ebola at an Atlanta airport after coming back from Liberia.
Speaking to HLN on Monday, Cohen described what happened when she was going through customs at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
“I expected that they were going to take my temperature, they were going to ask me lots of questions, but they didn’t,” Cohen said.
Cohen explained she told the airport official that she just came back from Liberia covering the Ebola outbreak. I said, ‘I’m a journalist. I’ve come back from Liberia, I was covering Ebola.’ And the gentleman who was helping me – the officer – he started to hand my passport back and said, ‘Welcome home,’ but instead said, ‘Wait a second, I got an email about passengers like you. Hold on a second.’”
Cohen continued: “And he went and conferred with someone and he didn’t know and they conferred with someone else. And in the end he said, ‘You need to watch yourself for signs of Ebola.’ And I said, ‘Well, what am I watching out for?’ and he couldn’t tell me.”
Cohen’s producer and photojournalist were also not told of the signs to check for.
“I was travelling with two colleagues – a photojournalist and a producer – and they weren’t told anything and they also said they were journalists who had been covering Ebola,” Cohen told HLN. “So we were all kind of shocked and pretty horrified at the lack of screening in U.S. airports.”

Is it really that difficult to comprehend? You needn't stop flights, you must stop people.
Travellers from Guinea, SL & Liberia require a passport and a visa to enter the US. All that need be done is to suspend all visas, such that no additional travellers may enter the US. Airlines are well equipped to deal with such restrictions, already verifying travel documents to ensure they don't have return passengers to the point of origin. This will take care of the medical tourism issue, game, set, match and neutralize most of the threat until the outbreak in Liberia burns out.
US citizens and permanent residents must remain outside of affected countries or in quarantine for 21 days before being allowed entry. This is more challenging to implement, as Europe would be the natural self-quarantine in transit to the US. That said it is infinitely doable, build an in-transit facility in country, a hospital ship off Monrovia, what have you. This group is primarily healthcare workers, completely apprised of the risks of their mission and can be relied upon to conduct twice daily fever checks, etc. The business travellers, etc will flush through the pipeline very quickly as it becomes fight or flight. Reporters will take their lead from HCW. Supplies are brought in by millitary airlift/civillian cargo flights, crews never leaving the aircraft, doors/holds etc decontaminated upon return.
The EU must implement the same restrictions for it to work, passenger manifests must be matched against visa holders prior to departure. They undoubtedly would after the US implements its restrictions, lest the streets of Brussels/Paris/London become the quarantine station.
Poof, all non-essential travel is shut down without "isolating" Liberia.
If actual leadership/surival instinct still existed in the West, this is the plan that would have been put into action months ago when the disease jumped out of the bush villages.
Well that and of course, it would be way-suss and it would be difficult to label such rational action "xenophobia" much to the DREAMers dismay.
Do you have any idea how many thousands of European volunteers are scattered all over West Africa right now dealing with everything from basic sanitation and education to ebola and every other medical condition that can't get treated properly right now? Germany is coughing up another 5,000 volunteers just for ebola response.
The 3,000 American troops, most of whom haven't even shown up yet, are only a fraction of the total effort. The US government isn't even offering the air lift capacity to replace what commercial aviation is already providing. Just like the dilettante Dear Leader, the actual American response to the ebola outbreak has been more talk than substance, but from the way it's spun in the media one could easily come to the conclusion that Obola himself made good on his promise to lower the seas...
The (apparently) subconscious American exceptionalism/superiority/self-importance/arrogance emanating from the writings of those who generally dislike or distrust the American government is really bizarre. I don't think a lot of people realize how strange some of what they are suggesting can sound to someone who lives outside the USA and doesn't take the exorbitant privileges of the world's reserve currency (FRBNY) and the US MIC for granted (all the more ironic at ZH).
EV-D68 has shown up in more dead Americans than Ebola. Why not secure the damn Mexican border from the virus that's already killing American children (and paralyzing others), before telling Europeans how to secure their borders against ebola? Or at least provide some guidance to the lower primates at CPB who are supposed to be screening persons arriving in the US from overseas?
If Americans are really that scared shitless over ebola, then they should have stepped up months ago, and they shouldn't be trying to command everyone else from the back of the bus. The US has 4x the population of Germany (and a lot more than 4x the military).
I have absolutely no idea the point of your ramblings or how it is even tangentially related to my post. I not commanding anyone in Europe to do anything, I simply pointed out that if the US implements a travel ban, the EU would be forced to do the same or risk becoming an informal quarantine station.
The point of my post was simple, there is a leadership vaccum in the US (and the West more broadly) that will not allow for the drastic action required to be taken, on many fronts. Dear Leader will do absolutley nothing for he is incapable of doing anything, he is a shell, a charlatan, only capable of dealing in perception.
And yes, the unsecured southern border is treasonous and can now likely only be secured by miliitarizing it.
Perhaps English isn't your first language but where in the fuck did you read that I was lauding US leadership or demanding the Europeans do anything? I was merely presenting a plan in place of US Officialdom talking points.
One of Nigerias tools for containment was quarantine.
Arik Air is still flying from Monrovia and Freetown to Lagos.
I guess Liberians only want to get the US to spread ebola (Patrick Sawyer and the whole outbreak in Nigeria excepted of course...)
Perhaps Jeh Johnson should swap out the ass clowns at CPB for some Nigerian email scammers.
AFAIK, there are no direct flights from West Africa to NA. If that is correct, they have to start checking passports at ports of entry. That means that Border Patrol and TSA are on the front lines of stopping it. If this really is or does become very communicable, we're fucked.
Actually its the airlines on the front line but they have incentive to comply.
Travel documents are presented at check-in. Airlines have a financial interest in not having to return passengers to their point of origin.
Containment needs to happen before the flight pushes back from the gate at Monrovia/Guinea/SL.
Liberia was short of doctors to begin with because of two civil wars.
I want to see a picture of the infected nurse.....so far, I haven't seen any theories that she is smokin hot, and was "sleeping" with the male nurses. Nah nevermind. That never happens in the healthcare industry.
A sexually active nurse? Better check the local cops too.
Que serum serum,
Whoever shall bleed shall bleed
The suture is our's to see,
Que serum serum...
Ole!
Damm, had to log in just so I could up vote you!!!
^^Why must people always give in to their stupid urges to write stupid shit?^^ Having worked in the field for decades and been faithful and devoted to my one and only spouse for decades, I find your stupidity beneath the standards that ZH used to hold. This nurse was thrown into something that she was NOT PREPARED FOR and may now lose her life. Have a little bit of couth. Please!
"I find your stupidity beneath the standards that ZH used to hold."
I agree that the comment lacks respect but it doesn't surprise me as this appears to be pretty typical for ZH. The standards are very low. Coming to ZH expecting anything better is like wearing lipstick to a dogfight. Oh, and your admission of your fidelity to your spouse will get you downvotes. Yeah, it's that kinda place. Now, I'll just prepare for my own deluge of down arrows.
Have to agree here. I'm scared to death. This is no laughing matter. My fidelity to my wonderful man has been a joy for thirty years. It that offends some they can FOAD. I don't want to bring home an agent that could kill my friends and family due to the stupidity and hubris of our " leadership"
My hospital has now posted their Ebola Policy
"Per CDC:
Staff must closely follow standard safety precautions when handling samples for routine testing.
U.S. hospitals can safely manage a patient with EVD by using all recommended isolation and infection control procedures. Similarly, U.S. clinical laboratories can safely handle specimens from these patients by strict adherence to precautions and practices specifically designed for bloodborne pathogens in the laboratory environment. However, Ebola has an apparent low infectious dose, the potential of high virus titers in the blood of ill patients, and can result in severe disease. Therefore, it is essential that laboratorians, supervisors, and other workers review laboratory safety procedures and guidelines to make sure to follow these biosafety recommendations. Following these guidelines U.S. hospitals and clinical laboratories have safely managed a number of VHF patients including cases of Lassa fever and Marburg virus (a closely related virus to Ebola)."
This is insane. I am planning my exit.

Have you looked into the Bob Beck Protocol for prevention or cure of Ebola? Blood electrification and silver colloid, there are other details to it. Would be interested in your take on this, if you know anything about it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xMlXd9hLpcY
I have been studying this for 2 or 3 years, built the devices and use them myself. I believe it has merit but I am not a scientist or doctor.
well miffed you got an ebola policy, just warm and fuzzy feelings all over that your adm has taken action.
let's hope the "we can control it here" crowd is right..never liked playing russian roulette, never did it.
the system here will fall apart as soon as the hospital staff, er, icu, medics on ambulances stop showing up for work as you are ready to do, the cleaning er environmental staff will be long gone if this thing gets going.
a nightmare that none of us wants but our leadership is hell bent to show us all how right they are. open borders no quantine lets roll the dice.
Funny how said leadership never is directly involved with handling patients and samples from these patients. Without skin in the game their policies are suspect. Oops, so sorry I guess we were wrong. I guess it just sucks to be you.
I caught 2009H1N1 influenza. Nasty ass bug. I never knew where I got it. It could have been the 100 flu samples I handled or just from someone in the community. If it were from one of those samples, I had followed hospital protocols to the letter. This doesn't inspire much confidence.
I am walking carefully in a burning building. My advantage is I am one of the few here awake. I have heard through the rumor mill there is some rumblings in the ranks at other facilities in our health system. I am tempted to reach out but at this point I'm a bit reticent to divulge my position.
The only way to end this is a burn out. I don't think many can conceptualize what this truly means.

Thank you for your candor. It has helped me and probably many others take this threat seriously and potentially saved lives.
Stay safe friend.
Even my gut tells me you're doing the right thing.
Let the blind play follow the leader. It's literally a dead end.
I travel next week from coast to coast and back for work and not happy about it. Last one I do no matter what excuse I have to come up with.
Hmmm I would really consider getting some N-100 masks and a box of gloves, might freak out the other passengers but maybe open some eyes too. Bonus would be getting turned back at the TSA checkpoint, "Gee boss I was just trying to protect myself, don't blame me for those dumb ass TSA jerks freaking out".
Just sit in the departure lounge wearing an "I Love Liberia" T-shirt, then start coughing and arrange to have a nosebleed.
You won't have to fly anywhere and you'll get a nice 21 day vacation quarantined at home (or in an isolation ward - bring plenty of reading material)
Yes, near other patients who actually do have the virus. Good plan.
I quit flying last November. I did +100K miles in 2012. I got a wickiiiiiiiid campervan now. Tallyho!
Soon your list will be completely scratched
Lucky: Filling out a bucket list. Unlucky: Filling up a bucket of vomit.
Well we have finally concluded what we already knew. Africans fcuk up whatever they touch.
Oh, that's rayciss. And factually incorrect. We have a Kenyan in the White House and everyone agrees he's doing a great job.
OK, I puked, just a little, on that one.
"Mission Accomplished"
It's not because they're black that they're Africans!
or...
was it...
that they're not Africans because they're black...
never the less...
FIRST IT WAS THE AFRICAN KILLER BEES!!!
AND NOW IT'S THE AFRICAN EBOLA KILLER VIRUS!!
Ebola numbers are now at 5800, is the MSN running late on the reporting of those numbers?
Just wait until that Honey Badger gets off that continent.
Obligatory "Gods Must Be Crazy" clip

Well knukles are you prepared? A years worth of food in your house? If/when your town gets quarantined you don't want to be taking daily trips to the grocery store. There's not much I can personally do to influence how events go down so I find myself musing about intellectual puzzle of how this affects the economy and market. If Dallas Chicago and Sacramento have quaratines placed around them everyone loses but some lose much less than others. will that massive overhang of derivatives be dislodged? Qustions like that come to mind but are above my pay grade. We have a few weeks to puzzle things out.
If Sacramento gets quarantined, everyone loses only if the Insane Clown Posse legislature is in session at the time.
Note that they made to sure to import Ebola to every continent except South America, which is where the Bush's have their zombie fortress.
I'm cheering too. Any country that would elect Obama deserves to die.
"Something went wrong" in Spain Ebola case. America responds by goatse-ing its borders even wider.---from Heartiste's twitter
just to say that annual winter flu is going to become fabulous winter, prolly the most funny ever, like...
cough cough
- hey ! happy new...
-clic clic ...BANG BANG...STAY ALL THE FUCK AWAY !!!
exponential over winter flu, let say 300k dead january 2k15 worldwide.
of course it is personnal evaluation, i hope to be wrong & wish it to be much more.
Only until I see piles of dead bodies in Liberia.
Can we nuke it from orbit?
Thats a good point. We havent seen any pictures or any news castings of any kind from Libera.... Interesting.
Ebola will only kill the Whities in the over indebted countires with stagnant GDP. lol
What are you talking about? There are pictures everywhere.
No. No there aren't. Please provide 25 different pictures of Ebola patients from this outbreak.
Its dawning on me too. I saw that same re-run of the lad being bundled into the truck by the yellow coats today. That must be 2 or 3 weeks old now.
Would you stand around dead bodies infected with ebola taking pictures? Most people would run the other direction.
Yes, it has a history of going airborne in the lab.
If this spreads in the US and anyone survives, we should start making a list of people to hang.
If it spreads and you think you 'caught a case', head to Washington cough at the White House, bleed @ the FBI, leak @ the CIA, and sweatily shake your elected politician(s) hand. Remember, CBLS (cough, bleed, leak, sweat).
Nice nurses uniform, guy. http://youtu.be/qKuAl1QvuI8
"Ms Jallah was with Thomas Eric Duncan when he was taken to a Dallas hospital. She made him tea, helped him move and was in ambulance with him"
...after just 7 days of being in isolation in the Ebola infested apartment of Thomas Eric Duncan, the CDC has given her the all clear...what?
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2782694/Ebola-victim-s-stepdaugh...
That is unbelievable. Almost as unbelievable as the +4.1% holiday sales expectation number I just saw on pump TV.
Not 21 days?! Why isnt her isolation 21 days!? This is absurd, absolutely absurd. They either want this to run through the population, Agenda 21 style, or they are just that stupid. I just cant figure out which it is anymore.
INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBILITY.
Who at the CDC actually decided this? There are consequences for one's actions!
Thankfully the family is a bit more risk averse than the CDC.
Who in their right minds would go back to work knowing she'd be there or allow their children to attend school with her children?
So it was reported the man died Sun. from an Israeli media outlet.
This says he's alive.
There is no integrity in reporting. Period.
out of an abundance of precaution
And its a Bio-wep.
Thats not a bad guess, not a bad guess at all. Totally insane.
Every virus is airborne in one way or another. Ever get a common stomach bug? Did you directly ingest semen, vaginal fluids, fesces, urine, saliva, sweat, blood, mucus or vomit from an infected person? Probably not. Fun fact: exhaled air contains more water vapor than inhaled air. Want to guess why? Microscopic glob of saliva escapes your mouth while you are breathing or speaking. Nobody even knows it is happening, they are microscopic but the fluids are there.
Back to the stomach bug, you still got the stomach bug anyway. How? Simply inhaling within 2-3 feet of an infected person puts you at a small risk of getting infected by the common stomach bug. Simple as that.
The problem with Ebola is that it is a "fluid maker". Why? It makes its host produce tons and tons of fluid to increase its chances of spreading to a new host before it kills the old one. Humans are actually not good hosts for this virus, since it kills humans too quickly. This virus is typically found only in very remote and sparsely populated areas. It doesn't have many outbreaks in the general population of humanity because it burns itself out too quickly usually. Basically it's just hard for this virus to continue living in sparsely populated human communities because it runs out of hosts.
That is why the common method of treating this virus outbreak is containment, and isolation, and watching the people contacted by those that are even suspected of having come in contact with an infected person.
See the Vice News expose of the conditions in Liberia currently, and especially the section where they visit the brothels in Monrovia. You can almost smell the Ebola from the comfort of your computer screen. Tons of people in tightly packed conditions with no plumbing or sanitation of any kind. They pile their trash on abandoned lots and let it rot. They piss and shit directly in the street. No toilet paper even. Perfect conditions for a virus to spread like a prairie fire.
Another fun fact, humans like to have sex. Lots of sex. You wouldn't be reading this if someone didn't have sex. Sex spreads lots of body fluids. Semen, vaginal fluids, saliva, sweat, even tiny trace amounts of urine. No matter how germophobic you are, depending on what type of sex there's even potential for fesces, and even some blood. Imagine how many times an infected individual might kiss someone during a typical 21 day incubation period, let alone how many times they might have sex with a partner. The husband of the Spanish Ebola Nurse is now a confirmed case. Think he at least kissed his wife?
Split-Hoe law applies. Each bruthuz he-it tin hoes, who then gits splee-it by tin other bruthuz. Par-tee in da ghe-toe!
Ebola actually doesn't mind killing you. Its not a parasite. It doesn't want to live forever, it wants to spread. And it does that by turning your body into an Ebola virus factory. Thats why the dead bodies are highly contagious. Because its at that moment that your body has effectively been turned INTO the Ebola virus.
Jeeeesus. Stephen King's got nothing on you. Ever consider writing horror fiction for a living? *shiver*
Another scary fact? While Ebola generally does not like to hang out in the lungs like influenza, hence the downplaying of the risk from catching it via normal breathing, it does hang out in sweat. Sweat is actually ranked as infections as infected vomit or feces. And lets not forget that it can live on unprotected moist surfaces for hours at least.
So some sweaty infected person sits down, and the person next to them touches that area and wipes their nose or eye, and that's all it takes.
This is not going to be good for gym membership signups!
I go to the gym every morning before work. Since this all started I have limited what equipment I use, use tons of hand sanitizer after touching anything and wipe everything down before using it. Paranoid? Just a little, but I don't want to catch ebola or anything else. The place that scares me the most is the bathroom which features only 3 shitters and they get used non stop. The gym is located very close to atlanta.
You know when you walk in the gym and the humidity hits you in the face? That's everybody's sweat. You're breathing it in, and you can't escape it.
I also have to drive by the atlanta waste water treament plant...I guess I am inhaling everyones shit too. Fuck it...
I'm having a bad dream of being caught on an elevator and someone with ebola farts.
@panem....hey many thanks for the optimistic spin you put on this! Now excuse Mongo while he goes and sits next to the toilet and cries! Much like pink does in the WALL!
Married 10 years. I think I'm all good and wouldn't pass anything on in 21 days.
Fun fact: exhaled air contains more water vapor than inhaled air. Want to guess why? Microscopic glob of saliva escapes your mouth while you are breathing or speaking. Nobody even knows it is happening, they are microscopic but the fluids are there.
That is why we have to drink so much water to keep hydrated. You can see it sometimes. Those of us in the north see it all the time. Ever been in a car with other people in the winter time, windows up, waiting for something with the engine off? Fairly soon, the windows fog up and the moisture starts beading and then running down the inside of the windows. That is our collective moisture from sweat and exhaling. Same thing with the fog that comes out of your mouth in the cold air. We are all closer than we think.
No worries. Airborne or not, Prez Obola "has got this".
Europeans love pandemics.

Let's all hope and pray his sorry ass gets this.
ISIS Must Be Orgazmic At The Prospects Here...
Indeed. However, that's assuming they can somehow contain and control it. This virus is an equal opportuinity killer.
Basic physics. Fluids dont last long in desert like places. So guess who will die firts.
ISIS finds vials of ebola virus at an abandoned US facility...
This virus is an equal opportuinity killer.
I just had this vision in my head of the attendees at the last Bilderberg meeting lining up for their shots. I curse the day I ever swallowed that red pill. It's hard to trust anything about anything anymore.
I'm confused. Is this market positive or negative? Maybe I should talk to an algo.
